[Music] save of the nations come virgin sun make here thy home [Music] none marvel earth [Music] by the spirit of our god was the word of god made flesh [Music] in the name of the father and of the son and of the holy spirit the lord be with you and with your spirit we welcome everyone to the national shrine of the divine mercy both our congregation your tiny congregation today and also our live stream audience my name is father anthony gramlich director of the national shrine of the divine mercy i'm joined here by father kaz kfalwick our provincial superior brother alex our server one of our brothers today and of course brother ken with his wonderful music accompanying us today here on stockbridge it's december 24th the day right before christmas the birth of our lord and woke up this morning and when i woke up we've had a kind of a green advent all along advent and i woke up this morning looked outside and there was whiteness there was snow all over and so i i was saying to myself maybe there was a child in this area that was praying for a white christmas and they got their wish today and so we enter into this joyful wonderful season of christmas the holiday spirit all the good that god gives to us brothers and sisters let us acknowledge our sins and so prepare ourselves to celebrate the sacred mysteries lord jesus you're almighty god and prince of peace lord have mercy lord have mercy lord jesus you are the son of god and son of mary christ have mercy christ have mercy lord jesus your word made flesh and spawn of the father lord have mercy lord have mercy may almighty god have mercy on us forgive us our sins and bring us to everlasting life amen let us pray come quickly we pray lord jesus and do not delay that those who trust in your compassion may find solace and relief in your coming who live and reign with god the father in the unity of the holy spirit one god forever and ever amen a reading from the second book of samuel when king david was settled in his palace and the lord had given him rest from his enemies on every side he said to nathan the prophet here i am living in a house of cedar while the ark of god dwells in a tent nathan answered the king go do whatever you have in mind for the lord is with you but that night the lord spoke to nathan and said go tell my servant david thus says the lord should you build me a house to dwell in it was i who took you from the pastor and from the care of the flock to be commander of my people israel i've been with you wherever you went and i have destroyed all your enemies before you and i will make you famous like the great ones of the earth i will fix a place for my people israel i will plant them so that they may dwell in their place without further disturbance neither shall the wicked continue to afflict them as they did of old since the time i first appointed judges over my people israel i will give you rest from all your enemies the lord also reveals to you that he will establish a house for you and when your time comes and you rest with your ancestors i will raise up your heir after you sprung from your loins and it will make his kingdom firm i will be a father to him and he prophesied saying blessed be the lord the god of israel for he has come to his people and set them free he has raised up for us a mighty savior born of the house of his servant david through his holy prophets he promised of all that he would save us from our enemies from the hands of all who hate us he promised to show mercy to our fathers and to remember his holy covenant this was the oath he swore to our father abraham to set us free from the hands of our enemies free to worship him without fear holy and righteous in his sight all the days of our life you my child shall be called the prophet of the most high for you will go before the lord to prepare his way to give his people knowledge of salvation by the forgiveness of their sins in the tender compassion of our god the dawn from on high shall break upon us to shine and those who dwell in darkness and the shadow of death and to guide our feet into the way of peace the gospel of the lord [Music] if you were at mass yesterday here at the shrine or if you attend it through our live through our live stream you'll notice a difference in the church from yesterday to today you'll notice that there's more decorations here there certainly as more important says we have 184 poinsettias here on the church you'll notice the hay has arrived you'll notice the christmas trees the wreaths the bows you'll notice all these different things just here on the shrine and when i was praying last night and the shrine in silence i i kind of as a rector i have an eye for everything of okay what do we still need to do and prepare as i was looking at all the decorations i said there's one thing missing with all these beautiful decorations i said there's one [Music] key thing that's missing one key element one key decoration that's missing you know what that is jesus jesus jesus is missing from the scene notice that if you look at the manger here there's an empty manger even though mary's there joseph is there the animals i was rearranging the sheep last night at like midnight making sure you could see them you know the donkey is there the shepherds are there the wise men haven't arrived yet that's that's in january so with all this decoration i still said there's something missing jesus is missing and it dawned on me that you could come to december 24th you can spend your whole advent season shopping sending out christmas cards i'm not saying we shouldn't do that i was shopping the other day i was in the hustle and bustle of new york shopping you can shop you can give gifts you can send out cards and decorate trees and have ornaments and have