came in with you here tonight as the baton billies have been celebrating homecoming all week long and the wimberley texans are in town tonight for a big tilt between a couple of uh pretty uh highly looked at football teams here coming in yeah they're ranked number eight and uh i tell you what uh billie's have a good performance tonight they could find themselves ranked next week yeah and i think i've seen in the padilla poll and others that uh the billies are are up there in the top 25 yeah they have slowly made that trek uh towards that uh top 25 and with some outstanding performances three weeks in a row yeah billy's come in at three-and-oh wimberley at two and one if you recall this game last year was a barn burner in wembley fredericksburg losing by one point 20-21 the year before was a fairly close game here at batland billy stadium and then three years ago the televised ball game that uh was on kbvo i believe was a right and billy's won that in wimberley that night so it has been a very good rivalry over the last several years like we said wimberley comes in very highly ranked tonight the baton billy's come in at 3-0 with wins over sam houston kerbel tyvee here at home a couple of weeks ago and then an interesting one last week against gonzalez yeah you know just a funny game uh it just uh you know we didn't see leija handle the ball much early uh you know he's he was averaging over 175 yards on the ground and we just didn't see him early in the game and uh you know it was 14 to eight when we went into halftime and then it was jesse lehigh time yeah you know second half and the village actually trailed there in the third quarter for a brief moment and took the lead and then like i said jesse leija did the rest well over 100 yards rushing in the second half alone last week which brings us to players of the week from last week as we go through our pre-game stuff here the billy's last week as we said taking on the gonzales apaches and our players of the week for different themes and i think i heard there was a sophomores that that won the decorating comments yeah you know uh and and i just got in there today you know my classroom's over here and by the weight room and never never land so sometimes i i don't venture too far up there uh in the main building but uh it got in there today and yeah they were there was one one side was red the other side was blue the other side was gray and i tell you what it was something so you know it's good to see that that is still an important thing to high school students today you know because lots of things have kind of gone by the wayside old time traditions things that you and i grew up with or even 10 15 years ago that we're still but homecoming has still been you know uh it's about yeah yeah in their lives they decorate the halls they spend a lot of time i think i enjoyed a couple of years ago we had all the carnival stuff up in front of the school and i know kova does not allowed us to do that but that was great for the kids to kind of get a feel for uh what was happening but the high school kids uh they have a theme every day and dress accordingly i know my daughter the junior at high school that was pretty important to her being ready to to and she's a part of the newspaper and all that stuff so they spent a lot of time on social media promoting that stuff and uh you and i both don't follow a lot of that social media but that's that's right that's for sure yeah well we're about six and a half minutes away from kickoff the batman billy's tonight taking on the wimberley texans glad you could talking about you know ranked team in wimberley and then you have bernie who has become one of our rivals but it's you know they're non-district games they're not in not as important of course you want to win but uh you know getting healthy for those district games that's that really should be the key so uh we might we might not see those kids you know for the next two weeks and then they'll have a third week uh you know to uh to get even more healthy so uh we'll see and and hope they uh billy's can uh get healthy because i tell you what uh when they're at full strength they're doing a great job yeah exactly well tim won't you run down that starting lineup on the offensive side of the ball and then i'll catch the defense as both teams getting into their tunnel and getting ready to make their way out onto the field starting lineup on the offense all right we're going to start with that line which has done a great job this year and that's what's giving lehigh all that room senior laden line with sam baron and jordy hernandez at the guards the center is clayton curl and the two tackles derrick whitworth and rusty price and they're going to be doing the work in the trenches for the billies at wide receiver we've got charlie johnson a junior a senior ryder wade junior layton buyer and junior mason ray and then in the backfield you've got jesse leija and cole emel i would say under center but uh he's taking it in the shotgun formation so and the uh holder uh for the billies will be will degenhardt and giovanni alva the junior kicker has done an outstanding job this year for the billy's i would concur boy he has been very solid in putting points on the board for the billy's in that point after uh you know a new name leighton baier getting the start tonight at uh receiver as well so be interesting to see if cole emel will try to target