[Applause] we welcome those of you who watched Auburn win again they knock off Florida to improve to 8 and8 on the season Eric freered chrisy Thomas scutty here in Baton Rouge at the marovich Assembly Center just about 6 minutes into quarter 1 here on Senior Day LSU on top of Kentucky 105 seniors Haley vanl and Angel Reese will be honored at halftime B Rosario at the free throw line you have not missed much Kentucky is a team that's lost two in a row after winning two in a row LSU is a team that's won seven in a row and really Christie finding their game here over the last month especially on the defensive end of the floor well I'm going to summarize the first six minutes of this game LSU has brought their great defense from February into March forcing turnovers and and doing what they do best and that's get to the free throw line LSU has been unable to cash in though on the offensive end they are two of eight from the field so far here's King little too strong and Del Rosario with the rebound POA up to Haley van lift van lift with the pull up three no Del Rosario the put back no Asia Petty with the rebound and now Kentucky they always want to run and Brooklyn miles is fast on the push offensive foul [Music] you talked about the LSU defense Kim M's happy with where this defense is right now it is much improved over the last month well it's been active they've gotten out of passing lanes they've denied passing Lanes quick hands active hands which has allowed LSU to get out and run they have not allowed Kentucky to get into any kind of halfcourt offensive flow and it's been everyone The Bigs especially have shot those gaps defensively and you're seeing the Improvement of LSU from January to February the record speaks for itself 7 and0 in February their defense has improved so much and it is primed for postseason play Ana Morrow locked in here in the opening minutes that's turnover on Jenkins so that development of the defense has been the big story Kim Moy talked about it in the non-conference schedule this team was not where it needed to be defensively she knows what you need to do defensively to make a run in March and into April for a national championship that's for certain she's proven it time and time again but I love what Angel Reese had to say to us yesterday when we were asking her about the defense she said early part of the season I was defending my player Ana was defending her player The Bigs weren't scoring but the guards were now we understand team defense we're active recovering for one another and we've just been better well we have a sellout crowd here at the pmac to today and we've got a big LSU fan Shaq is in the building here today Shaquille O'Neal of course LSU Legend but he is here to take part in the senior day ceremony which will happen at halftime and help escort and honor Angel Reese at the half angel talking about her relationship with Shaq and how he's become a father Fe to her and they don't just they don't talk basketball very rarely it is about off court and it is about life oh Johnson with the steal the great dribble can't she get the Finish yes put that at the top of the Highlight Reel Time Out Kentucky we have been blessed in the SEC this season with highlight worthy plays and this this one goes towards the top of the list in my book F Johnson with the handles in the open court the pass fake and the over the shoulder I'm not even see sure she saw the rim when she released that one she knew where the rim was and this crowd loving it second time out called here in the first quarter by Kentucky trying to keep the sellout crowd quiet but when you see plays like that they are energized right now well and Kyra El has done this time and time again because why she's got some veteran play on her team they're all in new roles and so she just tries to slow the game down for these young women right now for Kentucky they've got to set up Cuts they've got to work harder than they have so far just to get open so they can try to get in some kind of half court offense so Kyra El has used two timeouts here in this first quarter B lith you just get the sense and you just talked about a few minutes ago Christy how locked in LSU is on defense right now thrown to the back court and that's going to be a back court violation and another turnover that's nine first quarter turnovers for Kentucky four straight for the wild cats where Kim Moy knows if you're going to win in March getting yourself to April it's got to be defense and she just loved that last possession cuz it was five players out harassing ball handlers and denying passing lanes and lift can't get the three but Angel Reese is there to clean it [Applause] up 10 straight points for LSU Petty inside fights in for two to end the Run big rebound put back for Asia Petty and that's what I'd like to see here do more day do less of her counters just catch and go score off the offensive rebounds put it right [Music] up Morrow on the turnaround Petty's got her fourth rebound she just needed one today to go over 300 for the season which is top 10 all time single season at Kentucky so continues to add to that total one key for the ball handlers of Kentucky right now don't kill your dribble till you're ready to take that shot or make that pass nice adjustment by Russell couldn't get it the drop and here comes FL J Reese denied Petty's got it Kentucky has numbers Shear drives to the basket and is fouled and she hit her head hard on the court which is always a concern for mty Shear knowing her history so let's hope the senior from Florence Kentucky is okay she missed two games this season with a concussion two games with an ankle problem well as women when you fall down looks like she fell down at the ponytail connection on the back of the head that's always painful here you see on the bench today Michaela Williams development here for LSU the outstanding freshman missing her first game this season her right foot is in a boot Kim Moy told us yesterday it's a precautionary measure late in the season their next game isn't until Friday after today in the quarter final round of the SEC tournament and then you've got a week after that before the NCAA tournament so we'll see you see the boot out here for Williams thought they noticed something during the Georgia game and just out of caution according to Kim making sure they get ahead of it I think coach Mon's a little bit excited just to see how some of her other players would respond she's obviously going to go a little bit deeper on the bench going to go with a bigger lineup some here today so again some important Reps for some of these other tiger players last year POA gets the start her eighth of the Season today that foul on Russell so she'll go to the bench for Kentucky here you see [Applause] POA one of those players out early is Jana Kent The Freshman who averages just 7 minutes a game offense hasn't been a problem all season long it's been the defense they've been trying to get