hey guys I'm Jerry Mitchell Ark and I got too much stuff here I got to give it away we started off with over ten thousand five hundred dollars with the prizes to give away I still have to the jm9 30-miles bergens with the Nordic component extensions and hive is front sights also have two more J M vortex razor 1 by 6 telescopic sights and also have two vortex red dot sighting systems to give away so what you need to do guys you need to subscribe and like and comment on our videos to be a part of the the price program so what I have for you today is a spas-12 semi automatic pump action shotgun so when we leave out of here we're going to get out on the range and we're going to give this thing a run but we're going to do something a little bit different I'm gonna have my son-in-law Brock come with me and participate in the shooting and the the filming of this video he's the one that does all the all the camera work anyway so this time he's going to be on the front of the lens instead of behind the lens so we're going to take his files out we're gonna have Brock there we're gonna run some drills and we're going to see just what this thing will do designed from the ground up in 1972 by Fran she has a rugged military shotgun it was actually produced of 1979 up into 2000 the special-purpose automatic shotgun works best 12 was extremely popular in mass media for appearances in movies such as Jurassic Park The Terminator and almost every video game in existence this shotgun features a dual mode which means it can function as a pump or semi-automatic shotgun just by depressing a button on the forearm it has a collapsible stock a removable carrying handle a magazine cutoff and the boat release also functions as a loading button you cannot load into the magazine unless you depress the bolt release the shotgun was imported to the US from 1982 to 1989 from F ie and again from 1990 to 94 now with the fixed stock and mag tube restrictions from American Arms remarketed as the sporting purpose automatic shotgun this shotgun platform suffered from little sales the law enforcement as it was considered unaffordable and hard to maintain it was also eventually killed in the civilian market due to the 94 assault weapons ban despite its popularity in mass media it is estimated that only 5% are 1,850 units exist in the United States today hey guys we're out on the range we got our spas-12 here semi-automatic shotgun I got my son-in-law Brock we're going to give us some range time and actually see what this thing will do and in the reality moment here so what do you think Brock you want to give it a run uh yeah I mean I've been this is my shotgun as you know I've been one the shotgun since I was a little kid and I saw Jurassic Park so I was pretty excited to find one that was in good condition and pick it up but why don't we give it a run and see what I can actually do okay I do have to say it's probably one of the most famous movie shotgun so movies are not really reality so now they are and I make a living in the real world so let's go ahead and just do three shots one on each left or right Steven you load this thing up here we got it on safe I got my timer set on delay Brock so I'm just going to on a timer come up and give them all a little bit of a little bit of attention here all right let's do it here we go left the right okay then that one bad we aren't safe we empty they kick like a mule man yeah was that stock I can imagine we had I was a twenty three split the whole thing was a 109 wit with with reaction time so that bear I consider 65 first shot that's set to steel up and I'll let you given it all right let's do it yeah that one too bad you know I'm not gonna be able to do anything nearly as good but I was I was a 109 with everything with the reaction time into three shots mm-hmm I think kicked like a mule that dropping that stock well you shoot it it watch the recoil almost the whole plate Oh with the target well semi-automatic it won't actually cycle with lighter ammunition and I know that one of the things I see with it you got to shoot almost full power stuff to get it to work the bolts pretty heavy and that the wick and you can feel it whenever you're holding out I had a little bit experience on the range just before yeah shooting it so uh what I like about it is the soft rubber recoil pad here you know this metal on metal is really nice I was just thinking uh what recoil pad are you talking about I know you want to give it a you want to you know okay let's see what happens do the same drill I'll run you on a timer here so get your ears on all right I started with the safety off aim at the bottom of the targets all right that all right we'll do the same thing here trying to get safety up shooter ready stand by wow I was a 1.6 some of the Mossberg I was expecting just to one point six foot total time what the difference between movies at actual reality is this stock has so much drop in it when you shoot the gun wants to whip you saw how much it whipped up over the target yeah well what's interesting is in when you see it in the movies they don't ever actually even use it where they're madly mad and that's not yeah they just I mean there's no sight it has a little ghost string here and it kind of clips into it but you can't always see it like this it's a really trick looking piece of hardware till you actually fire it you really want more but anyway that was uh that was kind of