expected coming into canelo territory actually born in Texas El Paso but has lived in Las Cruces New Mexico used to cross the border and he's a college student where has been two years at New Mexico State College and properly for a fighter who it's perfect how many fighters you know have taken calculus I can't think of another one well he practices calculus in the ring calculated guy who understands the calculus and the geometry of prizefighting and the arithmetic of money if it all works out well for him he's 26 and oh with the 14 knockouts a pro since 2005 won the WBA 154 pounds a piece chip against Roberto Alvarez the brother of Canelo back in 2011 and his coming out performance to the masses was the lopsided win over Miguel Cotto in New York in the 1:17 to 1:11 on two cards 119 109 on 1/3 and he dominated and the second half of that fight and in both occasions he went into the other guy's territory and dealt with the hostility of the fans very well there is Austin trout not a problem for him to be in the other guys back up [Applause] there's also a guy that rather than buy without question and here comes Canelo he won his championship against Matthew Hatton in March of 2011 and he has had five defenses and looked dominant in all of them by all that is holy in boxing and there isn't much that's holy this is not the kind of fight that the management would want their star fighter to take nobody wants to take credit for Megan is right except the guy who's gonna fight it Canelo Alvarez he's the one that insisted and with the reason we talked about he's a two-to-one favorite late in the week and in boxing if you get a fight at four to one or under you have a real fans fight and when you're if you factor into that the fact that he's on the other guys home turf it's basically even [Applause] that is a premium placed into the wagering interest and and why not they're both champions they're both undefeated they're both in their prime they both dismantled very impressive opponents mostly by Canelo and Miguel Cotto for trout I would have to say that trout beating photo we was closer to his crime than Moseley as a significant event in boxing and shot him into this world especially considering photos popularity not only around the open in New York where he's fought on major cartoon holidays thirty nine thousand two hundred forty seven affirmative responses two tickets here and they could have put more eres vanilla the start 20:21 a title and we talked about fighting when he was a 15 you can do that in Mexico you can turn pro at age 15 and fight 10 and 12 rounders when you're 16 they go home finish your homework with it with a with a championship belt by your side and Austin trout a real star in his own right very likable guy visited some veterans this week a class act here's how they match up Alvarez five years younger the height for trout the reach for trout they are big numbers for him we knock down the wall not in effect no standing eight-count fighter cannot be Saved by the Bell wall one of the referee could stop the fight positions have been put there's Jimmy Lennon jr. ladies and gentlemen a very good coming by way of knockout now in his third year as champion tonight he is making the fifth defense of his title ladies and gentlemen here is the undefeated WBA a super welterweight champion of the world Boston No ow [Applause] once again our referee in charge now the constructions Lawrence Pole all right gentlemen one of the rules earlier dress room I want you to obey my commands checks us all times your local Olympia knowing knowing what we know about how they fight the question I'm most interested in seeing is whether Alvarez has the ability to apply sustained smart pressure which is usually the best and sometimes the only way to beat a really smart talented boxer will see if it plays out that way Austin trout or needs to move has talked about there's true that this is his time for coming out two months before photo he said this is my momentum time and he made the Cotto fight look easy in the second half of that so there we are it's tougher against the move and as he often usually does you know Canelo is very patient we'll try to size up his opponent [Music] fine but the open spaces where he thinks he can work best and for trout stay on the outside move laterally try to build up some points on the expectation that Canelo does get rolling after a couple rounds and then usually a runaway train we sprout continuing to move these are the routes for him that are very important the stick and move try to build up the lead and Canelo is looking for the opening trying to figure out how do i attack you know this particular union puzzle right hand by Canelo which if you often know 50 was a bomb and the right hand behind it you'll notice that when trout punches his his forward foot steps into the plaintiff but his back foot is ready to get out of there the Hedgehog the guy with the angles and that is a smart way to pile up points and you can stay with that style that's why I asked the question can Canelo do this can he applied pressure and break trout down he can he stopped the movements and to get the right hand leading against the strong Wilde Smith Canelo just missed with the big right hand he has the idea the lead right against this guy came up just a little short that you know we'll see that again this is here Cannella watch the fight on the ropes and he got right in on that and worked the body according the script round one crowd moving Canelo doing his best inside [Applause] you [Applause] like