much it's week two of friday night rivals tonight we are live from washington high school it's the escambia gators coming over to northeast pensacola to take on the wildcats i'm christian garman along with jeff price and jeff boy it feels great out here it certainly feels like football weather it is football weather and i know you're stoked about tonight's game oh absolutely i mean the weather the way it is with everything beautiful weather after hurricane sally people are starting to recover hey couldn't be anywhere better and we're looking for something special tonight if you're a wildcat fan right it's been a while since they uh took down a scandinavian since 2011 home or away it doesn't matter this washington wildcat squad has not beat escambia in that long and remember this timeline or a little bit later last year the washington wildcats were going into escambia 8-0 and they came out with a 50-7 loss so uh revenge tonight and talked to coach wyden about that uh coach whitten from washington earlier this week he said you know christian uh we got a lot better last year but we were beating teams we were supposed to be the teams that we lost to were the really really good teams and we want to turn that corner and they have a chance to do that tonight against a very good escambia team that made it to the state championship game last year yeah really for a scambia when you talk about it this team is loaded again so i'm tell you right now this is two of the best teams in our area no doubt about it we're gonna have a lot of fun it should be a great night so let's talk about the northwest florida state keys to victory uh let's start with escambia what do they have to do to win here on the road get the ball to jojo blackman i mean two touchdowns last week one rushing one receiving and an even interception on the defensive side of the ball this young man is all over the field he's got nine division one offers from kentucky tennessee teams like that and there's a reason for that the wildcats have to be able to slow him down one of the best players if not the best in northwest florida he's going to be exciting to watch so how about for the wildcats what are their keys to victory how do they do it there's a lot of athletes on this team great d1 prospects but i'm going with the sophomore quarterback amiel steele this young man threw four touchdowns i know it was tate last last week no offense to tate but not the same style of team here they need a lot of production for their young quarterback and we'll find out if he can produce and we'll find out how days a sell-out crowd means something different than it used to they're packing it at 30 percent but the wildcats have sold the crowd out there's a nice crowd so that'll add some some nice atmosphere this really i think jeff is going to be a good game let's take a look at the starting lineups while we have a minute i can tell you uh the wildcats of course you can see here they've got chase johnson number six there on the offensive line along with khalifa sane tyler brown darius franklin connor rivkin eric smith aiden freeman deandre smiley ariel steele amiel steele and greg bullard will be running for them tonight and that of course brought to us by pete moore thank you mr moore we appreciate that starting lineup brought to you there there you can see the gators as they are getting ready to take the field washington won the toss they will receive escambia tonight their defense will hit the field in just a moment herschel jefferson tabari taylor great week last week for mr taylor now we uh get ready here it looks like jeff and uh this is not this is gonna be a great game but you and i were talking before this is not the only game in town literally some big games tonight yeah there really is a lot of rivalry games tonight navarre taking on gulf breeze the beach bowl cup pace at milton tate at phs north view to scamby academy west florida pensacola catholic i mean hey you look even crestview niceville and baker and jay are playing so a lot of great games tonight should be fun we'll bring you some scores throughout the night and we're underway looks like darian gilbert will field it at about the 15. has some room too takes it out to the 31-yard line a nice start for the wildcats and uh here comes escambia hey listen scambia last year had an incredible year made it to the state championship game did not win the state title nonetheless a great year and i know coach bennett is as he told me on the phone just last night they accept nothing but perfection they're looking to do it again this year yeah losing to miami central uh by the way that backfield was littered with nothing but four and five star athletes so hey you know what though it doesn't matter to coach bennett nothing but win win win and he expects the exact same so gonna be a lot of fun tonight though [Music] amy allen will keep it himself here [Music] that was actually so right off the bat uh sorry i just uh naturally said emil but no that was mr smiley who is a terrific offensive player for wildcats and i think he's gonna get a lot of touches tonight sometimes it looks like straight from the snap yeah absolutely and another guy to look out for is obviously to the bottom of the field right there number five you see him lined up by deandre smiley eric smith jr young man goes six four six five whatever you want to call it he is an absolute monster and a hard commit to middle tennessee state so gonna be a lot of fun to watch him on saturdays next year so right off the bat a long and long first down for the wildcats on the sneaky start [Applause] there [Applause] [Music] check that it's second down now and four this time he wants to pass and he's got a man wide open no he didn't yeah didn't pull it in there it's a good pass that's his brother by the way ariel still senior aerial steel who he threw a deep 40-yard bomb to last week and uh you know one thing that you know coach whitney has talked about this before is amy l steele does not want to disappoint his brother you love to see stuff like that so gonna be a lot of fun yeah it was cool he told me that uh when ariel uh my brother amiel threw the touchdown pass he said as soon as it left his arm he was racing downfield he said he was the first person to give his brother a hug so cool moment last week he's gonna drop back again this time he's gonna keep it he will get the long and long first down and then some still on his feet and a nice carry there for amy l steel big pickup i mean great job by the offensive line opening up the gaps there nobody look great decision by the way this is a sophomore and i know people go well you know it looks like it was wide open yeah but a lot of times guys sit back in the pocket they get anxious they want to throw the football down the field hey stay calm take what the defense gives you and how about that long and long first down yeah that's a big play on third down and they just crossed midfield this time it's a handoff to greg bullard he'll get a lot of carries tonight picks up a couple there [Applause] greg bullard had a touchdown last week against tate by the way this washington team jumped out five touchdowns in the first half against tate which was a 37 point lead there getting that running clock going this is not tape but i'll tell you what however offense so far so good moving it down second down now in about eight the 45-yard line of escambia email wants to pass right over the middle there he's got his man too and uh that's a pickup couple yards shot yeah gilbert makes the catch there looks like it'll be just shy of a first down it's gonna be third down at about two and that's what you gotta do dank and dumb gets his defense because i tell you what that's a good defense on the other side of the ball especially the linebacker positions [Applause] first down see this is what i love about coach wyden's squad these guys out here you know this remember there's a lot of guys in that 0-10 team they go 8-0 last year they play as gambi they get blown out 50 to 7. if you're telling me right now coach mike bennett didn't make a statement of that game you're fooling yourself and hard counts like that on third and short that's gimmies i mean that takes a veteran line right there to get it done leads to a long and long first down now at the 35 yard line this time they're going to hand it off again and that's a big run from mr buller who gets out to the corner and picks up about four or five there and you know you're right again coach whidden flat out said he said christian you know no disrespect he wasn't being disrespectful but he said the teams we beat last year we were supposed to beat the teams that we knew would be tall orders sure enough beat us and escambia was right at the top of the list so he wants this year to be different go that next level and we're gonna have too many men on the that's going to be the penalty on the far side of the field as an escambia player took his time getting off and look i don't know if washington noticed that and went fast but regardless it's going to be a penalty it was a free play great job regardless good catch by aiden freeman who's a junior there there that penalty is going to be declined first down how nice is it to have a microphone on the ref that is awesome great job to the friday night rivals production crew hooking that up so there you can see a lot better than down and the wildcats keep moving amiel still leading this is a sophomore again i just get excited about young players like this and big games they went looking good so far here we go pitch there and that's gonna be a big gate again gets out on the corner all the way down to the nine yard line that's aidan freeman who made a big play moments ago does it again here hey you know christian right there i don't know if you