hi everyone i'm liz and welcome back to elizabeth anne ken stitch for flosstube episode 55. [Music] do this hair is brought to you by not wanting to blow dry last night and i'm into it hi everyone welcome back to another sunday flosstube video it is your host liz here with stitching quilting haul and all of the things um i want to start out by giving a big thank you to everyone who purchased one of my needle minders last week um thank you so much i think i have everything mailed out that's been ordered except for a few from yesterday so those will go out tomorrow um and yeah that was so much fun i had no idea that people would actually want to buy a needle minder with my name on it but i mean it is small but you know um and i think i'll probably do more just because they're fun to do and i like making them so um i think i have about 30 or so of these left um in stock like ready to ship right now um and then i do have an order for some more just to like keep my shop stocked for a while if you know anybody discovers them and was like oh wait i want a needle minder um so anyways these are available now and then i think maybe once the stock of these runs out in maybe a month or so if it does um i'll do probably another design like i don't know just for fun kind of want to keep designing these um so yeah but thank you all so much i've heard that people have started getting their orders and started using them so that's super exciting so please if you post about it on instagram or um share a picture somewhere tag me because i want to see uh so let's see what have i been up to this week not that much um i have pretty much sewed and quilted um sewed and quilted i pretty much sewed and cross stitched every single day this week i mean i always crossed stitch every day but i think i've sewn every single night this week um i just had a lot i want to make all of the things all the time and some weeks that urge it's more prevalent than others and last week i just had every i mean i started a new quilt at 11 p.m last night i made the first quilt block at 11 p.m last night which i'll show you in a little while because like i just wanna make all of the things oh i'm silly um okay i have an fffo to show you that's a fully finished fall object okay i need to like pull it back in this whole video cannot be me giggling um but apparently it's going to be so i finished my autumn alphabet by the scarlet house i'm looking around because i don't know what i did with the chart it's fine i'll you you'll see but you're about to see what it looks like this is the fall alphabet by the scarlet house fully finished so i absolutely love how this turned out this is um stitched on 40 count i believe beach brew by r r and i use the called for brown but then i think i picked my own orange green and natural so um but i mean i went for you know the called for look i just didn't have all of the colors so i picked what i had um [Music] i had this mostly done i think well i started it last fall and then was like oh i'm not gonna get this done in time i'll put it away for next year and so i remember to pull it out a miracle uh and get it all finished up so i filmed a video of me finishing this the other night um it's a pretty simple finish it's just the cross stitch mounted on a mat board like i like to do with um a board finish like this is a uh cheeseboard breadboard whatever you call these from homestead needleworks april april and alabama i believe is her instagram name um homestead needleworks is our etsy shop i'll link it below and so the board comes finished like this with this orange crackle and this board was made specifically for this design so um when i bought the pattern i bought the board on her etsy so because i knew i'd want to use it for finishing but i really wanted to add some little polka dots um so you can see in the video in a minute that how i added those and i wanted to age them so i used a dark wax over them to take down this like stark whiteness and i really love how it turned out um this finish i think is very prim and i love it but i wanted like slightly more whimsy you know whimsical that's me uh so i just i don't know i thought it'd be fun to add the polka dots and i love how it turned out i also rounded the corners which i show you in the video for the first time um yeah so i think it turned out pretty cool i love it so i'll let you watch that video now [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] so [Music] that's my autumn alphabet okay so let's get into cross stitch whips first up this week i stitched out of this home for the holidays book my christmas garden i have not worked on this one excuse me in months and i love it so much um if i want to have it finished for christmas i should really get it in gear i don't know if i'm gonna make that a goal because i have so many other things i want to get done but i wanted to work on it so um sorry i'm just trying to find the pattern uh i'm sure you all know what it looks like but that's christmas garden by blackbird designs out of this book and here is my progress so i am stitching mine on 36 count picture this plus sand and um i think this is if not the favorite one of my like top three favorite fabrics i absolutely love 36 count picture this plus um and i am using the called for green and brown but i changed my red and gold colors um i changed my red to ruby slippers and i changed my gold to bee's knees just um to make them a