cool you want to see how fast it'll run all right so we have four rounds loaded up we're gonna kind of I'm gonna go first and just see what I might be able to do with it before an expert and professional actually does so this is something you would kind of expect if you were to buy the shotgun yep so let's get started see what I'm I read you got four rounds in it yep that's ready to go all right pick you out a set of target and see if you can see if you get forward a second let's do target on the left all right you ready to do it yep shooter ready stand by well that was a 72 first shot in a 136 so you were just was pushing me to the right quite a bit yeah I did it talked around pretty good you were average in the 22 or 20 or 22 so he's averaging about 2,100 splits so yeah you made it pretty easy okay in a second you know for the first shot yeah so they're gonna beat you to death pretty good it raced off to the right so I twisted him off that drop in the stock guys is really annoying when you try to shoot fast mm-hmm so it looks like yeah let's look do you want to just do four or do you want to try six no four I thought the phone I wanted right let's load it up and we'll see what we can do all right you know what Brock you had a pretty good run he had four shots in under a second that wasn't too bad I mean they weren't all on target but not bad not bad not bad so what do you think we'll try something different yeah you know I just had a thought and between takes here and I hate to spring this on you but if you let me just see the shotgun real quick I'm going to show you something so this is a tactical shot oh yeah it's it's extremely tactical so if you're so tactically inclined okay and an operator scenario you could push this little hook in that normally serves as a carry handle twist it around here oh and guess what you can shoot it one-handed ah so to make it a little harder I was thinking maybe you could try to shoot it one-handed maybe faster than I can what do you think let me just try this looks like it this could be pretty brutal I'll have to imagine there might be a raptor or something charging so let's see if we can shoot that target in the middle there Brock four times Raptors f1 rocket arrow let's see what we can do one hey let's try it one hand woo here we go on a timer ah hmm induced a malfunction huh yeah that was a twenty five split it's not as tactical as we had hoped in that case yeah what happened there that's a good point there guys you know when you when you have a semi-automatic firearm II do have to back it up a little bit still not having it on the shoulder mm-hmm it short stroke it really quick so it was cool but it really wasn't tactical never to fight something else to do with it what do you think let's do it okay all right we got the shotgun loaded up we're gonna try a pump I'm gonna do it the boring traditional way Jerry on the other hand that's gonna be tactical you know I'm gonna hip shoot it yep yeah from the hip rocks going from the shoulder three rounds let's make it happen on destroy from the time our safety off here we go target on the wash you ready target on the Left shoot already stand by that was actually one 1.10 so a little over one into ten seconds you know this thing this beats the absolute crap out of here to put this seal stock here ah hi let me have that thing let me shoot it like a man let's do it like a manly man let's put some ammo of this thing Oh what are you doing you got to fold it all the way up what that button there oh you don't use this ice anyway ah how's doctor here is that all right safety on hit the hit the button close it up push the button load it up this thing has got more buttons it's got its got a buttons let's see what we can do here I'm sorry in the middle target in the middle all right ah that was a whole lot more sporting well that wasn't too bad it was actually a bunch slower those that I was about a 1.3 years exactly 1.3 so I was a little bit slower but it looked a whole lot cooler that was from the hip you know whatever this thing is uh you know for being so cool-looking and I've wanted this gun since I was a kid you know I've loved Jurassic Park The Terminator is I I'm starting to wonder if the people who actually designed it actually have shot a gun before Oh what happens is when you try to make something into something that does multiple things some things kind of get blended in then you really have it's cool-looking no rock I do have to say I'm glad it's yours and what Fox up else to do with it hold on one sec okay so an interesting thing about this gun too if you want to listen I'm doing so drop the ball real quick yeah a steady pump mode that's okay so it has a magazine cutoff here yep so you don't have to shoot all your ammo up if you want to change it to something like less lethal or whatever okay you can just hit the tip that I got it back so I get up I can hit the lever here open the boat or shoot it out or whatever you want and put up you know beanbag or whatever you want something like slug doesn't matter but it's supposed to be for up like a police military use so we're going to test that out with some I have a rubber bullet guys it's a less lethal 12-gauge rubber bullet and I'm gonna stand back about eight ten feet from those two-liter bottles and Brock here has got to run the high-speed camera so he's got his tablet here and a high-speed camera set up so when I go back to my