know this or not that right there is a genius play the reason i like that is typically used to you a few years ago we saw that ball pitched behind him you pitch it in front and you pitch it in front in case he does fumble it it's an incomplete pass washington on the down the field just a couple of minutes into the game 9 52 to go here in the first quarter and there's another play they did it again jeff yeah they did and uh they're gonna be looks about a yard shy a couple yard shot it was no gain right there this is where it gets tough for washington you pin this good really good defense of escambia and tight quarters like this inside the tent and this is where really good teams teams are going to make playoff runs they punch it in so hey once again this is not tape no offense to tate aggies out there this is not the same style of team interest to see if the wildcats can get it done well i'd say either team has a chance to make a statement about what to expect from them this season tonight and washington would love to make that statement it's third down now and a couple well that's a big offensive line there's a lot of big boys up front emile rolls out has nothing and that's going to bring up fourth down so see if the wildcats decide to take the field goal or go for it a really good job by the escambia defense right there not falling for play action rolling out amy l steele hoping to get his man greg bullard out there in the flats didn't happen and uh you know what even better decision by amy you ought to be able to throw that football away and you got a good kicker and kyle storniello he doesn't miss so let's find out well thanks for the jinx that's true this will be about a 25-yarder not much different than an extra point high snap handled nicely up and well that's my fault that's on you yeah he pulls it left and so escambia comes away with the stop the wildcats did nothing and what was looking really good for the wildcats turning into a great moment for a scammy now feeling great about the fact that the wildcats get nothing so now the wildcats will take over our other the uh the gators let's take a look at the starting lineups here from escambia specifically first and of course uh brought to us by pete moore and we're gonna take a look back here in just a second jojo blackman you mentioned him off the top jeff we're gonna say his name all night just a premiere player jayden milliner devante bettis jalen blackman of course that's uh jojo's brother if i'm not mistaken randy prim jr the quarterback should be fun to watch taishan key and we're uh we're up and rolling here but we've got all-star flag false start offense five-yard penalty so not the start that coach bennett wants first play from scrimmage is a false start it's going to be first and 15 instead yeah this is a and by the way so now we we get to see this washington defense guys like tabi and dale over there great great athletes all over the field that once again this is uh this is very very impressive you see the washington defense jalen lewis mason scruggs keyshawn crenshaw jordan lowry peyton daniels like i said tabi and dale playing that linebacker position even guys like darion gilbert and santonio coleman hey you know what a lot of athletes on the other side look at this look at this right here big stop there renny prim hands it off to uh bettis and bettis goes nowhere and loses a couple so not a great start look at the heating and air conditioning instant replay monte betty's a young man that is uh there's gonna be a lot of blue in your face tonight i tell you jeff i said to coach wade and i said you know what's the one thing you feel like you can count on more than anything else he said oh my defense he said hands down and it's true every year last year they pitched shutout week after week and again looking good already here second now in about 18. this time prim's going to throw along and he looking for a flag there we do get the flag oh we sure do get the flag boy oh boy i don't know i thought that was a really good acting job by jojo blackman well you know we'll find out here on the uh replay it looked like he may have gotten held up a little not sure he would have been able to catch up to that ball anyway it was way overthrown but you can give a guy like blackman the benefit of the doubt here's the call to play past interference on the defense be 15 yards from the previous spot still second down all right so it was second in about 18 that's a huge break here let's i don't know if we're gonna see i don't think so and again the ball was so overthrown i think it was gonna be uncatchable it doesn't matter though uh it's gonna be now uh much shorter it was second and fifteen and they've got it marked on the sideline there we go bows and says third down but they've changed that so it's second now in about two uh jojo blackman got a little bit of theater theater maybe maybe maybe some acting there hey hey it is it works a guy a guy at his level is going to is going to get some calls maybe boy there's just nothing doing up front right now wildcat defense said [Applause] might be a long night for devante bettis number two peyton daniels right there on the tackle along with a host of wildcats this is uh this is not what you see because remember escambia's offensive line is pretty darn good as well noah watts jayden payne guys like that uh even brennan smith brendan smith i love the story young man goes out here and he loses a little bit of weight comes out gets himself healthy and uh you know what another guy once again that'll be going or leaving a scam here soon and going to play at the next level we get a lot of that around here third and short now right at the 29 line scamby would love to convert here and keep things going another handoff right in the middle and that's going to be close he's right at it [Applause] you'll take it it's a long and long first down it's gonna be tough to get those big plays deep down field jojo blackman like i said number one at the top of the show here uh look he is the one he is the go-to he's the guy that makes everything tick uh just not sure if they're gonna i feel like they're gonna double him over the top and you you have to double a guy like that you could not allow him to get the big plays that he had against west florida last week maybe triple a guy like that there you go from the 35 the drive continues first and ten at the gators they've got trips jeff there it is trips i'm learning yeah quick pass here again going nowhere that's on the catch and he's forward progress will probably mean he loses a yard or so not 10 but man wildcat defense is pumped darian gilbert young man welcome to the party great job reading the eyes he knew what was coming right here that's a young man that watches some film and uh look holds him up welcome has the welcome party come join it here so i tell you what this is good news right here so far for this wildcat defense and again it uh it it ends up being a loss of about three so it looked worse than it was it was not the loss of 12 but but nonetheless another big play and the wildcat defense so far jeff living up to the height yeah i'll tell you what the gators have to be able to throw the football down the field or at least take a shot at some point brittany prim can throw the football that's watching some seven on seven film of them he is the real deal back there yep and can make some big plays with his feet too he's going to throw it here and shut up that's milliner again he's got some space and tackled at about the 36-yard line and it's going to be third down in about six great job breaking down making the tackle a good good pass right there get some yardage back get yourself you know a little bit manageable looks like third five third and six nonetheless but uh i tell you what the speed of that wildcat defense is what's so impressive right they're looking real good it's the bread and butter it was last year last week they pitch a shutout against tate and uh they'd love to do it again tonight they definitely take a lot of pride in that in fact i've seen here in the stands tonight the classic d with the fence so uh oh the crowd is aware that that's the specialty third down about six now trim under pressure gets rid of it just in time it's completed but it's gonna be short of the first down it's going to be fourth and about three [Applause] you know what do i say at this point it's just it's the same thing over and over again right now washington is just bringing the heat and once again man-to-man coverage is what we're seeing with these guys and washington has stood the test of time when you look at it jeremiah freeman young man uh don't believe that's derry and gilbert number 25 right there sorry about that uh but nonetheless this a lot of speed over here they are daring why or escambia to go down the field and the scammy right now is not doing it no they're punting on fourth down and three aiden freeman back at about the 20 for the wildcats and uh 4 40 to go here in the first quarter punt is just fine gonna take a great bounce but giving freeman a chance to make a move a little stiff arm action he's running out of space quickly and he enjoys the ball but quick on the draw thankfully for the wild catcher that would have gone bad quick that was a juwan stroud who's able to fall on it so the their first drive they drove it all the way down the field for the camera crew did he say something to the camera crew yeah the camera crew for washington right oh whoo i thought it was us we're good look we know where our boundaries are oh boy still gonna hand it off to my greg bullard there who's the scene you're not going anywhere though these d-lines are pretty good on both sides how about it so uh how about tabari taylor that's a young man that you'll see of a tackle