little bit bolder the whole pattern is done in kind of mid-tone colors and the red has a lot of variegation it calls for calico kitty but um i just wanted kind of a more solid red so one of the tones like the darker tone of calico kitty i compared and i pulled ruby slipper which is one of my favorite reds so that's my christmas garden my next whip was labor for learning i am getting close to a finish on this so i think i'm gonna stick with this for the next week and see if i can knock it out here is where i'm at i'm stitching this one on 36 count serif and fabrics nougat with all of the called for floss and i finished most of the words um thank you all to the caring people who pointed out i had forgotten or i hadn't stitched one of the letters last week i didn't i did know um i always stitch from right to left so if you ever see anything over on the left that appears missing it's just because i haven't gotten over there yet but um so i know there's a few letters missing right now but i'm almost done with those words and um i shouldn't but i am i just keep leaving the over one to the end but maybe maybe that'll be this afternoon's project maybe i'll tackle some of the over one because right now i have a headless lady and a flowerless stem and then there's supposed to be a little butterfly in there so maybe i'll suck it up and do some over one stitching later today but that's my labor for learning um and thank you all so much for sharing all of your school supply stories too um and reminiscing with me a lot of people have rightly pointed out that you should go buy school supplies for the thrill of it and then donate them which is excellent we have this program through work called family giving tree and they do um things at christmas and back to school where you can buy like school supply packs or christmas gifts and then they facilitate the actual um passing out and so i always do that so um but you know the thrill of like shopping in person is you know what i miss so yeah okay so my third whip is kind of fun and exciting it is after the rain by hello from liz matthews and so um this is a brand new release uh not even out yet but it's a release for uh needlework expo that's happening right now and i got an early copy because i did a little collaboration with liz um to pick a color palette for this chart so if you haven't watched liz's most recent flosstube with her and her mom showing off all their new releases you should go watch that and also um jump on her newsletter and uh in her newsletter and in the video she shares that she asked a few people to collaborate with her on this design and pick alternate colorways because it is just the perfect pattern for kind of choosing your own colors and doing your own thing and it's gorgeous as is but i had so much fun and i was just like completely honored to be asked um to pick a color palette and i was like yes oh my gosh i can't wait and so i actually started stitching mine and i thought i'd show you my little progress so here is um some of my colors and my little start on after the rain just love it i kind of think i might just do four of them and then square it off with a border and make it into a little pin pillow just because i think that would be so fun oh i am stitching mine on 40 count beach brew by rnr which is also one of my favorite fabrics i use this a lot but 40 count beach brew and i am using dmc colors that i picked um i'll put my floss list in the description box below um but you should also go subscribe to liz matthews newsletter and um you can get my color list as well as everyone else i think it was um julie from kansas city girl in colorado world kia bee um [Music] yamir allman m m's and shannon bromo from sodastitcher and oh if i forget anyone else i'll put it on the bottom sorry i should have looked this up before i started filming i think that was everyone um anyways so liz went ahead and sent me a copy of the chart but then she also sent an extra one so stay tuned to the end of the video and i'm gonna give away this extra chart so if anyone wants to stitch along use liz's colors or my colors or anyone else's pick your own then you can join on in okay so let's talk quilting for a minute i went yesterday to over-the-top quilting which is my local long-arm quilt studio and i brought three projects with me um first up i brought my uh sweet home i remembered sweet home quilts um by sharon holland designs and um i loaded it up on the machine we picked pattern uh the woman and i like the woman one of the women who works at the studio she and i went going back and forth doing placement and just doing a bunch of different stuff with how we were gonna lay out this design on my quilt because it was gonna be one of the computerized design so you have to do some setup like on the machine to um you know to have it quilt the way you want right and we were going back and forth back and forth with some different options and we finally got it where we wanted and hit go and then i snapped a picture and posted on my instagram yay quilting today and then i stood up to kind of watch it finish its first row and realized that the row was going to end about 10 inches short of the edge of my quilt meaning it thought my quilt was 55 inches when really my quote was 65 inches and i realized that in all of our back and forth we had started over one last time and we hadn't updated the width and length of my quilt so we got the pattern