and welcome back to Epic arms today we're going to be reviewing the franchi momentum so just keep in mind this is the most basic version that you can get the momentum in this one specifically retails around $700 to $800 Canadian for the exact same model I've seen in a few different stores for both of those prices or in the US you can find it around 650 bucks so it's kind of comparable to like the Browning ab3 Winchester XBR Savage 110 or even the Ruger American so there's a lot of competition at this price point now this rifle you can get it chambered in 6.5 308 Winchester 30 OD 6 300 wind mag 350 Legend 450 Bushmaster and this one specifically the one we're using to review is in 6.5 creedmore just typically it's easier to compare apples to apples with all the other rifles that I have here which are in 6.5 Creed more now a word from our sponsor actually it's me so if you guys want to support me and support the channel and help us be able to afford these fire arms to review uh you can check out our website which is CDN precision.com it's my website and all the proceeds go to making this channel happen and giving us all the resources we need to make good quality content for you so the most important part for a basic hunting rifle such as this is what well for one thing it needs to be accurate it needs to be reliable it needs to be comfortable and it should be light let's start with accuracy accuracy was actually pretty good we tested nine different brands of match ammunition and we came out with an average of 1.23 in our best being 0.53 and we had two of them that were below 1 in the third one was very close but not quite and at this price point it's pretty much what we expect the average on the other hand was a little better than expected so starting with the worst and working our to the best the fochi 142 grain which has the Sierra match Kings one .73 in so already for like you know 90% of East Coast hunting this is going to be fine now the federal Burger 135 grain three shot group was 1.69 and our four shot I was kind of thinking maybe it would make it better but no it made it worse at 1.86 next was the Winchester ready so this is actually one of my favorite brands of ammunition because it does well generally in most of my rifles and this one not quite that well so three shot group at 1.5 and the uh fourth and fifth shot well it didn't really do all that much better the Hornady 120 grain ELD match 1.3 in the Sig Marksman lead 140 grain otm 1.25 in the Barnes vort XLR 127 grain lrx BT 1.14 in the Sig Elite Hunter 130 grain our three shot group was 1.04 I mean so close to being MOA and then our fourth brought it to 1.22 in next is our Hornady 147 grain ELD now this one I mean well generally speaking Hornady ELD matches do very very well in pretty much every rifle that I've owned at least one of the Hornady either the 120s the 140s or even the 147's typically do really well in most of my rifles this one while it is our second best group and some ways should be considered our best just because I put nine shots onto this paper and our third shot was 0.92 fourth shot brought it to 1.21 and all other eight well the total of eight shots stayed in that 1.21 in kind of circle and the majority of them are actually all pretty tight so you could have done you know good amount of longrange shooting with this rifle and it would do fairly well and lastly is our very best three shot Group which was with the Hornady 140 grain ELD match three shot grip was 0.53 in our fourth shot brought it to 1.07 and our fifth shot I mean took it all the way to 1.33 so for a three- shot group pretty darn good and overall in terms of accuracy it definitely does meet the expectations so I think they did I think they did pretty good for accuracy so if we're talking Barrel specifically which I do notice a little bit of more consistency towards one type of rifling or another this one is cold Hammer forg and the barrel is made of Chromo St now for my observations I have noticed cold Hammer forg barrels do tend to be a little bit more accurate than button rifles so maybe that's just the rifles that I reviewed so far but I am seeing a trend in that direction so next let's talk about the barrel action so we're talking reliability and all of that stuff well generally speaking this rifle is quite reliable um I did have some failures to eject when I was using that giant Discovery Ed PRS which is not what you'd want for this rifle because it's really made for long range shooting PRS or like if you're really trying to see just how good your rifle is um but a lot of the brass was banging the uh ele the windage turret and falling back into the action so that was one thing and then I looked in the slow motion portion on I looked on every one of those instances and in some of the instances that was not the case so the action is generally reliable but not all of the time now a better scope that I would recommend for this rifle uh would be the element Helix HD 2 to6 by 50 now this is an awesome hunting scope obviously for a good hunting rifle so you have a 2 to6 magnification so a 3 to9 x40 would be fine but going a little bit lower in magnification is ideal it gives you wider field of view it makes that fast acquisition that quick acquisition of targets a little bit faster uh and it gives you a little bit more brightness too so if you're looking for a great quality optic the element Helix HD 2 to6 x50 is a great option and we will be having it on our website shortly at CDN