oh come on as I'm trying to demo this to you the app is not functioning properly this is one of the buggiest apps I've ever used I'm not using this app I just got back from Home Depot where I had to buy not one but two cans of wall spackle to fix the holes in my studio wall where I was beating my head against and trying to get this app to work [Music] hi everyone welcome to Pal to Tech today we are talking about fujifilm's brand new X app I'll show you how to set it up properly we will go over using all of its features and be sure to stick around toward the end of this video as I do have some important tips and some issues I found that you should be aware of as of the date of this video the new Fujifilm X app is free and it works on all of the following devices iPhones running iOS version 13 and later iPads running iPad OS version 13 and later and Android devices running Android 11 and later as far as cameras are concerned the app will work with all of these Fujifilm X and gfx series cameras if you don't have a supported device or a camera you will need to use the older Fujifilm camera remote app I do have a comprehensive review of that older app on this channel as well so the question of the day is the new Fujifilm X app any good overall yes it is very good but there's a few important things that I think you need to know this is going to be a longer than usual video but please stick with me as we are going to unpack the whole thing you install the app either from the app store or Google Play Once installed choose your country agree to the terms of service and then you decide if you want to share usage info if you say no to both of these by the way it won't affect the functionality of the app next you're going to need to make sure that the app has access to the following four features on your device Bluetooth photos location and notifications for photos I recommend allowing access to all photos on your device for Bluetooth make sure that you allow that on either iPhone or iPad click OK if you see this message on Android allow it to connect to nearby devices also if you have an iPhone before you get started using the app at all I would swipe down diagonally from the right corner owner of the phone to verify that you have bluetooth enabled the icon should be highlighted in blue next is location information and the Fujifilm X app will not connect to your camera at all unless it can access your precise location on your device not only that but it must be set to both always share and share precise location this means that the app can access your location information even if you're using a completely different app and your Fujifilm app is closed and just running in the background let's return to this topic at the end of the video where I definitely have some opinions on this once you enable notifications which I do recommend doing with this app you're all finished with setup the app has five primary sections connect Timeline Activity support and settings however the connect section offers five additional items to manage your camera we're going to go over connect in just a little bit timeline and activity are confusing because they both sound like the same thing I want you to think of timeline as sort of your photography shooting diary it shows a history of everything that you have done with both your camera and your app and it's displayed in chronological order on a scrolling timeline but activity is a bit different it's more of a high level you know executive overview of all photos taken as well as cameras lenses and film simulations used since day one of using the app now the very first time you try and access the activity section you're going to be prompted to register for something called network service registering for this account allows the app to store all of your camera and shooting activity data right inside fujifilm's cloud service there are major reasons that the app is using this suppose for example you lose your phone this network cloud service account will always keep everything syncing together properly across all devices and all of your cameras to register for Fuji film's network service you cannot use a regular email password account registration instead you can only register with an apple Google or Facebook login now you don't absolutely have to create a Fujifilm network service account in order to use the app if you don't you can still use the app to control your camera or transfer images to your phone but you will not be able to use the activity section of the app I do recommend registering for the Fujifilm network service account and just use either your Apple or Google account credentials to sign up the next category is support some of these links just pop open a regular web page and digital camera q a doesn't really help with much of anything Fujifilm can we please put in here a comprehensive manual that covers all features of the app and use that same easy to read mobile friendly design that you have for the online camera manuals the items and settings are pretty self-explanatory at the top you manage your account with fujifilm's network service it allows you to download all of your activity records but this has nothing to do with using the app or syncing your data to it it's just sort of a reference if you want it if you do end up downloading it you basically get a compressed folder containing some files the primary activity file is in Json format and it's called xlog this text-based document contains all of your activity data perhaps someone one day could build a desktop app program