when the was a friend Oh [Applause] [Music] [Applause] not too much advice given to Canelo between rounds we'll see how this plays out WBC champion Canelo Alvarez WBA champion Austin trout meeting in this unification in San Antonio's Texas Dave Bontempo and Larry Merchant with you as we watch 154 pounds pings boots it out as 40,000 on hand at the Alamodome [Applause] eruptions from the pains at the top goals in education it moving packed arena and they're waiting on canola and they often Trotwood let think makes them wait for 12-round to be put close place gyrados that closer he pouts ouch snaps out and his right dad but tonello now knows what the assignment is he lands in a good body shot landed a good right hand to the head he's trying to close the distance here and throughout his career his pattern has been slow starter kewal against the fighter like trout you can't afford to start to slow-moving before you know it it's an ice in the 10th rounds he picked it up here in round two yes what's the bounty good right hand by Canelo a jab by trunk one guy's trying to win by a death by a thousand cuts and the other guy is just throwing punches with mean intentions both guys using the formula that has brought them here [Applause] must've Trump I'd like to fire unlimited jabs and be able to move and Canelo you're bobbing and weaving scores a nice jab of his own Vennela is plainly the aggressive in a closed round that could matter yes it's the perception of aggression in this tight round if both guys are equally effective this is a good round for Canelo Sam was good for Austin trout [Applause] the body [Applause] take a look at Canelo with that left hook and the good right hand it's a good indication of what he would like to do in this fight and succeeded here louder now he's showing that he has some quality to go with all that quantity of youthful exposure they were impact shots round three vanilla and wash the trout between these guys 67 wins no losses 41 of the wins for Canelo 26 for Austin trout [Applause] that's five years older but we had a long 205 hour mr. cooler so it sort of balances out it does and both being in their 20s both eyes they're dope I'm totally trout near his crime Canella used to have a lot of upward mobility yet here he's trying to show to know that he's he's gonna have to pay if he's gonna take the lead Scot with the jab vanilla with the right hand trout getting his jab out there again movement critical for trout keep circling to his right Canelo he'll have to cut off the ring he takes on left hand and it comes in and shoved around by trap veteran move by trout [Applause] a persistent jab for Austin trout and blocking the shots thereby vanilla if that was incentive off-balance and if the opponent is a will do that to a box and keep the box are backing up and not knowing where it's coming that works in his favor you don't know if you can do it and try to start he's trying to fight them off here and say the price you're gonna pay for this is too high uppercut by Canelo Alvarez unclear trouts the double jab is what he's trying to stick out there and also the Greek vanilla when he comes in what Canelo knows now is he cannot outbox the box he can box him some but he's gonna have to put some hurt on it so how was he going to get past that joke that's his assignment yep that's just a jab it's the footwork it's a fighter whose defensive oriented there's a nice quick right hand inside how many punches is trout taking like that so both of them have something accrue here good third round for Austin trout there is Taylor who will become mrs. trout May 25th you see a lot of wives and girlfriends not to voting up ground side but she is [Applause] support cash-poor truck [Applause] why the chess match goes on Sal Panello Alvarez and Austin trout in this 154 pound unification bout crowd has his way there will be a buzz throughout this crowd but not an explosion because to quiet them and stay outside Fidelma coming up a little short the crowd chanting may he poem a poem a hero trying to urge their young star on [Applause] the crowd has heard that before and you do get the sense when you talk about the assignment that Canelo has that it's understood that take him longer to get there probably longer to break this guy down and has to be very methodical process he has to go to the body has to try and make them uncomfortable in some ways because he's just too slick and too quick otherwise right hand lead by Alvarez and he's are coming up short this is the comfort zone that crowd wants which is why I asked the question rolling on Canelo applies sustained smart pressure so far chad has been able to keep them off and this thing thing about it is with Canelo often one punch then turn it around and there's an uppercut as he makes a bid to move trout back a [Applause] sharpshooter like shot you can't you can't just come in you can't just try to impose yourself you have to do it in an intelligent way [Applause] even if you give away around taking some shots and you can oh you've got to get in and work the body hard even if you take a few shots just to try and change this guy's movement there is trout jamming on the outside doing a beautiful job by Canelo you know he's good fish Top Chef is in and said no this is good jab behind either going good jab and Canelo is finding the range at the end of Round four those are the two most effective punches of the round but how will they affect the scoring maybe not in this round it still might be a trout round but could be a lot of momentum