1966 Ford F100 BARNFIND: Will it Start?

this is a 1966 ford f-100 pickup truck it's been sitting for about five years at my grandparents house in this video me and my dad get it started drive it onto a trailer and then drive about six hours back to our house so we got in here and opened the hood pulled the air cleaner off and started looking to see what we needed to do and we see we do have a ground wire that mice or rats or something ate through and then we got a plug wire down here grab that right there it's supposed to go right there but they ate that so we got a new set of plug wires so we're gonna fix the plug wires and we're gonna fix the uh ground wire right there and uh hook up some jumper cables and see what she does because we're trying to drive it on the trailer instead of having to somehow or another get it up on this u-haul trailer that has no winch so we'll just have to just give it a shot and see battery's got water in it we already checked that it hadn't been charged in a while haven't been cranked in a while so we'll uh get some starter fluid maybe pour a little gas right in the top of the car there at first see what we can get done okay so we uh pulled this wire off and we're gonna have to put this obviously this goes right back here so we'll just build us a new one of those and uh we should be good to go there and then this is gonna go in here there we go wire sitting right there so now we're all set let me get the channel all right we're just going to tighten this nut right here a little bit with the channel locks just so it doesn't shake loose on us and we lose ground or something all right that's tight enough all right so now we pulled the spark plug wire that they managed to chew in half so now we're going to get our universal spark plug wire set right there that we picked up at parts store figure out which end we need to which of the 90 degree ends we need to put on there because it comes with two sizes and then we'll put this thing back together so we took the old wire pulled this out to see what connectors they had tested the size got in our universal kit so we got the the big set out of the universal kit and it comes with these same connectors that are on there saw how they had it connected and everything so now we're just gonna do the same thing there we go got it bent over so now i just gotta keep grabbing that down i think i pushed through that a little bit but it's not going anywhere so we can always fix that later but think we'll be good give him a pull test and it's working all right so now we just got to feed this back up in here there we go all right now we're gonna go try it on the truck all right so we're gonna start on the distributor cap end here and make sure this is gonna go in and seem to work there it goes it clicked got it let's come over here see spark plug right there some of these other cables out of the way push that thing i think if i can get over there to that side it's supposed to click or something yeah you'll feel it kind of like slide on to the end of the spark plug i think it's there yeah feels like it's bottomed out that wire right there is pretty suspect too so we can make all of them but i think at this point let's see if we can work on finding the gas we'll hook up the jumper cables and let it run off the truck for a little bit see if it'll get uh some charge in it while we're finding the gas and then we'll go from there okay so we did the spark plug wires got that ground wire done we thought we were going to be able to use the old battery but we checked it and it only had about a volt and a half and the charger wouldn't even charge it anymore so we just went down picked up a cheap little uh die hard red here got him hooked in there and now we're going to try to see what happens so we'll come over here and look in the truck all right you don't have to actually there you go now turn it one notch and let's see if we get any lights or anything there we go all right so we got the oil light so that means we got some power going so now i'm gonna come back around here to the front make sure it suckers in neutral all right okay that's bad um okay turn the key do what okay that's good yep so all right we're gonna stop right here and we're going to uh put some gas in the tank we're gonna get our can of starter fluid and stuff and then we're gonna give it a shot [Applause] it's working right it's it's going when i spray starter fluid in it so i i guess that could mean fuel is not getting there completely [Music] sprayed a decent amount in there no that's not doing it you're a carburetor see if it if there's fuel up in here or not i'm thinking about doing but the problem is it's pretty uh been hitting my head on the hood a lot yeah i don't know that that's going to be the best idea because that is that hose is going to need to be replaced it's wet it's wet in there it's at least wet in there oh want to pull it forward are you gonna move it [Music] foreign [Music] so [Music] [Music] okay we got some video of it going up there but we were in a hurry so uh we got it cranked got it going pulled the ramps out and made a run for it and uh managed to get it up there we've got it strapped down uh the fuel leak stopped actually it was still leaking while we were using it but now that we've uh quit using it well i said it stopped but it didn't um anyway so here's you can see inside a little better see all the acorns that the little mice were uh dragging in here one of them ran around in the cockpit there when i was uh moving the truck jumped out of the glove box and ran under the seat so he's probably still back in there somewhere i don't know we'll see we'll give it a good clean later but there's the inside so we've uh been testing some stuff the hazard lights work the horn um blinkers blinkers work for the most part the right turn wasn't working as good as the left turn or no i had that backwards one the wipers did work um emergency flashers worked but we got it up here and all we had done to get it up here was that uh that ground wire two spark plug wires a battery we had to break down and buy that new one and uh a whole can of starter fluid about a half a mason jar of gas in the carburetor but once it got running and got itself primed good um it it yeah it wasn't running the best but uh it was running good enough and uh we cut it off a couple different times and recranked it and it cranked right up um and ran we did a little bit of a burnout trying to get up on the trailer i think i was at just a little bit of the wrong angle and the uh the front right tire was grabbing so we did a little bit of burnout on here but we got it on got it strapped down looked around underneath and i mean there's some basic surface rust and stuff like that but uh nothing that looked rusted through or too bad so uh this is not all dirt some of it is like a fungusy kind of stuff that you see growing on trees so we'll have to see how that comes off sounded pretty good you can see the new exhaust that was put on it like 12 years ago or something it just never got run and anyway that's what we got and that's it so we're uh i think we're good for the day we're going to go ahead and head inside we put the air cleaner back on it so we didn't get any more cockroaches in the uh yeah we when i sprayed starter fluid in the first time a cockroach ran out he apparently did not like starter fluid um but we put the field the air filter back on it and we're just gonna shut it set it up for the night we'll get back at it tomorrow and we'll head out of here and get back down to uh the house and we'll clean it out good and go from there