exactly how we wanted it except for the wrong dimensions and there was just no way to fix it because it was an offset pattern and like it just never would have lined up and so um luckily the woman there was a few people working that day and they took my quilt we took my quilt off the machine and a few people started working on picking that first row of quilting but it was a kind of star pattern where there was a lot of criss-cross of the machine stitching and so it was a lot of unpicking and a lot of difficult unpicking and so um while the quilt shop employees were working on that i loaded up my second two projects um with the hopes that maybe by the time i was done with those they would have that unpicked and i'd be able to load it up and finish pulsing but unfortunately it just like didn't happen so luckily um they're gonna quilt it for me this week and i'll get to go pick it up hopefully um maybe by friday so i don't have that to show you except for you know that picture of it sitting on the quilting machine looking so happy and ready to be quilted but it's okay um but i did finish two other things so the first thing i finished was this table runner see if i can lean back far enough almost um this is my boo table runner done with some spider web quilting which i just absolutely love how that turned out um i got the binding sewn on by machine uh yesterday and the backing has another one of the fabrics from the line that i love it's just all these little like word search and little tiny halloween illustrations and then i didn't have quite enough so i added in some of the black skeletons from the front and this is just gonna sit on my dining room table um this fall because i just think it's so cute so that's one of my finished items okay and then the next thing that i quilted and i was able to quilt the table runner and what i'm about to show you side by side all as one piece and then just cut it up later which was excellent and save time um but i wanted to make this zip it up case i think i showed you guys this in hall a few weeks ago this is another by annie pattern and i made the big size and it's kind of like two project bags side by side in one zippered case that's how i'm viewing it and how i'm making it and so i needed to quilt a big chunk of fabric for the interior and the lining um and it was just easier to do on the long arm since i already had to quilt the table runner and the sizes matched up i just quilted my big piece and then cut it up and i started assembling my zip it up now it's not done so this isn't a fully finished object but i'll show you what i have so far so um i i basically i don't have a 40 inch zipper i had to order one so that's the only reason i can't finish the edges in the interior but i quilted i don't even know if you can see my quilting but i quilted these little hexagons all over it and on one side there is a zipper pocket and the front is nothing oh there's threads and hair and everything on this um i was able to attach the handle so it'll have a handle like this and then on the inside oh it's upside down um on the inside there is a mesh pocket uh wait am i oh i don't can't see what i'm doing so there's a mesh pocket right here and then there's a vinyl pocket on this side um that are i think they're 12 by 14 12 by 13 or maybe 11 by 13. so big enough to fit a big full-size um chart and project so i can put my stuff inside of it um yeah so basically what i have left to do is attach the zipper and bind the edges and then there's a center facing that covers up the edges of the mesh and the vinyl that goes through the center so and then i'll have my little finished fancy project bag that matches my travel bag so i'm very excited about this um and if anyone likes to make bags this pattern is really pretty easy zip it up um i put this together i mean i quilted the fabric on the long arm which saved a lot of time um and then i cut everything out and put this all together in about two hours last night so just need to get the zipper in the mail so i can finish everything up but i'm very excited this is like the world's fanciest project bag but um i don't know i just kind of wanted a match set when i go to the retreat in like two weeks when am i going three weeks oh and i guess i should mention i mean this i think i've talked about this in my um travel bag video but uh my travel bag was made out of the same lori holt floral from the flea market line and then the inside the lining is the cheater print from the flea market line so okay so um i mentioned that i started a new quilt at 11 pm last night so um i had bought a pack a charm pack of kitty corn from moda which is all of like just the vintage um halloween stuff and so i bought a charm pack and i knew i wanted to make like a little small wall hanging and i've been looking up different like quilt blocks to make using a charm pack and i decided to do a four patch so all i'm doing is pairing up my charm pack squares um and then just doing a simple four patch with two contrasting fabrics and so what i'm gonna do i'm kind of basing this on the moda quilt kit that's being offered with kitty corn which i'll put a picture of here which is like a big full-size quilt um and i knew i didn't have enough fabric and i wasn't gonna make the big full version but i kind of took that idea so i'm making these four square blocks but i'm gonna set them on point um so it's a similar vibe to um the moda version so i'm