Georgia O'Keeffe's New Mexico

the Great American Artist Georgia O'Keefe once said if you ever go to New Mexico it will itch you for the rest of your life O'Keefe first came to this state in 1917 at the age of 30 from then on she said later I was always trying to get back there by the time she finally returned in 1929 O'Keefe was an upand cominging New York painter looking for a change of scenery and a little peace and quiet for the next two decades she came back to New Mexico almost every year in 1949 she left New York for good and settled in this Valley North of Santa Fe in a place called Ghost Ranch from then on the landscape around the valley was the principal subject of her art she painted some of its landmarks over and over again kitchen Mesa which looms over the North End of the ranch was a beloved subject but the natural Landmark o'keef may have loved the most was a Flatt topped Mountain to the South called PNA it's my private Mountain she explained God told me if I painted it often enough I could have it o'keef loved many of New Mexican human-made landmarks too her paintings of the bare walls and simple Adobe forms of San Francisco deisi Mission in nearby toos are some of her most famous [Music] works