number six also number 28 aquarium alvarezo hey this is uh this is a good front again a lot of big boys up front this is going to be a defensive grinding type ball game especially after the offensive outputs last week taylor had a great week last week for the scan b d looking to do it again that's caught beautiful man yes you called it eric smith with a big completion a long and long first down the chains are moving and here come the wildcats out here in midfield so this young man is obviously he's going like i said before going to middle tennessee state university as you see our pedan heating and air conditioning replay and let's look he can do everything i mean the young man six four maybe even pushing six yeah i mean the only trouble they had was they got inside the 10 there didn't get it done and missed the field goal so hey you know what moving it is not a problem here got trips for amy l far side of the field for us here but they're going to hand it off up the middle great tackle from behind though big run and how about the pancake block by mr khalifa right there you don't see it on camera yeah there you go you saw it on camera laying on top of them oh my goodness that opens up the hole for mr buller see what that boulder looks good trent farmer on the defensive tackle from behind there long and long first down again and they're gonna hand it off again up the middle this time it's not bullard that's number six for the wildcats miles murphy yeah you look at the offensive line for washington i'll tell you what alex leatherwood the young man that will be playing on sundays as he's been dying not just saturday playing on saturday playing on sundays uh mr alex leatherwood maybe you've heard of him playing for the crimson title the offensive line here this is his alma mater a few years ago this was him out there so you know he's got to like what he sees so far second down and long we've got whistles on the field it's like encroachment on the defense defense that five-yard penalty is still gonna be second down second down at about three now thanks to the encroachment hey you were quick on the encroachment call there oh typically before i mean they even snap the football that's that's about the only call you can make yeah but even still you're known for your ability to call encroachment quicker than most well i sure appreciate it look it's not a that's not a compliment it's a fact the encroachment master well okay easy easter have one all right second down and three and damiel wants to throw deep and he's going to oh [Applause] intended target was aiden freeman boy i'll tell you what though he's got an arm man he is not afraid to show it off i believe that that sure why he jumped in so third down now and uh third and two see third and two you can be able to go deep right there right trust your offensive line maybe convert this short run here wildcat and uh he's gonna convert that first down from long and long and the wildcats drive will continue now down to the 19-yard line we saw this earlier in the game deandre smiley gets into the wildcat formation at the quarterback position there for the wildcats running the wildcat how about it and we see amy l steele get back in there that's another little blip there for that offense that it's just another weapon once again this both these teams have so much speed but for the wildcats athletes all over we've seen some fun tonight from washington doing a couple of things tricky i love it first and ten now from right out the uh right at the 20 maybe the 19-yard line it's been since 2011 since they've beaten this gambia so hey pull out all the stops under two to go here in the first quarter going deep and i think wow what a catch but a great play i mean once again you got your 6-4 receiver right there eric smith jr going to play on saturdays at middle tennessee state with guys like former running back here in escambia frank pizam but how about the throw great job all the way around and that's anderson performance who brings us that touchdown what a great catch you talked about eric at the beginning of the night jeff you said we can watch for him and from p and air conditioning the replay it was a little under thrown but just a terrific play to go up and get it and pull it in touchdown city just the fact that you focus so much on being able to get your feet inbound remember in high school you just got to get one that touchdown was good on sunday as well there's story holo rivals washington has just scored up 7-0 looking to move the ball down the field they'll get their chance right off the bat here the blackman brothers are both back and this time uh that is going to be uh number seven that's jalen blackman who's got some room outside takes it back to the 30-yard line and uh jeff that's a good place to start yeah and here we go we're going to see the washington defense out here again i think for the scamby offense you're going i think watching this defense prove you're going to have to throw the ball deep at some point i mean because they're playing man-to-man tight coverage they're not they'll let you throw that short game but they're coming with gang tackle up there they have not given you any reason to believe you can't throw deep i think right now jojo blackman outside you gotta give it a shot well you know i was talking in the break and because i mean it's only been one drive it's a small sample size but washington's just all over them so i said why not just snap it literally just throw it to black and let him do his thing you know why it seems what do i know but it seems like just just try that's why right there look at the press coverage they're giving them nothing right there and they're even cutting off that little slant route as well uh-oh on the ground looks like washington has it happened let's get the official who's got it washington's got the football so a big mistake right there and the wildcats who've had no trouble moving the ball down the field at all we'll get another chance in great field position after the turnover jumping on the football mr johnny on the spot right there great job and look this is stuff where you start to put pressure on a scambia where let's be honest escambia hasn't had pressure in the regular season in quite some time they didn't have this uh same time last year playing this team as they beat a 50-7 much different team this year so here comes the wildcat offense now with terrific field positions starting off at the 26-yard line of escambia after that turnover and uh amy l steele would love to get things going quickly handoff up the middle and a ton of room and still on his feet gets the corner wow that's a huge play that's number six for washington murphy with a big run there so we're seeing greg bullard also seeing miles murphy right there here's the depth that we we're not used to seeing with this washington wildcat team how about the speed doesn't matter who they put in they are lightning quick across the board first and ten nearly first and goal but they're they're down to about the 12 yard line so it's a first and ten situation you know this game last year if you went back and watched it washington was a team that acted like they didn't belong this looks like a much different team yeah this is their time feels like they belong that's for sure again three wide outs to the right this time amyl's gonna oh no it's a wildcat that's not emil yeah deandre smiley they they fool me with that a couple times it's hard to see the numbers from up here well they're so casual with it because amyl still stays on the field typically when you're in a wildcat a lot of times a quarterback hey i'm ready to see deandre pass it a little bit too let's do it you know i mean it's not like fooling me takes takes much but uh it's been well run so a big pickup of five there now second down and five to go first down we'll be down to the two see aiden freeman come off the field and number 35 earl townsend will replace him look at that tight end position got a whistle field here is this an encroachment situation jeff oh there's a flag how about it yeah it's got gotta get some encroachments both cats that's their first oh dude second down didn't hear what he said not sure what happened oh what's the sideline warning i guess oh okay so another style we've heard a little about that i thought that was their second sideline i did too because they got the camera sure was their second washington said yeah don't say anything so email here has his brother out wide they're gonna hand it off get into the end zone but man mighty close yeah greg bullard again just a little bit of a lightning rod there great job by that offensive line again getting the push and that defensive line for escambia is no slouch say what this is where they struggled last time we got a third and short if you're washington you've got to find a way to put it in and i don't think we'll get the play off before the end of the quarter as the clock winds down you it was a rough play for the wildcats a fumbled snap should have been a big you see the heating and air conditioning replay instant replay right there you see deandre smiling in that wildcat again huh should have waited for the tv crew so with that in mind it is now fourth down and long and it looks like that's gonna lead to a field goal attempt for the wildcats and i know they're disappointed we're uh we're reporting live of course this evening from the northwest florida state sports booth and bringing you a great view from northeast pensacola quarter number two just underway washington up get rid of him he actually has a man and that's caught oh my goodness that's ariel still on the catch peyton daniels on the throw i don't i do see a flag i do see a flag yeah it's offensive pass interference and it's it's just a terrible