gonna set these on point and then for my alternate fabric i got um the light colored candy corn fabric so it'll be all of these set on the ground uh it'll be all of these with these as the alt with the candy corn as the alternating squares and then i think i showed this but i got the kitty corn panel so this big one is the one designed to go on the big like quilt kit i believe um that moda sells but the the panel comes with these two smaller guys and so one of these i am going to cut out an applique onto my little four patch um so so stinking cute so yeah that is my plan and i just couldn't resist last night i got this fabric in the mail yesterday um and so i was laying out all my charm squares and pairing them up and i was like let me just sew a couple uh so i might work on that somewhere today i have never done applique really uh i think i mentioned that somebody gave me a great um wedding quilt um [Music] it's like somebody gifted me a wedding quilt a few weeks ago and i was talking about applique and now i've picked this project where i'm gonna have to applique this cat so i started binge watching all kinds of applique videos on youtube um to get a feel for how everyone does it and the problem is there aren't that many videos for like big pieces of applique like there's tons for just like normal small applique blocks but i'm like what about for when you're applique a big old piece um so i'll figure it out but if anyone has any videos or tips they recommend send them my way um yeah so that's my next quilt project and you might be like liz don't you have like eight other quilts in progress that you could work on i do yep you're correct but i want to do this one so that is everything that i stitched on or quilted on this week um so i got a little bit of happy mail i got a thank you note from kayla thank you kayla um i want to eat all of these macarons i had never had a macaron until 2014 at a friend's very fancy bridal shower and i was like why have i never had one of these before they're excellent so did anybody want the history of elizabethan can stitch in macarons because you got it no nobody wanted that uh i also as i mentioned got a little package from hello from liz matthews with um the after the rain chart which why don't we just go ahead while we're talking about that and let's do a giveaway for this right now um if you would like to win after the rain by hello from liz matthews please be a subscriber to my channel like the video and leave a comment and in the comment just say after the rain that's what i'll use um to know that you want to enter um and as a bonus just if you want to have something to put in your comment tell me which one of your charts is your favorite from either her or kathy barracks releases they're all amazing um i think besides after the rain uh my personal favorite was kathy's autumn pendrum so good um and then liz's oh shoot what was it called it's the two little pumpkins the little uh spooky and bright is that what she called it i can't remember now i feel like it had the word bright in it i'll put the picture up it's so stinking cute so um anyways uh yeah so leave a comment if you want to be entered to win after the rain okay and then i have some haul i got this um kitty corn fabric from uh fat quarter shop and i got a piece of the black gingham to use as the binding for my little mini quilt and then i just got a piece of um kona snow solid just in case i wanted to use like a solid fabric for the offset squares but i think i'm going to use the candy corn fabric so i got those from fat quarter shop and then i also saw that they had these in stock so this is a riley blake taylor's clapper and this is just a heavy piece of wood um [Music] this is one of those things similar to the by annie stiletto if you know what that is which is like a little sharp sewing tool it's one of those things that like i know exists and i know people like them and they say they make sewing and stuff easier but i'm kind of like i don't need it i don't need it i'm you know i'm fine as is and then you get it and you're like oh yeah this is great why haven't i ever bought this product so this taylor scrapper what you do when you iron your your seams you lay this on your seam and it like sucks the heat out of the seam and your seams um not dry like as they cool off like they are completely flat and i've seen it you know obviously lori holt uses them in all our videos um like kimberly at fat corner shop uses these and so i finally bought one cause i saw them in stock and i was like yes let me just grab one and i used it four times last night pressing four seams on these little blocks and why have i never used one of these before this is amazing my blocks are flat and like crisp um [Music] it does add time you know you gotta sit there for five seconds and let it you know it's not just like press move on press move on so like i kind of wish i didn't know how good it is because it probably will slow me down a little bit on blocks because i'm going to want to use this on every single seam iron but it makes everything so flat and perfect so if you're like a nitpicky perfectionist sewer like i am just grab one of these they're great so anyways that's my sales pitch on taylor i loved it in case you can't tell okay so the other stuff i got from back i had a big box from back quarter shop um they had rfil thread i think it's like the notion of the month or something that's