Garmin new 2699 lmtd well what's special about this guy okay yes I already have a 2689 LMT so why get the LMT HD this is to the best of my knowledge the only 6in model ever released that has both RDS and HD so I got to explain that a little bit RDS gets its uh traffic reporting information from uh you know TMC traffic message Channel which is fine and it works it gets it over FM HD is also another version of that where this has both the old RDS and the HD stuff on top of that so you can see it right here see the little logo right there it says HD traffic and uh when it receives enough information I get little weather info too which is just a basic 5-day forecast there's no radar or anything like that if you want radar you got to um you know use your phone or hook this uh garment up to pair it with your smartphone which I don't do I just don't do that I like using it just no smartphone that's my preferred way of going about it and the main difference between the regular RDS and the HD if you are in an area with coverage mind you and yeah I will link that so you can look at the difference between the uh regular RDS areas and the HD areas which is mainly limited to Major metropolitan areas and I happen to live near one so I know I get the coverage which is nice and there's no cost to that by the way it's totally free so regular RDS will give you the information on uh traffic reporting information mainly on highways and interstates outside of that not much sometimes you may get some reports off the interstate but only if it's a really major roadway this one on the other hand with the HD stuff added in what it's supposed to do and I have seen this a few times when I was using the 2599 lmthd which is the 5 in version of this um is it will add in traffic reporting information for major thorough fares so for example example if there's you know Main Street going through town and it's a very highly trafficked Road it's large there's several Lanes on either side and so on and so forth this should should should have reporting traffic reporting for roads like that I have seen it h sporadically I wouldn't count on it but it's supposed to have it is is it faster than regular traffic message Channel RDS a little bit a little bit which is nice you know for something free over FM really can't complain about that all that much of course it works Stellar on the highway for the traffic reporting stuff so that's nice I wanted it because again this is the sole 6-in model the sole one unless there was a drivve smart 60 LMT HD oh there might have been that one too I don't think so I know there was the 60 LMT I owned one at one point the drivve smart 60 LMT was there a LMT HD oh there might have been okay so maybe this is one of two one of two I think so I'm trying to think if there was probably was anyway well okay I'll just say two so there's the lmthd 2699 and the drivve smart 60 as in 60 lmthd which had the same uh traffic reporting ability okay I'm really racking my brain to think if was there a 60 lmthd yeah there had to have been if there wasn't I'll make a note I'll just post a pined comment on that just assume that there was unless I say any different yeah I think there was so okay let's just just talk about this model this was before the driv smart [Music] the best of the best for a 6 in what year uh this was a 2014 model although uh the latest version was it 8.8 pretty sure it's 8.8 yeah 8.8 I think that's a 2018 so oh and that is if you do happen to pick one of these up that's absolutely the first thing you have to do is um update the software and this thing there were many bug fixes many for this cuz this was not the most stable of models upon first release oh it's plenty stable now it works a treat no problem now but initially no no not really the screen on this one now compared to my 2689 this screen is actually slightly brighter it shouldn't be but then again the board is different so and I'm noticing that yeah it does have a slightly brighter screen but still not as bright as the 25.99 lmthd of which you know I own that too the text plenty legible on this 800x480 display and for this you don't need any more than that yeah I have the 1280x 720 on the driv smart 66 but the way this is laid out with this UI I mean you you can see everything there there's no problem with this none whatsoever ever touch response is fantastic on this I will say that too the 2589 25.99 2689 and this the 26.99 this was best capactive screen Garmin ever released even better than the driv smart 66 and the only reason I say that is because the driv spart 66 uh touch sensitivity is is a little much it it very very sensitive this one just has perfect sensitivity where you know you can just drag things around do whatever it's just nice the way this thing was laid out it's just easy easy easy and ju just the right amount of finger pressure it's nice I wish they had like this screen on the 66 to be honest but yeah but on the 66 I get that extended resolution and the only real advantage of that I have to say this is that for smaller text even smaller than like this size text there's no fuzziness on the really small text like yeah where it says speed right there maybe you can see that on on video a little bit but it looks just a smidge fuzzy but no such fuzziness on the drivve smart 66 which for some people matters I suppose I don't know if I will use this at all to be honest with you I just wanted it because it has the HD and it's one of only two models that had it other than the driv smart 60 LMT HD it acts the same as the 2589 and the 259 99 it does have that I mean if you want to pair a smartphone to it there is that Smartphone Link thing which is not the Garmin Drive app by the way Smartphone Link is still available on the Google Play Store if you really want to use it you can hook that up connect your phone uh excuse me pair your phone to it do whatever it is you have to do so if you like that the traffic reporting that comes from that sure you can add that in in but again I don't connect phones to these things I just use them as regular Navigators and they work for me but yeah I was fortunate to get a very nice example of this there's only one 80 bitt and you can't even see it here on camera itty tiny tiny tiny little hairline scratch that's just yeah I'm even struggling to see it now I can't even see it when the screen's lit up now uh one of the reasons I got this now I mentioned recently I got the drive 60 the drive 60 and just in this was just in case my driv smart 66 happens to get a bit too hot under the collar for summer driving so if that happens I got the drive 60 but what I noticed about that is there's no voice control like with this one voice command see exit so I've got the voice control with this one whereas I do not on the drive 60 and I find that sometimes now I'm not saying I use the voice control very often but it's nice when you have it I will say that because while driving I mean I'll explain the situation you're not supposed to be touching the screen while driving you're just not it's just not a smart idea you shouldn't do it which is where voice control comes in so if for example let me just turn the volume on for a second this is what I can do with this specific model voice command say a command detour creating detour that's what what I like I can do that that fast and which by the way I cannot do on the driv smart 66 cuz there's no ability to command a detour with your voice but you can with this one and the $25.99 and uh 2597 and the 2497 you can do it with that one too but with the 6676 86 no you cannot which is dumb but you know that's what Garmin did this is a rather long route which is why it's taking so long by the way I have something like a 1,000 mile trip programmed in just to run this thing through its Paces in ordinarily it would just go but because it's in simulation it's going to prompt me to touch to go so that's what it should do anyway and again remember it's crunching through about a, 1500 mile trip right here which is why it's well it still went through it though oh I didn't have to touch it oh nice sweet so it's taking me over there voice command say a command volume volume is at 60% mute exit I just like that voice control I went without it for years but then once I got it I'm like oh God this is so nice it just is it's just so nice to use yeah you got to kind of yell at it and the speaker hole is right off to this side here it's in the front on this one whereas on the driv smart 66 it's on the top and on the 65 it's on the top but in this one it's in the front so it does hear you a little more easily oh and I should also note that on this one I can go and change the wakeup phrase so right now it is this but I could change it to like I'll just go ahead and so now it's that put the volume back on okay Garmin say a command exit beautiful this is an advantage right here of having the 800 by 480 is that the take the exit on the right toward Keller Springs Road then take the first left forgot to mute it is that this looks a little nicer the uh Junction view photos yeah it does look a little nicer anyway so there we go $26.99 I like it although for most of you out there if you do like this size the 6 in um if you want to save some money on getting one I would actually recommend the 2689 LMT instead or even the 2639 it's the same thing more or less actually you know what no 26.89 cuz I don't think the 39 has the voice control in it but if you like a 6- in good screen capacitive great fantastic touch response got the traffic reporting it's not HD but most people don't live in HD coverage areas anyway then i' you know just get a 2689 but yeah I am happy to have this 26.99 just I finally got one I found one cheap I'm like okay cool