cookies we're like swimming in cookies right now with the marians you have all these wonderful beautiful things decorations wreaths christmas music and it's great it's great to have all that we should have all that the thing is if jesus is missing and all of that then you're not truly celebrating christmas you can celebrate christmas but if jesus is missing you're not truly celebrating christmas that's where people say i need to get the christmas spirit the way you get the christmas spirit you got to invite jesus jesus has to be central he can't be extra the the way i always see christmas it's the biggest birthday party on earth is the largest birthday party on earth when jesus wants to have a party he parties the whole world right now is preparing for this great birthday feast and it's like a party when you have a party you have decorations you have balloons you invite your friends you may have games you have a large birthday cake and suppose that you went to this party and you celebrated with friends you had music maybe you had dancing you ate wonderful food you ate cake but suppose you celebrated all that and the birthday boy never came you never had the birthday boy come to the party think about that you ate the birthday boys cake but yet you celebrate it without the birthday boy think about that that you know that is the way some people celebrate christmas they exchange gifts they sing but jesus is not there there's no manger in the house or anything and that's what it's like it's like celebrating a birthday without inviting the birthday boy you gotta have the birthday boy it's his birthday it's not my birthday it's jesus's birthday even if you wanted to you could bake a cake for jesus bake a cake for well that's a lot of candles don't burn down the house maybe put a candle for every thousand years they you know from his existence here on earth but celebrate when you have jesus in the center notice he's in the center of the manger when jesus is in the center and you put jesus in the center of the manger you put jesus in the center of your heart jesus then becomes the center of the whole worship of the celebration then everything else that we do the shopping the hustle and bustle the christmas carols you know today is national eggnog day if you like eggnog drink eggnog or however you want to celebrate it christmas wreath christmas tree ornaments lights candles however you want to celebrate in your own way in your own country and your own culture because beautiful beautiful traditions in so many countries and cultures around the world however you want to celebrate if you have jesus in the center then all of that becomes so much glorious because then you're celebrating with the birthday boy he's in the center of it all he's in the center of the celebration that is the way that you truly have the christmas spirit is when jesus is there jesus is central it's all about you jesus it's not about me it's all about you and i always wonder and and ask yourself this because this is this is how you can truly test whether you have the christmas spirit this is how you can truly test it if all of these decorations all these wonderful things that we do for christmas if everything that we do if all these traditions if they were all taken away from us see we had no poinsettias here we had no christmas tree we didn't even have a manger we didn't have lights didn't have we didn't even have enough maybe for food and all this was taken away from us all the externals was taken away from us would we still celebrate christmas would christmas still be in our hearts you know what story that is the grinch who stole crushedness you ever watch that crunchy stole christmas or the grinch takes all the externals away from the whos but it can't cannot take the internal away from the people in whoville because christmas is in their heart jesus is in their heart and even if they didn't have the externals they would still celebrate christmas on christmas day and sometimes that's why i think the poor of this world celebrate christmas like that if they don't have the external things they don't have all the decorations maybe maybe they don't even have enough for food maybe they're just living day by day maybe they're living in rags or sometimes on trash heaps and yet maybe in some mysterious way they're closer to the infant jesus because they're poor and they're humble and if they have the infant jesus then they have everything but whether you're poor or rich you have to have jesus because even if you're poor and you don't have jesus you're still poor and if you're rich and you have jesus you're really rich see that so always wonder what would what would it be like if we didn't have all of these things would we still celebrate christmas with joy would jesus still be there so the internal is the most important part of christmas what's in your heart what is in your heart right now is it jesus are there other things in your heart that do not belong there are there vices that are there that need to be cleaned are there other things that are there or is it the materialism are you anxious are you worried did you not get that present that you were looking for are you complaining and murmuring are you grouchy is jesus really there ask yourself that that's a that's a good contemplation for this december 24th in silence and if jesus is not there you can always ask the blessed mother and saint joseph put jesus into my heart put them in the center of this it doesn't matter if everything is not ready and prepared all the externals what matters is if jesus is there if jesus is there then we can truly celebrate if jesus is there in the center of your heart then everything that we do becomes a celebration so should we do the externals absolutely