shooting position Brock is going to get out of frame he's going to trip it and I'm going to make the shot and we're going to see what this 12-gauge less-lethal round does to our test medium of the standard two litre die coke so support man's bought six trillion let's diet which what can you say so good to shoot so let's go ahead and do it Brock what was that dealer oil sir though we're ready to go all right Rock what I'm gonna do is go off the timer here you ready yeah I'm ready when you are okay not too lethal that less lethal is relatively low velocity of course it's softer it's made to be less lethal and you can see where it impacted the two-liter bottle here it hit it just about just about Center and it spun off to the right a little bit the bottle took a lot of the impact kind of deflected it that's what it's made to do is major to strike and not actually terminate the problem but make it a lot painful so I was actually kind of surprised I figured it would probably go through that plastic but it actually absorbed it pretty good so I had a thought though what you thought why don't we shoot an actual slug and compare the two just to give a contrast you know what I mean so I happen to I just happen to have a high-velocity one-out slug here do it about 1,500 feet a second it's a 1 ounce piece of lead we got our trusty test mediums here I will step back to a safe distance and I know you're going to get out of frame in just a second all right I'll go trigger the camera he's going to trigger the camera I'm gonna trigger the gun and let's see how they survived here all right yeah let's do it make it happen all right you ready everybody clear I near ready when you are you ready that brock yep here we go clear ha ha that's a little bit more lethal let's take a look at it guys yeah yeah that was quite a bit different that's a so which one do we have we have this green run yeah you can see yeah I don't think we had much expansion and it's in the second bottle but you can see a pretty pretty dramatic effect of announcer LED at 1,500 feet a second is a little bit harder than a piece of plastic doing about 800 so there you have it guys less less lethal and and the real stuff so I don't know about you but I probably won't want to be front of I don't wanna way around that so let's go let's go find some fun stuff all right ok so we came up with this idea of obviously everybody out there is gonna be biased one way or another right you have to be this part is part again exactly so what we're gonna do is we set up a standard stage our top men have been working on it right top man has an you and I pretty much yeah and Lina but we've set this up as a standard so that Jerry can shoot through with every gun and you can see what time and he could shoot through it as many times as he wants but we're going to average those times together right yeah so can you kind of go through what we were kind of thinking we wanted to incorporate a reload and summon uver ability and things like that what we're going to try to do here is have we're going to first target is going to be actually how well the firearm points and we're going to shoot it with our eyes close that up right off the clock we will shoot this sees own on our left here or so it did from there or we will go to the right we've got five down for knockdown steel targets there'll be a total of five rounds only in the shotgun so have a lock boat I'm having an empty gun and from there I'll have to load it so we're going to try to check just how easy to fire on this the load so we shoot these five targets and we start going downrange and this is going to be a probably a pretty critical part got to try to load it so we have an open boat we got to do something with that we got to load full rounds we got four more targets we kind of set up some crimps based here the idea of this is to see how poor how much portability it is like it here in a room or sometimes it's a big platform that's if it's a tiny platform how are we going to handle it so we come into our little hallway here we've got a window we've got a steel target to engage and then we're going to we're going to go left right right left so we're going to start the right go to the left we've got another another steel target here to engage on the left and then we're going to continue on another one on the right and you can see that they're happening pretty quick there's a lot of target stacking up here really quick and we come around the wall we've got our last target so from there after that shot again the boat is going to be locked back now we have a we have a barricade so when we come to the barricade here the final shot will be a sea zone in the back here and it's going to be engaged with the slug and you got to load it manually and we got the loaded manually so there's a lot of there's a lot of gun handling going on some dexterity on how well the platform can conform to the shooter how fast you can load it engage different targets so we try to ever take point ability load ability how compact it is how fast we can handle it and we're going to try to make it all in one run and we're going to shoot several runs and then do an average so this is all about averages it's all about how fast you can repeat it and how well you can interact with the platform so so this past 12 is intended to be used semi-automatic mainly right so we're just going to go ahead and do that as default so we'll shoot