up to speed but if that defense can match what this offense has done this season this is a team you could see playing in April well in February alone LSU held every opponent under 68 points that was not happening in January and I think the loss to Mississippi State really got these players attention they've bought in and they've been so much more connected on the defensive end Petty going against three tigers and draws a foul and honestly that's been Asia Petty all SEC play she has been in the paint she has played as many minutes as she can in terms of avoiding foul trouble but she's been consistent for them it's been the guard play that's been inconsistent for Kentucky the better part of this season Del Rosario picks up her second personal foul so the Freshman goes to the bench and again that depth is going to be challenged here a bit for LSU take a look at Asia Petty if you weren't with us at the very top of the telecast the former LSU Tiger now in her second year with Kentucky and having by far the best year of her collegiate career because she committed to being a better player before this season started it doesn't just happen she got in the weight room she worked on every aspect of her game she put in the time and got the Reps in in the room on the floor and it's more than doubled her points and rebound of production from last year to this year Angel ree has her third rebounds shot clock and game clock just about even so Kentucky will settle in on defense as LSU settles for the final shot and you see Kentucky going into a two three matchup Zone here miles out to make Ben lith [Applause] work here's Kent back out to Johnson Morrow Angel Reese on the drive with one on the shot clock van lift had to get rid of it and Kentucky gets a stop on defense for the final play of the first quarter great scrambled defense by Kentucky to end the quarter trying to build a little momentum now going into the [Music] second back along the Mississippi River the USS kid docks next to the levy in downtown Baton Rouge good first quarter for LSU 20 to9 our scor Eric fre Christy Thomas scutty back here with you Kim M has accomplished so much as a player here in the state of Louisiana as a head coach for national championships she's in the naith Hall of Fame but when you have not one but two but three bobblehead days you know you've made it it is Kim Mony Bobblehead Day they were lined up how early to 2 hours before before 2 hours cuz we pulled up 2 hours early and the line was already around the PAC hey two hands two hands no no no I just want just the detail I know you can see how shiny it is we asked Kim about this I think she liked how the hair was presented no no no Kim didn't want any part of it she said they did it without me knowing but this is the national championship outfit from last year hang is that what she's wearing today no little the ring is on there yeah there's a championship ring on the uh the ring finger of the left hand so the attention to detail here's Angel Reese oh good block by Matty Shear to start the second quarter for Kentucky Sher kicks it over open three for Jenkins nope seconding 0 for three from outside the three-point line and a foul called on the Wildcats yeah that's going to be the second on Asia Petty unfortunately but I like that Push by Kentucky to start that quarter they were aggressive they got a little bit of drill penetration which was why Jinx was open on the wing uh just the postcript on the bobblehead by the way when we talked to Kim about it she did talk about a previous bobblehead that she said she looked like John bonjovi which I I I don't think is what she was looking for at that time and for those that are of Our Generation 80s bonji not 2000s yes it was big hair bonjovi she said Jana Kent oh Angel Reese wants to try a three she thought she had it halfway down there's Ken on the glass no Morrow fights inside and we'll head to the free throw [Applause] line well LSU is who LSU is offenses aren't complicated but they execute extremely well and they create mismatches because of their skill level and their versatility and when that shot goes up they're on the glass here is Ana Morrow who of course piled up all sorts of points in her two years at the Paul and she's kept it going here at LSU how prolific a score is she she was presented with she had to go work for it though it's a rebound a ball commemorating another rebound for Ana moral reaching the 2,000 Point Club and you talk about someone who has come in and been an impact player who has kept things going from the big number she put up at the Paul here in the SEC that's been a really impressive development for her and for l and I think an area that we don't talk enough about with Ana Marl is her defense we talk about her scoring we talk about her rebounding but her defense is so improved this season kimwa saying she's never coached an undersized post player with feet as quick as AA Mario Tyler rattles into three first made three for [Music] Kentucky LSU is a team that does not rely much on the three-point shot when you've got Morrow and you've got reys why would you bother they make on average four a game but they do need to make some threes van lift can't make it here two on one the other way with miles on the attack and a turnover turnover number 10 for Kentucky substitutions coming on that gives me a chance to tell you that tomorrow night SEC inside has your all access pass to the Auburn men's team at 7 Eastern then go all access with the Texas A&M women that's here tomorrow on the SEC network also on the ESPN F POA back on the floor for LSU defended by Miles as she takes it across half court van lith on the drive good adjustment Haley van lith for two well here's the bottom line if you're defending Haley van lith you want to run her off the three-point line but you have to be ready to defend her going left LSU had missed their last seven field goal attempts before van lith hit and Matty Shear doesn't waste any time on the other end to knock it down for two uh speaking of not wasting any time that's Angel Reese going by in a blur why ask Kyra Elly last night regarding transition defense miscues in her last couple of games she says we're doing a good job stopping ball we're doing a good job getting all the way back to the rim not that time but it's been getting five players connected in transition defense and it broke down big time that last play miles ran into Morrow a turnover here's van lith needs some help has it from morrow and now they set with POA Morrow oh unselfish play made the pass to Angel Reese for the two already double figures for Angel she's got 10 to go with three rebounds and now POA looks ahead and guess who Angel Reese and Kyra El immediately is telling her team to slow down she knows that right now all the momentum's going going LSU's way going Angel Reese's way she scored the last six well I think a little chuckle by Shaq says it all there and rejected by Rees off tomorrow to