that could import read and work with the years of activity history that would be in those files some other settings worth mentioning are show only transferred images on the timeline details which helps to filter down your timeline you can also change how often the app syncs with the camera I tested with syncing every 10 seconds and I found that a sync that often runs down the device and the camera batteries much quicker than a longer sync time period so you are definitely going to want to experiment with that at different intervals if you're concerned about battery life for both your device and your camera you can also go into settings for activity records and change the unit of measurement to feet or meters as well as allow Google Maps to be used obviously if you turn that off you won't see in the timeline Google maps showing you where you shot your photos getting back to the timeline if you see a Green Dot that means that you need to pull down to refresh the timeline so that the app can show you the most current activity however if you don't see any activity on your timeline that you know you shot on a particular day try clicking on the plus icon right here choose the day in question and then add that specific event which will then appear on your timeline additional activity items also include photo shoots that you've done in this case I was out shooting on June 6th I shot 19 still images no videos and I transfer them to my phone Fujifilm also adds company announcements right to your timeline as well now some of the items right on the timeline are tappable and they take you to a details screen other items don't do anything for example I can tap xg3 all day long and nothing happens but if I tap say on the activity Square here it opens up a Details page inside the details page I can click the little pencil at the top right doing so allows me to edit the title add additional details and so forth I can also tap right on the maps and see exactly where I took those shots speaking of geolocation I had set the 10 second most accurate details view here's the area that I shot in I tested this by taking a photo here here and here and so forth as I walked around the dock and here's what it looked like on the map after the app had tagged my photos with geolocation data set to refresh every 10 seconds I mean it's not down to the actual meter or foot but it's pretty close it also shows the camera stats during the time you shot those photos which can be helpful let's now connect our camera to the app assuming that you have a supported camera with the correct firmware and if if you don't know the firmware version of your camera turn off your camera then press and hold down the disp back button while at the same time turning it back on your camera's current firmware version will be listed under body version so now press the disp back button again and then turn off the camera then turn the camera back on and let's continue you need to now go into your cameras menu if you have a newer camera like an xt5 look for the little Double Arrow icon that's the network USB settings section if you've got an older camera like an xt3 go into the wrench area and into connection setting on all supported cameras you will see the new Bluetooth smartphone section go in there and then make sure that Bluetooth is turned on now there's other options in here that we will discuss in just a little bit but for now select pairing registration you'll see a screen that looks just like this at this point put your camera down and pick up the device you want to connect it to inside the Fuji app go ahead and tap on the correct category here you can either tap the little plus icon in the upper right corner or you can choose the pairing a new camera button right in the middle once you do that you will see a screen that says Bluetooth pairing is in progress now if after about 20 seconds you see a screen that says pairing is not complete go ahead and select your camera's correct firmware version to continue it should finally display a screen that allows you to edit the name of the newly registered camera if you want to do that at this point you can then click register once you do that you'll see your camera appear with a few options next to it and a Bluetooth connected icon in blue you'll also see a message right on your camera's LCD screen that confirms the pairing if you're trying to register your camera or just using the app in general and you see this red icon appear right here in your camera's LCD screen that means that the camera is having trouble acquiring your location data make sure that you have bluetooth enabled on your device and then try reconnecting also if you're still having trouble make sure you see some of my tips toward the end of this video assuming that you now see your camera registered in the app notice that there's three dots right in the upper right corner those allow you to modify how a specific registered camera interacts with the app in this case I've registered in xt5 and here I've registered nxt3 each camera has their own unique set of settings again to access them you tap the three little dots right next to the specific camera that you want to edit once you do that inside that area you can set image resize when transferring I'll explain the details of that once we talk about transferring photos later on for activity records you can specify very specific types of activity that you want to have the app record and keep track of I recommend when you're first starting out just set them all you can always change them later on and if you