decision so it's gonna be all that where it's a pass interference that's gonna ruin it oh man it's it's a terrible decision by the young man he man you hate this the ball was actually the defender was way too short should have taken a couple steps back he did not have to push him he did pass interference of the offense be 15 yards still so now that's really here we go he's gonna look at it i mean watch this you're gonna see it you're gonna go oh come on incredible play from peyton daniels who just got a camera view on rolled out got it off right there yeah boom you're right there no sense of it well what's really interesting is now it's fourth and very very long and possibly out of field goal range although it looks like they're going to give it a go it'll be a 42 yarder now for story olo oh man so much oh i feel bad for uh peyton daniels who threw that pass that was beautiful yeah that was an incredible play being able to buy some time ready for well and i think for your offensive line you know obviously to to run block his offensive lineman love run blocking way more than they love pass blocking just tell your offensive line full saw moments ago when uh coach bennett moved jojo to quarterback is that the sort of thing that he thought let's just see or or or might he now that's the new normal for the rest of the night i mean i liked renee prim i thought he did a good job but that spark wasn't there jojo blackman gave them the spark they needed i really think though that's an easy adjustment on the defensive side of the ball now you do make it easier on your offensive line and remember scandi's got a really good offensive line and you allow your offensive line to say look we're doing one thing and we're going to be the best at it and then offensive line first game is good enough to be able to move guys out of the way we saw that a little bit but once again if you cut off the edges for jojo blackman and keep him in that pocket i think he's a passer you'll live with him throwing the football if they want to do it yeah so i think for that uh look for the offense maybe that's the spark that i don't know you know you said it earlier he's the best player on the field get the ball in his hands however you got to at this point here we go it's a low punt it's going to take a nice roll great roll and still rolling all the way down to the six yard line with a minute 35 to go so that's just what the doctor ordered for the wildcats and that's number five that's eric smith jr of course he's already got a touchdown to renee prim i mean i think it's going to be i can't imagine it's not jojo blackman at this point i'm interested because i think prim's good i think but the thing is when you take jojo blackman away at wide receiver uh it's a significant difference now the points you made before he is also your best player prem has struggled they have double blackman they have single covered blackman and they have been able to get the football to him so you know what with this passing attack all bets are off wait i tell you what coach bennett over there once you think you got it figured out right forget it the 49-yard line their own blackman's gonna throw it long and he has a man and that is picked off big play santonio coleman huge play there as jojo blackman unleashes throws it all the way down but picked off and a great way to close things out here it says athlete or it says running back for san antonio coleman on the roster what it should say is just an absolute athlete because he plays so many positions in clayton special teams as well i mean that's just beautiful undercut the receiver a little bit under thrown and once again that's the difference jojo blackman throwing the football uh take renee prim away from the quarterback position get the ball into jojo blackman's hand and that gave them some life granted they have no points but you know it's gonna factor into the second half and before we do go to break we're going to try and talk to our coach wooden here and see how he's feeling which tommy joe from the washington wildcats as they head in we want to talk to him see i was feeling about this 13-nothing lead jeff yeah i'm willing to bet that he's uh he's look he's happy that they're up right now but he knows it should be a lot more i mean that's simply that coach whidden expects success he expects perfection much like coach bennett over there uh that's that's kind of what i feel i mean talking to him before he knows what this team how good this team is and he washington with about five minutes to go here uh left in the half you can see the wildcats just coming back on the field escambia is still tucked away deep and coach bennett trying to milk every single minute he can with his team jeff and uh talk to him about what they need to do in the second half yeah and you know what if you coach bennett the one thing is you look guys we're good enough we know we're down 13 to nothing i think he knows that look to an extent they're lucky to be down 13 i agree and so look they they made some adjustments offensively going to jojo blackman at quarterback interesting to see and that's i want to talk to him about that i want to see if that's the that's the case we're going to see randy prim come back out there i think regardless the defense for scamming well they've been shown out a little bit i think you know for washington they haven't been able to finish drives much like coach wooden said before half their right at half uh offensively that's the key you're gonna have to score some points against this team how are you gonna do it you know jojo blackman throws a pick there once again to you know a deep pass great job by santonio coleman what does this escambia team what what adjustments do they make we know that they make great adjustments they got a great coaching staff and great players over there it's 13 nothing though and this wildcat team is not the wildcat team no no no it's not going to be easy especially here uh at washington with a pretty good crowd even though it's 30 it does feel like a lot of folks almost 800 as a matter of fact we've got some highlights from the first half that we can take a look at and jeff that wildcat defense you know you know i make a statement they were doing that early and the offense was moving too here yeah i mean it's just like you look at plays like that being able to run the football now we're gonna go look at the defensive side of the ball this defense is fast they're all over the field i mean they're doing kind of what they want at this point see renee prem throwing it look that man-to-man press coverage does not allow plays like that to happen great tackling i mean it's early on the season these guys haven't played a ton of football to be honest with you here's the look at this eric smith jr 6-4 middle tennessee state commit it's the only touchdown of the night there was a beautiful pass an even better catch and then there's uh steel to steal that's brother to brother they we saw that combo a lot here came jojo blackman for escambia when he was running it did well but late in the half through a long pick and that was a drive killer for escambia and that's what got us here to uh oh look we're on camera there we are hey yeah look at that love it i can't help it if you could get out of the way i cannot help myself when i see a camera i don't like this beam is in my we need to move it can somebody come in and knock out this beam right here in the northwest what i was gonna say coach we're live jeff price and christian up in the booth here obviously down 13 nothing i tell you what making some changes on the offensive side uh what did you say to your guys at half i said i was about the worst it since i've been in scammers that i've ever seen an offense or a defense play well said so obviously jojo blackman going out there at quarterback you had renee prim as well who are we gonna see line back up i don't know yet we'll see here in a few minutes i don't you know i mean you're going to see both of them but you know what i don't know i uh i don't know what our coordinator wants to do right now but um you know we just got to play better we you know we're lucky i'll be honest with you we're lucky it's not 30 to nothing right now well i mean that's how bad we played and we just got lucky and got some you know a few things but um um you know it's we're just very very fortunate that we're only down 13 to nothing absolutely coach well i'm not going to take any more of your time i know you guys are ready to get ramped up and rolling appreciate your time appreciate it all right guys all right so there you go coach uh saying that uh it's maybe the worst offense and defense he's seen his team play since he's been in escambia that's a pretty bold statement from coach bennett but uh nonetheless he wouldn't tell us exactly who's gonna be the starting quarterback we're going to find out in just a minute here are some of the stats from the first half and you can see why they had to make a change look at the escambia total yards 47 total yards on offense and those were like late second quarters the change to jojo blackman for looking for washington this is what you love to see running the football on that good defensive front of a scandia throw in the football when they need to getting big plays timely plays timely plays as key third and long the big look even the field goal that was for not that it was almost a touchdown because of a penalty these guys have looked good but what i tell you what coach bennett made a great point these guys should be down 30 to nothing we'll see if it comes back to haunt the wildcats yeah it's going to be really interesting to see because again obviously escambia not only uh not only made it to the state finals last year but just a history and a tradition of