him and we'll see john fritsch running the ball behind leija as well on the defensive side the ends will be noah borda a senior and james sivera a senior we called james savera named quite often last week against gonzalez as he seemed to be in the backfield just as much as the quarterback and the running back the tackles logan mccarver and sammy deluna both juniors the inside backers are logan metzger and gary seidenberger the outside linebacker is luke decuffa at safety tonight will degenhardt the other safety javier rodriguez deagon harda junior rodriguez a senior cristobal neri at the corner and angel neri at the other corner a sophomore and a junior respectable respectfully the punter tonight angel neri will be handling those duties and gary seidenberger will be the deep snapper for the billies tonight as team captains make their way out to midfield and looking for the billies there we've got number 21 gary seidenberger number 33 logan metzger number seven mason ray and number 10 cole emel they meet with the officials to flip that coin to see who will get the ball first yeah and randall you talk about that defense uh the strength of that defense i think is that front seven uh including those linebackers in the middle when it comes to calling people's names out uh the last three games we've been saying metzger seidenberger and dukha and and you said sibera and logan mccarver had a huge huge night last week for the billy's getting a which deflection which caused that uh interception by layton buyer so uh yeah you know that that's they've been able to put some pressure uh and we'll see if they can this they're gonna get a test tonight exactly the billy's win the coin toss and they elect to receive the opening kickoff so we'll see how that pans out i think the last two weeks they've lost the coin toss and ended up receiving first anyway so that has worked well for late night and he got later yeah i was driving the bus and uh unfortunately we got a flat so uh sent the kids on my bus with the other ones and then kind of limped in made him for a slow journey home emel in the shotgun gonna shift the offense just a little bit leija in the backfield bring one man in motion to the far side takes the snap gonna hand off to leija he's gonna bounce it to the outside breaks a tackle or two and he's gonna be off to a good start with a 16-yard run on first down for the baton billy's yeah and and randall it that that that play just shows how good lehigh is it was meant to go inside in between the tackles and nothing was there and he waited then he bounced it out the right uh to the right side and picked up 14 or 16 yards first down and 10 a 16 yard gain on the first play from scrimmage for jesse leija emel in the shotgun takes the snap going to pitch to lehigh gonna try that right side again he'll get three on the carry and then be knocked back but it'll be second down and seven nice chair nice uh pursuit there by wimberley defenders as they're actually going to move well i thought he was i thought he got two yards out of it but uh moved it back a yard second down and nine i did two not going to give him that forward progression so a one yard gain two men split left one to the right that is charlie johnson over here on the near side ball on the near hash emel with about eight seconds on the play clock barks a few words to the line of scrimmage now back in the shotgun takes the snap looking to pass gonna step up and just kind of slide to the ground there after about a one yard gain and it'll be third down and eight he saw some white jerseys coming his way yeah it looked like he was trying to uh hit charlie johnson on a quick hitter and uh good coverage there decided to pull it uh pull it put it down and and run for it picked up a yard third down and eight everyone in tight charlie johnson now going to go in motion to the far side fakes the handoff to lehigh good protection throws pass is caught that is mason ray and that will be a first down about a 10 yard pass completion there from emil to ray and what a great catch there by ray as he uh he had to talk about outstretched body right there you know if he hits him in stride he may pick up and um you know get get close to that end zone but uh great catch there by mason ray to move the chains gonna split mason out to the far side of the field charlie johnson here on the near side shotgun again for cole emil going to bring johnson in motion he gets the handoff he's going to be dropped for a loss in the backfield as uh just unable to get the corner there and pick up any positive yardage it'll be second down and long yeah it looked like the linebacker came in on a stunt and uh tackled johnson for about a five yard loss there one thing you do not want to do is get behind the chains against this wimberley texans defense so second down and 15 for the billies three men split left ball in the middle of the field emel looking to pass steps up in the pocket throws pass will be incomplete it was intended for ryder wade and bring up third down and 15. he was hit immediately but i still think he probably should have caught that ball yeah would have been a short game maybe would have gotten back to the original line of scrimmage but the incompletion brings up third down in 15. ball inside texan territory at the 47 yard line three men to the right one to the left leija in the backfield with emil shotgun good snap looking to throw now