notice that your timeline is getting too cluttered with redundant or too much information this is where you go to fix that for example if you constantly see lens after lens cluttering your timeline you can just turn off the app from collecting lens information from that specific camera now you want to keep transfer in background on unless you have a good reason to turn it off this way the camera will automatically transfer the shooting and photo information to the app you can also change the name of the camera and turn on location sync at the bottom is an option where you can update the firmware and by the way just as an FYI many of these same options they appear inside the Bluetooth smartphone section of your camera's menu if you want to use the app on more than one device for example you have an iPhone and an iPad then you're going to need to repeat the camera connection setup that we just went through for every single mobile device that you would want to use let's now move on to actually shooting and then tracking your activity using the app and to get you set up for success with this let's return to the Bluetooth smartphone section of your camera's menu if you're using the Fuji app on multiple devices say in Android and an iPhone you need to be sure that you have selected the correct pairing destination before you go out on your shoot if you don't do that the camera won't connect with the app choose the correct device and then when you open up the app it should then automatically connect to your camera likewise if you want to get rid of a device you can delete it from this menu right here Auto Image transfer is a big one this means that you want all of the images that you are out and about taking with your camera to be given a transfer order basically you are telling the app that you want to transfer a copy of each image that you have been taking with your camera over to your device automatically something very important to note the Fujifilm app will not allow you to transfer raw files only images in JPEG and heif format you can specify the format you want to use by going into this menu right here now for some people I realize not being able to transfer raw files is a significant limitation of this app so hopefully Fujifilm will add this feature in the future the next item smartphone location sync I recommend leaving on if you want location information added to the exif data of all your photos the app uses your device's geolocation tracking features and then it syncs that and writes that information out to your photos exif data image transfer while power off if you set this to on that means that even if you turn off your camera it will still continue to transfer your photos to the app of course this assumes that you have a battery in the camera if you're just getting started in using the app try setting this to on and see if it works okay with your workflow you can always turn it off later on speaking of which I will tell you that your camera's batteries will definitely take a hit when you're using the app and cons instantly transferring each photo I noticed that this camera's battery lasted maybe three quarters as long as it normally did without the app connected and in some cases it lasted even less now that was me your results May Vary for resize image for smartphone I kept this to on if you have it off the camera is going to transfer the full size jpeg so if you're shooting say the largest size jpeg on an xt5 the file size being transferred will be about 17 megabytes at 7728 by 5152 pixels however if you turn on resize image it will now be resized to 2.3 megabytes at dimensions of 3840 by 2560. this resize option is also available to you in the settings in the app when you're transferring photos so basically at this point you're now out shooting and your camera is constantly syncing all of the details about your photos your lens is your settings and so forth with the app but suppose the battery in your phone does or let's say that it slips out of your pocket and falls in a lake and you didn't notice because you were out so engrossed taking photos maybe you shoot another 100 photos and then when you return home you realize you don't have your phone anymore so you go out and you buy another phone so now with your new phone again you install the Fuji X app and you register the same camera again but what about all those photos that you shot that are still on the SD card right that's in your camera basically all of the activity that occurred between the time you lost your original phone and right now when you installed another copy of the Fuji app on your replacement phone so that must mean then that none of that hour-long shooting activity plus the data from you know those hundred photos will appear in the app's timeline on your new phone right well I've got good news for you just tap on upload activity and all of the photo activity that was tied to those 100 photos that you shot between the time you lost your original phone and right now will magically appear in the timeline and activity sections on this new phone so how is that even possible the answer comes from a very special folder that your Fujifilm camera actually writes out to your SD card it's called activity and it sits right next to the normal DCIM folder that you normally work with inside this activity folder are one or more text-based log files and that string of gobbledygook is all the activity that was recorded by your camera locally since the last time it's synchronized with your app so now when your camera connects to the app on your