going close [Applause] there you see a hard jab with Panello and it made out step back and say hey I hadn't seen that one before and there's a white hand in the second round they'll have the same effect on it when when the jammer gets out jab that can set something loose in it even if it's just momentary let's see if that's the case as we head into round 5 the jab in the right hand by Canelo at the end of Round 4 had the potential to be fight turning if they make Canelo come in Mora and step up his game [Applause] and undefeated fighter champion waging the fight we expected with trout splashing moving on now Canelo with more urgency trying to take the movement allege a couple of body shots followed by a left jab and we talked about applying the pressure should Canelo stop the movement of Austin truck to hold different flight minutes in his office anything that's too lightly not in their pet to have a fight he's in there to win the fight gonna beat you to it the two body shots and his movement gets taken away that's why we look to a sustained pressure and see how it affects the opponent second half of the fight body shot by Alvarez and then the right hand lead against the lux [Applause] the dead buy trout [Applause] with movement well it keeps that dead populated [Applause] by often trust and we beat Canelo by a whisper in his right hand wait [Applause] Canella gets beaten to the jab against left hand gets in five routes just this with a big shot what we are seeing through five rounds some marvelous parts in this place by Austin truck [Applause] [Music] [Applause] start with a quick left hand ineffective but he is coming back he has shown that there is some fight in him as well as the ability to play some angles those we get ready for right on six but Canelo Alvarez has not faced as educated a boxer as he is seeing in Austin trout trout probably hasn't seen the same country potentially is he seeing in Alvarez I ain't doing a great job of keeping Alvarez at bay this is a style fight but sometimes these kinds of showdown I've determined by what's inside the fighter not just by what we're seeing here moment to moment let's Canelo getting a right hand in that's different points in certain fights guys have to grow have to find another dimension and you get the sense that whoever wins this would find something a little extra Canelo comes in president past that chance was in a good job of his own make a short left hand there got tried to attention uppercut by piniella lands and grazing fashion but he's getting closest put up with cut by Alvarez again and then shouted back and suddenly we have toe to toe here was that big place trout is taking some shots or is that because trout thinks I've got to do this now I can't let him think that he can roll over me does that happen as Alvarez was getting some momentum inside slipped out credit was stepping in at that moment because it did look like Alvarez suddenly was finding some grain and it points to the comment about the spark we made earlier about what's inside not on the intellect but the willingness to gamble there as he killed [Applause] stop missing over-the-top scared to the jet Canelo trying to lure him in and his trout in a good rally when he was six changed livid the patience and persistence with the jab of crowd with bodyside a fight has broken out [Applause] normally you would think that's the Canelo's benefit as he lands a right hand but try to initial to this change in style in round six and he's taken some good punches well that's the part of the inside that we were talking about how will you respond when he did but the responses they hit back you've got a prizefighter well the devil just landed his best punch of the fight an uppercut at the end of round six we'll see if it carries over now you took it up we got them there we see as two guys you can box decide to see test each other particularly impressive on trout's part because it's unexpected and here he is without we're on the ropes but Alvarado shows that he's got some slick and quick himself think he's winning the fight so far all right family seems pretty happy and we go into round seven the second half of this fight underway Canelo Alvarez 41 Owen 1:30 knockouts Boston trout's 26 and Oh 14 there's a big right hand left left we talked about the momentum of the uppercut in round six and a big break dude we're not alone that was a straight straight right hand that cut of early in the round and dazed him and hurt him he looks like he has his legs back but Canelo will try to hurt of the year another big right hand by Canelo the right hand lead against the lefty it came up big for him only in round 7 ouch fighting back good right hand by Alvarez doubt right there oh not tying up not trying to buy time it's war what we're seeing here is too titleholders we want to be great men and so it's out that means rising from adversity that big white handy took thumbs up and chosen though on this Piniella with another big you I hang another one foot left hook he's a heavy-handed puncher and as you said earlier it's most likely the best country that trotters ever faced crowd is right back on but the more he fights Canelo the more he puts himself in harm's way where is the jamming and the movement that was there earlier it's been taken out of him now by the body shots and the big right hand that pulled him down and here is Alvarez shortening the distance whereas loading up his next big shot fires it to the body and drought not quite as sure of his jab right now good right hand by Alvarez excellent