how did i get my pr and australian citizenship [Music] this is a question that many people have been asking me you've been sending me a lot of messages so i might as well answer this in a video and i'm going to tell you my story [Music] as i said in all my other videos i was 21 years old when i decided to come to australia i had this inner age that i wanted to have challenges and i wanted to travel i wanted to meet people from other cultures i wanted to challenge myself by studying another language and i came across this article on how melbourne was the most livable city in the world that's when i told my partner at the time hey why don't we go to australia and he said yeah for sure so that's when we decided to come here so at the time when i decided to come to australia i was in the middle of studying my bachelor in psychology back at the university of buenos aires but as i said i just wanted to go abroad and study so i started doing some research in australia and i contacted an education consultant mainly because their services are free and they helped me with absolutely everything from course enrollment to processing my student visa and getting me health insurance etc later on i saw that studying here in australia was a bit more what was a bit expensive was a lot of money so i had really good grades back at uni and i had lots of extracurricular activities and i talked about this in another video on how to get a scholarship but yeah so i decided to apply for scholarships to study here and just give it a try right and i got two scholarship offers one at a really good university in sydney and another one here in melbourne but because i was so determined to come into melbourne i decided to accept that offer so yeah and after that of course we started the we started processing my student b-side etc again my partner on the other hand and i think this is something that will be very interesting to you he had the experience at a big consulting firm one of the big fours and he said hey i'm going to work on the work on holiday visa and i'm going to give it a try i really would like to get a professional job there but he wanted to try to get a job before moving to australia and of course many of you have been asking me about this because it's understandable you want that certainty that when you move here you're going to have a job but i'll be honest with you it's very very tricky unless you have a lot of experience working at a multinational or your skills are in high demand it's very hard to get a sponsorship outside right it's called offshore it's very hard 10 15 years ago that was a bit easier today it's not it is possible though and i have many friends who got transfer from for example one of my friends was working in england and then she got transferred to work at the same company here in australia but we need to have a very specific set of skills but everything is possible [Music] so yeah my partner wanted to get a job right away before coming here to australia so i said okay hey i have a background in recruitment taking more resources i can help you create a very strong job application and maybe we can contact recruiters and that's what we did and i highly suggest to do that we did that we created a very detailed action plan in his letter of presentation cover letters resume we started contacting recruiters on linkedin and we actually had lots of calls at the time we were using facetime and skype and they said hey your background is really good but we prefer you to be here and employers especially a big consulting firms they want you to be here in order to make sure that you're a good fit as well for the company that was good was he didn't have he didn't get the jobs he did already have a food in the door basically so as i said i came on the student visa my plan was to finish my studies in psychology here and then after i graduated i was going to get the postgraduate visa which is a two-year visa to work full-time after you graduate the idea was to apply for the pr because the occupation of psychologists is on the skills list and then my partner was going to come here on the work on holiday visa and try to get a job the thing is that the first week that we arrived in here we contacted these recruiters and they said yeah come for an interview he had like four interviews at one of the big consulting firms and he got the job and we got offered sponsorship basically it was immediate sponsorship after four years of being on the 457 we applied for permanent residency and then after one year on the permanent residency visa we applied for citizenship look you may be saying oh you're very lucky were we lucky yes maybe i do feel grateful and lucky because otherwise i would have had to go through all the processes of getting the post brother visa and then applying for pr as a psychologist but it was so much easier and much faster what we did with my partner at the time but at the same time i like to think as well that we took a lot of time on planning strategically how we are going to be networking with recruiters we both use our expertise my partner used his background in natural science and data analytics of course to sell his skills and i use my background in recruitment and human resources to create that actual plan to contact recruiters in a very very smart way and you really need to brand yourself and sell your skills and market to them i know many people feel very uncomfortable when they hear the word marketing but you really need to sell your skills i know many people who are super qualified but they really don't play their expertise or they don't feel comfortable talking about their achievements on the resume and you really need to try to adjust that mindset because you need to stand out and you need to build your confidence so you can really sell your story you can really demonstrate employers and recruiters the value that you can bring to the company especially if you have a strong background and lots of expertise and experience and in my case i didn't have as much experience as my partner at the time but still whilst i was studying during my last year i secured six interviews with a big consulting firm at the end unfortunately i didn't get the job because i decided to stop but i got to the interview with a partner and i was a nobody really i was nobody but i had to work on building my confidence and use all the experience that i had in order to demonstrate that i could do the job so yeah it's a lengthy process it's a lot of hard work but yeah it's possible it's super possible i have a lot of free content here in my channel lots of videos on everything you need to know about working in australia how to apply for a job how to write your resume how to write your color letter you have a lot of information here so try to make use of those resources if you have a question leave a comment on the video and i'll try to answer i have a lot of expertise in this area because i've been working for over six years in the migration and human resources field working in job ready programs as well and helping my grants with the job applications so i really hope you're getting value out of these videos and if you like this video like and subscribe to support the channel and yeah i'll see you next time bye [Music] you