new phone it will check for upload activity in that file or you could manually tap the upload activity button right here once you do that it reads all of the information from that log file located on the camera's SD card assuming you've got it still in the camera and you haven't erased it and then it updates the activity and timeline with everything that you did since the last time it made an update in this example that would be that you know one hour and those 100 photos that she took once it is all done it will then delete that log file that was on the SD card and create a new log file right on there ready to go in case you do again lose disconnect or don't have your phone with you this really does give some peace of mind in knowing that you don't have to rely on your smartphone being always on and always operating and always with you when you're out shooting images as long as you don't lose that SD card and you keep it in the camera you could in theory reconnect the app to the camera with the SD card in it and it should update itself with all that missed activity at least in theory I seriously think this is one of the most important and awesome features of the new app as I mentioned earlier in my rundown of the app layout screen the connect section actually contains five important items let's start with an easy one a remote control for the camera it's pretty simple and it basically acts as a remote shutter release button you can also put the shutter dial in B for bulb mode and then lock the app remote control button like this if you do this it will keep the shutter open the entire time until you release it from the app next we have backup and restore now this feature was previously available in the Fujifilm X acquire app but I think it's much better here it allows you to save all of your current camera settings preferences customization Etc and then you can restore it at a future date to make a backup you simply tap it give it a helpful name and then tap backup here's an interesting idea what if you made several backup types based on the various shooting scenarios that you do for example you could have a street photography backup with settings specific to that a wedding backup and so forth then you just restore to the one that you want to use when you're ready to go into that shooting situation to restore just go to the backup area and select the restore that you want to apply to your camera but there is something you need to know there are two camera settings that will not be backed up and saved if you use the backup restore feature those two are the custom white balance settings and your network settings [Music] foreign [Music] two items here are fairly significant and both are located in the image acquisition photography section when you click on image acquisition photography it'll use the camera Zone built-in Wi-Fi because that is needed by the last two items and this is why you'll probably get a pop-up message asking you to join your camera's Wi-Fi network this network is not coming from your home or office router it is coming straight from your camera once it connects several things will happen first you will see two icons that appear at the top and they represent the final two items of the app photo and video transfer as well as live view shooting second your camera is now kind of in this weird trance almost as if it's being hypnotized this is basically now a tethering mode meaning that the LCD screen on the back of the camera is now off and you cannot use any of the cameras buttons including the shutter release button and so you need to do everything from this point forward from within the app and just FYI to get the camera out of zombie mode and return to normal you need to tap on the little white top left Arrow right here you'll then be taken back to the main menu of the app and your camera will Now operate normally the first item allows you to browse all the photos and videos stored on your SD cards in the camera you can tap the slot number to switch between the two slots if you have a dual slot camera remember that the app will only show you jpeg or heif files if you don't see any photos there make sure that you have set up your image quality in your camera's menu to shoot in either jpeg or better yet raw plus jpeg assuming that you are shooting both raw and jpeg another option you could do is to make sure that your camera is saving the raw files to One SD card and the jpegs to another then in the the app if you still don't see your photos there tap the other SD card and that'll switch out of the raw saved SD files to the jpeg ones you can also toggle the view from a grid layout to a fit to width scrolling layout there's also a pretty good filtering ability as well tap this and you get a screen with a set of options to filter by date rating folder on the SD card file type and subject although I must say that subject filtering doesn't always work out check this out I sorted by person you know which the app narrowed down and found one photo which um well is not a person regarding the rating filter you can't actually rate a photo in the app rather you rate them on the camera which then the app reads and then allows you to filter by to rate a photo that you've taken with your camera press the playback button on your camera then while you're in playback mode press the menu OK button and then you'll enter this menu find a photo that you want to rate and then rotate the rear command dial to choose the number of stars once you're all done press the menu OK button to exit now when you use the rating