he's going to be flushed out of the pocket going to get rid of it and it's going to be incomplete intended for mason ray and that was a tough catch and a little behind him but uh tough throw there as emil had to step up in the pocket as he was being pressured nathan simpson was right there and put a lick on mason ray it'll be fourth down for the billy's and angel nary the end punt angel standing just across the 40-yard line good snap plenty of time high wobbly kick gonna hit at the 37 take a billy bounce down inside we'll see where they mark it i'm going to say the 21 they're going to say the 22 so first and 10 for the texans is that wimberley offense trots out on the field you know and randall it's going to be interesting uh going against that defense there for the texans because they only have a three-man front and they have four linebackers you know so those linebackers just kind of wait there you know especially in pass protection uh or past defense you know emma's getting some time uh but then when he tries to step up the linebackers are there so first down and 10 for wimberley shotgun formation with an empty backfield bring a man in motion low snap billy defense is there as they try to set up a screen and they make the completion and he's going to go out to the right side and be off to the races as no one will touch him the screen pass completes 78 yards to juan almeido and omido will go 78 yards for the touchdown on the first play from scrimmage for the wimberley texans you know well the billies had brought the pressure and talked about the right call at the right time for shotgun he's got moses ray to his left trips left one man split out wide to the right and off to ray right up the middle breaking tackles as the billy's have a hard time pulling him down he'll have a first down inside fredericksburg territory at the 38 yard line 19 yard run there by ray and fortunately for the billies that was javier rodriguez making that shoestring tackle so first down and 10. ryan shaw split out here wide to the left now he'll pull in tight everyone in tight quarterback takes the snap option going the right side with almato now he pulls up and passes and it is incomplete boy they a lot of things to think about right there you had a fake to moses ray option with omedo going around the right side and then mccollum just stops and throws good patience by the defense there of staying with their assignments yeah and uh that was metzger uh putting pressure on quarterback and uh very nice coverage there by number five for the billy's angel neary that was going to have to be a perfect pass for that thing to be completed so incompletion brings up second down and 10. fredericksburg trailing 7-0 here in the first quarter of play we're down to about four minutes and 40 seconds wimberly under the shotgun mccollum gonna bring a man in motion one man in the backfield handoff a little play action trying to set up the screen on this other side and he's got some room to run great shoestring tackle there by the billy's trying to see who that was yeah that was uh javier rodriguez good job by javier a touchdown saving tackle there 27 yard you know that was the touchdown that they scored earlier just ran the same wide receiver screen first down and 10 ball at the 17 yard line this time wimberley very methodical in moving the ball down the field two men split right one to the left omido and ray in the backfield with the sophomore quarterback mccollum and off to ray he's going to be met in the backfield and dropped for a loss of two second down yeah a nice penetration in the in the backfield there by sibera you know ray has been on the varsity since he was a freshman a heck of a runner there for the texans but a nice play there by siberia brings up second down and 12. philly defense needing to stiffen up here just a little bit keep these texans out of the end zone one man left two right moses ray in the backfield mccollum quarterback a little flare pass out in the flats and omido breaking tackles down inside the five and he's into the end zone for the touchdown a 19-yard pass completion on just a little quick pass out into the flats and then let omito do the work and he did 19 yards later into the end zone for the touchdown by that time the billy's the two defensive backs they had the outside covered and all me to cut it back up the middle and uh pursuit from the linebackers were actually the linebackers were going after the quarterback well he shook off a couple of big hits there and kept his feet kick is up and it is good with moment that he might spring it for more and then kind of stumbled yeah you know and like i said you know they they with only having three guys on the line of scrimmage it looks like he's got a hole they got four linebackers clogging up the other holes so uh you know lehigh's gonna have to do a good job of uh of breaking some tackles tonight if he wants to get a long run third down and six billy's moving left to right mason ray out here on the near side three men to the left shotgun for emil takes the snap plenty of time now he's gonna look and throw passes incomplete behind the intended receiver mason ray and that's gonna be fourth down and six and uh that'll bring angel nary into punt again for the billies well you know i thought emil did a nice job of uh of looking at his reads and and checked down to the right side and you know nobody was open so did a nice job