in semi-automatic mode so we're going to have a boat lock twice and two different ammunition so it ought to be fun good luck loading it with that button let's make it happen haha whoo a tactical slug there guys did to work the action but I got to hit on the target ah that's a whole lot of work for a little bit of shooting so I had to go with the two to dry chambers there and that's a lot of work but try that again okay just got back from the range had a lot of fun with the gun sorta yeah I can remember I can remember back in the day when I could actually buy these on the shelf I remember looking at them and and wondering why I would want to buy one then what kind of an interesting piece but this is actually the first time I've had a chance to take one out on the range and I can't remember what year this was that I saw him on the gun shelf when what were these things actually brought into this into the country I think they were first imported in 1982 and then up until 1990 I think F ie imported them which is actually this is one of the ones okay it was first imported and then around then they changed a bunch of the they changed the name they changed some of the characteristics about it basically what they did is instead of special-purpose automatic shotgun it was renamed to sporting purpose automatic shotgun for political correctness same day different gun yeah it's nothing really changed about it except for they put a fixed stock on it okay I think they put I'm not sure if they change the magazine length or if they put you know a stopper in it or something like that or what but yeah those were it's still imported another company imported I forget the name after 1990 and then after that 94 salt weapons ban okay yeah that was it so yeah so they only actually imported about 5% of the total manufactured by Franchi really into the US okay and I think they estimated about eighteen hundred and fifty of them are in existence in the United States so another interesting thing they changed was back in the early 90s this is the trigger group out of a law 12 which is the semi-auto variant semi-auto home day somato only yeah okay so it has a little lever safety right here okay yep I can't really engage it you know not being in the gun but anyways the device why I built why to go to a lever instead of the push button like this one well what they found out about the lever was I think when it was when he disengaged it it actually tripped the hammer I was trying to see if I could demonstrate that I would actually true Oh their button no no the lever would trip the hammer and it would it could involuntarily fire which that's a that's it it that's a pretty no it's not safe maybe it was a feature we don't know I mean it's got all kinds of features yeah just in case for tactical reasons but anyways the push button I changed the trigger group on this one because it originally came with a lever just like that this is a push blood and safety I think they still had some issues with the push button it's kind of similar to what it Bonelli's is it's just further up on the trigger guard here well I'd like to share with you a little bit of my experience they are shooting on the range my shots talk about that I shot that staged a fire looking at the gun it looks pretty racy looks pretty tricky it's the only shotgun I have a shot it would stand up by itself I mean there it is okay so you give it three points for that but actually when you when you're shooting it there's so much drop in the stock mm-hm it's really hard to do any cheek weld and one thing about a shotgun it has to be an instinctively an instinctively fired platform so when you mount it to your cheek it has to look where your eyes looking this doesn't look what I'm looking at all no yeah well definitely for me to I mean I don't want to make excuses of course but I have to adjust a lot of the mas purrs and vanilla teas and stuff that I have for my body type and this was no exception but you can't actually adjust it so we were shoot to heavy loads that make it function you can see how small the buttstock is here it's all soft metal so when you shoot it all the softness of this metal helps with the recoil mm-hmm and it's pretty apparent we shooting three three two quarter gram ounce of the quarter ammo that you're shooting a steel buttstock but it's made for it's made for hard use so I can go with that one of the things I didn't like was how high the sights are off the stock we kind of mentioned that earlier yeah the ghost ring sights are kind of a this is looser for a shotgun yeah but I can see the the way the handguard is made you had to do so fit here to actually get a sight picture mm-hmm but they could have did something here with the stock I know everything's a cop my to make a package but the sighting system in the stock to me is what makes a shotgun actually instinctively fast to shoot and it doesn't have either those but it looks really nice sitting there you've got a Bentley I does and it's then lay the handguard skeletonized stock it looks pretty racy it stands up by itself it's a pump and a semi automatic so usually when you get something like that together that's going to be a bit of a compromise and what I'd like to show you guys what really was a downer for me as a speed shooter we shoot a lot of three gun is how to get the shotgun loaded and in that stage of fire I had to actually load four rounds when I was moving in