precision.com now other than that the action is a 60° bolt one piece design it's fluted looks really nice it's got a SEO style extractor and a single plunger the action isn't the smoothest I mean I've tried many many many actions at this price point it definitely is not the smoothest but it's definitely not the least smoothest so there's that it's not bad overall and it's got an oversized bolt knob it'll make cycling the action pretty quick another thing depending on the model you get obviously if you get the momentum Elite it will come with a rail now if you go for the Bare Bones version like I did it's kind of a roll of the dice um the one pictured when I purchased this one it showed a two-piece rail which generally speaking I'm like I'm much prefer a one piece rail just because it gives you so many more mounting options for your scope but it doesn't really add that much more weight uh and for rifle companies to buy you know thousands of One Piece rails it's probably going to cost them maybe 20 to 40 bucks for a lot of volume personally I normally go with MDT but in this instance I don't actually recall who I ordered this from so just keep that in mind because depending on what you buy it could up the price by up to like $100 and MDT at the time I did this review did not have a rail for the Frenchy momentum and they have really really good prices on Rails for rifles typically they are my go-to and if you need rails feel free to reach out to me because I am an MDT dealer okay uh I guess this is where we start the roast accuracy was pretty decent reliability was sufficient um the trigger they call this the relia trigger now at this price point you should know that you are not getting a trigger Tech trigger you're not getting a Tika trigger you're not getting anything that's amazing you're getting something usually that's adequate and that's adjustable this one is adjustable they advertise this as clean crisp break every time according to their website well in this situation it was anything but a clean and crisp break this is one of the creepiest triggers that I have tried so far regardless of price point like if if we were to compare this like even with the uh what is it the ATA Turka which is actually like the um Stevens 334 yeah I think this trigger is actually worse I mean it's metal which is nice it's adjustable which the three Stevens 334 I don't think is adjustable but the trigger was so creepy on this you should be able to tell really really well in this video just how bad and creepy this trigger is because it has a lot of creep all right enough of me complaining about how creepy it is it's supposed to be adjustable between 2 and 4 lbs not quite so I actually brought it down as low as 1.5 which was awesome that is actually where I love to have a target rifle this isn't a target rifle but that's beside the point the variance when I was at its lowest Breaking Point was2 PBS variance which for a rifle at this price point is not bad I brought it to its heaviest weight which was 5.2 or was it 4.5 because I keep testing the breaking weight and it kind of goes everywhere in between those two weights so the heavier you go the larger variance there is in terms of breaking weights so yeah definitely not the best in terms of that and another frustrating thing is I don't see anything in the Forum saying any compatibility with any Remington 700 triggers or any aftermarket options available which in my opinion is a bit of a faux paw uh in terms of like let's say design because if franie is going to come out with a rifle that can shoot we've identified this one it can and shoot decent groups um you should put a good trigger in this thing or at least make it Remington 700 compatible so I'm going to realize this trigger was pretty lousy and replace it with my favorite Remington 700 T trigger typically I prefer the trigger Tech triggers those are my personal favorites um although it kind of brings you know this budget rifle up to a whole new level and makes you requestion should you have even bought this rifle if you're going to spend all that kind of money you know new trigger new rail you know maybe a new stock actually for that matter so yeah there's no aftermarket options available unfortunately maybe you're going to have to find an oldfashioned uh gunsmith who can maybe tune this trigger to your liking yeah so that's a bit of a bummer next is the stock so they claim it's free floating but if you look on this um what left side of the barrel is like touching the right side is free floated so half of it is at least you know you got that uh it's actually pretty ergonomic I'm not really complaining about the ergonomics it's generally you you know pretty average pretty basic this a very you know it's their budget design they're not there's nothing going to be all that fancy about it you might see something more interesting on maybe their Elite version uh but yeah nothing really all that impressive on this they do have integrated uh sling studs here on the front and the back and what's nice is they're recessed so they won't really get hung up as much as let's say one that's protruding it does come with a three round detachable mag so this is one thing that I think is going on this rifle is manufactured in Italy this is Frenchie and similar to sabati they have a magazine release in the trigger guard so I'm going to hold this gun still and just like that the magazine will fall right out quite nicely but it's the only two companies that I've