French Adventures - A new life in South West France. Part One: Moving to France after Brexit.

[Music] despite being a travel journalist I've lived in the same place Jersey all my life and with my 60th approaching fast wife Maria and I decided it was time for a change a time to move on so we looked high and low for a new place to live in France and then on Facebook Maria discovered a villa on the river which we viewed online ah okay oh that's C that is the that is the entrance so I'm going to turn around and show you the house from the side of the river there it is there's a church in the evening everything is beautifully lit it looked too good to be true and it was a third of the price of our house in Jersey so selling up meant I could retire so we quickly headed to V Nerf salot a little town nearby in Southwest France to take a closer look from the river and there it was in real [Music] life so we met the owners and had The Grand Tour but could we leave our idilic life in Jersey home to our children and Friends many of which I've known most of my [Applause] life this surprise party will give you a clue yes we were heading to a new life in France y we had been spoiled with an amazing view of the sea actually we both loved the sea how will we adapt to river life with the final boxes packed into the van the reality really hit home so that's it empty house time to close the door boarding the ferry exciting you excited stop being so BBC are you excited yes I'm excited also in the car for our short Ferry trip to St Marlo was our dog Dylan don't worry you'll meet him soon time Jersey time 9:00 Jersey time and guess what the temperature here is look you can't but anyways 15° 15° and we're heading to the sunshine so it's the 3rd of October and it's 27° down here just a 4 and 1/2 5 hour drive from where we were this morning it's incredible the further south you go just how warm it gets what an extended winter they get down here and that believe me was one of the driving factors to move further south through the gates it's time to meet Dylan we've been here 5 minutes and Dylan has already been in the pool he's freak I can't believe we missed that [Music] shot you didn't get that I [Music] know oh god look we haven't even taken the cover off and he's already been in dog for sale go and [Music] cheap as the transfer from one home to another continues I'll leave Maria to give you the grand tour please excuse the dirty lens that's Ricardo are you lying no I'm just recording there's the dog don't if you can see that my lens is a bit dirty that's the river this is our room at the moment we haven't decided whe we're going to stay in this room on there's a bathroom H bathroom bedroom there bathroom show room bedroom back through here you following me think it's going to be Ron's office on a spare bedroom yeah is locked but that's it in there it's got a bathroom as well everyone should have an elephant in the room he is unbelievably heavy but these guys seem to make light work of carrying him to his new home Sri Lanka Jersey France people fishing oh she's off again so so good it's all good we're not regretting it so far well if Maria's happy I'm happy and thankfully it wasn't too long before our not so little children came out to pay us a visit as we cracked on with our new adventures in France and believe me it's a learning curve I discover how quick bamboo grows they grow so fast you can almost watch them grow and we both discover the joy of the French night markets and festivals as we make new friends Maria makes something with Plums I was going to make plum jelly but I haven't got any pecting and I was too eager to make it whilst I pick apples to make my first Brew of cider Maria cracks on with duo lingo and I have a n problem the big rush is to get to these before the squirrel does all this and so much more coming soon on a small screen near you [Music]