position that was part of the course in the fire we wanted to see and we got a chamber flag in it so I'm going to go ahead and pull the flag out and show you something here which is really interesting if you want to load a round of ammo the lifter the elevator has to be deactivated with this push button here so every time you load around which is also the bolt release yes yeah so you have to reach around here and push the bolt release to what you can get around so the elevator would retract so you can get around with ammo in it when I first got this gun I bought actually bought this one it took me probably like two hours to figure out how to actually load it it's like watching videos because I was just like okay well do you have to disengage the safety or do you what do you have to do because it's kind of weird you can't actually pull the bolt back without running this little lever yeah head around or chamber Safety's on can't pull the boat back until I reach here and depress this lever to the rear now I can retract the boat so every time you want to do something here you have to have like three hands and it doesn't equate for speed because speed is usually you want to know want to have both hands productive when you have your hands tied up like this just trying to get ammo in it it's kind of a all the features look good on paper you know I'm sure it would take a bit of a bit of time and some training more than I had with it to make it relatively fast another interesting thing about about it as you can actually it doesn't have a normal choke so I saw that you got to actually take this off and then they sell I think somebody still actually makes a aftermarket choke adapter which is just this big tube that comes off the end yeah and you can put a standard you know I'm not sure what chokes it will accept but you have to actually have that adapter they made them back in the 90s and I think late 80s but nowadays you have to actually get something a little more custom in a way or people who only who love this past twelve make aftermarket parts like that another issue I think was the it has a little buffer stop back in here yep yep and those were known to fail this one has a replacement and you can buy those aftermarket as well so they came in a bunch of different configurations as far as a safety stock way the stock locks to the guitar to the receiver of the gun and even the front sight their magazine two blanks this was the standard one they imported but this is also the same model seen in Jurassic Park I'm not sure what they use them those got to be good yeah exactly movies it's got a lot of cool features when you look at it it's got so many things going on at one time it looks pretty racy but when you get it out on the range to actually race it you start to see that it kind of compromises the overall performance and how fast you can shoot it so but you have to give it a 10 on looks yeah I want to I'm definitely you know I've wanted this forever I'm going to keep it for sure but I gotta say it's a loser of a gun it's a piece of crap it really is if you love the gun the way it looks you love the movies or whatever it's in by all means buy it but if you want to actually use it I I just don't recommend it at all on top of that the front of the I'm not sure if that's just age or what but the front of the pistol grip here was like falling out when we were shooting it yep I'm glad as you wish yeah I don't blame me it's a different gun it's something fun get out of the range it's got a cool feature but I have an interesting factoid for you and that is so the one they used in Jurassic Park that the park ranger robert muldoon used yeah Steven Spielberg actually has it in his personal gun collection signed by the cast so there you have it Raptors to the to the so we don't have any rappers in Louisiana cyber they don't have a need for it I'm just what can I say I'm glad it's us yep I don't blame it so what do you think your time was I don't really know it took a lot of time to actually do all the things you have to do they get loaded I was disappointed in how slow it is to load I've been shooting three gun for a long time and that's by far the hardest thing I've ever had to put ammunition in so I don't know it was all that good what was it well this is our first time we've done for as far as shotguns go and actually ever we're gonna have a new system here we put it out this might not be this might just be temporary but every gun that we run through that stage we're going to put it up here and put it in order of least the greatest time okay so the spas-12 time was you have any guesses what it might be it felt like about 40 seconds to me but well I was actually 25 40 okay which that's our first having a rough time in there guys I was gonna working pretty hard to get a 25 second run so well how to come back with we have a Benelli m4 the marine version with the collapsible stock yep which i think is actually usable so we'll have to come back and try with that maybe the Mossberg that's the Rosberg pump guns got some semi-auto shotgun so we got a bunch of different runs through the guns to run through that same scenario for it overall time and looking forward to shooting the different platforms they ought to be a lot of fun yep so there you have it guys I'd like for you to subscribe to Mitchell ENCOM like me on Facebook and keep posting guys we've got a lot of neat stuff coming thank you