absolutely because if you have the internal then all of these externals all these beautiful wonderful things make the celebration so much brighter so much lighter and so much joyful keep jesus in the center of your heart in the center of the manger in your heart and then you will have a truly very merry christmas so with confident hope and the god who came to save his people we bring our needs to him for the church may god bless our efforts to build up his kingdom on earth so that all mankind be saved let us pray to the lord lord hear our prayer our prayer for world leaders may the holy spirit bless and strengthen them in their efforts to bring about peace let us pray to the lord lord hear our prayer prayer for those who deal with chronic illnesses may christ the healer bring them relief and give them the strength they need to endure let us pray to the lord r lord hear our prayer for each of us gathered here may the holy spirit help make a place in our hearts the welcome of the christ child so we may be a life for others pers and persevere to the end and bring many with us to the father's house let us pray to the lord lord hear our prayer prayer for all our for all of our beloved dead may they be reunited in glory with christ our savior and brother let us pray to the lord lord hear our prayer and our prayer for all the members of the association of marian helpers and the confraternity of the immaculate conception both living and deceased now for all the intentions they have entrusted to us as well as all those who call a right to us may the lord favorably hear their prayers and strengthen them in faith hope and love let us pray to the lord r lord hear our prayer and for all the silent intentions that we carry upon our own hearts and for all the souls in purgatory let us pray to the lord lord hear our prayer prayer heavenly father you're a king of all look with favor upon the prayers you bring before you today we ask this through your beloved son jesus christ our lord amen [Music] blessed are you our god of all creation for through [Music] me god goodness yes [Music] my son pray brothers and sisters that my sacrifice and yours may be acceptable to god the almighty father may the lord accept the sacrifice at your hands for the praise and glory of his name for our good the good of all his holy church graciously make your own o lord the offerings which we bring that partaking of them we may be cleansed of our sins and merit to stand ready with pure hearts for the coming and glory of your son who lives and reigns forever and ever amen the lord be with you r lift up your hearts we lift them up to the lord let us give thanks to the lord our god it is right and just it is truly right and just our duty and our salvation always and everywhere to give you thanks lord holy father almighty and eternal god through christ our lord for all the oracles of the prophets foretold him the virgin mother longed for him with love beyond all telling john the baptist sang of his coming and proclaimed his presence when he came it is by his gift that already we rejoice at the mystery of his nativity so that he may find us watchful in prayer and exultant in his praise and so with angels and archangels with thrones and dominions and with all the hosts and powers of heaven we sing the hymn of your glory as without and we acclaim [Music] of your glory [Music] is he who comes he who comes of the lord [Music] you are indeed holy oh lord the fount of all holiness make holy therefore these gifts you pray by sending down your spirit upon them like the dewfall so that they may become for us the body and blood of our lord jesus christ at the time he was betrayed and entered wrongly into his passion he took bread and giving thanks broke it and gave it to his disciples saying take this all of you and eat of it for this is my body which will be given up for you in a similar way when supper was ended he took the chalice once more giving thanks he gave it to his disciples saying take this all of you and drink from it for this is the chalice of my blood the blood of the new and eternal covenant which will be poured out for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins do this in memory of me [Music] the history of faith [Music] again [Music] therefore as we celebrate the memorial of his death and resurrection we offer you lord the bread of life and the chalice of salvation giving thank you you have held us worthy to be in your presence and minister to you humbly we pray that partaking of the body and blood of christ we may be gathered into one by the holy spirit remember lord your church spread throughout the world and bring her to the fullness of charity together with friends as our pope william our bishop and all the clergy remember also our brothers and sisters who have fallen asleep in the hope of the resurrection and all who have died in your mercy welcome them into the light of your face have mercy on us all we pray that we blessed virgin mary mother of god blessed joseph her spouse with the blessed apostles and with all the saints who have pleased you throughout the ages we may merit to be coheirs to eternal life and may praise and glorify you through your son jesus christ through him and with him and in him o god almighty father in the unity of the holy spirit all glory and honor is yours for ever and ever [Music] at the savior's command and formed by divine teaching we dare to say our father father who art in heaven heaven hallowed be thy name thy kingdom come come thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven give us this day our daily bread be bread and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us and delete us not into temptation but deliver us from evil deliver us lord we pray from every evil graciously