right hand in the body drought is back but a lot of steam may have been taken out of him by the Alvarez a short [Applause] possible flight changing big tinny as we said Alvarez once he gets that momentum almost never gives it up [Applause] there's that straight right hand hurt and may have taken some of the spring out of his legs but it didn't take it out of his heart no the first knockdown in his career suffered here they came up after this it was willing to engage but his feet movement may have been taken away from any we'll see how that plays out a cute style age now the trout Cobra Canella here we going around eight will Canelo follow up or will throw and that's what ring something else and that's what more than 39,000 paying friends are asking themselves right now and that's the big momentum changer which you see and so many of Canelo's fights but with just being a high-level fight you know that drought won't go easily and it will take more and with the break here is throughout again trying to be outside you know when he realizes he's in with a more heavy-handed guy now how tentative can that make me of course it can but it's not just that the potato is heavy-handed he's smart about he's not being careless he's mixing up what he can do the change in the swings in the swings of who's going forward he's backing off who's counterpunching who's taking the lead has made this a really fascinating back and forth as expected at this level and lived up to the billing here is drought going to the body canelo waiting for an opening trying to get him to open up so that he can counter punch him this is unusual for him and the question is does he have to do it there against the ropes when he's been successful in other parts of the ring round outside who knows the mysteries of what is going on inside of Fighters they head from moment to moment and the emotions amino ethyle exactly we dissect it as as an angles and X's and O's type proposition but there's a lot of emotion going in there with these guys and they I'll try this I'll try that and we neither fighters was they don't think they can lose they don't know about giving up so they automatically assume when there's some adversity that they will dig down and get over and then we've seen both guys get over some hurdles in this fight [Applause] the end of that round trout gave a little nod to Canelo as if to say hey you're pretty good kid maybe better than I thought under seeing anyone's do that they never fight after about round 10 the trademark for the agent he's fighting spirit he's tired and that's why he's only fighting his first you keep it has contending from the body to the head all right metabolic thing drought outside where he wanted to operate and here was Canelo well if he tried to bait him it didn't work here Oh interestingly trout's trainer Lily Burke said to him in the corner he's tired that's why he's fighting in these kinds of spurts we'll see and around now we go at the terrific battle at the Alamodome Canelo Alvarez and Austin trout in there 154 pound unification bout they found tempo and Larry Merchant with you here in a fight that has had the ebbs and flows that you would expect from guys who brought unbeaten march in here the right hand by Alvarez what's the body álvarez trying to land a couple of punches that will halt the movement of trout and at times he has succeeded but trout out there again now able to move and go laterally the less towards the right-hand after the left of the body this misses with the right hand left hook by Alvarez right hook and phrasing fashion got in by trout than a good left hand down the chute scores for him how would you evaluate a wall how Canelo has done putting off the wing in this box it's hard to put off the ring against a guy he has both his feet under and leaves retro right it's not like he's running in one day in any one direction and you have to cut him off at the pass he just has to stand there in there who's smarter and he's quicker who's tougher and who's stronger double jab here by trout's Canelo right hand partially blocked [Applause] now coming up put on a lot of these with often seen Canelo come forward with his hands around his head you know protecting himself here he's almost like he's inviting trout to take some shots at I'm looking to counter him as here as trout not going for that bait right now staying outside not Committee the jams I analyzed you wonder about we talked about emotions here's the boxer suddenly seemed for 30 seconds to be getting out boxed out smart outsmarted as those last two punches at the end of the round show [Applause] okay [Applause] [Music] turn around [Applause] he's tired [Applause] you know sometimes when a trader says to a fighter heat the other guy's tired it's because he takes his own fighters tired try to pump them up and then the corner of Alvarez they're pleased with what they have seen through nine rounds he's wounded the heaviest launches he scored a knockdown at the beginning of round seven and this has been a tremendous fight that his two guys he's doing what they do best and they're opposite skills but trout the boxer has been loyal to Zack stayed outside move made it difficult for Canelo Oly and Alvarez the big puncher getting inside scoring a knockdown acting now like he thinks he has to put some pressure on Canelo that he's in a tougher fight than maybe he thought this would be if he has suddenly become stuck in Canelo at this late stage he has to become the gamble and go in and fight what would be Canelo spikes and