Van lith good job by Matty Shear but van lift fites it in for two more eight nothing run for LSU up by 17 and the pmac gets louder and Kim monkey wants it even louder Morrow little aggressive looking for the block shot gets whistled for the foul well Lis juice is clicking on all cylinders unselfish play they don't have it in transition so they're trying to exploit the mismatch of marrow which forces the rotation off of Angel Reese's player Angel re's too good that close to the rim oh yeah and she's good that close to the other rim as well [Applause] defensively missed free throw Eric right now 12 turnovers for Kentucky 16 points off those Miss qes for LSU Jenkins settles for one out of two Asia Petty coming into the game for Jana Walker the foul on Morrow her first [Music] POA Got That Elbow up and gets called for the foul I mean Brooklyn miles has been all over the ball handlers and one thing out of life is Po's responding by trying to get really physical with it that time though gets called for that offensive foul inside of six minutes to play here in the first first half senior day at the PAC they will honor at the end of the first half Rees and Van lith and Shaq will be on the floor with Angel Reese for the senior day ceremony mie Shear can't get the three and there is Angel with the rebound out quickly to Van lith one on two can't get the Finish that's one of those in kimok right now would prefer for van lith to pull the ball out another turnover now for Kentucky 13 already in the half LSU forcing on average 20 turnovers a game they are second in the SEC in turnover [Music] margin Reese against Petty no van lith crashes the board crashes a little too hard and gets called for the personal foul that's her first well as she melee trying to get that third foul on Petty threw the ball into Angel ree she just couldn't finish that time at The [Applause] Rim I mean Eric look how far out Kentucky is trying to initiate their offense against this defense of LSU and the further out you are means the further entry pass you're trying to make but if you're SN Tyler you don't need a pass siia Tyler is not shy she's got five averaging just under 10 points a game Morrow can't hit this time and a rebound for petty I would have Lov to see Maro stay on the Block there with Jenkins trying to guard her Maro so much bigger and stronger that's Petty's eighth rebound as chrisy mentioned playing with the two fouls has to be careful here because Kentucky needs her to have any sort of even play on the glass high on ball stram for Kentucky back out to row entry pass to Penny that was good defense by LSU and it's going to be Kentucky basketball saying that Rees was out of bounds time out on the floor well Angel gets called for a turnover there not happy the folks in Gold but Angel's been good otherwise scoring off the dump scoring in transition getting the blocks andil oale is loving it coming up in just a few minutes on the SEC halftime report Stephie senson Alyssa Lang here with you we'll show you the close one in Colombia between Tennessee and South Carolina also Senior Day across the SEC will'll bring you inside the PAC to see more of their celebrations know Michaela Williams no problem yeah and you on a bigger note Alissa you and I were wondering Eric Christie you know I only saw one Bubblehead we just want to make sure there was two do you guys have to fite for who gets that one uh Ste I'm not sharing Stephie great Point um we have one and Christy has it on her side of the broadcast table and she's been playing she's been boxing me out all game even when I tried to hold it earlier she got a little um Stephie the reason I would not share it with Eric is he was being just careless with the ball he was going to have a turnover with it you must you must hold it with two hands because it is precious it is bobbly and there's a national championship ring on here can I see it two hands can I see it two hands all right Stephie I'm going to keep it over here for a while and I'll give it to you in Greenville if I still have it I hope Alyssa and Stephie are resting up because they got a lot of work to do coming up in Greenville starting on Wednesday they'll get you start at 10:30 eastern time before game one of two on Wednesday LSU does not play until Friday in the quarterfinal rounds they will play the winner of the 107 game 6:00 eastern time on Friday that's the voice of Brian Hall telling Christy Thomas scutty What's Happening Here shot clock at two for Kentucky so a launch from row and now will be LSU basketball another turnover for the Wildcats that's 14 while we were uh being taught by Christ and Thomas Gundy the proper way to present the Kim mky bobblehead you saw the standings up there congratulations to South Carolina 16 and0 they go back toback undefeated regular seasons in the SEC Tennessee held their own so now Alabama has an opportunity If Alabama wins today against Texas A&M Alabama would be the four seed and Tennessee would be the five seed seed in Greenville Alabama has a chance to do something they have not done since 1996 and that is get a four seed in the SEC tournament Tyler launches and knocks down a three sophomore from Missouri leaving the way for Kentucky with eight points Tyler's just been so good for Kentucky as of late especially in the last three games and I said it early in this game they need Tyler's scoring production to have a chance of getting it up set here this afternoon got to tell you we got 3 minutes to go in the quarter it's a 13-point game the energy the way that LSU's been playing it feels like it should be a game that's a 20 or 23 or 25 Point difference but it's not that way Kentucky turns it over though they've got to pump the brakes on the turnovers they're going to hang on and they also need siia Tyler to keep making shots which she's done here so far well you're seeing the last three games compared to the previous 12 her scoring production has Skyrocket did I used to look back at that Mississippi State game where they go on a run 190 run at the end of the game against Mississippi State to steal that win on the road and Tyler was the Catalyst throughout that game for the upset get Petty a rebound from the floor on that one she gets him anyway anyhow there's Tyler inside of three minutes to go Russell sees an opening finds Petty and Kentucky hanging tough Asia Petty for two I mean this is a Kentucky team that will defend and they feed off their offense so we're seeing now they're making a run because they've been able to get some stops on the defensive end and then get out and execute offensive rebound for Reese can hit the follow and a foul is going to be called on Morrow well Petty with another rebound and this is the previous rebound degree of difficulty really high but it's a stop because of that rebound allowing Kentucky to get out and run off of the Russell penetration the dump down Petty really good when she can get a clean look at The Rim so two personal fouls now