seen that have an almost identical magazine release in their trigger guard it's not that they're the only one doing it in their trigger guard it's they're looks like they're the only ones doing it identical to each other so I have a strong suspicion that they might be either you know one company might be making certain parts for the other and even the action I mean if you had the chance to take a look at a sabati they have very very similar actions and I can't wait to get my hands on a sabati because I want to see if this puppy fits now for I guess liability purposes if it does fit I'm going to recommend you not try it I probably will though so yeah uh I have not seen any aftermarket options in terms of stocks and for a company to release you on a new rifle and they're not to have any aftermarket stock options it's like why why couldn't you make it a Remington 700 footprint if you weren't going to you know uh come out with other aftermarket stocks or at least you know incentivize companies you like GRS to make really nice ergonomic stocks for these things so that's that's another bit of a takeaway unless you just want to keep it its or original configuration which at this price point A lot of people do but you you know give it a couple years down the road maybe they want to make this rifle more comfortable you know long term this rifle is a good shooter why not make it more comfortable for yourself and get yourself like a JS stock or a Boyd's hardwood stock so there there's some incentive to doing that one other thing is the front of this rifle is V pillar block beded so very very similar to the Ruger American which that is a very good design as opposed to usually at this price point we're going to see pillar beding um but when companies go a little bit above and beyond they do like a V pillar betting so this is basically what it looks like and usually when they do that on the front they at least have pillar beding on the back well I guess saati was like it's good enough if we got it on the front and in terms of accuracy I can tell you it was kind of good enough for most of our uh you know accuracy needs it absolutely does the job so lastly in terms of warranty this is nice they actually publish what their warranty is a lot a lot of companies don't even do that yes I'm talking to you Ruger I mean there's other companies too so let me just read you their warranty a new franie firearm is warrantied only to the original retail purchaser for seven years from the date of purchase seven years ain't bad I mean your issues are going to come up probably in the first you know dozen times you bring it to the range so it applies only if the firearm was purchased from an authorized dealer in the United States oh I didn't notice that part what about us Canadians huh what about us uh you do not need your register your firearm online or warranty card to be covered by the warranty the warranty will be validated by the serial number on your firearm we do recommend keeping a copy of your original proof of purchase franchi will at its option repair or replace without charge any firearm that fails due to a defect in materials or workmanship parts and labor are included repairs are warranted for the duration of the original warranty if franie replaces the fire under this warranty you will receive a new 7-year warranty that's pretty awesome aome a lot of companies will not do that franie will return will return replacement Farms to you Freight prepaid another nice bonus this warranty does not cover defects or damage caused by misuse or accidents and a lot of the obvious things so failure to provide proper care maintenance failure to comply with instructions on the owner's manual normal wear and tear rustic erosion or obstructions in the barrel so I'd say that's a very comprehensive warranty now the fact that I'm in Canada also leads me to question what about us What About Us if you guys have any experience with the franchi warranty in Canada please leave those in the comments below I would love to actually know I guess I could reach out to the distributor but uh actually I guess I'll do that I'll put that in the comments below probably a few weeks after this video is posted so um that's my thoughts on the franchi momentum overall a pretty nice rifle you know it's got accuracy it's got some reliability it's got a lousy trigger a fairly generic stock 60 degree bolt throw which I believe I mentioned earlier which is very very nice you know that never gets in the way of your scope love that so guys if you guys enjoyed this video if you want to support the channel our website is CDN precision.com if you're looking for a great quality hunting tripod the Sunway photo t283 CS is my best recommendation to you now if you don't have an arcer rail on the bottom of your rifle cuz maybe you have a rifle just like this I'd recommend getting the Sunway photo sm76 this is our best this is fully aluminum like this thing is Rock Solid and durable it mounts right on the top of the tripod it locks in place and this is what you're going to want to bring hunting the tripod is ultra light it's like 3.6 LBS or it's 2.9 one of the two and with this topped on top of it this is going to be a perfect hunting setup to it's not the most expensive one I generally don't recommend those I mean if you if you need one then you absolutely know that you need the big biggest and beefiest otherwise the t283 CS is the best recommendation to you so guys thanks for watching epic [Music] arms