there's an uppercut by trout that just misses jab here by trout four shots by trout getting right hand lead by pomelo is block three nice shots by trot and a beautiful uppercut by Alvarez and and that is the danger to trout of what he was doing as he tries to seize the ground as he stepped it up and got brave he got drilled just loving this level of fight though the guy willing to gamble like that and then the other guy knowing enough that he has to make them pay this is if this is chess it's speed chess [Applause] of a jab here by trousers [Applause] álvarez do you have in a right hand shut up on his head this time so the trap that he was shedding a couple rounds ago he gave up on that there's a jab in a right hand by and no point in this fight as tart landed a punch that seemed to make Alvarez step back or maybe even blink I don't know how you measure that round to round but whenever there's been a punch that you think the guy's hurt it's been the flat punch that Alvarez is throwing on top and that usually plays a big role in the sport bugs over the course of the fight and then these are very good shots here by trout you get one big shot by Alvarez to counter it and it's worth the multiple of the shots by truck but this is a good round for and we can see the concern on the future Taylor trout how feisty a few rounds ago that was before the knockdown yeah I think the jab by trout the body shot by Canelo this has been a good pace in this fight all the way throughout [Applause] that was the signature shot after trout missed a couple as he was getting brave as we as we head to him you know toward the championship round I don't think that anyone now questions that Canelo Alvarez is a fighter you know that he's not just a manufactured star in this showcase here he's had to reach for something extra it against the guy is able to stay outside and move there's had to be patient wait a little longer to try to get to him keep the pressure on and he has done that and in a fight of this magnitude you expect guys to do stuff that they partially nullify the other guy we've seen each bag do something to nullify their at home trout making it harder for Canelo and Canelo dropping trou another good uppercut as trout takes the lead you may not be getting hooked when he's getting upper cutting [Applause] you have hereby throughout coming up a little short mellow song can walk that right down [Music] good reflexes by both guys at this stage of the fight was faced by both guys at this stage of the fight which great to wanna be great [Applause] outside his trunk and hazard up something with the jabs and then Pannell else take it away with a good right hand he's had the power shots in his fight [Applause] good right hand leave by Alvarez [Music] [Applause] Chuck comes forward with some urgency Alvarez is the boxer and sticky and kind of stick them [Applause] with a loan reversal it comes crowd good body shot by truck good body shot by alvarez ice right hand winds that exchanged by driving trout off yeah and trout winced when he was hit with that shiny his eye almost closed right now trout might feel like he brought the knife to the gunfight as Canelo here's the bigger punches in round 11 [Applause] the beach [Applause] okay Ruthie okay one of the things in everyone's mind and worth going back 20 years to chalets Whitaker is that Whitaker looked at he won the fight by a wide margin he got a draw out of it can't shout get the fight this close of a fight and he was knocked down and he's absorbing a bigger punch does he even deserve it in any account but that's a question in the mind then he'd get it a legitimate question they were going to round 12 the finale it's been our great point tactical warfare Canelo Alvarez Austin trout at the Alamo Gaara a fun tempo and Larry Merchant with you here Larry through 11 what does it stack up on your school club I have Canelo ahead based on the heart of punching and they're not there but I recognize that it could go the other way here is trout roofing on the outside then trying to get in two fighters who have shown excellence via different methods trout on the outside foxy moving putting in combinations from angles alvarez when it gets close enough room trout knocking them down and being the heavier country and the moment could change right hand laid by Alvarez once again the hard punch how much of an impression will that make on the judges and this fight good hard right hand usually wipes out three kids the crowd is coming forward trying to make an impression both on Canelo the judges and the crowd I'm still here good jab by Alvarez this has been a terrific pace by these guys no slow periods each guy doing what brought him here trout firing more leather Alvarez firing harder punches absolutely however as acting as though he thinks he's won the fight from what he has been hearing from his point and from how he's boxing here right hand by Alvarez dock continuing to come forward good right hand by Alvarez good right hand again by Alvarez probably the hardest fight both of them have ever been their support he throws the hardest puncher crowded place and the best boxer that Alvarez had faced and in that kind of a matchup something has to give in it each guy the different thing you know in terms the narrow terms of the boxing world Alvarez proved himself tonight he can fight anybody also automate also to mention here there is a rematch clause in this contract but it's only Alvarez's to exercise if Alvarez wins the fight he doesn't have to fight try it again he can move on if