Ford Model A Grill Shell From Scratch - Street Rat Build

stitches a lot of stitches a whole lot of stitches we've got the grill Shell built 90 percent get ready to do the grill but not this video but anyway I know you don't want to miss it you just don't so come check it out all right [Music] foreign [Music] [Music] hey guys y'all come on in and check this out we're building a hot rod up in here really cool high rod too hey this video we're going to build stuff I know you don't want to miss it you just don't so that's what the roof looks like stitched on we've got a bunch of stitches a bunch you got the visor bolted down got some counter assault screws bolt that down hey that looks pretty rat rotted on it got some dents in it like it should Rat Rod should have some dents a bunch of stitches got her done so we modified the radiator so we can lower it down an inch because it was like an inch too tall we're about to mount it so what we've done went and done you remember this neck comes straight out well we made one on a 45 so I could lower it down so we just now learning how to weld aluminum and we learned one thing never take something that's already made out of aluminum and try to modify it especially this radiator because what we didn't know because you can't tell by just looking at it this radiator was all welded up built welded all together and then they anodized it guess what you can't well anodized aluminum so you can't get the anodized off we start grinding on it it just push down puts that back into more in the metal contaminates the metal uh we got a piece of aluminum too to make the neck out of so we got that welded good right there no problem well now I did he got pretty good at that aluminum welding but when we got ready to weld this onto the radiator we hit a problem and we found out why is this radiator has been anodized after they've built it can't weld anodized aluminum so what we've done went and done it was all Don can do to get attack on each side I mean that was and it was ugly tax but we ground them down a little bit and make them look good and we use a good old JB Weld to finish welding it on and I'm gonna be the guinea pig to find out if it's going to work or not so when we get this thing where we burning some number 11s on the highway back in the woods if that breaks I'll be first we'll let you know that it didn't work but I think we're going to be fine like I said we got a couple of good tacks in it then we sealed it off with JB Weld finished welding along with JB well so we'll see what happens and the reason they anodized it is it makes a little tougher surface that won't scratch and it won't corrode you know how aluminum will get to start turning it'll start corroding after a long time it'll turn flat car and start corroding well that's anodized anodized as electrolysis process you know they put it in a tank of uh solution and hook a battery to it same with this this is anodized they put days put dye and the solution when they wanted something that's anodized they want to color but they didn't put no color in the radiator so just glancing at it we didn't even know it was anodized so we started welding so there's that if you start doing some research you can take some chemicals and a wire wheel and get that color off of there but still the parts anodized underneath it so even if you get the color off of it you still can't weld it so there's that so we got the radiator mounted building a grill shell well I done went down I cut me a piece of sheet metal five inches wide and got it kind of wrapped around that's the first part of it actually the whole thing is called a radiator shroud I'm calling this the grill shell because the grill this is going to be the front grill part and I got it marked out where I wanted it and got Drew out on one side that I went ahead and cut that and I got to be a line down the center and what I can do is take that and fold it over right on that line and then I can mark this side and then be asymmetrical is what I got going on there Don's got a bunch of pieces of number nine wire straightened out you know how we do it with a drill of if you want to see it you haven't seen it yet just keep a drill most of you already know some of you probably don't know so yeah next video we're going to show you how to straighten wire and how to build a grill with that number nine wire we got the roof