filtering option in the app you can see that it immediately filters the images by the rating that you choose you can also zoom in and pull up the details of any photo using pinch to zoom on your smartphone or your iPad there's also this little information icon in the upper right that displays a menu of basic image info you have to choose the info icon every single time what would be handy would be to have an option in the app that would always display the info from image to image so that there's no wasted space at the top and the bottom of each image regarding videos that you shoot with your camera you cannot actually play those videos back inside the app you can only just browse through them and you know it's a video if you see the little video camera icon right here one of the major benefits of using the app is the ability to quickly get images and supported videos transferred from your camera to your device if you have Auto Image transfer order turned on then as you're out and about shooting images will transfer automatically and you may see this green message appear if you do don't tap the little X right here or it will close the message and nothing will happen and you'll see this little download icon instead a handy tip is to tap anywhere to the left of the X to start transferring those images to your device as soon as you do that your photos will start to appear in the photos app on your smartphone or on your tablet now if you don't have Auto Image transfer order turned on then you must manually choose the images that you want to transfer from your camera to your phone to do this select the photos that you want to transfer decide whether or not you want to resize once it's done all of those photos that you had selected will be copied from your camera's SD card to your device unfortunately with trans screen videos that you've shot it is not so straightforward and it is hindered by the limitations of using a mobile device for example trying to transfer a short 4K video I shot on my camera the iPhone spit out this error message because the video file was in 4K resolution at 60 frames per second however a 4K 24 frames per second video file transferred with no problem on an iPhone but it got hung up every time I tested in Android and I had to cancel out of it and even stranger on iPhone if you select resize file for transfer it makes no difference the file size and resolution will remain the same overall I think that transferring videos that you've shot on your camera to the app needs way more polishing and fixing for the app's next firmware update when you are transferring batches of photos that can take a while especially if you have resize turned off however there is a secret that I'm going to share with you now that will speed up your photo transfers considerably let's check it out in your camera's Bluetooth smartphone setting look for an option called Wireless com frequency setting unfortunately that option is not available in all cameras particularly not on the xt3 there are two options 2.4 gigahertz and 5 gigahertz set it to 5 gigahertz because this is a much faster Wi-Fi speed for transferring photos now the range on 5 gigahertz is not as good as 2.4 gigahertz but so what if you have your camera right next to your phone then that shouldn't matter let me now show you what a difference it actually makes so in this test I first set wireless com frequency setting on the camera to 2.4 gigahertz then I connected the camera to the app and I selected six photos to transfer to my smartphone I turned off resize so that I would be copying over the largest JPEG file sizes available on the xt5 and finally I I started the timer and the transfer at the same time it took 2 minutes and 35 seconds to transfer six photos in full size jpeg format next I set the camera to 5 gigahertz and once connected I selected the exact same six photos turned off resize and then started the transfer the final result it only took one minute and 22 seconds basically that is half the time now here's a hack if you want to quickly copy some photos from a different SD card to your phone in this example I'm looking for an older SD card that still has some photos I shot on it I put it in the xt5 and bingo the images appear in the image acquisition photography section I can then copy over all the ones that I like to my smartphone or my iPad this is a great way to pull a few photos from a shoot that you're doing that are on another SD card transfer them to the app and then upload them to social media however there is one little gotcha with this tip if you use an SD card with photo that were shot using a different camera model it won't work for example the photos on this SD card were shot on an xt5 I put the SD card in an xt3 connected the xt3 to the app and you can see that it doesn't work we now come to the final area of the app and the one that I actually want you to have the most understanding of live view shooting live view shooting is a feature that allows you to use the app to completely control and shoot with your camera in real time go into the image acquisition photography section of the app and tap on the little camera icon right here when you do you'll see your live view screen here you can control the camera to shoot either photos or videos tap the camera icon to shoot photos tap the video camera icon to switch it to video mode something to keep in mind you cannot use HDMI out at the same time you're using Live View mode you'll get this error when you are shooting Stills using live view shooting on the app you can set shutter speed