on Moro she goes to the bench Del Rosario with two and Kentucky with the basketball down by 11 teams have played it even here in the second quarter 13 points a piece [Applause] here's Shear they look for petty you're seeing LSU collapse on Petty when the ball goes inside that's why people around the perimeter have been open the last couple of possessions oh look at Petty get up for another rebound Asia Petty fighting hard for Kentucky just can't finish but great fight by the Wildcats 10 rebounds for Asia Petty already in this ball game she's doing what she needs to do the perimeter play players now need to be able to finish consistently man lift denied by Miles and picked up in front of the Kentucky bench by Jenkins Brooklyn Miles defense has been disruptive so far it's been really frustrating to the point guards of LSU so far in this game but you're also seeing from LSU they're not up in the passing Lanes to nine like we saw at the beginning of this game and they're not afraid it's a 10-2 run right now for Kentucky they brought it down to nine band lift kick to the corner wide openen three Johnson no LSU now 0 for eight outside the three-point line Petty aggressive with the block playing with the two fouls big possession here for Kentucky Shear buries the [Applause] three and that shot gets Bob starky defensive coach for LSU off the pitch he is not happy at all with his players 132 Kentucky Run final second second quarter last two games for LSU both at Georgia and Tennessee they have given up big runs to the opponents but they've been able to stabilize the ship can they do it on this possession Reese has it kicks it but Jana Kent had cut to the basket turn over by LSU I held my breath when Asia Petty went up to block this shot cuz she's playing with the two fouls but she had the defensive stand which allowed Kentucky to get out and then Matty Shear knocks it down final seconds of the half Kentucky got a shot off but it was off the mark and that will do it for the first half a six-point game as Kentucky closes on a 13-2 run so the Wildcats hanging tough against the number two team in the SEC LSU stay with us Senior Day ceremony coming up here in Baton Rouge back back from the studio back inside a sold out pmac ninth ranked LSU and Kentucky closing out the regular season it is a six-point game at Halftime just about ready for the start of the third quarter Eric Christie back with you here in Bat Rouge Kentucky outscored LSU in that second quarter surprising absolutely but I thought LSU took their foot off the pedal in terms of the defensive pressure Kentucky was able to get into the half court but credit kuy's defense as well they got stopped and they were able to run whereas the beginning of this game it was all LSU's defense harassing forcing turnovers and off of every one of those turnovers they got out and they got either easy shots in transition or easy scores in the half court offense again shooting gaps it started with the ball pressure forcing Kentucky to be rushed and forced passes and LSU was there time and time again to get the the stop get the steal and more importantly get out and run 16 first half turn I'm sorry 15 first half turnovers for Kentucky 16 points off of those Mis qes for LSU one area interest that's pretty surprising is that fourth column rebounding LSU got out rebounded in that first half and why is that shocking because LSU is the second rated team in the country in rebound margin I have a feeling we're going to see that first quarter defense here to start the third by LSU Kentucky is 13th in the sec in rebounding margin minus four per game LSU is a plus 14 in margin first possession of the quarter for Kentucky go ahe I was going to say it helps when Asia Petty has 10 rebounds just by herself Reese there defensively and last Touch by LSU be Kentucky basketball with a to shoot I'm eager to see with LSU if they continue to send the perimeter players in to try to crowd Petty we saw that petty did a great job of setting up her parenter players around the outside for some scores in that second quarter Petty trying to back in Rees has to flip it up with a shot clock winding down grabbed by Morrow off the head van LIF so you saw LSU oneon-one with Petty that time in the low post that inside Reese lost the handle Emma King comes in to knock it away numbers back the other way for Kentucky row on the pull up row had sheer open three on the wing and Mis Raj Johnson to the basket and a blocking foul is called on row sending fla to the free throw line to shoot two R Johnson crossed half court you knew she was looking to take it to the rim a little hesitation to get by her Defender and you see roow rotate over but just gets there a tad bit too late second personal foul on row and Johnson will go to the free throw line good free throw shooter at 73% at 14 points through three assists and no turnovers in LSU's most recent game that was a win Over Georgia on Thursday stretching the winning streak to seven for the Tigers who are up to eight in the net ranking as we get closer and closer to selection Sunday with those last two free throws that was a big part of the second quarter Kentucky only put LSU on the free throw line twice in the second quarter after 10 free throw attempts in the first Jenkins Off the Mark Van LIF quickly into the front [Music] Court POA dribbles it off her foots and that's going to be a backourt violation turnover on [Applause] LSU substitution quickly here for LSU Jana Kent will come into the game Kent in the first half played 5 minutes she averages 7 minutes a game on the season again more minutes for players like Kent because Michaela Williams out for today with an injury and poet just hasn't been in sync 19 minutes in that first half only one shot attempt o for one but two turnovers Rose set for a three that's off the mark and van lith tracks down the [Applause] rebound Johnson works with Morrow got the switch they got the mismatch for Maro and they found her Johnson with the assists had to hold their breath for a minute but it finally dropped in for Morrow well Kyro El said we're going to just keep trying to switch up how we def defend the screen on the ball versus LSU that time LSU took advantage of the switch Jenkins another wide open look this time Amia Jenkins knocks it down seven points now for Jenkins that's right on her season average back to an eight-point game there normally aren't a lot of bench points in an LSU game they rely on that starting five and as you saw Zero here today there's their first two on the cuts of the basket by [Applause] Kent Jenkins tribbling into trouble picks up the foul well LSU setting the on ball screen and you see Marl open up and then realizes she's got the mismatch so she gets down into the paint gets the pass gets the score and then on the other end she feels the double team come from the weak side Kent does a great job with the back door cut B on Johnson her seconds oh there's Jenkins an open path to the