I don't want to do this but I want to have done this.

That was insane and beautiful.

I really like the way EF respects these events and their participants. The riders try hard but are in no way depreciating the people who train for these events. This and Dirty Kanza have been awesome.

Also nice nod featuring all the finishers.

And I thought ultramarathon running was tough... This stuff is insane and looks like a lot of fun.

Whenever I watch these it makes me want to do one, then I remind myself that you can't actually sleep when you want and its becomes much less appealing...

man people couldn't get their head around they're like what do you mean like okay I'm gonna race from the bottom of the UK at the top but we're gonna go on this really complicated route where it's a lot of off-road and maybe walking and I've got to carry all my stuff along with stages and I saw how the first ones like 630 case their display goes what do you mean [Music] duck but the barber feed up as a black rice you always want to win where you want to help with a window you want to be prevalent in the rice you want to do something but I started the Grand Tour de vuelta I'm Way more nervous about this way more nervous so yeah finishing that would be a huge victory I said I think it would be like one of the biggest achievements I've had in bike riding just to complete this thing what have you got so far nothing at all so the gbto is a self supported bike race from Land's and this is the bottom of the UK to John O'Groats which is the most northern part I have no idea what it is that I'm really we have to do because I've never done anything like it and this is my first dipping my toe in except I think dipping my toe in involves just jumping right in the deep end I mean they're nuts basically they are rebelling against normal way of life they say we've got it easy let's do something we're not sure we can do so GB dura is a full stage gravel ride our route is 2,000 K and we're not looking for a straight line we're going to the best national parks and the best mountain so we can find on the route and it's gonna really challenge the writers the timing is done through Instagram so it's done through time stamping your photos you take a time stamp votes at the start of each stage and the end of each stage and then between the stages you can have as much time off as you want but you need to get to the finishers party by 8:00 p.m. on seconds in order to kind of qualify for for a finish did you find this in a club the idea with the whole tenant calendar was it's like like let's go into all of the different aspects of recycling and to see what they're about and ultra was kind of that oneness that's the final frontier of what altar racing when I first heard about it I was like that's stupid you just out there it's like who can just keep going I watched a video about like the race across America I remember at some point in go ahead like Paul strapped to his neck like duct-taped his head was holding him out because he was so tired and I was like well this is good I'm really bad I didn't know who he was guys it's such a cruel breathe no one's written the room full yet it's gonna be see interesting see how he deals oh there are so many qualities that he's gonna have that nobody else has because it's what he does but then you've got you know I know of a few in there who yet they they they know how to ride these events they now look after themselves they know how to ride through weather and sleet separation and all of that stuff that's like you say what he's used to he's gonna have to do that all by himself which is got to be a real step change this is the only time in my life I've been so sure I'm about to go and hit rock bottom somewhere [ __ ] it it's weirdly exciting I mean I'm very willing to do this I really want to do this and I think to do something like this you've got to really want to do it and I don't think there was a lot of takers um for my teammates who wanted to take this on to be honest I think this might be a journey that they need to go on by myself from what I've seen from the ultra racing is it's a lot a lot of what you get out of it is that solitude and and looking into yourself and working out what you can deal with as a person and how you overcome these things and where your own limit are I mean I think that's what this is ultimately about it's like self-discovery laughs it into a supermarket there with a trolley is just grabbing everything and like sat down inside I hate my Cornish pasty every puppets got enough food to get the whole six under some zoo down the southern road yeah like okay this is not so bad like she kind of had like the adrenaline of the start and just being like oh this is gonna be fun Angus the guy was driving for the first hundred K he said oh yeah I'm just gonna press on through the night and I couldn't believe it I was like oh I didn't know that was the fake no I was like I guess you can just do this I was in the section just before Bristol in the middle of the night scrambling around in the bush okay this is gonna be from just like you can in it I welcome that last two hours it's the worst because it's like you could just see down here yeah that felt like I was just in this forest walking up hills yeah so watching is I didn't even know it was like a phenomenon but basically you can follow these races online and everyone carries like a tracker a GPS tracker and you can see where everyone is spread out on the route and they show up as a dolt you know the dot on the map and you can sit there and watch them and see the progress sometimes you'll be you know following along and you see they eat a hot spot I haven't moved in like you know 12 hours what are they doing and then all the times you'd like got a bed and my company I call I didn't like 300k I just woke up I was watching the dot all night I fell asleep though I fell asleep at like 4 a.m. but I stayed up because I thought that I thought he was gonna stop at 400 but I