exposure compensation f-stop ISO film simulation and white balance white balance is a bit limited because you cannot set a custom white balance using a gray card and you don't have an option to adjust the Kelvin temperature you can also turn the flash on or off as well as use the camera's self timer regarding focusing the camera allows you to tap the screen to set Focus but that will only work when shooting Stills you cannot tap the screen to set focus at all in video mode the app just takes over and it auto focuses on its own in addition even when you are shooting Stills the app is limited to single point autofocus only for example even if you have your focus area set to say Zone and then you connect your camera to the app it will still only show up as single point in the app also there is no continuous autofocus mode even if you set your auto focus mode to C when you connect the camera to the app it is just going to be AF s with single point and here's another thing you should know if you have your camera set to M for manual focus mode then you connect your camera to the app and you go into live Shooting mode if you are in Stills mode you cannot focus at all you won't get any tap to focus point however if you are in movie mode then the app will still auto focus the problem dear viewer is that not only can you not focus the camera with the app but the app won't recognize it if you are rotating the manual focus ring on your lens if you happen to have an xt5 or an xt4 or any Fujifilm camera that has a Stills movie mode dial you don't need to worry about it and that's because the app will allow you to shoot video even if your dial is in Stills and you can shoot Stills even if your dial is in movie mode regarding latency and lag it gets the job done if you're shooting static scenes but moving subjects or shooting video and then moving the camera there is sometimes allow bag also I noticed that the latency performed so much better on iOS than it does on Android sometimes the lag goes away and it actually is very responsive other times it sort of hiccups and there's significant lag but overall live Shooting mode is something you should try out now hold on before you start using it I need to tell you about some exposure triangle issues I found with regard to both Stills and video shooting if you have the camera set to all manual exposure mode before you connect it to the app meaning that you have fixed values set for ISO shutter speed and aperture then you won't see the exposure compensation setting option available in the app but wait there is more and it does kind of get confusing so the best way for you to understand it is for me to break it down for you right now if you set a fixed aperture an automatic ISO and a fixed shutter speed you still won't see any exposure compensation setting here and that's actually kind of weird because one of my exposure triangle settings is in automatic and on the camera itself if you rotate the exposure compensation dial you can see right here that the exposure compensation dial is adjusting the settings of the automatic ISO dial now in this example if you set your aperture to a automatic your ISO dial to a automatic and you have a fixed shutter speed you will see that now your exposure compensation setting appears and it will make the scene either brighter or darker depending upon how you change the setting but what happens if the app can't adjust a specific exposure triangle setting and it has to step in and deal with that let me show you what I mean in this example I'm going to set my aperture to automatic a fixed value for my ISO and a fixed value for my shutter speed okay so have a look at these settings right here my shutter speed is a thousand my ISO is 125 and now that you see my f-stop setting of F2 is in red I take this to mean that the app is basically telling me I can't go any wider so I'm going to have to step in and adjust one of the other exposure triangle settings so what would the app now do if I were to adjust my exposure compensation let's find out I'm going to go ahead and try and over expose as much as possible using the exposure compensation settings okay so there I've added five stops of exposure compensation it's now definitely Overexposed as you can see here none of the settings have been changed in the app my shutter speed is still one one thousandth of a second my ISO is still 125. my aperture is still F2 and yet my exposure compensation shows five stops Overexposed and clearly in the preview you can see that the app adjusted my overexposure and it showed it to me right in the preview window so now I'm going to actually take the shot and I go to my camera and I hit the playback button have a look at the actual image saved to the SD card of the camera as you can see it is still showing five stops Overexposed for exposure compensation and none of the other exposure triangle settings were touched the interesting thing is the app in the preview window showed me a very different image than what I got in the camera and I do believe that this is the typical Behavior the camera does with the exposure compensation dial when you're not using the app but I wanted to bring this up to you because the app does show you a very different view in the Live View mode than what you're actually going to get when you take the shot so make sure that if you see one of your exposure triangle settings in the app that's colored red that you give it some extra consideration when you are taking your shot and finally let's see what happens if we set all of the exposure triangle