just kind of threw that away don't want to turn over here in your own territory angel's standing at about his own 26 to kick this one away plenty of time no pressure good kick going to be fielded at the 25 by omido omito will start right and then that special teams will get to him he spins a couple of times but they're going to drop him at the 27 so a two-yard gain on that return he was able to uh shed about three tacklers there and like you said spinning and whirling dervish was able to pick up really i think you gotta like where you are going into halftime of course you know if you've got to be down you know you're down one and and you know the difference is you know hitting the upright uh you know on on the extra points so i think uh you're right the two big plays uh for wimberley got them on the board and uh coach wilder did a nice job with his defense they settled in and i said hey look you know let's cover that make them run the football and they've done a nice job i've got them wimberley's got only 21 yards on the ground they do have 157 yards in the air but just really been two really big plays the 70 78 yard touchdown on the very first play from scrimmage there by the texans and then they had a uh back to back 20 27 yard pass and a 19 yard touchdown pass so you take those out of the mix and defense is doing their job uh and i'm i think the offense has done a nice job of you know moving the football you know they're not getting the big chunks uh you know jesse's making some plays you know they were driving down there and then we had the big the fumble um but uh other than that uh you got to like where they are at halftime yeah i would say so down by one and and a you know a little bit of a bad snap a bad hole whatever you want to call it there on that on that first p-a-t and the ball hits the upright he still got it up in the air and gave it a chance uh to to keep this game within one well you know and the other thing you got to realize is uh you know yansky's usual the uh primary uh uh holder on the extra point he's not playing tonight and then degenhardt his backup is not in there so uh you know that that that could be uh a key point right there but uh you know you saw that catch by javi uh the replay just a few minutes ago what a great play you know and emel did a nice job as he came open he just kind of lofted that thing up just enough air for javi to get under it and put points on the board so you know they're running the ball well the guy billy's with a hundred yards on the ground lehigh was 68 yards you know it's a it's a big difference from last year or last week as he only touched the ball twice uh but uh here he's got 68 yards but a big surprise has been mason ray mason ray has had an incredible first half and uh maybe feeling the need to step up a little bit without yansky being in the ball game and he has certainly done that thus far here in the first half of play and that's what good teams do you know that next man up and you know you see me you see your teammate uh you know having to be on the sidelines and and you go okay well then you know my role has changed and that's what i you know i think you know good teams can understand roles and sometimes you know sometimes kids don't like their role until something happens and then they got to step up and so people are stepping up tonight exactly well right quickly a look around billy nation volleyball team getting the win tonight over devine 3-0 uh tough one they lost in three on tuesday night to cornerstone christian in san antonio i think the freshman one and the jv and varsity both lost but that was good experience coach coach ramer told me they have nine d1 players wow nine and you can only start six of them so that's pretty good yep tennis team got the win on tuesday over bandera to improve to two and one in district we're on the road tomorrow to kerrville uh playing a little quad match over there we'll play divine in the morning at nine o'clock and then uvalde at one o'clock in the afternoon so a couple of good regional matchups for us uh our district plays into the district where devine is for the first round of playoffs so get an opportunity to kind of judge or gauge a little bit what they've got over there uh cross-country action was at harper last saturday boys and girls both won jorge lopez uh won the boys division and uh grona won the girls yeah yeah she's just going to win so and they run i think they run this weekend at wimberley they were supposed to run at either canyon lake or davenport and uh of course was a little bit questionable coach aldridge i think has decided just to run uh here at home run some time trials i know i've got those three boys that run varsity cross country are going with me to play tennis in the morning was expecting them to have to go run when they they are not so uh schedule change there far across country not running tomorrow and sometimes that's you know that's a great job by a coach saying you know i just don't think this is a good place for our kids to run and you know so you know and not getting the day off right here so yeah nice job there by coach aldridge and now the billies are on the the band is on the field and they're not necessarily going to give their performance because it's homecoming they're getting set up for that homecoming court to come out onto the field red hearts down here as well we're going to take a quick break but will