[Music] over a thousand years before the birth of Christ a young Pharaoh died his burial was carried out in a hurry and his name would shortly be erased from The Monuments he had built all memory of his Reign would soon be lost he was to vanish from history for 3,000 years his name was tutan [Music] kamoon the story of the boy king tutan kamoon would eventually become inextricably linked with the life of an Englishman Howard [Music] Carter Carter first came to Egypt as an artist hired to sketch and paint the ancient monuments he quickly also became a knowledgeable archaeologist a freak storm in the winter of 1898 brought Carter to the temples of Western thieves near Luxor to assess the damage and record the wall reliefs but it was his journey home one morning that was to change his life [Music] [Music] for [Music] my dear elari you say yes sir I thought that whole area was dug out so did I I suppose the flash flood must have loosened the dirt so this is a draw drawing of uh the step my horse tripped over it's part of a tomb so it could be a royal tomb exactly and no sign of Tomb robbers all the evidence suggest not my God you really think this could be it eh yes sir I really do when can we start Theodore Davis a retired Boston lawyer financed a number of Carters excavations and he likeed to put on a show ah C allow me to introduce Lord croma British counil General of Egypt that's fine please meet you sir all set yes sir all set good let's take a look lead [Music] on mind your head there is often evidence that a tomb has been resealed after a robbery but the really exciting thing here is that I can find absolutely no sign that tomb robbers have been here before us excellent well let's open it up yes [Music] [Applause] sir that's enough shun after you sir no no you first you're the expert very well you might find the air is very bad these Chambers haven't been opened for 3,000 [Music] years it would appear to be empty is this some kind of joke you were right about the smell you told me you were sure you made a fool of yourself Carter and what's worse you made a fool out of [Music] me [Applause] hello hello 4 years later in 1905 a British Aristocrat arrived in luxa to convalesce after a serious Road accident lady carav I hope that you and your husband will have a very pleasant St my name is Anon badut I am the manager if there is anything anything at all that you require please let me know I may require you to find a less pretty [Music] [Music] nurse Davis Davis look at that Jesus what the hell is that it's a gold petrol it's what the Pharaohs wore across their chests my God will you look at that we know who it belongs to I'll have to [Music] check hey canava come and take a look at [Music] this this is absolutely magnificent isn't it what is it it's a pectoral with a pharaoh War around his neck pure gold you won't find any of them in Tiffany you see Pharaohs were considered semi Divine by the ancient Egyptians and gold represented the Flesh of the Gods something like this I guess must have reminded them that you were kind of holy how interesting so does this mean you found a complete Pharaoh's tomb ah I will now most of it's empty like the others huh Leonard yes these uh tombs have been here for over 3,000 years M unfortunately the tomb robbers got here before we did the petral and the other things we've found are are rare achievement so there's no chance of finding a full Tu well you're talking about the Holy Grail we keep trying but no one's found one yet this Valley was the fonic burial place for over 500 years thir 36 pharaohs 26 yeah 26 pharaohs are buried around here so far I have found over half of the 27 major tombs yet discovered and all of them have been robbed did find one last year yuya and THU hadn't been touched had lots of stuff in it but it wasn't a pharaoh wasn't a whole deal that's the thing that we all looking for have some tea thank you thank you now so how many are there left three three that we know of we intend to find them all don't we Leonard may I by all means help yourself I found that under a rock there's the carou of uh someone called Tuton common is he a pharoh Leonard seems to think he is well the references we have to him a few and far between I'm afraid but he's buried here probably most of them are but then again he could be in another Valley or well anywhere really we don't know well wherever he is this is very pretty I hope you find him we will [Music] Tuten Kon was just 8 years old when he became king these were Dark Times his father had been a heretic defying the traditional Gods temples lay in ruins the empire was under threat [Applause] now Egyptians look to the new pharaoh to return their land to Greatness he would have a new name Tuton camoon was given to him after becoming King it means the living image of amoon in honor of the greatest of Egypt's [Music] Gods this sent a clear message Egypt's ancient Rel religion and culture would be restored Tuten kon's Reign promised to be a glorious New Beginning ladies and gentlemen welcome and thanks for coming I have invited you all here today to watch the opening of some jars I recently discovered in the the