guess you just kept going like you said and this is my new life now I sleep with the laptop beside me asleep with my phone making sure that I'm still getting notifications I woke up early but looked at the doctor thought bloody hell he steamed along I didn't expect him to come through until late morning for tea caddy girl something busy walking and there was like we'd come off this hill and it was just all grass think the GPS like like you're going along and then all of a sudden the GPS we have to spent like that like off the side of the hill not for a nice Sunday walk nicely it's us staple your belly push my bike yeah so you're simply testing on any rise right now running and not it it's amazing how different it is like cuz you just end up wafer the inside your head because like this how much less stimulus so you're just thinking about what how you feel really so it's just like a huge mental battle even a question I think I got in at 4 p.m. and it started at 8 o'clock in the morning before I do the math on that very quickly I think it's 32 hours I got rid of trench foot after the second day across the creek like within five days of the start and then spent another thirty two hours in which is it you really didn't bother me because I was so tired and I was just so happy to be there like the house were amazing I was bit earlier than anyone expected so they would like they were hustling to get some food ready and unbelievably they had an amazingly hot shower which is like if you I was not expecting shower so that was already a huge wheel I've been refreshing this page like every 20 seconds yeah [Music] for 30 hours I'm gonna get a bed [Music] [Music] [Music] Stage two was hell enough [Music] and that's when the delt watches first are coming out like just in time people say just coming to meet me yes before II knew it like with me Manchester like my whole mentality switched to the point where in that I'll push on I've been guessing inspired Michaela with the bikes yeah I was stoked when it's coming through Manchester that guy who revered me put it a little bit it was like now a city I'm drinking a couple of beers from and like football that's coming through town she was like who's that [Music] it's like he's a boy that you said well what are you doing get out there I feel pretty good again I'm not tired again like obviously something wrong with me he might went into the next bit of trail and I thought I saw and the cameraman and I was like I should stop and say hey and look back he wasn't there and I was like okay Tommy good man right at the moment I was like I cannot do this this kid came out of nowhere I was that sick I don't want to get you sick so nice you couldn't actually you shouldn't touch me a little bit that is a huge pile of cash and I just rode headfirst into it and I'm covered and I was fully lying if it's like this is rock bottom ha ha just like what do i do what do i do and i was like i can't use my water like I need my water and then that was kind of the signal of what was the most testing night of my because the course got incredibly hard get beans teams out there who take themselves way too seriously but at the end of the day like we all ride bikes to have fun so if you do an event like this all the dirty cancer it's just I think it's the best event you could do the alternative calendar is saying listen we don't take ourselves too seriously we're gonna have fun doing what we're doing and that's it we may be pros but we won't have fun riding our bikes and asleep for like 25 rounds or now the Sun's up which is a big win for the good guys the night is just it's so crazy last night the times I have stopped the regret and like intense disappointment I have been myself you always look back at that moment you gave up and it just eats at you I hate that feeling giving up is always worse than that dark moment in the dark laments fade but if you give in to them they last you know for and then took on the highest paved client had this horrendous Edward it was probably 50 or 60 can out I felt like it was just everything was just being like no and I was like I can do it that doesn't matter and I was crawling up this hill and it just seemed absolutely impossible you know like this perched up on the side [Applause] this is not quite ready and I was already at zero you know like I'd spent all my biscuits just to get to the top of that hill it just it was so small so tired of sigh crack and then I just started crying I was like I can't just finish that on from now on this King walking 5/12 guys long and you can't ride any of it this is hair straight I'm so cracked [Applause] I went from like frustrated angry cried to dislike a real cry my god this is walking along in the right like so cold just like walking just crying for like 10 minutes this is it this is the bottom it's like so now it's just about like this is where you wanted to get to how you're gonna react that's just like okay well it's time to move forward so that I just started like the section I was on I like laughed for a second and I just started running the show [Music] well I did it I got to that point I thought I couldn't and I got past it well I didn't really try to let myself think of the finish I was just and then when you get to the finish like heads down but it wasn't done because I was quite early and the village centre was not expecting me I was like okay okay game playing let's work this out I can do this started reading the the the board and it was like I had a bunch of numbers that you could call and then there was a sign next to it it said there's no phone reception in this village you know it's like not that I saw a Wi-Fi card so I was like I'm amazing jump on the Wi-Fi then the message came through from one of the organizers I'd suggest like maybe think about getting it being baby because the you gonna be too early I think has only one being beard town found it I was like wait wet in there there's a fire going it was like just this idyllic setting just