eulogy um family and friends thank you all for joining us here today to celebrate our dad's earthly journey to a place prepared for him by his heavenly father where he now joins our mom or as dad so affectionately referred to as his pretty lady it is indeed a time to celebrate daddy celebrate daddy's life and his legacy he left behind as he would not have it any other way his legacy lies in the hearts and blood of his children grandchildren and now his first great grand his legacy lies in the many lives that he infected with his joy his love and his kindness i am here today to tell you a little more about dad's legacy and how that legacy lives on in all of us in our children and in all that we do every single day of our lives my siblings and i shared many memorable experiences with our dad we remember him to be a strong brave our protector our friend and companion he was always willing to help others in whatever way he could and boy was he talented and creative he loved working with his hands he would make us crushes every christmas even the figurines he made himself the palm branches he would use to make the roof of the manger oh what joy and pride he took in that for our first communions he would decorate little altars for us he was so talented and artistic simone remembered him supporting her own interest in art that would be her art supplies regularly and he shared his passion for reading with her at a very early age dad enjoyed a good western he was an avid louis lamour fan and i wouldn't be surprised if he read all 100 of his novels but also an avid mass man dad was known for his creativity and imagination qualities that we experienced firsthand with his involvement in our primary school kitty carnival that would quickly take the design given by the school and along with mom design and create our costumes and the little additions were a thrill for him i remember him using a burnt corkscrew to design my fancy sailor moustache and having to bear that distinct burnt odor while jumping up on the grandstand stage and well not to mention the fancy sailor dance that he taught drilled in me and insisted that i performed it it was such a joy to see him smile when i did that he was beaming with pride dad's talent was not gone unnoticed as he served as an ncc judge for many years i remember him signaling to me while he was judging to come down on the greens where he would go to each individual king and queen pointing out various design elements in those costumes he would point out the copper works and the wire bending designs explaining how he awarded points he was so easy to understand it was like listening to a story once explained to me that for him the most important judging element was the spirit of carnival which he explained could only be truly articulated and demonstrated by the way a king or queen carried their costume he said that's one of the reasons minshell stood out from the rest i remember him telling us about growing up in belmont and barcelona street from behind the bridge as he so often referred to and how all stars clashed with renegades around panorama time he spoke about parties he would go to and dance with all the girls yes he was the best best dancer i ever knew he taught us how to tree step he said learn this and then improvise that was the best teacher he taught us all how to use life's experiences to learn from them he allowed us to fail taught us how to get back up and go again [Music] a full memory and i'm sure for that as well was being united with his eldest son ronnie after many years of being up and you could see the joy he felt at finally being reunited with him and the joy we all felt at meeting our brother and his family who soon became part of ours when he came home he would throw each of us high in the air one by one kissing and hugging us finally remember him taking turns dancing with us pulling us through between his legs tooling us around he loved to dance and sing he really did what memories we have of that the talent shows in the porch the frying of beak and shark late in the night during our last quavers locations and the impromptu vacations to laloon maruga i remember one friday we were all in primary school and dad showed up with mom and surprised all of us piled us up in an awaiting small van to take us to marouga for the weekend what fun we had and the trip was full of stories always full of stories dad loved to tell stories not to mention when lights went he would tell us about papa folk tales and corpus christi cracking an egg in a glass of water and observing the shape formed by the egg and listening to dad talk about it still remain etched in our memories dad enjoyed entertaining his friends and he made even complete strangers feel at home parang sessions would usually start at our house making their way around the neighborhood for ending at our home and did you know that dad spoke latin he sure did he would recite parts of the mass in latin for us something he learned as a young boy when he was an acolyte he knew when something was wrong or when we had something on our minds and speaking to him was so easy richard will remember walking offshore and calling that and talking with him gaining comfort and reassurances from him dad was so supportive of us and he encouraged us to pursue our passions he was always there whenever we needed a shoulder to lie on to lean on never doubted our capabilities and saw a star in each of us i remember i think it was i was seven years old and he noticed my keen interest in science and bought me a chemistry set no surprise that i majored in chemistry i guess he shared so many invaluable life lessons with us all fly high daddy as you join god and your pretty lady in heaven thank you please stand for the opening prayer oh god to whom mercy and forgiveness belong here prayers on behalf of your servant jack whom you have called out of this world in your wisdom and because he has put all his hope and trust in you command today that his soul be carried safely home to heaven and come to enjoy your eternal reward grant this through our lord jesus christ your son who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the holy spirit one god forever and ever amen please sit now for