being really really good so uh this is the sort of game that coach whidden talked about wanting to win kind of moving his team over the hump and these sorts of games jeff never come easy right you know even when you're up 13 nothing you know coach wooden knows that a scam is going to have a little more kick in them and they're going to have to work hard to close this thing out and if they do they make a statement across northwest florida tonight yeah they do and you know what coach whidden he just has that he has that nonchalant kind of attitude that you feel and the guys feed off of that but he's serious he knows how to win some football games coming over from niceville just that pedigree over there great football player himself and this is this wildcat team once again is a team that is uh they're believing in themself and how about the pantheon exactly that's wow about 30 seconds ago that's all i saw i said check out those pants that is impressive so a minute to go give or take here uh jeff i know that there are a few other games tonight we've been talking about all night long that was brett bennett by the way the offensive coordinator and and uh jeff wisely pulls up the the roster because we want to give him credit for those pants he always has great pants well oh is that right yeah he always wears the horse okay well and he's the guy who's going to make that decision as you heard coach bennett say as to whether or not we're gonna get uh prim or blackman at the quarterback position i gotta believe it's gonna be blackman if not it the whole time certainly some because it's the only success they found if not you better throw it to blackman you better find a way right but they couldn't do that in the first half i mean that was they were having a hard time doing that and they will receive the escambia gators and we're going to find out pretty quickly and speaking of jojo blackman he is back to receive this kickoff and again at this point jeff it feels like they're just trying to get the ball in his hands however possible you know his brother was the guy uh catching those kickoffs earlier they've changed that it was prim at quarterback now it's blackman that he's this premier incredible player let's get the ball in his hands which they're about to do in about five seconds there he is a little wedge blocking and he's got a huge return again some beautiful blocking there from escambia and that's just what the doctor ordered a huge return and a great field position start back at the 40-yard line all right let's find out who who is the quarterback roulette gonna be at this point that's what that's what i mentioned to see do they go back to prim do they bring somebody else in other than jojo blackman as well looks like right now we've got elijah maxwell not sure if he's going to play some receiver yeah it looks like jojo blackman's out there yeah jojo blackman's going to be our quarterback with devante betty's at the running back position so a huge play there from blackman right off the bat seven seconds in and he's got about 40 more yards to his name on the night [Applause] man-to-man across the board on the defensive side here for the wildcats another high snap we've seen that all night too blackman's gonna keep it and doesn't get much maybe picks up too that's mean right there that's a mean front i'll tell you what this defensive front for for washington is not the biggest but they are the most athletic and they are not scared to hit you there's just a different mentality boy when he cuts across the edge there you see darry gilbert once again jojo blackman he early on was getting those cuts four or five yards as soon as he stepped and put that foot in the ground there were three wildcats right in his face that time there were so second down now after a pickup of about a yard second at nine looks like blackman has moved back to the receiver position he's gonna be down here on the near side so they are gonna mix things up a little bit it looks like jeff interesting why not yeah why not grimm's back in the game it's going to go to blackman alone and he's got it and it's going to be a touchdown just like that how about that prim comes back throws the bomb to blackman touchdown and we're one minute seven seconds in and right now escami's gonna feel very very good i'm a little interested if they were gonna throw a penalty flag right there as you saw the celebration here so prim says hey let's not forget i do have there it is there it is and i tell you what jojo blackman he better be careful because one more of those and he's gone looking great job right there touchdown they send performance materials touchdown and this is why now another flag just now yeah this is this is big look you get two unsportsmanlikes like that and you're out of the game yeah so you better be careful gotta be careful all that aside mixing things up for escambia proves very successful blackman with a huge kickoff return he runs quarterback for a player two he goes back to receiver here comes prim they get the bomb cut the lead in half well that's the answer you were looking for come on at halftime i mean that's it we talked about it whether somehow some way get the ball in his hands whether it's a quarterback whether it's a wide receiver and that's what we thought we talked about earlier on in the show throw some deep fade route to him and give him a shot and boy he didn't disappoint yeah now here's a ethan yusuke who's a very talented tough setting unsportsmanlike conducts sportsmanlike number one last sportsman like number two those will offset replay the try touchdown's good touchdown's good gonna kick the extra point here for yusuke to make it 13-7 and you know jeff this is the kind of thing that if you're this is what we talked about with washington you know it's not going to come easy if you want to win a game like this if you want to make that statement you're just not going to route a scandy you're not going to do it they're going to have to earn it that kick is up and good for you and it's 13-7 well it's good check time i mean it really is so [Music] so just under a minute into it and we're going to stay right here as we kind of break things down so now all of a sudden jeff the onus has changed a little bit and for the first time all night i think washington may feel a little bit threatened because they now know okay okay this thing's not done we can't go three and out we've got to move the ball we've got a reminder scammy that we came here to play too we'll find out because here's the thing you know washington has played a little bit lackadaisical here as they moved the football but they hadn't been had that focus be able to put it in the end zone now look this is like a zero zero ball game they know they had their opportunities they got to put the pedal back on the gas here uh this is this is how you you can tell a good team to a great team you want to make a deep playoff run that's what i'm saying knows how to make a deep playoff run they've been doing it quite some time for washington here this is where people go okay are they contenders or are they pretenders here's your perfect opportunity against one of the greatest teams in the state right here for washington and once again you left so many points on the board you had an opportunity i mean this is just you had a great opportunity ahead of you now you understand uh-oh these guys can play some football and that's where this is going to be interesting i really think for washington it's put up or shut up at this point because i tell you what this game can go in escambia's favor real quick it could so it's 13-7 just like that i mean and i say you know just like that no kidding i mean 10 53 to go we're just over a minute in and now washington gonna get their chance they need to do something that's a big boot [Music] fielded right at the goal line and here's a big run and of course that's aiden freeman we've said his name all night that's another big return out to the 25-yard line that's where the wildcats will start yeah once again we go back to that offensive side for washington a lot of missed opportunities and they've shown some weaknesses in that escambia defense but once again escambia's defense has fought tooth and nail to be able to keep it to a 13-0 ball game and now it's 13-7 so interesting to see i think if you're washington look keep doing what you've been doing it's amy l steele throwing the football his work you put a lot of pressure on these guys and i tell you what going four at the top right there four wide at the top then they're gonna keep doing the same thing steal the sophomore quarterback had a very good night they're gonna run into bullard here who picks up one or two and that's been the adjustment that this uh front for escambia has made now early on the game greg board and company look it's company because it's a bunch of backs they uh they were giving up four or five yards of chunks sometimes ten i mean we saw some big time openings and we're not seeing that anymore this linebacking squad is doing a great job flowing with the offensive line making the stops pick up there of about two able in some trouble now and oh what a play that was wow throws it to greg bullard you know for a minute there jeff it looked like he was kind of giving up and i think he was playing us i think that 360 did was entirely on purpose i think somebody watched a little bit too much patrick mahomes check this out this is really something i think you realize that's something that's awesome what do you realize that i need to throw this football either away or just throw it to my man you did a great job getting it away look at that does it again and that time i think just enough for the first down that's eric smith and that's a great pass no doubt it's the only one your