Valley of the Kings I don't know what's in them maybe nothing at all but Leonard here seems to think they're worth opening he says they may have been stolen from a royal tomb we can't be sure of that until we actually open them sir let's take a [Applause] look now they may be 3,000 years old but they're still pretty strong got it Mr Leonard if you please a decorated color of Papyrus beautiful some bags of what appear to be salt and linen bandages linen bandages eh a load of old rubbish anything else in there Leonard nothing that be of any interest to you sir no I was given to understand that Mr Davis had made a valuable contribution to archaeology in Egypt Mr Davis is an amateur and a fool may not the amateur and the professional both make a contribution yes but all he cares about is showing off for him Archaeology is about ensuring that the name of Theodore Davis isn't forgotten by history you wouldn't by any chance be Mr Carter would you yes I am how did you know who I was I was told to look out for the rudest man in Luxor tell me how does one go about getting started on this digging business are you serious yes I rather think I am it seems to me that Archaeology is a fine scholarly Pursuit with all the excitement of gold perspective I suppose there's something in that hello sir hello would the gentleman buy something a very nice piece from the tomb of a pharaoh looks good it's original that is very nice it's a fake what no sir it's not fake how could you tell it was a fake the paint is barely dry ah it's not always so easy sometimes you have to live with something for a while before you can assess it's true value if it's genuine then like all really good art it will appear better every day if it's fake familiarity will certainly breed contempt look up there can you see the beauty of the line in the relief the wonderful thing about Egyptian art is its immense dignity and restraint only the ancient Egyptians could have produced it a sense of the Sacred was in their everyday lives and their art was made with eternity in mind you can't fake that I'm sorry I can be a bore on the subject would you like to come and work for me Mr Carter [Music] [Music] careful [Music] okay now the blood is [Music] gone Al this is a good place is it unfortunately Davis has the only permit to dig in the Valley of the Kings so that's off limits to us but Carter says this is a very promising [Music] spot [Music] ready sh beautiful isn't it beautiful what is [Music] it found anything Leonard could be sir take a look at this what is it a fonic cartouch look [Music] what po M HEB horm HEB my God Leonard you know what this means don't you and then there was one all we need now is Toton [Music] common as Pharaoh tutan kamoon had to per perform one vital task he had to take a queen ankis sanon was considered the perfect choice she was his sister an incestuous marriage would ensure that power remained within the family it also suited Egypt's military leader I who effectively ran the country he would have been Keen to see that no other officials gained undue influence through marriage to Mark the dawn of a new era tutan kon's government began the restoration of Egypt's great temples but for the king the most important new building work would be his [Music] tomb first a site had to be found in the Valley of the Kings I himself may have selected it he was probably familiar with the valley having already started to build his own tomb here [Music] well what do we got not sure got to be to in common yes could be let's get in what what's happening what did he say he said that Davis has found a new Tomb they think it's toon C hey hey canavan Teddy what news the Valley of the Kings is history pal we got him toot and common toot and common you better said we'd get him and we got him well congratulations thank you thank God now I can retire I need a drink is it him but it's too soon to tell of it yeah I think it could be I see I don't believe him what we saw today was not a tomb it was a pit they turn up all the time Davis said he found some material bearing the name of Tuten car maybe he did that's perfectly possible but that does not make it a tomb it looked like a tomb to me of course it did but there were no hieroglyphs no carvings no carto none of the things that have pointed out every single Royal tomb that's ever been found so why would Davis say it I don't know he's sick he wants to go home and most importantly he wants to be the man who found the last Pharaoh's tomb in the valley what about Leonard what does he think he wouldn't say he doesn't want to deny his boss I promise you sir what you saw today was not a royal tomb so you think he's still out there do you yes I do in the valley in the [Music] valley morning canvin Teddy how are you all done yep glad to be going I thought I might take up your concession oh don't waste your money take it from me the Valley of the Kings is dug out there's nothing left not much left to me either Carter doesn't agree with you Carter is chasing rainbows he still believes there's an intact Royal tomb out there if there there was I would have found it he seems so sure Carter once told me he was