foreclosures on the rise and former homeowners out for revenge they urinated in every square inch of that house that story is coming up first tonight breaking news north of Spokane a two car crash has completely closed highway two north of Deer Park Milan Road there are injuries but we don't know how serious there is no estimate as to when the highway will be reopened latest on this breaking story coming up we're also getting reports of another serious accident at North Idaho this one on highway 95 near sagal we're told there are four critical patients there and the Idaho State Patrol is calling it med start to assist we will have more on both of these accidents coming up leaving the water on and plugging the drains piles of trash and waste it's the fill found in foreclosed homes after the owners are evicted and it's happening here in Spokane right now there are four hundred and seventy-eight Spokane homes in the process of foreclosure but that's still lower than the national average KXLY fours Mikael Allen is live at one foreclosed home in Mackay it's unbelievable the awful conditions that many of these homes are left in it is in Awful's a pretty big understatement now these homes are not foreclosed on until someone's missed three months of their mortgage payments and after that they have four months until the home is sold that leaves them seven months but in many cases some people spend that time just making sure their home is left in shambles they right before they were evicted they had a party got a keg and invited a whole bunch of their closest friends and they urinated in every square inch of the house foreclosure absolutely unbelievable I have never smelled anything like that horror stories I've had bowling balls taken to a four-plex up on the north side one time they'll take a hatchet to the wall now this house over by SCC isn't that bad but the former owners here they did leave a few mementos yeah they kicked a hole in the wall the way out various holes in various walls takes you two seconds to make that hole but it's going to take an awful lot to fix it so capable literally as they're leaving kick a hole absolutely and everything that wasn't nailed down and they took all the window coverings down and even some things that were or gone baseboards all the plate covers switch plate covers are missing the closet doors are missing they took everything from light fixtures to the shower door and then of the mirrors there they got about and they took the mirrors right and unfortunately finding a foreclosed home in this condition is far from rare realtor Bob Travis says that around 20% of the homes he sees are vandalized and stripped of anything that could be of value some of them have ostrich syndrome and they just want it to go away and so they just kind of shut down and quit taking care of anything you know a I'm going to lose it anyway so so why bother and they get mad do I sympathize unfortunately I over the years I've seen so much of it not so much anymore I understand some wear and tear I understand some some church obviously you're not going to go through and scrub you scrub the home on the way out but it doesn't have to be trashed now if you do vandalize or take things from a home that was once yours that's now been foreclosed keep in mind that's not yours anymore it's the banks they often do and they can legally come after you for the cost of that stuff you vandalized or stole and because it's not yours anymore it's also illegal to vandalize or take it and the police can and often do come after people reporting in Spokane McKay Allen KXLY 4 HD news