man can catch but even better job by eric smith jr knowing where the sticks are know where that first down is get one yard past it and lay down and catch the football so the wildcats needed that they wanted to move the chains at least once following the huge explosive strike from escambia so now it's a long and long first and ten out to the 39-yard line for washington this is going to be bullard up the middle who again picks up two or three it's a good it's good first down play right jeff you know just kind of pick up a couple get things moving that's been for really both these teams though positive yards i mean if you can get two or three on first down you'll take it at this point and now it just sets up you know second and what eight maybe seven but now you can still run your offense no panic here right three wide outs might have seen some movement there there's still who we've seen him do that a couple times oh and they're gonna call this uh oh boy i don't know they're gonna call this a touchdown saying the throw was behind the line of scrimmage and the call is a touchdown there are no reviews and just like that this game is tied 13-13 escambia now will have a chance to take a lead let's take a look right here this is uh interesting [Music] that's a bad call yeah it didn't look like he went but but again it also doesn't matter there there is no review and that's number 29 for escambia who alertly picks it up that's sean blackwell who's going to be credited for the touchdown see what the flag is and confirm this but that's that flag down at the two yard line that is a bad call that is a really bad call i i have coach wing can't believe it i'm sure here we go touchdown stands after the play dead ball sideline offense the five yard penalty on the shot well i'll tell you what this really could not be going any worse for the wildcats coming into the third quarter up 14-0 we have not yet played three minutes the game is now tied after a huge touchdown from jojo blackman on a bomb from prim and now the defensive score here's all you need to know go back and look at the replay now look where the quarterback you can kind of get an idea of where what yard he throws from and look where the pass is yeah the pass is it looks like what is that the 42 32 whatever you want to call it the quarterback's throwing from the four like that's that's to me that's just a terrible terrible call i understand it's tough being a referee sometimes but to me that's not a bang bang call i just i don't understand i'll agree it was a surprising call nonetheless that kick is up and good and how about that escambia has taken the lead and i'm sure coach whidden the wildcats and the 739 fans who are here for washington are stunned because that took almost no time and just like that 14-13 there's coach whitten yeah and he has a he had every right he has every right period to be hot right now because that just it look i'm not gonna bring i hate to bring this up saints fans know exactly about some bad calls and uh i i would want an explanation as well i that he deserves an explanation because that's just there's no reason for that it's a no-brainer i mean i i get when it's a close call you know if it's maybe a foot here or there that was not even close well you know again that's what you think on a play like that that was it didn't look that close but let's say it was let's say we got another look at it here let's see it was was within a three feet you'd think you'd err on the side of being more conservative it's going to be hard to tell yeah you can't really tell from that right there but once again it did and it doesn't really matter now i do want to point this out that's ariel still who of course is the brother of uh emil still the quarterback that is the second or third time tonight he's dropped a ball that was through right to his hands because it looks like he's kind of thinking where am i going as soon as i catch this you got to catch that thing first and if he does that none of this matters yeah and at the same time though you know amiel's got to get the ball up you know yeah on a screen like that you want it where your guy can catch it and as soon as he catches turn his head he doesn't have to bend down or anything but regardless it's a catchable ball yeah either way hey it is what it is at this point you want some adversity here you go here come the wildcats [Applause] number 25 for washington derry and gilbert on the return so now we're seeing escambia obviously come out here and now it looks like they woke up a little bit it's a shame that it happened it happened this way but you know what once again for washington you want to go out here and you want to prove that you're the best look you're going to face this sometime throughout the year there's going to be games where you're not you don't have your best you want to win in the playoffs you're going to have to go through stuff like that let me let me make this point when i was talking to coach whidden on wednesday night i said you know how good do you think your team is and he said christian we won't know until we face some adversity whether it's a bad call a bad play so exactly what he was talking about is when we get a chance to see them respond to now and he said that's when we'll know it's a nice start to the drawing here number five eric smith of course on the catch it's gonna be a first and ten as the chains will yeah that move almost a late hit right there a little surprise but hey it is what it is at this point get the ball to your playmakers and when i say playmakers i mean anybody on the offensive side of the ball these guys are as offensively balanced as there is a lot of speed everywhere but eric smith jr right there that's a name i'll tell you what you get him one on black is that right who had a big interception last week that's number six not able to find the hole of course that's miles murphy and uh they've let him run it a few times tonight he's made a few plays not able to do it there though great job by that defensive line of escambia just clogging the hole he has to balance it out and guess what by that time the cavalry showed up and great tackle of time before he got loose it's gonna be interesting to see you know blackman has played some quarterback tonight they're going to do an on-site kick out of nowhere [Music] but they do recover you know i think jeff um i love the element of surprise but he kicked it too hard that thing got down there too quickly and the wildcats didn't have a chance to cover no they did not hey you know what it is what it is you get jacked up especially as a kicker how many times do you get to do that in the game and kicking is one of the toughest things there you can see coach win man he's uh he's he's going for a little bit tonight he knows what an opportunity this is he knows people are watching well you don't do that unless you have confidence in your defense and i think there's something to be said for that and uh look randy prem back in at quarterback jojo blackman caught the big touchdown pass earlier for renny prim he gets some confidence throwing the football deep we already said watch the film on this young man he's pretty darn good had a rough first half but i think that's going to open some things up and if you're watching it on defense uh interest to see if they're going to cut looks like they're going to double jojo blackman over the top friend's going to hand it off up the middle here it's jalen blackman who takes it this time out of the backfield and picks up a couple yeah we talk about the wildcats you know weapons on offense well escambia has their own weapons and it starts with that offensive line up front and you know you got jojo blackman you got jaden milliner look they're missing a couple guys from last year's squad but once again coach bennett's done a great job getting these guys prepared uh like equal athletes across the board that's why we're here tonight this is the best game of the night second down at eight now [Music] prim's gonna keep it looking to go long makes a great play and picks up about four it'll be third down and four out of there now i tell you that you know prim did have a receiver and it looked like jaden milliner running across the middle open there didn't have time to get to him because by the time the route opened up he had two guys in his face but hey that's one thing you gotta like if you're coach bennett with your quarterback being able to get outside the pocket we got two extremely athletic quarterbacks playing for both these teams tonight yeah i uh last night i was talking to coach bennett and i asked him you know i said uh will prim uh make any plays with his feet and he literally uh here we go good to see him yeah mason scruggs coming off the field mason scrubs coach bennett literally laughed at me he's like yeah he'll he'll make some plays with his feet as if he couldn't believe i asked and sure enough we've seen that tonight hey you know what it's uh coach bennett comes off to a lot of people as cocky but hey when you've had the success he's had at the the schools he's had and you look at him taking this team to the state championship last year hey you get it i mean there's hockey and confidence how are we going to look at it after a while when you're used to it you know are you being cocky are you just kind of stating what to you as a fact i mean you know third down now right at midfield the scamby would love to keep that momentum going it looks like this time jojo blackman is back at qb which probably means he's going to keep it hey good call uh-oh he's in some trouble boy this may work out real well for him and he's gonna have the first down and then some there unless you throw the football and uh great job first gambia's defense stepping up sean blackwell makes