FREE Distressor Style Compressor - Kiive Audio XTMax

this is a very easy to ous free compressor plugin that's modeled after the very popular distressor Hardware compressor now keev audio recently announced the release of XT Max which is this plugin that we're going to be looking at and is it really a new Plug-In or have they released it already and more importantly how does it sound well let's find out I'm Zane welcome to audiotech TV where I know you can create great music at home and having a free compressor plugin like this might help you do that so first off let's give it a quick [Music] listen as you just heard XT Max is a very aggressive compressor plugin and that's because it's a distressor that's always in Nuke mode which is at about a 20 to1 ratio which is pretty much a limiter at that point but haven't we already seen a free distressor plugin that's always in Nuke mode from ke audio something very similar to this and the answer is yes we have I think it was last year or maybe late 2022 they released the exess nuke and this is basically that plugin but they've added some goodies and we'll get into that and it kind of appears like maybe they got into some legal trouble with the other one so what have they added with this new version here so you still have your input which is going to adjust how much gain reduction you do so the more you push it the more gain reduction that gets done or the more you're crushing your audio the output is just adjusting the out put so you can do some gain matching and then you have your release which is the same on the other one you had your slow fast normal release settings so you could just push that and change it however you wanted but on this one you still have that so you have your fast medium slow now also you have an attack setting that you can change and this makes it a much more versatile plugin because we can set it to the medium which is pretty much standard it sounds all right but now we can also go to fast and we're going to start to cut off some of that transient and we're really going to crush the audio [Music] now or we can also go to slow and really allow a lot of the signal to pass through and just catch the very tail end of [Music] it so I think with just this added setting that only has three little settings in it it makes this so much more versatile you can do a lot more with it now and also they've added on here this knee control and on the I'm pretty sure on the hardware distressor they don't have a knee control that's actually controlled by changing the ratio and then the each ratio I think has a different knee setting so this I think might be just added on there as some sort of legal compliance to say hey this isn't a distressor because you can manually control the knee it's kind of cool to have that on there you can play around with it see if it helps in whatever situ ation you decide to use it in and this has changed locations in the other version you had your side chain filter up here in the menu bar and now it's more obvious down here I kind of like it here better so you can add some of that so the kick drum isn't going to trigger as much of the compressor and you're just going to be maybe compressing the snare and other things down and then if you're just completely new to this plugin we also have an auto game feature here so let me just reset these and if we turn on auto gain and then when we move this it's going to automatically adjust the output so that's kind of neat it might save you some time if it's going to do a good job at matching the output let's just kind of give that a try right [Music] now [Music] and another setting on here that might not get as much love as these other settings is the mix control because this is a very aggressive compressor so we can adjust it to be very aggressive we'll do that right now so that's pretty aggressive there but if we start to dial back the mix a [Music] bit we can kind of tame our drum sound down a little bit and we have some of the compressor on there but not Full Tilt it is pretty cool then also you have oversampling in here up to 16 times on their website they're really pushing the idea of using this on your drum bus and if you want some free acoustic drums to go along with this click the video on the screen there's lots of good stuff in there and if you liked this video please give it a thumbs up also subscribe to the channel for more videos like this thank you so much for watching for audiotech TV I'm Zane keep creating fist bump thumbs up