sure of something made me look a fool don't be taken in by him George the man's a Daydream safe him been a pleasure lady Canam I saw Davis this morning he was leaving well you know my thoughts there no great loss so how are you doing up here all settled in are you yes yes it's most Pleasant thank you I think we should apply for the concession to dig in the valley so you do not believe the valley is empty that's correct Davis claimed to have found everything if you don't mind me saying so Mr Davis is a fool Lord canavan doesn't believe that DAV has found the tomb of tutankamon but Lord canavan is an amateur is he not maybe so but I agree with him well I am very happy to Grant you the permit one year with an option to renew for 5 years subject to our approval good let's hope it won't take that long indeed these are the usual terms and conditions there has been a small increase in the annual fee but I understand is lordship is a wealthy man sir I don't think there'll be a problem as long as Lord canavan is allowed to recover his costs through the sale of Antiquities that may not be possible things have changed since you worked here it would require negotiation on each item you must understand M cter this country is no longer a playground for European treasure Hunters I'm not a treasure hunter of course not I may be French but my job is to safeguard the heritage of Egypt return the contract when you are ready I hope the valley will reward your efforts you have waited a long time for this have you not yes almost 20 years let us hope it will be worth the wait this is a map of the valley as you can see the whole area that we're interested in is covered in the debris from other digs so first of all what I've done is to divide the entire area into grids that way we'll know exactly what we've looked out and where then what I propose is that we clear away the old debris get right down to the Rock floor and only then can we begin to excavate properly that way we'll stand the best chance of finding something that other may have missed then I think we should get started don't you yes sir [Music] Ali morning Carter morning sir [Music] hello Carter lady canavan my husband asked me to come and see you we've got to leave leave war with the Germans what everything has to stop government [Music] orders [Music] [Music] during the war Carter was attached to British intelligence in Cairo as a translator and he returned to painting [Music] ah Lord Caravan lady canavan it is so good to see you back for years I have seen nothing but soldiers so many uniforms now at last the world returns to noral oh darling don't hurtle and Anton this is my daughter Evelyn I'm going to see Howard to give him his present hello hello thank you for the gramophone everyone should have music in their lives do you give me a cigarette does your mother know you smoke really Howard you're the last that victorians I make no excuses for being oldfashioned pups is very excited to be back in Egypt you can't wait to start digging again are you going to find tons of gold I don't know about that isn't that why you do all this Di no no that's not why I dig at all then what is it about everything I've learned about the ancient Egyptians tells me that theirs was a culture unlike any other I want to know more about them I want to know everything about them obviously I can't I won't but if I could just dispel the Shadows a little see a little further into the darkness that is why I [Applause] dig nope it's no good let's keep going on that one okay sir [Applause] how much longer can you afford to pay pay Carter to move rocks from one place to another he has a system there a means of redistributing rocks at is second and N most of the excavations carried out in the valley have been very sloppy Carter wants to be certainly leaves them Stone Unturned [Music] it was essential for Tuten kon's tomb to remain undisturbed if he was to have a successful passage into the Afterlife the plan was that Beyond a concealed entrance a tunnel would lead deep into the Rock to a series of magnificent Chambers which would be filled with treasures for his final Journey work on the tomb would be carried out in secrecy until the day of the pharaoh's death for the young Tuten Kon the need for a tomb must have seemed remote but it was to prove more urgent than either he or his Queen could have [Music] imagined [Music] one square left yes right next to where you and Davis thought you'd found him the workman's H yes have you ever wondered how old those wman hats are they date back to Ramy the 6th don't they I'd always thought that they' been built for his tomb Builders it's me too but rames came 200 years after tan Kon didn't he which would mean that there was nothing there when tutank moon was buried and whatever lies underneath must be [Music] [Music] untouched [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] show [Music] me morning Carter you've arrived is it all dug out we're ready marvelous just marvelous and only are spit away from Teddy Davis's last tomb in the valley H well done old chap so much for American know how eh don't be so sure what do you mean tomb robbers