the bible readings the first reading simone a reading from the book of revelation i saw a new hover and a new earth the former heaven and the former ut had passed away and the sea was no more i also saw the holy city a new jerusalem coming down out of hebron from god prepared as a bride adorned for her husband i heard a loud voice from the throne saying behold god's dwelling is with the human race he will dwell with them and they will be his people and god himself will always be with them as their god he will wipe away every tear from their eyes and there shall be no more death or mourning wailing or pain for the old order has passed away the one who sat on the throne said behold i make all things new i am the alpha and omega the beginning and the end to the thirsty i will give a gift from the spring of life giving water the victor will inherit these gifts and i shall be his god and he will be my son the word of the lord [Music] [Music] fresh and green are the pastures where he leads me to my rest yet peaceful [Music] he guides me [Music] if [Music] know [Music] if [Music] of darkness [Music] in the side of [Music] my head [Music] the lord [Music] of darkness [Music] is [Music] glory [Music] glory to his own [Music] glory be to the glory to his own god glory glorious [Music] you are dead [Music] in [Music] they will lead me [Music] again [Music] hallelujah [Music] blessed are you lord god father of heaven and earth for revealing the mysteries of the kingdom two children [Music] the lord be with you and with your a reading from the holy gospel according to john glory be to you oh lord jesus said to his disciples now the hour has come for the son of man to be glorified i tell you most solemnly unless a wheat grain falls on the ground and dies it remains only a single grain but if it dies it yields a rich harvest anyone who loves his life loses it and anyone who hates his life in this world will keep it for the eternal life if a man serves me he must follow me wherever i am my servant will be there too if anyone serves me my father will honor him now my soul is troubled what shall i say father save me from this hour but it is for this very reason that i have come to this hour father glorify your name a voice came from heaven i have glorified it and i will glorify it again the gospel of the lord prays to you lord jesus christ please be seated now dear sisters and brothers they are always two sides of this ceremony that we are here to celebrate first of all it's a sad day for the family and the relatives of the late jack botts as brendan said in the eulogy so many memories he take with us and so many things that he shared with us so much social and human interaction and yes a sunday to say goodbye to a man who we interacted it for so long and part in and saying goodbye and fearful is always a painful reality we have to admit that that is a day where we are sad and we grieve and we mourn it is like at times like these we begged god to increase our faith on all that jesus revealed to us because those are some of the things we have to hold on to he would say to his apostles do not be afraid only have faith and we hold on to those things that he told us in the gospel today he said listen a grain of wheat in order to have a new life must fall to the ground and die an entire decade of chilling back to dust and ashes a new fruit a new beginning start over again and the example he gave to us to remind us as you would say god is a god of the living and not of the dead in other words for jack who believe in god and all that jesus revealed to us there are no endings but only new beginnings he himself revealed that he is the resurrection and the life today he said you know yes his soul he was troubled all of us are troubled with the uncertainty of dying and this uncertainty of what will happen and the great beyond and all the other things that are com accompanies that and dying jesus also he said i was troubled but he said should he bear god to save him from this over and he said it is for this reason that god sent him into the world and every time we see a coffin on us a dead body and so on there's always a reminder that is why god sent jesus to destroy debt forever so that we he said believe in him even though we die we shall surely live we have to beg god to increase our faith and to hold on to that solemn promise of jesus and finally when we are talking about ceremonies sometimes there's more about ourselves i had done the dead because it's a reminder to all of us like i dress we herself ourselves basically because we too will die every day we live is one day closer to this and so the lessons are the same man live life to the fullest celebrate every day as if our last day i said benedict once said keep dead daily before our eyes it is a real inevitable reality that one day we will face but dying well is the fruit of living well and of course doing the things that god wants us to do with all the time talent and treasure and gifts skills capabilities that he has given to us competencies use it to the fullest because one day one day one day time will be no more and as jesus said nobody know the day the time and the hour i must mention something about jack when he was in the hospital there and the last moments of his life and so on it's amazing how sometimes god bless persons in ways that we could never estimate so i'm always going between this parish and this parish and the hospital and the salmon monster benedict and going all over and i was just there at the time when the family called and told him if i could go and visit just at that moment and of course we thank god that he was given all the rights of the church till the very end he was anointed and given the last sacrament and we thank god that god has blessed him with grace and we have to hold on that his soul is in a better place died in the grace of almighty god and the grace that will take him to the eternal paradise we stand now and turn to god in prayer praying that his soul will find the peace the happiness and the joy that jesus won for us through his debt and his resurrection god the almighty father is jesus christ his son from the dead with confidence we ask him to save all his people live and undead