like I was like this is where I want to be I've made it thank God the lady who owned the place came down and she was like nah we're full made it to the town five miles down the road proceeded to go to another couple of places that were full and then finally found the problem and if it's just like I was meant to be there and you wanna check the room before you book it no like no I just want to go in there like I got that kid you could tell me it's a thousand pounds I don't care just let me get in there doing a bit already oh my god it's like quarter to seven you're gonna get up at three [Music] so this is where the stage finished yesterday when I looked at the route again today I was like I'm gonna ride back here to where I was to ride back that way so the G videos now you think a little longer [Music] [Music] but I stay great me one of the pros can help with all these he'll be pulling the boys progress on lean all the way up my butt just come out music I dropped it leaks must be good all sudden I was like this is nice [Music] [Music] Michael Woods is here to give us some really in-depth Pro insight into how it's going because first of all we need find where he is I don't think people realize I seen this earlier that lucky rides yeah like more than the average pro quiet lot yeah there's like 40 hours like I think this is luxe actual dream it's just riding ever done stuff but he loves doing this kind of stuff no not every photo of you from even in Kansa and this as well he's got this sneaky little smirk on his face like I think he's meant to be really struggling and really like in it but he's just like oh yeah yeah I sort of decided I was like okay I don't need to push through the door again I had such a traumatic experience last time I was like I'll go to their bike check into a cheap hotel for four hours have a shower have a like good sleep and then get up and go I can I get a room and he's like a hot graduation weekend we're totally full I was like God he's like the holiday and never ever walked in ladies just looked at me and I could to already see in their eyes as I walked in before I before I even a second say she didn't ever I was ready to call it a day it's a flower Wilcox she's writing to a divide at the moment because she's the king of Oz you have a tough shoot bag filled with just fries so I just just loosely fries and she's putting salt on them do though is he gonna keep writing and he that's a good idea and then so another photo like sitting at the front of a gas station and she's drinking milk he's Indian it was that you could say with half and half I think she's scowling half and half and it said to die five I was like oh my god that's what it takes yeah I can't wait to see what Martha yeah with this money good boy final push yes a memory like 15 K's with 20 KS before I plan to stop and he was ready to go into the knife he was like God he wafer gonna go I think he come through in the morning he was like I was gonna ride out he said but she's gonna ride into the night like I'll do that and then I purposely not challenged my front light the night before so I couldn't then you all would do that again I was like what if you're an early riser we have a 3ds like he said him but he must have got like one hour sleep came back out I was waiting for me there 3:00 in the morning side of the road in the cold just like smile on his face like yeah let's go where is everyone let's get on the on the tracker where are my friends yeah this for such a long stretches by yourself they used to had to think like I'm doing idea this is so stupid and pointless I got a wife at home this is a selfish thing to be doing but then you get like someone stood out there being like yes like oh yeah that's what I'm doing we're gonna rice and like people are excited about it and you just get like one or two people like that in like hard times and it makes all the difference [Music] [Music] I feel better than ever I was like my legs have just become like what's happened I was like I was keeping up with it they just started going and all the sudden I was like this is it like a hacker there's possibly big I feel so amazing [Music] at the point of just life level content not like highs or lows or pushing up a hill like you guys just like I just felt alright like I thought it was like I felt better than the first day I said what's happened and I just had that moment of like I finally get it I understand why people do these ultra races just like you get to this point and all of a sudden that's like I don't need to be doing anything else I'm gonna right where I need to be it doesn't matter about getting to the finish because this is like better than finishing like there's right now [Music] popped up over Lhasa and then there was just to see I was like and I'm here the wind was just like allowing behind me started even have to pedal the last like 500 meters you know just like push me down it's kind of like I got you there now like you can have this one no more tricks then what gates no more little steep climbs like just get better the finish it was an incredible feeling I just spoke to luck he just finished I'm gonna cry because I know that writing is so much more to him than just performance and winning and like hurt himself so much just to have the pleasure of being able to ride and I think that this race proves that and Locke really just does this because he loves it so much what's more beautiful than watching someone give absolutely everything give all of them suppose to something to succeed in they are on their own [Music] little bit of a hole by career or from when I started like people who helped me when I was young to like my first experience of professional riding which made me quite like emotional and then I started thinking about like all my family and like I don't know just like this I felt like I was just reliving my life over the last 40 cows it was by far the hardest thing I've ever done in my life thank you no worries guys [Music] [Music]
