How amazing would it be if we taught soprano, alto, tenor, and bass versions of the National Anthem to each American citizen depending on which part they're best suited to and expected them to sing their own part in large gatherings? Imagine a whole feckin stadium of people harmonizing the shit out of that. I'd probably cry.
How it's actually sung: http://i.imgur.com/kwWVkPe.jpg
The Tenor, David Phelps (second from the right), is SICK. Just disgustingly good at singing.
Nice...it kinda reminds me of my personal favorite version https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O3qD1jKNYaU
It must be difficult not floating into the sky after singing some fucking secret angel music like that.
that bass at the end tho
What's the reason behind the American anthem being such a performance piece? At sporting events etc, one person sings it, usually in a stylised (over-the-top?) style, while everyone else just puts their hands on their hearts and stands there.
In, it seems, almost every other country as far as I can tell, the anthem is for everyone to sing together; it's a community song and the focus is on the solidarity of everyone belting it out at the top of their lungs. As such, there's no fancy vocal ornamentation, it's usually just one lead vocal singing it by the book, with everyone else singing along.
What gives?
Edit: Just noticed that without the parentheses above, I just said 'stylised style'. That is not my finest work... Reminds me of a friend's school story where the teacher read out an answer just to shame the idiot who wrote it: "I think the poet used good poetry in this poem." Anyways...
Edit 2: Must stop editing my posts drunk.
Anything Gaither is usually flat out amazing. The Gaither Concerts are usually always acapella, so this is the norm.
Damn they are good.