basket for two more well Jenkins can get to the rim she's just Str struggled this season scoring consistently once she gets there miss q and transition defense exploited by LSU Morrow into double figures with 11 to go along with seven rebounds and four assists for [Music] LSU Jenkins this time denied by Reese Angel's not afraid to put the ball on the floor across half court I asked Kimi about that yesterday I said is this part of a strategic area she said No Angel just likes bringing it up I'm yelling at her some of the time to get it to a guard Johnson for two eight points now for FL averaging better than 13 a game Reese with it for LSU now looking for a guard finds van lith I think van lith thought Angel was going to take it that time FL great adjustment count it and the foul we have seen a couple of outstanding finishes at the basket by the sophomore from Savannah here this afternoon well I'm not exactly sure what the message was from Kim Moi at halftime but whatever it was message received by F Johnson six points already here early in the third quarter her ability to hang in the air is just breathtaking at times when she can leave the floor hang adjust and finish the foul on King her seconds and Johnson back to the free throw line four for four today trying to finish off the three-point [Applause] play four and double figures for LSU Reese Leading The Way with 12 Morrow with 11 Johnson with 11 and Van Li with 10 turnover Kentucky here's Rees van lith Sprints up to Joiner but Reese with the Finish timeout called by Kentucky LSU matches their largest lead of the game out scor in Kentucky 154 here to start the third quarter well I said I believed it was going to be the defensive LSU that comes out on fire in the third and that's what we saw off of the turnover Angel Reese takes it all the way LSU the defending national champions playing like a team that want to make it back to back especially over the last month but a lot of times the biggest question about LSU is what is Kim mky wearing and it is not lost on some of the children of coaches in the SEC in this case Jackson Kyra El's son they were out shopping the other day and Jackson says mom your friend at LSU might want to wear something like this so Kyo grabbed her phone there's Jackson Kyra grabbed her phone and FaceTime with Kim just to go through the fashion I was was a little disappointed that Kyra decided not to wear one of those jackets here today but Jackson is always on top of things well first of all Eric women have their own fashion styles has hers I sit next to you for many of these games you have styles Kim has hers yes but first of all can we talk about Jackson Landers smile and how it lights up a room and as usual I ask Jackson for the game plan for today and he's definitely a coach's kid he's like we got to take care of the ball we got to avoid bow trouble we got rebound and I said Jackson who's the best coach in the SEC my mom FL with the steal out of the timeout of the finish with the left hand after a cold shooting second quarter where LSU missed nine of their last 10 field goal attempts they are seven for seven here in the third quarter I really believe it was because of their def defense I think LSU is transforming into a team that feeds off their defense we're seeing a very different team in third quarter their defense is picked up therefore their offense has been better Tyler's been good into double figures now with 11 rattles in that three-pointer that ends an 11 nothing run for LSU van lift gets tackled by Miles that went in but that was called before the basket going to bring us to immediate timeout just a second under five to go here in the third 16-point game it is tournament week SEC women's basketball tournament starts Wednesday in Greenville every first round second round and quarterfinal game will be right here on the SEC network and the ESPN app and Alyssa and the crew we'll get you going 10:30 a.m. eastern time with secc now they'll be with you with interviews between games so they'll have you covered looking forward to being in Greenville with everybody this coming week the picture coming into clear Focus Auburn with a victory earlier today so Auburn is locked in to that number seven spot vanderbelt playing right now against Georgia they're locked into number six still some things that need to work out including Kentucky they know they're playing on Wednesday it's just a question where are they going to be in the standings this is something that Christy Thomas scti has spent every waking hour breaking down scenarios for which team will finish where so I'm very thankful to be working with you here today well with Florida's lost today it allows the opportunity if Kentucky can come back and get a win to move up in the seed and lift Del Rosario has it blocked by Petty it's LSU basketball we know South Carolina locked into number one LSU Number Two Old Miss number three four five is interesting because Tennessee lost today if Alabama beats Texas A&M and Alabama out to a six-point lead in the first quarter over the agies Alabama would be the four seed that's very important because as we know top four double by you don't play until Friday in Greenville well and Alabama would finish with the identical record to Tennessee but because of head-to-head because they beat Tennessee earlier this month they would get the four SE CL behind the back van LIF with the Finish great response on the other end to quiet the crowd quickly by Petty Reese gets in deep had the mismatch couldn't get it Russell gets the rebound Russell that's Petty running the floor again Canon Del Rosario got back defensively for LSU and now Kentucky will reset Kyra Elie wants Kentucky to slow down now take some time off the [Applause] clock Shar defended by Reese Petty demanding the ball down low against Del Rosario and sheer in a trip to the free throw line that's three on Del Rosario I mentioned earlier CLA is come out hot in the third gets the steel and it's sizing up the defender an amazing behind the back pass to Haley van lith on the weak side nothing Brooklyn miles could do and F is nothing if not showtime for LSU so she has a Showtime assist to go along with that Showtime basket that she had in the first half Petty Off the Mark at the free throw [Applause] line by the way if you're wondering Shaq's still here Shaq's big basketball fan of course LS Legend but he was here at halftime to walk Angel res out onto the court and went back to a spot court side to watch LSU here how did he get your ring that little dollar dollar sign ring is Eric Free's ring I I do lease it out on occasion for a premium price oh that's a premium price ring I guarantee you well it's a it's a ring for him but it's a bracelet for me tipped up it in by Angel Reese 10th offensive rebound now for LSU but what I like is LSU is trying to exploit I mean Kentucky runs a four guard lineup so what you're seeing LS you do now is go at that fourth guard and get the ball