be kicking it away to start the second half as they won the toss and elected to receive and that first possession for the billy's they kind of bounced down the field a little bit and then stalled out and then it was wimberley on first and ten their first possession a little screenplay and old meadow was off to the races as you see the wimberley texans come back out on the field and then you know fredericksburg like you said kind of settled in on defense after giving up a couple of big plays and here we are 14-13 as that offense finally got the ball moving down the field yeah well with the you know three minutes to go in the first quarter billy's trailed 14 to nothing and we thought i mean i don't know what you thought randall but i'm thinking in my mind uh oh yeah and uh but billies have done a nice job they have scored 13 unanswered points to get within one and they're in the ball game so gonna be interesting to see and like you said the defensive has settled in can they continue that and can i tell you what if we get a three and out we're gonna get some good field position so uh you're right we'll see uh what happens with that first possession exactly shout out to bobby constantine watching hey he says we look about 20 pounds lighter i like the tv so bobby we appreciate that yes hey tell my wife that so yeah it's just the camera that makes us look alive but kick this one away to start the second half and they got to continue to contain olmedo and moses ray as they did very well at keeping those guys in line in the second quarter so it will be imperative for the billy's to kick the ball well here and cover it and then go to work on defense yeah most definitely i would expect that wemberly will come out and try something a little bit different here in the third quarter well you know that's the thing second half is always a game of adjustments who who makes the right adjustments at the right time especially in a close game like this giovanni alva has it teed up at the 40-yard line ready to kick away third quarter is underway good high deep kick to almeido almeido slips at the four yard line and that gives that defense just a little bit of time to get there and they're gonna stop him at the 20-yard line as that slip at the four kind of allowed that cover team to get there i thought his knee might have touched and if that would have happened they had the ball at the round the four yard line as they were expecting uh alva to just uh kind of pooch it like he did earlier and uh that time he banged it deep yeah the first two times he had just kind of kicked it high end over in short and not giving omido or ray a chance this time it pulled them up and he kicked it over their head trips right one in the backfield that is ray looking this way trying to set up that screen to almeido and what a hit yeah that uh metzger right there they said no not this time first play first play the first half went for a touchdown first play of the second half went from minus one yeah metzger put the wood to him right there nothing doing second down and 11. and if i'm almato i i think that makes me a little wary the next time they throw me that ball i'm gonna get on the other side of the field over here away from metzger two men left two right mccollum looking to pass throws and uh it is bobbled incomplete over there on the far sideline that's going to bring up third down and 11. so one for one one for two here in the second half yeah ball was uh hit him right in the hands and just bobbled it and gave uh luke duka enough time to knock it away so that brings up third and 11 so big defensive play here big third down two men split left the two to the right moses ray to the right mccollum in the shotgun good snap gonna roll out here to the near sideline pressure coming pass is uh gonna be they're gonna mark that as a catch and uh boy he is right at the first down marker they're not even gonna glance they're just gonna move those chains i sure thought he might be short but ball at the 31 that'll be a first down for the texans well that was a nice catch there as he had to go to the turf before the ball hit so no nothing coming from the billy coaches there so it must have been a good catch as he kind of came back to the ball first down and ten three men left one right mccollum takes the snap hands off to moses ray they're going to stuff him at the line of scrimmage maybe a yard on the play as a good job of containing him for a one-yard carry yeah there were three people there for the billies and that was sevens are wild there as 77 logan uh no that's not logan yeah mccarver and number seven for the billy's uh mason ray and then of course gary seidenberger in there to finish it off second down and nine ball at the 32-yard line shotgun fakes the handoff throws setting up that little screen out there again and the billy defense is there he's going to get two or three on second effort but uh great job of not allowing that one to bust out for any more yeah that's going to be the key is do not give you can't give up containment there and you can't give up uh you know some missed tackles nice job there by uh 22 luke de cuppa for the billys so third down and six after that short completion one man split out here wide to the right that is true couch three to the right one to the left good snap mccollum looks right throws left and uh see if he caught that over there he did hang on to it so it'll be a