trout gets to the decision Alvarez can choose whether he wants to fight him again Alvarez gets the star treatment I don't think we'll need that rematch for I see how the judges have it though and this was something in which Alvarez dump-down showed a lot of patience and showed a lot of composure against the guy who is doing well yeah and you know he showed that very early on that's what made him so promising as an 18 and 19 year old who saw that and said Wow how is it going to translate when he starts to fight superior talent how significant will this play in the scoring that was round seven early on the big round for Alvarez and started his charge in the second half of this fight not only was that big but what it launched was big got that right through we're talking about his patients he was fighting a guy who was doing everything almost flawlessly in his boxing style for a few rounds right hand against the lefty and it proved big I see some people putting shaking their heads which makes me think maybe South got the nod but we'll get the official verdict any second trout and his family have the feeling this went the other way let's find out ladies and gentlemen after 12 rounds of action we have a unanimous decision here are the score totals judge at ringside Raiden Seco scores the bout 115 to 112 orange Shellenberger cease at 116 to 111 and Stanley Christodoulou scores about 118 to 109 all three in favor of the winner he is now the WBC WBA and ring the magazine super welcome in hell or who y'all there what a lahar ah ha ha yes and if there is any head shaking it was from the people who put trout did better than the judges did I would also shake my head at 118 to one on my agree with you but that's why they have three judges and they get it right and I think at the end of the day or at the end of the night they got it right they did and a big second half route trout's family and that was one story we saw men are happy they were after rounds 5 at 6:00 it is tough to watch a loved one fight yeah I don't like any other sport that's his oldest daughter she's 10 and that's the other side of bringing your kids the wetness before him but it's never been bad and they're finding out something about real life and their dad put up a good fight this was really entertaining and he made Canelo and outlast him and this is a fight will make his teeth rebellious Allah will avenge the pero be similar McCord and the nosotros mms inteligencia care mar appeals and tomorrow and tomorrow 71 Michael boy Ossorio Austin trout is a very difficult fighter he's a southpaw but we were more intelligent in his fight today and the better the opponent is the better he will get you said that the speed would be the difference in the outcome do you feel that was the difference that people are apparently Farrington s es la velocidad Intelligencia fella diferencia como lo z go see Miravalle esta aqui y hasta aqui that's it the velocity was definitely a factor in today's fight and saying if me sangria although it sees my blood and he was going to avenge the loss Canelo can you tell us what happened in the sixth round it seemed as though he had hit you with a good body shot the round before but then in the sixth round you knocked down Austin trout for the first time to become the first man seventh round pardon me for the first time in his career pastoring and set around Celtic boom when gold peppero anything and setting with a polo positano death no no este from Paquita bajo poquito la la pierna no kiss a DC lemon skin appear o pero todo bien yo izumi trabajo es esta muy ready to fight and would you like to fight Floyd Mayweather next hey cop some maybe maybe leave a packet go congratulations [Applause] what would you say was the difference tonight Boston in this height he was the better man he was quicker he was stronger he was a better man to me I haven't been having no excuses for tonight you know he was the better man tonight I still want to thank God for this opportunity for allowing me to be here asking that you just accepts my it helps me accept my defeat humbly and I promise you I'll be back stronger I'm going back to John Bors so I'm just happy to be here you were knocked down for the first time in your career in the seventh round can you tell us what happened you know you called me with a good shot you know I was I want to say I was sleeping alone when I was fully prepared for this fight again have no excuses the better man won but you know I promise you I'll have to go back to John boys and come back stronger I've learned more from my loss therefore my way so I learned a big lesson tonight and uh you know he was a good fighter why would you say you were not able to be successful tonight why would you think that coming into this fight you would be able to have a plan that you could execute and then not be able to do it during the fight you know he boxes a lot better than I thought you know he moved a lot better than I thought not that I was underestimate him but we was just prepared for a totally different fighter and he shocked us he shocked us did the open scoring and knowing the scoring and knowing that you were behind from the fourth round on than the eighth round did it affect the way that you approached the fight and had to continue to fight definitely I had to come out of my comfort zone he tried to press the action a little bit more you know he changed it up he's a complete fighter but again I'll be back and I would love to get another side I had all those titles he got around his bow all right Austin