it could be yes come on this is what troubles me the fill is a different color which means the tomb RS probably got through here why would they bother Plastering it over and filling the tunnel up again I can't stand this for God sake break [Music] in [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] Abby what can you see can you see anything yes wonderful things wonderful [Music] things let's open it up shall we my God I don't believe it look at it what are they beds tables I'm not sure they look as though they were made yesterday they're over 3,000 years don't it's incredible there's only one thing what where is he there's no other doorway you don't think this is just a store room do you some store room pups there must be another chamber yes look there's a doorway [Music] here is that it let's break through we're not allowed it's against the rules what and I'll lock up look it's quite straightforward we are not allowed to break through unless lco or one of his inspectors is here what the hell are the rules I'm damned if I see why we have to wait for some pipsqueak French bureaucrat he could revoke your permit we could lose the tomb Howard's right pops why tell him what look what I'm asking is that we have a quick peep to see what's there after all the money and effort I put into this place I say it's the least I'm entitled to what if he finds out we didn't KN of course have a look cover up the hole say nothing I don't make it any bigger you first now let EV and go look at this this is it this is the sh how on Earth did they get it in we not the first there's no seal it [Music] up oh my God there's another set it's [Music] intact the seils are broken my goodness he's in there we really hit the jackpot Howard congratulations thank you we should Lear her of [Applause] course I found you so Davis was wrong after all well I never did believe him and only a few yards from where he thought the tomb was that's right well he deserve it m cter I shall come and inspect the tun tomorrow this is a most excellent day for our department and for the country I shall arrange storage facilities at the Caro Museum no it's far too early to involve the museum what whatever we do nothing must be rushed these things are precious I understand all care will be taken I'm putting together a team of experts I've already contacted the Metropolitan Museum as well as our own British Specialists this is a huge task please do not forget there are National interest to be considered that may be so but this must be preserved for all posterity that is far more important than the concerns of any single nation and as his lordship's field director I intend to ensure that the correct procedures are followed at all times I hope that's clear this is an Egyptian tomb Miss good morning good morning follow me and if I may remind you please don't touch the walls or any of the objects inside the tomb oh extraordinary quite extraordinary I do congratulate you thank you so this is what do you suppose it would appear to be the first of one or more anti- Chambers as you can see there's another small chamber through a hole near the floor here now wa and at the far end the entrance to the remainder of the Tomb but you have not looked through of course not are you ass sure this is in indeed a tomb and not just a cash this is remarkable but for a royal tomb it does seem quite small I'm not sure of anything [Music] yet please don't touch at least not until it's been photographed I am sorry I am glad to see that the instincts of the scholar have not been overtaken by those of the treasure hunter I was never a treasure hunter Mr Li very well you may proceed I shall leave my inspector M ibraim Mohammad to attend on my behalf you'll be so kind as to give your reports to him and please let me know when you are ready to break through of course I would also be most grateful if you would arrange for a steel gate with a lock to be placed at the entrance of the Tomb we do not want any tomb robbing do we good afternoon gentlemen good afternoon afternoon first of all thank you all for coming now as you can see what we know about the tomb so far is limited we have no idea what lies behind this wall and before we make an opening I propose that each item in this chamber be individually numbered and annotated Harry Burton will then take a photograph in situ a brief description will then be made either by myself or by Arthur mace who has kindly agreed to join us from the Met I wouldn't miss this one for anything then and only then will removal begin this is where we need to be particularly careful gentlemen and that is why I have called upon py Calendar's engineering skills to help help us with the dismantling of the larger objects once outside everything will be brought here I would ask you all to pay particular attention to any Papyrus roles that we might find now I understand that they may not be as glamorous as many of the other objects but their writings will tell us far more about who these people actually were Alan Gardner will be in charge of that material the task before us is prodigious gentlemen there is no precedent for how we should proceed but