first down at the 43-44 yard line as uh just enough to look the defender off and open things up on the left side and good coverage there i felt that uh angel neri was right there but good timing on that pass as he turned immediately caught the ball first down and ten two men right two to the left mccollum rolling right looking throwing pass is complete inside billy territory at the 47. he'll be short of the first by a yard but number 11 nathan simpson senior with the catch knocked out of bounds by the homecoming king he's not wearing his crown right now just a helmet yeah if he's got it on it's pretty tight under that helmet and he might second down and one three men left one to the right mccollum sophomore quarterback hands off to moses ray ray's fumble to the line of scrimmage a fumble on the play a little bit of a scramble for the ball it'd sure be nice to see a red jersey come up with that but he doesn't it's going to continue to roll that clock third down and a yard i'd like to see uh replay on there see who knocked that ball loose that might have been number 56 for the billy's yori estrada loss on the play of one so third down and two for the texans one man split right three to the left moses ray in the backfield with mccollum third down and two handoff a little delayed handoff to moses ray and the defense is going to stop him it's going to be fourth down and two decision time here for the texans was a big play by noah border as he came off that defensive end and uh slanted down and and made a nice tackle there on ray looks like wimberley going to punt this one away and play a little bit of field position game and try to pin the billy's back deep in their own territory as a mason ray is that mason no that's hobby that is javi whoa high end over in kick not much on this one it's going to hit at the 30 kind of check up back to the texans at the 25 so if he was trying to pin him deep no success though he got a hold of that but it went straight up so billy's defense does their job gave up some yardage but uh didn't bend didn't break puts the ball at the 25-yard line they originally set it at 26 and then they move it back and the chain gang over there haven't yeah now they're having to adjust they'd already stretched the chain having to restretch the chain first and ten one man split left one to the right bring that man in motion emil good snap handoff to leija cuts it back up starts left cuts back up and he'll get what we think is five but it ends up being about three yeah it looked like that might have been a hobby that they put in the backfield so rodriguez picks up two i said well i can't get this helmet off i got that crown on might as across the 30 to the 31. pick up a five for leija needed a little burst there and had he found that burst he would have picked up the first down so third down we're gonna call that four three men of scrimmage and it'll be fourth down for fredericksburg and uh looks like uh hunt team angel nary will head back in there to hunt this one away just a nice defensive play there yeah nothing you could up billy's live will stay on the air and broadcast the marching band's performance as they continue to prep and get ready for competition and fredericksburg a good ball game i have to say you know turnovers were very costly for fredericksburg tonight but hard fought wimberley just a little bit better team tonight they come out on top 30 to 16 and just kind of recap things quickly tim uh run down a few stats over there and then we'll enjoy the band well you said the b the key was uh turnovers and you can't lose the turnover game to uh when you're playing a ranked team and you know billy's had three turnovers tonight uh but uh you know weren't able to get on track as much on the ground 143 yards only 43 yards in the second half though uh emil did throw for 171 yards you know so that you're talking over 300 yards total offense not really that bad against a ranked opponent uh you know so defensively i thought defense really played well uh you know a couple turnovers hurt uh put them in a bind you know just gave up some big plays only 29 yards on the ground that's it for wimberley but they had 320 in the air and and you know that's going to be you know we talked about you know that defensive secondary is is really what needs to step up you know that front seven does a nice job of putting pressure and and those linebackers do a great job but uh yeah it's it's just uh you know and bernie's going to throw the football next week so it's going to be an interesting test well you look at scoring plays for the wimberley texans and it's a 78-yard pass completion which was a screen a 19-yard pass completion for a touchdown a uh there was a 49 yard touchdown 42 43 yards so all coming through the air and leija scoring tonight emil finding rodriguez in the end zone for a touchdown and alva with a 28-yard field goal the scores tonight for the batman billie's and and i'll say it again tim of a good hard fought ball game on both sides i think turnovers were the difference for us uh had we've not turned the ball over two three times uh this evening maybe a little bit of penalties yeah you had that one on sportsmanlike conduct call when we were down one yard one yard line backed us up and that's where we ended up kicking the field goal you like to get six out of that but uh homecoming has been a big week for all these kids all week long we we hope that
