Free Throws: How Hard Can It Be?

all right two hands Elena Delle Donne the star of the WNBA Chicago Sky won the MVP awards of here she also shoots free-throws better than any man or woman in professional basketball delle donne had 95% of her free-throws during the 2015 season something a few players have ever done her career free-throw percentage of the two seasons in the WNBA is 93.9% we wanted to know what's the key to shooting a great free-throw and could we do anything to make delle donne miss we met up with her at the equinox Sports Club on Manhattan's Upper East Side to find out you know it really started in eighth grade when my coach changed my shot I thought I was a good foul shooter before that and would practice it you know every time I was in the gym and needed a rest my rest was foul shots instead of sitting down so that's when I would practice it the most you know you'll see little kids who are out by the three-point line like launching it that was never me I practiced it every single day and really got it down so how many components are there to your shot if you keeping it simple so all's I do is I get up to the line I find the dot and my routine is I take three dribbles and I get to a 90 degree angle and from there I just lift and flick and then a little bit of ankle pop no jumping no add on looked like she might not miss four hours so we decided to rattle a whistle did nothing she wasn't the least bit phase by a vuvuzela one of the noisemakers fan Jews during soccer game that's what's funny finally we've got her to miss badly when we put a blindfold on it that didn't last long though that was good I asked della don to teach me her free-throw technique I played basketball in junior high school and I'm basically awful it was tough going but finally something clicked when she told me about the mental trick she uses when she steps to the line tell yourself you're gonna make it there it is turns out the best free-throw shooter in basketball has another skill she's an amazing coach