the world and future Generations will not easily forgive us for our [Music] mistakes right you are off you [Music] go it's crowded enough in here as it a bloody man sooner or later he's going to make somebody drop something back keep back come on right way come on move [Music] back come on come on get out of the way keep back and go t anything I should get these people back yes sir this is ridiculous sir they're all behaving as if this was some sort of bloody Fairground attraction have you any idea how many people were here yesterday 12,000 12,000 I mean where in God's name are they all coming from it's making work quite impossible and it's only a matter of time before there's an accident I think it's something we have to put up with old man the amount of Interest this thing has generated is quite extraordinary I've been giving interviews all morning where Front Page News Howard H well no one's spoken to me if they had I'd have told them to bug her off did I tell you his Majesty's asked me to Buck house for lunch tell him all about it what's this do you suppose it's a shaby figure there should be a number on it ask mace to look it up pretty isn't it stop worrying Howard there's hundreds of them and don't forget who's paying for all this we've counted over 600 objects in this room alone everything has to be wrapped and protected so far we've used over half a mile of cotton wding and 16 bales of Calico and we're only halfway through through good morning gentlemen good morning good morning Howard this is Harry Burton if you need any photographs speak to him I won't allow any other photographers in here oh my God it's extraordinary Carter look at this oh my God Evelyn come and see this oh that's beautiful aren't they lovely this must be his wife she's anointing him with oil now mind your head's on the way in it's rather low morning Carter how's it all going we're very busy now if you could just keep clear I'll be with you when I can right yes well shall we come back later yes it is beautiful isn't it as soon as Tuten kamoon was old enough his Queen was expected to produce a child the future of Egypt depended on it without an heir the Empire could be flung into chaos on the death of the king in incestuous marriage between Royals might have made political sense but producing a healthy child from a union between sister and brother was fraught with risk Tuten kon's Queen anamon miscarried at least twice but even dead babies were considered precious they were of Royal Blood each was mummified for eventual burial with their father make out of the way make space move out of the way make way way move out of the way come along now make way please come you down there move move out of the way you yes you get out this is private property get off it now move who let him in here do you have any IDE idea who that is that's viagel from The Daily Mail all he's responsible for is stirring up trouble and writing malicious gossip like that Bloody curse story communication with the Press is only allowed with the times I will not tolerate any exceptions do I make myself clear yes where are you going herard I'm not a school boy are you looking forward to the opening everything's ready I've emptied it all out apart from the two Guardian statues I thought they should stay why not you will cover up our little hole won't you I wouldn't want lco seeing that I wish we could get rid of that bloody man but we have to deal with him we mustn't forget that try little flattery always works with the Froggies you know you should never have signed that deal with the times it's it's only made matters worse I thought it was what you wanted I must say it's been rather a good deal for me oh did I tell you I was thinking of having a little Cinema film made no no I'm sorry I can't allow that allow what to nothing nothing I was just leaving good night sir good night every I mentioned the idea of a film I told you you wouldn't like it what Howard would or would not like is beginning to irritate [Music] me good morning everyone this is a great moment in my life already this tomb is the single biggest find in the history of archaeology in Egypt and even if we find nothing more it will enrich beyond measure our knowledge of what was once a forgotten But Mighty culture no one knows what lies behind this wall it may be another anti- chamber may be empty or if we're lucky it may be a burial chamber with an intact Royal tomb if it is I trust that we will respect the pharaoh who has laay in peace here for over 3,000 years and that he will forgive our intrusion made in the name of science the only possible justification and not as some have suggested in the name of prophet whatever we find I shall of course expect the same standards and procedures that I have employed in the clearance of this chamber to be maintained at all times let's open it up shall we how you know there is a rumor that you and Carter have already broken in [Music] [Music] really Ali [Music] H can you see anything what do you see I see a shrine of blue and gold it would seem to be an intact tomb with a sarcophagus and a body it would seem so yes then you are aware of the rules of