the play there very well done and the gator is gonna get the ball back once again let's uh here we go first gambia all right you know you've had a couple of opportunities you come out here at half obviously you're down 13 nothing you know you'll be excited with the third quarter you've had so far but at the same time now washington jumps back out in front let's see him answer well to me jeff the biggest thing we've seen tonight is washington's touchdown after escambia took the lead because i think we were all thinking oh boy here we go and they answered beautifully not only have they just given up a lead on a game that didn't feel like they should be trailing at all but they had just had that call where it was a fumble and a long return for a defensive touchdown and things were not looking good they answered and it just felt like things swung again to me that's so far the moment of the night is that drive and if your coach wouldn't though you're like hey guys can we not have to face adversity to build upon the end zone i mean remember there should be 30 points on the board for the wildcats right now so it is what it is you know what that's the type of team this is so long games still got plenty of time left and clearly a penalty against escambia because they had it at the 26th it's all the way back down to 11. so that's a 15-yard penalty and that's where the drive is going to start and that is not what they need is giving up big yardage looks like uh jojo here we go let's see what penalty is sideline offense first and ten another sideline penalty we've seen that a lot tonight unacceptable yeah i mean that's a matter of for those that don't know stay behind there's a white line over there stay behind the white line simple as that jojo blackman back at quarterback now another high snap he fields it nicely gets out wide maybe gets a couple of yards maybe not even that i'll tell you you know may not matter much we haven't seen a huge play on it but we've seen a lot of bad snaps tonight whether they hit the dirt first whether they were really high we saw it again there we've seen it all night yeah washington on special teams has got to figure that out whoever their long snapper is on field goal every single time back there to kaya stormiolo look payton daniels like i said is the mvp because he has handled every one of them we've seen it for a scam b2 though again even right there as jojo had to make a make a nice play on a high snap and he's got another chance now i guess he picked up five here that's more than i thought oh you can't give him the edge and he gets the edge he gets to the 21-yard line and they need to get you about the 24 so it will be third down now in about two or three jalen lewis if he just cuts that edge off then jojo has nowhere to go but that's once again i mean it's easier said than done when you're facing a you right now if you're washington and you see number one outside you better dublin second down now and five from the 39-yard line and jojo's down here at the bottom of our screen last time jojo was down here at the bottom of the screen prim threw it deep to him he will not this time they're gonna run it up the middle and get little to nothing and that'll bring up third down and six yeah tabian that's where the wildcats will uh start the drive here with a minute to go so very late in the third quarter and jeff you know washington's feeling good but we saw how quickly escambia can change things scoring two touchdowns in under three minutes to start this quarter and you know the wildcats know they they can't relax they're a long way from pedro no i mean they are and once again they've left a lot of points on the field but hey you know what it is what it is at this point you're only up six points now scambia all they had to do was score kick a field goal or an extra point but at this point you've been able to throw the football however you want to that's where put your weapons out there let your speed go out and have a heyday i mean once again you cannot be scared you can't try to hold on to it i don't expect coach wood and i think they're going to come out firing on all cylinders yeah amyl still going to roll out he's got a man misses him since deandre smilov was the have a bad snap or a bad punt maybe a guy doesn't you know your returner doesn't return it correctly maybe you don't block it correctly and somebody sneaks through block punt there's so many things that can go wrong and it's so easy you get teams that play really good special teams their teams will be playing deep into november so you can see the situation here washington is up six so they're up a touchdown not a touchdown an extra point though which may prove to be significant with just under 13 seconds to go here looks like we could have an exciting fourth quarter jeff you've been tracking other games all night you got anything west florida's up 24 nothing wow pensacola catholic right now and west florida's a team that escambia beat last week in a very close game 24-20 and tate and phs are tied at six so that's kind of what we expected for that game it's gonna be two teams that are trying to rebuild right now in niceville blowing out crestview 56-14 some of those highlights of course maybe all of them featured tonight on prep football final and here we go not a good punt at all takes a good bounce but it'll be about the 41-yard line of washington that's where escambia starts this drive and there will be enough time for one more play in the half and uh that wasn't what they were looking for not for your wildcat cause that's real good field position for scamby to get let's talk about this for a second this is an interesting game because this is the sort of thing you see a lot a team that has been outplayed to my estimation all night and escambia has the lead and isn't that the kind of thing we see when a team that is just usually good finds a way to be in a game whereas a team that has been getting better and is trying to sort of cross over that hump has to be asking themselves how are we losing this game right now and the question is can they respond well it comes down to the fact we talked about washington looked like early on they belonged like the attitude they played with the swagger as they say they were playing with escambia was distraught they came in here just sleepwalking i mean uh washington had the foot down on the pedal and ever since then it looks like washington has kind of went back and you give credit to the the defensive adjustments and offensive adjustments they made but boy this is not the same booker t team we saw early on no no jalen lewis now back and that's a big kick that's gonna be we've seen him all night aidan freeman it's gonna be a touch back though so washington will take over at the 20. jeff they have not had a lot of trouble moving the ball i mean their offense has been effective although we talked about it all first half coach whidden talked about it when we interviewed them they don't have the points they probably should and even coach bennett said we should be down 30 and as a result they're down a point well it comes down you should have been down by 30 but you weren't you hung in this football game and that's what coach wood no matter what happens here is going to tell his team because hey when you play the good teams like you said they're going to find ways to stay in the ballgame even when it's not their best there's greg bullard looking for something finding nothing maybe maybe a yard oh do we have a fumble here now they're going to blow this one down don't think they know what's that i don't think they really know i mean look i i'm in between now i'm going to make that very clear but there's been some blatant calls that are very questionable to say the very least but uh you know what it doesn't matter it just you feel like escambia has been the beneficiary of a few questionable calls they have been and it is what it is those are facts we're talking about early in the third quarter when washington threw it out wide they ruled it a backwards pass and as a result this game he took it back and then washington had a big play they called the legal man downfield those were the two plays that were questionable that might be what i was talking about hey but here's the thing you go back and you look at it emil steele making that interception he could i mean he had a wide open man he's got to make a better decision there and he didn't so you know what you move on you still the thing is washington as far as they should be ahead they're lucky to be in this ball game with the way escambia's played in the second half and now they have an opportunity to go down and score and take the lead that's going to be a penalty i think on the scambia they did not get their player off the field we'll see if they throw the flag it's a nice play there it's like they'll just first down either way exactly a long and long first down after a terrific run and now to the 41-yard line did he get the first yeah he did they're gonna move the chains maybe the 42 yard line well here you go i mean like you said before coach wooden said i mean they can move the football but they haven't been able to put it in the end zone yep low snap well handled by emily bullard again picks up about three maybe that time took a shot to the head gets up gets rolling second down and seven with 6 53 to play boy you know eric smith jr and jojo blackman at the bottom of the screen number one first gambia number five for booker t right here those are two the two best athletes on the field and it's not even close look you got double coverage help over the top it's gonna be down in the backfield there under through it a little bit makes the catch but not able to do anything with it of that made plays with his feet running around