inside Petty with the flex after the basket and a chance for a three-point play foul on Reese I love Petty's demeanor right now she is yelling to her perimeter players give me the ball it gets deflected but she stays with it through the contact such great touch [Music] [Applause] that won't drop now one for five from the free throw line is AIA Petty closing in on three minutes to go in the third and a player down back behind the play it's Matty shear sheer right to the end of the bench and we've talked about it before with Maddie battling concussions throughout her career I mean you see her go up for that rebound gets yeah gets under yeah she got hit before hitting the floor didn't it look that way yes BL Johnson inside for two 15 points for Johnson I mean without Shear they Kentucky that is needs to go inside Petty needs to get a touch every time down the floor Russell little too strong and Morrow with the rebound eight fors now for Ana Moro Reese calling for it because the defender fell down well Russell tried to draw the foul on reys at a transition no call left Reese open for the E2 good response by LSU this quarter they were outscored in the second quarter 18113 but they are a plus 13 in scoring here in the third against Kentucky and a kick ball just keeping an eye matd Shar because she has been through a lot playing in her home state of Kentucky she is still on the bench but she's got her face buried in a towel and I think she's going to make her way to the locker room so M Shear heading back up the ramp to the locker room for Kentucky and that was just great execution on the out of bounds play by Kentucky they just have to chip away and try to build some momentum here and it starts with getting a defensive stop Jenkins into double figures now with 11 Morrow on the fade away no Russell with it can Kentucky make a late quarter run like they did at the end of the second quarter Brooklyn miles off from Mark [Applause] bats now four of 11 from outside the ark 90 seconds to go in third nice switch there by Kentucky to prevent Haley van L getting downhill off that handoff van lith lofs it up denied by Petty Penny running the four back the other way gets the pass gets rewarded timeout called by LSU Kim Moy is not [Music] pleased Asia Petty playing well here in the quarter for Kentucky great transition by Kentucky unselfish play by Tyler Petty with the finish and that puts peny into a double double territory now 11 points and 10 rebounds for the Post player from Kentucky so another Petty double double 16 double doubles 18 in her career so Kyra El's team forcing a timeout now a 15-point game you can see we've got some double double Queens here on the floor in this game today between LSU and Kentucky well that's a lot of royalty then and tomorrow for those at home who are wondering is two rebounds away from going to 18 on the season and I just got to tip my hat to Asia Petty because really the only post player for Kentucky this enti in this entire season and has just been a Workhorse for them against The Bigs of LSU here this afternoon yeah look at the match up here today going against Rees and Morrow and there's peny again reaching in with the denial Tyler looks for peny petty is looking for her shot but was denied Johnson hot pass to Rees and then a turnover that's unfortunate for LSU because they had the numbers cuz Petty was behind the play there if the pass had been able to lead Angel Reese it should have been an easy two final minute of the third quarter shot clock inside the 10 here's miles working with petty petty shows the touch from outside Asia peny with 13 points nine coming in this quarter inside for two Angel Reese at the end of the quarter to put LSU on top by 15 well we talked about it at halftime Angel Reese Haley van lit being honored we'll show you a little bit of the Senior Day festivities here when we come back of course in this era senior day has another look Haley van lit playing her first season with LSU we don't know if she's going to play another season after this but honor today as an LSU senior at halftime with her family and Kim Mali at half court loud Round of Applause for Van lith who has fit into this LSU team well and then there's Angel ree who led LSU of course to the national championship last year LED onto the court by her mom angel on her right arm and Shaquille O'Neal on her left arm I'm kind of speechless I mean that is just amazing and I can't say enough about what angel ree has brought to Baton Rouge obviously a championship first and foremost but what she has done for the game of basketball in the last year and Eric as great as the applause was for Angel Reese when she came out when she left the floor the entire Arena standing up and chanting one more year and it went on and on until she left the floor see the families up in the stands here you talked about it before with Shaq and the connection to Angel they've known each other for almost two years now met at a LSU Alabama football game that was won by LSU over the Crimson side nice di I mean Eric we talked about it yesterday at shoot around the growth of Angel Reese in this last year and not just what she's done on the floor but there's a maturity out here there's a composure that at times last year I saw her get a little emotional she has been a great leader for this ball Club this year on the drive here comes Kentucky the other way opening minute of the quarter Reese not on the bench at the moment and not on the floor so we'll keep an eye out for that oh by the way we did do our due diligence we did ask Angel if she had anything she wanted to announce about what her plans were after this year and she kind of gave us a laugh and said no nothing to nothing to add at the moment there's Petty keeping it alive shot clock now down to five and there's two for Russell first points of the second half for the senior from Baltimore well Eric to your point about angel and if she's coming back or not we were getting ready to come on air and I had an LSU fan tapped me on the shoulder he said I'm not going to share it but his angel coming back and I'm like sir I think you know more than I do right now he said to you I'm not going to tell anybody there's a turnover taken away by Morrow has Kent behind her but Morrow will do it herself 21 turnovers now for Kentucky leading to 24 points for LSU Russell tough finish with the left hand for two [Music] more Morrow couldn't get it Del Rosario couldn't save it and it'll be Kentucky basketball you know what season it is Christy Thomas scy it's softball season and you know next weekend is the start of conference play in the SEC and we'll have four games next Sunday including 11th ranked Alabama taking on 15th ranked Florida coverage of that one begins at 6 Eastern five central here on the SEC network Alabama swept 21 ranked Arizona this past weekend but did suffered their first loss yesterday against South Alabama that's excellent softball analysis from you and I was