like 20 off so i got four different neutrals that all look the same but you know um i love a good neutral thread so i got four of those and then i got some heat n bond like oh no oh no it's fine okay i'll finish my sentence i got heat n bond light the word sewable just threw me off because i was like no it's supposed to be fusible it is hot heat and bond light sewable iron not adhesive okay it's fine i just was like did i buy sew-in no thank you i need iron on um so this is what was recommended by most videos for the applique um so i got this for my kitty cat applique um and then i got a couple of these tins because i'm just obsessed with them these are little metal tins from moda um they're just so cute i think i'm gonna use a couple of them as gifts i bought a couple others too so i have a little stash so i don't know i just love them and then the last thing i got was my pre-order for little sweetheart by laundry basket quilts and i haven't unwrapped it but i think you can see it is just the most over-the-top girly pink deliciousness fabric i love it i pre-ordered this like six months ago um i forgot to be honest and now i'm very glad i did because it's here and i don't know what i'm gonna make but i will find something beautiful to make with this fat quarter bundle so i got that in the mail okay that's all my haul um i wanted to mention that two people from last week's giveaway have not emailed me so let's see i think it's christine king and kim whiting um you both won needleminders last week so i'll go comment on your comment but if you watch this video please email me at the email address listed below and let me know you want your needleminder if i don't hear from you guys by next week i'll just give away those two to somebody else so yeah that's the giveaway um comment below to enter for after the rain um other than that what else do i have to talk about uh wedding updates do i have any wedding updates i decided i want to hire a wedding planner that's the update for this week i had been making progress on where i wanted to get married i thought well i had i picked um well i had picked the win um the win las vegas and i had been emailing with the wedding coordinators and the catering managers and doing all that stuff and i was getting quotes and i was getting overwhelmed because it's like one thing to talk about like your budget but then when you actually start seeing like actual real quotes even though they're like reasonably within the budget like i still am like oh my god this is so much money um and so then i started thinking about like you know i'm basing my decision on the win just on like you know internet research and looking at photos and looking at like other people's wedding photos who have gotten married there which is great i think that's like a good thing to do but i'm also like i could be missing out on so many other options i just don't even know about so i started researching wedding planners and i've emailed a couple to be like hey you know help me decide if this is the right venue like here's what i want here's what i'm looking for this is the site like you know so anyways um i think i'm gonna go ahead and like hire somebody just because you know i'm not from there it's destination and i think it'll just be easier to have somebody it's like a point of contact who does las vegas weddings all the time so that's my plan and that's like feeling a little like like a little bit of relief off of me just to like kind of let somebody else be the main person researching and presenting options rather than me doing it with rob um so i think that'll be easier so that's the small amount of progress i've made um the other thing i started kicking around is really wanting to do a wedding quilt and not just like a wedding quilt for us um like for our bed or you know i mean i i do want that but i think i want a quilt literally at our wedding and so i've seen some pictures which i'll insert here as examples um of people who hang a quilt behind the altar basically behind like the minister who's marrying them so you're standing in front of the quilt while you get married and and i cynthia like i was texting my sisters about it and one of my sisters was like that doesn't really seem to fit your like fancy sunset vegas vibe and i was like yeah i could see that except a quilt can be anything you want it to be it doesn't have to be like a traditional irish chain quilt right like it can be anything um and like you can see in the examples like you know there's all kinds of different ways to do that so i don't know i just like have that in the back of my head and i don't even know what the logistics would look like of you know bringing it there setting it up making sure it looks nice and not janky and but you know the whole thing but again i'm gonna hire a wedding planner so maybe that's somebody else's job and i just make the quilt so i don't know i have that in my head so as we get farther along in the process and i know like where we're getting married and my colors and the whole thing you know um i'll probably be thinking about that more so anyways that's the wedding update i have this week um anything else i don't think so uh i have a million other things i want to make maybe i'll have a halloween quilt for you next week i don't know we'll see um thank you guys so much for joining me this week and i will see you next sunday for another flosstube video have a good week bye
