let's just double-check to see if the switch and the battery are working we have a busy day planned today we're going to make Popkin heaters for this window over there but first I am going to make popcorn with chickens [Music] it's actually quite warm out today I think it's about plus eight taller snow is melting but don't you worry we're getting a blizzard tonight so that won't last long [Music] and in nor Popkin heater which is slightly different construction than you would for an outdoor we found this cabinet the restore which is a great depth for popkins and we'll be using that as well as another window that we found at the restore we've been saving up our pop cans we have paint here that is heat proof - it's black paint the pop cans with some stuff to seal it to drill holes we have a 1 by 4 piece of wood or the shelves and we might be making a chalkboard on the back so we have ingredients that we need to make that as well we have grout and we have black paint [Music] in order to make it snug for the cans I added a couple wood pieces here to make it snug along with add two pieces of styrofoam so that should make there's like zero movement this way the next step I need to do is put holes in the bottom for air flow to go through and first I'm going to mark on the top the middle of each can we measured the depth of I can't from the top draw a line here that guide me basically so nowhere [Music] [Music] so we drilled the holes for the bottom now when you drill the holes for the shelfs I put a little mark here to show this is the bottom of the shelf I'm just going to put it underneath and then mark my holes [Music] now we have to cut the hole for the fan we have this computer fan that we're going to run off of a 12 volt battery and a solar panel I'm just gonna trace this on the back here so I know approximately where to cut [Music] this is a good stage to line your cans back in here to see if they're tight so these are pretty tight you can see but what I found was was actually longer on this side so I had an extra little board the next stage will be to seal the cans together so that there's no air seeping out [Music] so I vacuumed out all of the dust we've got an extra hole here for the switch for the fan and holes for the fan and now I'm going to paint the whole thing with this barbecue paint in order to collect the heat [Music] [Music] you'll be running a pop-can heater off of a simple 12-volt system we've used a solar panel before this size too with a fan this size to run a puck in here before so we know it works this solar panel on its own should run the fan when it's in direct sunlight however the Popkin heater will also work in partial Sun where this might not get enough juice to run this fan so that's why we have this 12 volt battery as well so we'll connect both the fan and the solar panel to the 12-volt battery which will run the system I'll just give you a little sneak peak here so these will be connected here those will be connected as well and then we've also added a switch which will allow us to control whether or not we want the fan to work the fan is good for the Popkin system because one it distributes heat into the house and two if the system gets too hot running the fan will make the air go through it faster we won't get as hot and we don't have a risk of fire so we've attached the fan the wiring comes into the switch which we can use it's on the back this goes out to the top to go to the solar panel and the battery I don't have the proper stuff here right now to tidy this up so I'll have to do that later I've started with the weather stripping we'll be putting the weather stripping all around the edges for a proper airtight seal I have two different sizes of weather stripping we have a thicker one and a smaller one I had around the house I am going to use this thicker one on the outside and then the thinner ones on the top and the bottom in in the middle here [Music] now for the window this window has a lip on the one side which I'll use to drill in to attach it to to the box and then on the other side so I'll use L brackets in the position that that's tightly on there I have a drill here with the metal drill bit and I am going to drill three times for a secure hole so I have my I have my assistant here to put pressure in the top to create a good seal on this side there is no lip so I am going to use L brackets to them one on the top one on the bottom to let it down I'm just gonna be screwing it into the wood box not the window frame we now have a functioning solar pop cam heater there's a few finishing touches to put on it and we'll hang it in a window in the house and Donna will do an update video on a sunny day where we could we'll show you just how much heat is produced by it let's just double check to see if the switch and the battery are working it's like we're good to go [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music]