not expecting [Applause] it Petty inside doesn't give up Del Rosario's got the rebound and Del roario running the floor there trying to get ahead and get a rim run been a big game for the sophomore 17 points and Eric 13 of those here in the second half she has come out of that locker room inspired and playing at a different [Applause] level here's Petty again Petty against Del Rosario and Johnson gets called for the foul Angel Reese getting set to check back in so she wasn't hasn't gone for very long they had a ceremony before the game to honor two 2,000 Point scores we showed you the presentation to Ana Morrow earlier and then Angel Reese had her moment in front of a very loud packed Pac and I kind of loved how Kim Moi delivered the 2,000 Point balls made him earn it made him get a rebound look you can celebrate the 2,000 points but they're known for their double doubles so you're going to get that 2,000 Point Ball by getting a rebound and getting the put back right that's how many points did they get that way in their careers Reese now with 20 and 10 by the way today it is her 20th double double this year and the 54th of her LSU career that's just remarkable and I actually asked Angel yesterday I was like hey if you were guarding you how would you keep yourself off the glass I was should I was surprised she answered it well I did she wants to be an analyst one day so I said I need you to put your analyst head on I said I know what I've said but what would you say and she says they better start the box out as soon as someone releases the ball because otherwise I'm going to get it and every coach will tell you in The Scouting part you got to keep her off the glass but it takes such discipline to do that because you have to initiate contact as soon as the shot goes up because her leverage her leg strength down low she knows how to get by you she knows how to get up and secure the rebound once again Kentucky playing without Matty Shear who went back to the locker room for Kentucky after taking what looked like an elbow to the Head we have received no update on her [Applause] status she number two score leading the team in assists f is going to be called called here on Jenkins for Kentucky Po and she's fouled by Brooklyn miles with 650 to go in the fourth quarter yet another time where Brooklyn miles really gets up and in Po and po just gets physical wither and forces that foul [Music] call back out top to Angel [Applause] Reese po will set things up B lift will try the two that won't go Reese rips down a rebound van lit LSU still looking for their first three of the afternoon but they're not done another opportunity after the rebound FL Johnson and Reese was fouled by petty you're starting to see a little fatigue by Kentucky they're slow to rotate when a shots going up to get a box out that possession including that foul three Second Chance opportunities again we talked about it LSU not a great three-point shooting team 32% making just four a game but over today 11 opportunities oh Marl had the Baseline side drop step instead of going to the middle Tyler pulls it back out she'll try a three how about that by siah Tyler and Kentucky will not quit they are down by 12 here in the fourth in Baton [Applause] Rouge [Music] Rees POA Po got tied up by King it will be LSU basketball with head on the shot clock a reminder Wednesday SEC network men's basketball Vandy and Kentucky in Lexington on the secc network and also on the ESPN app substitution for Kentucky Jana Walker into the game Petty will get a rest I feel like this is just to give Petty an extended break before the 5 minutes media timeout but this is an important possession for Kentucky to try to get a stop Angel Reese with the turnover that's number 14 for LSU Kentucky had 15 turnovers in the first half they have just five in the second half helping them stay close here on the road Russell hangs in the air too strong Morrow there defensively out of the scramble KY still with it five and a half to [Music] go miles on the drive fouled by [Applause] POA Eric we talked about how LSU's defense has become better it's become more connected and that's an example of it marrow come from the weak side to get that block off of what could have been an easy two for Kentucky you know coaches in the SEC have to have their picks for Player of the Year freshman of the Year Defensive Player of the Year All Conference teams in by I think it's noon tomorrow you talked about it before Nisa Morrow is in the conversation for defensive player of the year she may not get it but you've been very impressed by what she's done defensively here here's your picks the final four choose from that list absolutely I mean what's impressed me about Maro is her screen on the ball defense as a big to prevent guards from getting downhill we've seen the shot blocking ability she can defend down low as an undersized post or on the perimeter but I don't get a vote obviously but that's a really difficult you got the rim protection of camil cardoo you've just got locked out defense by Jordan Cambridge finally a three for LSU they were 0 for 11 van lith knocks one down to put LSU on top by 14 inside of five to go Russell takes it at Morrow and Marrow made her a juster shot there ninth rebound for Ana as she Clos in closes in on another double double reys why not they gave her the shot she'll take the shot angel now a 22 14th time this season she's gone for 20 or more Angel re even signaling out the play that Kentucky just called to make sure her team's ready to [Applause] defend Petty back on the floor has it closing in on four minutes to go here in the fourth quarter Russell Morrow there on the switch short with the shot and it'll be LSU basketball when we come back on senior day here in Baton Rouge well seniors want to go out in a big way Haley van lth with the first three for the Tigers here this afternoon and then Angel Reese just continues to do angel Reese things with another two points ni back to you yeah Alysa Arkansas trying to get back on track they've lost five of their last six so their seating is not set Old Miss knows they have the double bu they've locked that up in the top four a lot of eyes on theou and Mississippi State as well two teams that have been struggling down the stretch how's that going to sort things out now this is the big question okay you have four finalists for your player of the year Christy Thomas Scotty I don't usually put you on the spot but who is your pick for Player of the Year in the SEC there I've said it I've asked it will you answer it as the question I will answer it you will I have talked a lot about this and I dug through the stats I went through everything and my top two are Angel Ree and camil cardoo and I think in the SEC you can't go wrong with either one of those but I got to look at who's made the bigger impact for their team and that's where I give Angel Reese the nod Camila cardozo's stats are incredible but the reason I went