the concession if intact the government is entitled to deny to the excavator any claim to the objects recovered I intend to enforce this condition that's outrageous one moment out I understand the rules perfectly Miss sililo but a court of law might well disagree with your interpretation the rules are notoriously badly written after all besides although the tomb seems intact we don't actually know that yet do we I suggest we leave things as they are until Howards had a chance to open up the sarcophagus and see what's inside then we can decide what's best don't you agree very very well until the sarcophagus is open now steady take it easy be careful on the steps Carter what is it look at this poor man the more we go on the sorer I feel for him you know it looks like there are four of these Shrine covers before we get to the sarcophagus we still can't really work out how they ever got them in getting them out without damage is proving to be the devil's own job excuse me one moment so can we repair this here well I'd like to see what Lucas thinks what's this oh um we found those yesterday in the treasury mace thinks they're almost full term the one on the left is a little girl you can still make out some of the hair on the scalp I think they're the saddest things I've ever found I'm sorry evening Carter sorry door was unlocked let myself in I thought you'd be here sooner help myself to drink hope you don't mind of course not what can I do for you why don't you pil yourself a drink first what's the problem I gather haa and Hall have resigned and leaving yes I believe so with Gardner that makes a third of our team who have walked out so Gardner is a personal friend of mine he's one of the finest brains in England and came here at his own expense as a personal favor to me or and Hall as you well know are he a courtesy of the Metropolitan I had a call this morning from New York they want to know what's going on tell them that they chose to leave they weren't working properly that may be so but these men gave our team International validity I can withstand lco if I can convince him lco is an incompetent medler whose boss was previously imprisoned by the British they will try anything to get rid of us I will not have him in my tomb and that's final it's not your tomb her it's [Music] mine the point is you're the best Excavator in the world without you this tomb would never have been discovered your achievement is unique but your public relations skills are somewhat lacking if I may say so and unless we're very careful I shall lose this tomb are you questioning my leadership not at all but I would ask you would be more careful both with members of our team and with miss Sho I will not gruble to that Bloody Frenchman where did that come from it comes from the treasury mace asked me to have a look at it ask Evelyn she was there I don't think this has anything to do with my daughter and frankly I must tell you I don't like your intimacy with her my intimacy your feelings for her are quite inappropriate you're old enough to be her father apart from anything else what you mean is I'm not a gentleman don't put words in my mouth but that's what you mean isn't it I think you should [Music] leave [Music] I don't think you should come here again very well for most of tutan kon's Reign the real power was wielded from behind the throne by a military Council run by the young King's advice visor I but when tutan camon reached the age of 18 he would have claimed his inheritance to rule Egypt as a Divine Pharaoh the king's Newfound power would not last long in his 10th year on the throne tutan kimun died exactly why it remains a mystery some believe he was murdered by his own advisers or perhaps he just had an accident examination of his body using modern scientific techniques showed a leg injury which could have been fatally infected tutan Kon was still a teenager and left slowly very slowly tilt Downy py down tilt tilted all right slowly little slowly after Carter where have you been hacking I have to go to Kyra oh yeah I've had a telegram canavan is ill nothing serious I hope I rather think it [Music] is forgive me I I've been foolish no it was my fault that we argued no there's something I want to say to you please don't tie yourself my affection for you has never changed you must believe that I uh I thought you might like to see this it's part of a lamp that we found in the Tomb there were two cups this is the inner which when lit would cast its picture on the [Music] outter it shows tutanka Moon and his Queen it's beautiful even I can tell it's the real thing tell Evelyn not to worry I'm [Music] [Music] prepared tutan kon's young Widow anamon had produced no air so the former advisor I now came to the throne to cement his power he married tutan kon's Widow probably another incestuous marriage there is evidence that anamon was I's own granddaughter what saddens me the most is say you won't be at my wedding your wedding I'm engaged to be married we haven't announced it yet father said it was an awful cown for an 's daughter to marry a mere baronet he was joking of course he didn't care about things like that