settings to automatic automatic aperture automatic ISO automatic shutter speed as you can see in the app it is now in program mode because I have all of the dials set to automatic it's chosen my shutter speed f-stop and my ice so is on automatic and another thing to notice is that only ISO can be edited in the app you see that right there even though the other exposure triangle settings shutter speed and aperture were also set to automatic you do not have the ability in the app to adjust them so now I need to show you something very important with video shooting if you are in Live View mode with video everything that I've already told you about with regard to Stills shooting applies meaning that if you have the camera with all the exposure compensation settings in manual you won't see the exposure compensation setting so in this example I'm going to set my ISO to automatic same thing with my aperture automatic but I will set a fixed value for my shutter speed I'm going to set it to 1 60th of a second watch what happens when I connect the camera to the app have a look at the shutter speed you see that it shows 1 500th of a second not what I wanted remember on the camera on the top dial a fixed value I set it to 1 60th of a second yet in the app it's one five hundredth of a second the good news is it looks like I can still edit that value you see that but the problem that I had obviously is that the fixed value for my shutter speed which is very important for shooting video didn't match the app what is going on here I was going nuts with this until I figured it out there is a video setting on Fujifilm cameras that I absolutely detest a lot of people like it I am not one of those people it's located in the little camera icon right at the bottom here called movie optimized control on the xt3 it's called Movie silence control now on a default setting of the camera where you've got all the touch screen stuff enabled you can see the little icon right here you see that and if you tap it there it is right there you see that shutter speed 1 500th of a second exactly what the app was using however if I go into the camera and I turn it off and then I reconnect the camera back to the app up have a look at this there it is the correct shutter speed that matches what I put on the top dial so the bottom line with this is that the app will prioritize the settings in movie optimized mode and if you don't want that to happen then you need to turn it off just like I showed you by far the biggest surprise I discovered in using this app for video shooting is that you cannot set the frame rate the resolution the bit rate or anything else regarding the video quality in fact when you are using Live View mode with this app and you're using it to shoot video you only get 1080p 30 frames per second no 4K no 6K nothing else I was actually pretty surprised by that because even if I had my xt5 set to 4K 24 frames per second and I wanted 360 megabits per second bitrate what I got when I started shooting using Live View mode on the app was 1080p 30 frames a second at 94 megabits per second and just to be clear that is not because I transferred a video file from the camera to the app and it got compressed or reduced what I'm talking about was what I ended up with on the SD card in the camera I wanted to create this little section right here where I share with you a few of what I think are very important items to know when you're using the app tip number one and it's kind of funny but be patient when you tap upload activity and the app starts to receive the activity records it will take it a few minutes for those to appear in your timeline and activity section even if you pull to refresh constantly that will not automatically make them suddenly appear what you need to do is be patient give it a few minutes and fujifilm's Cloud servers will sync everything together back with the app on your device number two make sure that you have the correct firmware and a compatible camera do this before you even install the app or run it for the first time number three check the correct pairing destination I went over this earlier in the video but it Bears repeating if you have multiple devices connected to your camera right that the app is using you need to go into your cameras menu into Bluetooth smartphone settings and make sure you choose the correct device in this case I'll choose iPhone because that's the device I want to currently connect to the camera number four and this one also has to do with being unable to connect to the app if you have touch screen settings set to on just like this you'll notice that you have this icon right here where you can tap to autofocus if you end up say accidentally tapping the screen like that and now you have enabled it you see how it's green right there if you go to try and connect it you will see this message right here if it's set that way you will be unable in the app to get into image acquisition photography number five if you want your camera to constantly be transferring images to your app make sure that you go into your camera's menu and set Auto Image transfer order but be careful with this if you're concerned about battery life if it's not a problem for you then I also recommend that you set image transfer while power off to on with both these two settings you have really prioritized getting images off your camera and onto the app automatically behind the scenes without you having to think about it too much tip number six set Wi-Fi on the camera to 5 gigahertz as I demonstrated for you in the video