with Angel is South Carolina won without her and that's just how good that South Carolina team is this season so Angel Reese is your pick for player the year in the SEC go ahead let's debate cuz I got my numbers ready no no that's my pick too so there's but I I like you I do want to know about your numbers when you're looking at things you're not just looking like Reese you can say things like well there's a leading score and a leading rebounders B goes to the free throw line but what are some of the things you've looked at inside the numbers that make a difference in your eyes I I looked at points per possession because Angel ree plays a lot more minutes than Camila cardoo I looked at effective field goal percentage as well as well as the true shooting percentage that's a lot of Coach speak first and foremost and I'll admit that but it's just to get a deeper dive into the numbers and the biggest Advantage Angel ree had was the rebounds but I looked at what she has done the last month especially to put LSU in contention CU I got I'll be the first to say in January I wasn't sure that this was a final 14 the way they played throughout February I would not be surprised to see them in Cleveland it was interesting today on college game day Rebecca Lobo Carolyn pek Andrea Carter all had LSU in the final four that gives you an indication of how they are trending up as we get into March and here they are on top by 20 with just over 3 minutes to go in the fourth quarter in the final regular season game and here's the thing we saw them at Tennessee not shoot well minus haly Bley and they still get a win and here's the bottom line with the defense and the rebounding that they have they've got a chance every night FL J Johnson's had some pretty baskets here today she knocks down another one and LSU stretches out their lead thanks to an 11 nothing run and Kyra Elie will take a timeout one final point on LSU and Reese and what's happening first I want to talk about the defense a little bit and how they develop because this has to be the piece that has to be there for Kim Moi in her opinion and it's been there over the last month well first of all we know Kim Moki knows how to win at the highest level and at crunch time but it's got to be defense because it's about matchups come postseason it's about your guard play which is another reason with the development of Haley van lift in the last couple of games but defense has to be consistent and we see been inconsistent here this afternoon first quarter great and stifling second quarter led up Kentucky gets back in the game third quarter they started off in a big way and really just not put a knockout to Kentucky you know you just talked about for Angel Reese and the addition of Ana Morrow who isn't shy about getting on the glass and getting rebounds maybe holding down some of those numbers but that hasn't been the case for Angel there's been enough rebounds to go around for the both of them well I asked Angel that yesterday I said hey what's the dialogue like between you two great rebounders and she said early on it was a matter of mine and Marl was like no it's not and so it's made me better and that's what I'd love to hear from Angel is that it's not a competition between these two great players it is about winning and she said my goal is for an Naro to be able to cut down the Nets which they'll try to do in Greenville this coming week try to win the SEC tournament they will open play on Friday evening and you can see the rebounding margin where Kentucky had the edge at halftime it hasn't been the case here in the second half now when you talk about LSU and their chances for repeating as national champions what areas might hold them back we've seen them have trouble shooting here today they don't have much of a bench especially with Michaela Williams out of the lineup those would be two things that jump right to mind they've got the defense there's another block still Kentucky ball well and I said this all season long the margin of error for LSU is very small because the injury to Samara Spence Samara Smith earlier this year she was starting for them in the post position when she went out Maro jumped into the starting lineup and she has excelled in the starting role so we know they're really rotating as far as post players just three so they've got to avoid foul trouble they' got to avoid injury they need to do a better job of taking care of the basketball and I I'll say this too I think shot selection at times has been a question Mark they just got to settle in and stay the aggressor and continue to feed off their defense and a timeout is going to be called here for LSU yes somah Smith was injured back in November in the Cayman Islands and now the substitutions this won't be the final game here at the pmac for LSU they will host in the first and second round of the NCA tournament but it's the final regular season game and a chance to pay tribute [Applause] a sellout crowd here at the pmac they hold 13215 they may have a few more than that crammed into the building here today for senior day ceremonies they'll have a video tribute after the game so the fans will hang around BL inside for a couple more and Kim M is going to make substitutions Morrow comes out now for LSU along with FL BL Json 21 points seven rebounds four assists four steals today Angel re done 22 and 14 for her five of her 14 rebounds on the offensive glass she also had five blocks today that's Off the Mark batted around and Petty fighting for it but taken away by Amman Bartlet into the game for LSU Ben lith finished with 15 and an Amoro had 15 and 10 along with four assists so another double double for Ana Morrow that's 18 for her and 71 in her career well and we got to remind everyone Ells you did this without Michaela Williams stressing out today so also impressive when you're missing a starter but hats off to Asia Petty today I thought that young lady battled from the opening tip for [Music] Kentucky still battling but LSU comes away with it closing in on a minute to go Angelica Val with the ball across half court now Kent back into the ball game and I he Bess is on as well for LSU final minute here at pmac Petty with the rebound off to Miles Jenkins so Kentucky will play next Wednesday in Greenville on the opening day of the SEC tournament LSU's next game will be 6:00 eastern time on Friday against the winner of the 10 10 seven matchup three-pointer knockdown by [Music] Jenkins strong second half for the number nine team of the country the number two team in the SEC they outscore Kentucky 2718 in the third quarter they've outscored them 1711 here in the fourth and it's a senior Day celebration at the pmac Rees and Van lith contributing to a 7756 win eight wins in a row for LSU as we head to the [Music] postseason LSU the number two seed in the tournament heads the Greenville after a 7756 win here in Baton Rouge for Christy Thomas C in our crew I'm Eric Freed so long from pmac