congratulations thank you lady canavan the carriages are ready goodbye this is for you it's the terms of the concession my husband was very keen that you continue with your work he agreed with the government that you remain in charge of the clearance of the Tomb no matter whether it remain intact or not I won't let him down no goodbye Howard [Applause] goodbye yeah I think we're going to have to lift this Frame up a couple of feet to get the right angle of Leverage Aly Ellie can you give me the right double how's it going good if you're looking at the damage don't blame us they must have just banged it into position they don't seem to have taken much care it took us 12 hours to get the last one out we should be able to restore it when are you going to be ready in there oh I don't know there's a crack across the lid they filled it with gypsum yeah we're going to need angle eyes and differential pulley to lift it tutan Kon had died but his tomb was unfinished now a new site had to be found in a hurry his body was probably placed in the Tomb his chief advisor I had already built for himself it was not designed for a king but it could be made ready in time tutan kon's coffin was placed inside a stone sarcophagus at the center of the burial chamber to be surrounded by four gold covered shrines one within the next each covered in sacred writings to protect the King on his journey the small tomb was crammed with everything tutan Kon would need in the afterlife there were beds chairs couches musical instruments magical charms chariots jewelry swords daggers Shields torches cosmetics and boats to carry him on his long [Music] journey Tuten Kam moon was not buried with the care one might expect for a king the golden coffin was too big and part of it had to be swn off to make way for the lid of the sarcophagus tutan cun's final resting place was in a tomb built for a commoner and assembled in a rush good good afternoon m cter m leco you come for the opening of the sarcophagus I have my only regret is that Lord canavan isn't here indeed though I would have had to remind him that all the usual rules still apply I hope you understand that yes of course Arthur are you happy yes peky you happy ready have all right gentlemen we left on three very very gently 1 2 3 and lift come on and we can move this leg P gentlemen P come on gentlemen put your backs into it we can move this leave come on [Music] gent that's it that's it good good she's coming she's moving that's good that's good yes it's moving no gently slowly slowly good excellent work keep it going keep it [Music] [Music] going go keep lifting it py come on another foot we can tie it up [Music] it's TI enough it's TI [Music] enough have you ever seen anything more beautiful there would seem to be a coffin inside the tomb M you're looking forward to seeing what's inside yes and no I wish people would stop interfering they just well they just getting the way I know what you mean sometimes it's hard to keep in mind what we're all here for isn't it no I know exactly why I'm here I never forget it for a second and why do you think that is then I want to find him Arthur I want to know who he was I want to talk to him well you may well find him but at the end of it all he will be is a mummy he's not going to talk to you is he and if I can also ask you to be careful on the steps into the tomb they are very steep ibraim this little is for you Mr Carter gentlemen I have an announcement to make today I was forbidden by letter from Michelle Leo from escorting friends and wives of my team into the tomb to show them the sarcophagus this follows a number of discourtesy shown by the Egyptian public works department and its Antiquity service the level of interference is now intolerable and shows a total lack of respect for the late Lord canavan and his extraordinary generosity and affection for this country over the last 10 years as a protest myself and my collaborators refuse to continue our work in the Tomb until such impossible restrictions have been removed that's all I have to say I've been asked to go and lecture in America you like it there they'll treat you like a king you should see a doctor Arthur too much sound in the lungs that's the real curse of the Pharaohs I'll be fine once we're away from Egypt I shall miss it dreadfully M cter I am sorry that it has come to this I must ask you for the key to the tomb the refusal to work is in contravention of the terms of the concession my department will now take responsibility and overall control of the Tomb and the excavation you mean backfired the government are concerned the hotel trade is vital to them when they're worried about losing tourists leco is Keen to reopen the tomb but he needs an international team to do it and he's asked me to go back under his proposal I see that I remain respons responsible for the costs of the excavation yes and I am to renounce all claims on the contents of the Tomb yes duplicate pieces that the Cairo Museum feel they can spare will of course be seeded to you at the discretion of M lco I suppose I will do everything in my power to make sure that you receive a fair selection my husband