grant peace in our days that by the help of your mercy we may be always free from sin and safe from all distress as we await the blessed hope and the coming of our savior jesus christ for the kingdom the power and the glory are yours now and forever lord jesus christ who said to your apostles peace i leave you my peace i give you look not on our sins but on the faith of your church graciously grant her peace and unity in accordance with your will who live sacramentally come at least spiritually into my heart i embrace you as if you are already there and unite myself holy to you never permit me to be separated from you amen let's pray the anima christi prayer soul of christ sanctify me body of christ save me blood of christ inebriate me water from the side of christ wash me passion of christ strengthen me o good jesus hear me within thy wounds hide me suffer me not to be separated friendly from the malignant enemy defend me in the hour of my death call me and bid me come to thee that with thy saints i may praise thee forever and ever amen reading from the diary of saint faustina this is paragraph 844. sister c came in the afternoon and took me home for the holy days i was happy to be reunited with the community as we were riding through the city of krakow i imagine it was the town of bethlehem as i watched all those people hurrying about i thought who is meditating today in recollection and silence on this inconceivable mystery oh pure virgin you are traveling today and so am i i feel that today's journey has its symbolism o radiant virgin purest crystal all immersed in god i offer you my spiritual life arrange everything that it may be pleasing to your son o my mother how ardently i desire that you give me the infant jesus during the midnight mass and i felt such a living presence of god in the depths of my soul that it was only by sheer will power that i restrain my joy in order not to show it outwardly what was going on in my soul let us pray grant to us who find new vigor o lord and these wondrous gifts that as we prepare to celebrate in adoration the festivities of your son's nativity so we may possess in gladness's everlasting rewards who lives and reigns forever and ever amen a few announcements as far as our upcoming christmas and new year's schedule so christmas will be we will have silent hour of adoration tonight at 11 p.m and then the midnight mass will be tonight at midnight that will not be live stream so we have some questions that would not be live stream tonight but if you're in the area and you would like to come here to stockbridge midnight mass we do have snow so the lord has given us a white christmas here if you really want to find you know like like a normal rockwell christmas because norman rockwell is from stockbridge then you can come here and visit and see the shrine of divine mercy tomorrow at the masses we will have three masses 9 a.m 10 30 a.m and 2 p.m the live stream ass will be at 9 00 a.m so that will be our only live stream mass confessions will only be at 3 30 p.m tomorrow no confessions at 1pm then next week for new year's eve and new year's day we will have 11 p.m holy hour of adoration with christmas hymns and then a new year's eve midnight mass so that will only be public here not live stream and then on january 1st new year's day we will have the 9 a.m livestream mass 10 30 ams and 2 pms and the confessions will be at their regular times on that day at 1 p.m and 3 30 p.m so if you like to join us either by visiting here if you're in the area you like to visit please come there we do have snow so the lord has provided snow for us so please come if you're not able to come then please attend through our live stream mass so at the end of this celebration i'd like to give you a special blessing and another thing i like to say is that i've been diagnosed with about four to five new illnesses this past month so it's a miracle i'm even here celebrating mass for you but god has given me the grace while father chris is away tending to his mother god is give me the grace this week to be able to celebrate mass for you so i'm praying for santa claus to put my stocking the gift of health for next year so that i can be able to celebrate mass for you here at the 9am especially the livestream mass so i don't know if you can see the gift of health i can see it in my body so please pray for that grace that the lord will give me that gift of health that way i can come back here and celebrate mass for you all the lord be with you r and with your spirit bow down for the blessing may the almighty and merciful god by whose grace you have placed your faith in the first coming of his only begotten son and yearn for his coming again sanctify you by the radiance of christ's advent and enrich you with his blessing amen amen as you run the race of this present life may he make you firm in faith joyful in hope and active in charity amen amen so that rejoicing now with devotion at the redeemers coming in the flesh you may be endowed with the rich reward of eternal life when he comes again in majesty amen amen and may the blessing of almighty god the father and the son and the holy spirit come down efforts to prevent contagion and make preparations to care for those most vulnerable assist all professionals and volunteers who work to eradicate the epidemic now spreading mere actions be marked by your steadfast love and selfless service and never by panic or fear bestow your comfort and healing to the sick sustain and strengthen them by your grace may they know your closeness as they carry the cross of illness and may all you have called from this life come to worship you eternally with all the saints as you grant consolation and peace to their mourners amen holy mary health of the sick