escambia has closed it down once again great defensive adjustment high snap over his head all the way back to the end zone and still some he's he should doesn't matter here's blackman against the edge get out of bounds gets out of bounds at the uh 46 yard line when i think it was uh second or third down for escambia washington had a big stop they called it immediately so that they could get the ball back with as much time as possible then they would have had to call their final timeout but blackman went out of bounds and saved it for washington i believe you i don't remember so i believe it's not there so it happened and they're gonna go all right here we go and this may be it block them with the pick off that'll probably do it folks you gotta wonder why they're going for everything here look at blackman look at him he's literally look at him what's he doing what does washington do what is happening that was because i didn't know what to say well with a minute 13 to go looks like the scammy is going to get out of here with a win and jojo blackman with a very big play a very big pick off in the second week in a row he makes a defensive play at the end of the game might be our player of the game let me tell you what jeff i think if you had asked me five days ago who our player of the game would be i'd have told you uh i'd have bet a lot of money that it'd be mr blackman he's been impressive and jeff for the second week in a row he's made a late game interception so he's not only doing it on one side of the field and people are starting to file out too man this wildcat crowd has got to be bummed jeff this really until the last quarter even when they were trailing this felt like washington's game and this is what coach whidden wants to do is get over the hump and win these sorts of games and i'm sure he's going to be looking at that film and thinking about it all night and all week what did we do how did we blow this well and once again it comes down to the quarterback you know he's done a great job and they've lived and they died tonight by the quarterback and look emil steele's got a bright future he's just in 10th grade but at the same time making some some throw even that throw right there if you're going to throw that deep ball throw it towards the sideline where it's only your guy gets a shot at it throwing in in the middle of three different guys that works maybe in backyard football it's not going to work whenever you take on the escambia gators no once again the this is not over this is not a team do not ride off the washington wildcats this is a week two all right this is week two they're gonna be just fine listen to that point let me say also you know i'm saying what did washington do to lose this which is not fair to escambia because they had to come from behind and they surely did they did a heck of a job they were trailing 13 nothing and had almost nothing working in the first half and coach bennett clearly made some adjustments although don't forget one very significant adjustment was before halftime when they moved prim away from the quarterback position let blackman run quarterback a little bit and he got things rolling now prim moved back to the quarterback position in the second half they kind of mixed it up a little bit but that was a big change momentum-wise and looks like escambia will not have to have another play that'll do it they're going to get out of here with a win 28-20 and jeff you know the wildcats are bummed tonight they they had this one in their sights yeah they really did and for escambia like you said hats off look teams that are this good you took hats off to this coaching staff by the way going in and making some adjustments and the defense just played different guys like tabari taylor i mean these were difference makers for them now we didn't know what the heck we were gonna say they got shut out in the first half they come up and put out 28 points in the second half i mean yeah you talk about the backwards pass we can harp on stuff like that but washington had every opportunity to take it they just couldn't pull away and that's what makes escambia so great why coach bennett has been coaching for quite some time well and you know listen giving up uh putting up rather 28 points on a very good wildcat defense you know what actually let me take that back that's not the case because two of those scores were defensive touchdowns for a scammy so in actuality that washington defense gave up a couple of touchdowns not four but putting up 28 points on the wildcats in the second half is the kind of thing that you know coach wins gonna hate because they love to hold people to little to no this game uh i i think you have a point there were times there where this seemed like this was washington's game to lose and yet you guys notoriously really really good find a way to win and you come out with a win tonight well you know it's our kids i mean you know the thing about it the kids we have coming back and that you know they they know how to win i mean they just know how to win and and uh but we were very very undisciplined tonight we we did some things that we normally don't do you look the first half washington out played us they outplayed us i mean it could have been easy 30 to nothing and um you know but we hung in there and made some plays and um uh came back second half you know i just don't look man i've been i've been down a lot more than this and came back and won a football game and you know we got some breaks and um got some turnovers and you know we got back into this thing coach when you're talking to your team you're down and you're telling them hey guys look this thing isn't over i've been down more than this do you do you feel like they buy into it do you doubt whether they're really hearing that or clearly tonight they were no i you know i know my guys are here because everybody's looking at me and and i didn't have any coaches with you know i have about one of these meetings a year with no coaches i wish i could have went inside but you know if everybody could hear me i had to be real clean on it but um um you know they understood what i was talking about and you know i always prefer you know i can always go back to the game and jojo was playing in it um that we were down by to navarre and came back and beat them we were down by 20 and and won the football game and and um and i tell our guys man we're never out of anything you know our offense and you know we're potent offense we we just hadn't got on track yet but we got a we got a lot of play makers and we just got to get on track coach if you'll indulge me one more question on the note of jojo blackman the guy's incredible he ran quarterback tonight some he makes a huge play on defense at the end there with the interception and oh by the way catches a bomb for a touchdown you and i talked the other night you say christian he's special he's not like other players and we saw it again tonight he's very special um he can do a lot of things and um you know my opinion i mean he's been he's been a starter since since he's a freshman yeah i think he's the best football player in northwest florida and all the things he can do i mean he he can you know the only thing he can't do is probably play offensive line but other than that he can play so um you know y'all know he does kick too so can't we we decided but we just don't have to put him out there this year well there's still a few games left great teams find a way to win tough games and you guys did tonight coach mike bennett from escambia coach congratulations there's your trophy i appreciate it i wish my team was here but they told me we had to go to the bus so that's what we did understood out of respect for kobe thank you coach congratulations again thank you guys appreciate you having us on tonight yes sir thanks coach mike bennett he'll make sure that uh his team gets that hardware again he told us during the commercials at christian uh they told us we got to get on the bus immediately after the game and that's why he wasn't surrounded by players like he normally would have been it's a big win and remember jeff he told us at halftime he's never seen an escambia high school team play worse on offense or defense they find a way to turn that around in the second half so let's get to it now and talk about our play of the game and this was it early in the second half the pass that may not have been a backwards pass but that's when it was ruled picked up and run back for a touchdown and even though it's gambia scored just before that to me jeff that was the biggest play of the game and of course closets by design brings us this section yeah i mean cloud spy design we appreciate them by the way but this is uh controversial hey but nonetheless it swung the game so it is what it is they swung the game and now we move on to our player of the game and of course this from hill kelly now jeff this is not going to be a surprise jojo blackman does it all this was a big touchdown early on in the third quarter and that was when things really started changing for escambia he also of course had a couple of big run backs as a kickoff for turner right here was a huge play this is how the second half started and don't forget he makes a pick at the end which he did last week as well he also ran quarterback some you're seeing it here he was everywhere jeff and he was awesome offense defense special teams i'm sure i even saw him make the gatorade over there in the cooler and it was some dang fine gatorade i mean he can do it all and this young man once again is going to be playing on saturdays you know what he's got a lot of season left but it's going to be a lot of fun to watch him play for the gators no doubt about it so so there you go folks that'll do it for friday night