earlier it will cut the time in half for the camera to transfer photos to your device next tip if you see a warning message that appears telling you that your Wi-Fi is not connected to the internet make sure that you tap keep trying Wi-Fi my next tip has to do with not being able to see photos when you go into image acquisition photography if you go in there and you tap on your SD card and no photos appear there could be two reasons for this the first is that you didn't shoot any jpegs at all and you only were shooting raw images only in that case you're out of luck and you'll have to move forward then with either shooting in jpeg or much better shooting JPEG and RAW and the second reason you may not see it and I guarantee you this will trip up a number of people if you have your camera set to shoot both JPEG and RAW and you also have your save data set up card slot settings set to separate meaning that your camera is sending your raw files to your SD card in slot one and your JPEG files to your SD card in slot 2. the problem is when you first open up the app the app defaults to slot one where your raw files are and unless you know to tap that little number two up there you will don't see them there and you'll think that they just are gone and don't exist I made a big deal about my next tip earlier on in the video but I need to mention it again you need to check if movie optimized control is either on or off before you connect your camera to live view shooting mode on the app because the app will use the settings that you made in movie optimized control mode over what you had set on the dials and that can cause a lot of confusion another tip also when you're in Live View mode is to remember that exposure compensation you know that setting that will only show if you have at least one of the dials on the camera in a for automatic except for ISO I know that's weird listen if you just tune in I'm not going to go through all this again please go back and watch the part of this video called live view shooting I now want to talk about a few issues and some suggestions for improve movement for the app as it is right now today this app will not connect to any Fujifilm camera at all unless the user is sharing their precise location information and that location sharing has been set in the app to always run in the background on the device because a number of my viewers have had significant concerns about this it begs the question why is it required for precise location information to be shared in order for this app to connect to the camera even if all the user wants to do is simply remote control their shutter or perhaps put it into Live View mode if there's an Apple or Google technical requirement for this then okay that's understandable but then the app should clearly indicate this information to the user but if it's not technically required then this app should connect to the camera and offer other features even in a limited capacity if the user does decide to keep location sharing turned off obviously geotagging wouldn't work but what about live view shooting and simply controlling your camera from the device my next main item concerns video I must recommend that future versions of the Fujifilm app allow saving of a video's original frame rate bitrate and resolution to the camera's SD card if that video was shot using the app's Live View mode as far as the app's features and future improvements are concerned I have already covered a number of suggestions already here's a few more definitely a histogram is needed for the live Shooting view it would also be nice to have the ability to select all the photos at once instead of having to tap tap tap and then transfer them over kind of like a select all another feature that I would love to see added is an AFC you know continual autofocus function in the app's Live View mode and perhaps we could have features like customizing the size of the JPEG files that are being transferred from the app to the phone heck it would even be nice to have a dark mode option for the app especially for for photographers who shoot at night indoors or in low light situations and finally let's not leave out larger screens like iPads it would be great if the app would adjust accordingly if the user rotates the device to landscape mode so overall big picture here I do think that Fujifilm gave us a great app I know that Fujifilm has made apps before but this really does feel like a brand new approach the labels and the icons are easy to see and use the overall organization and layout of the app was extremely well implemented installing the new app and connecting to it I loved how the app would guide the user through setting up Wi-Fi and Bluetooth properly I also found that the connection reliability of this app was much more reliable and that backup activity log file that I mentioned earlier that is you know stored on your SD card that was a brilliant idea I really hope that Fujifilm will take no out of user feedback and continue to improve upon this excellent app in the months to come well if you have made it this far into the video I must say thank you so much for watching I hope you found the video helpful or at least entertaining and if you did be sure to give it the like And subscribe I will see you again in a new video very soon take care okay I think we're done it is for check this out look at what time it is look at the time oh man I have worked harder on this video than in all the videos I have done in the past year combined man that's it no more app stuff I'm sick of it no more app stuff
