we've got this piece of furniture and this Airbnb bedroom and this piece of furniture is going in that Airbnb but first it needs a little bit of love [Music] hey everyone welcome to Furniture flipping teacher I'm Lauren and we picked this piece up at an estate sale it was listed at a hundred but we talked him down to fifty dollars I think that this is going to just really bring the Airbnb bedroom together if I plan with this flip is very simple and it won't take a long time but it's going to completely transform the look of it as always we are going to start by giving this piece a nice clean and I am going to be using my Simple Green [Music] thank you [Music] foreign [Music] so we got all that dirt and grime and all those oils off of the surface this is what was on that piece so if you didn't clean this would be underneath your paint which would be really hard for it to adhere nicely next though I'm going to just take some clean fresh water and do one rinse just to make sure we got all the dirt off but then also any leftover cleaning residue as well thank you [Music] [Music] next it's time to Prime but I don't want to prime or paint the legs so I'm going to unscrew those real quick and then I'm going to prime it I'm hoping that these legs are solid wood so I could sand back this original finish and then stain them with a darker wood tone a lot of this piece seems to be not wood so that is why I'm just unsure about these being what it looks like they're solid wood from this top here so we'll hope that just stands right off [Music] going to be using some Kilz primer here it is a stain blocking primer but it's also a bonding primer which is what we're really going for it's oil based but I just enjoy the ease of the spray can primer and this is what they had at Home Depot so I just went with it and then of course protecting my lungs this is super important when you're using like aerosol cans like this or if you're spraying your furniture with paint that way you're just protecting yourself and making sure you're staying healthy good foreign [Music] well this is a perfect example do what I say not what I do I I totally was planning to sand it I think I was just like getting into it moving a little too quick for my own good um I'm not gonna I'm not gonna sand since we're here now I think what will happen is that the paint will just oops dang it the paint will just bond to the primer oops so since I forgot to sand the credenza I guess I'll just do all my sanding on the legs like I told you guys I'm going to see what's underneath this little coating here that made it look like the blonde and thinking it's solid wood so we're gonna go for it I'm gonna use a 120 grit so I don't go too crazy and ruin any of the curves I've also got my sponge sand pad from surf prep to go onto my sander so that it can help me around those curves as well [Music] foreign [Music] looks like I was able to get solid wood legs this one little foot did pop off but what I'm planning is just to glue it back on there that way looks like that but first i'm going to stain these to stain the legs I'm going to be using Lily Moon's Old Smoky Gel Stain my favorite color is the Tennessee whiskey and that's what I'm going to be putting on these legs it should soak it up really nice and be a nice warm Brown [Music] oh [Music] now that the legs are stained this primer is dry so before we paint I always like to go ahead and do a little light sanding with a very fine or fine rad pad which is basically a super thin sponge sandpaper and all we're going to do is move it across the surface we're not looking to get rid of any of the primer we're really just looking to smooth out any imperfections get rid of any dust that could have landed on there when it was drying and then I'll wipe it back with my microfiber cloth so if you've been around a while and you've seen any of the Airbnb content you probably guessed what color we're painting this guy I went and actually had a custom color made with the bare chalk paint because I ran out of my Beyond paint for this color and this was kind of a last minute decision to paint this so I didn't want to paint it with my wall paint because latex paint isn't the greatest but I know that bear has chalk paint so this is only twenty dollars at Home Depot you can have them make any color so I color matched it to the blue color that is on the accent wall in the bedroom I just got this made this morning so it should be pretty mixed in nicely and then we're gonna roll it on why not I like to line my What's this called again oh yeah my paint tray with foil so that it's really easy clean up once I'm done just crumple it up and toss it and I've still got my tray here that I can reuse again and I don't have to buy all of those all the time I don't believe I'll be using all of this for this little piece here I've also got my zebra round brush for the creases and crevices that the roller won't reach so that is another thing that you want to have if you're rolling on if you've got like different Corners typically the roller is not going to do a very good job of getting in there so great to have a roller and a brush and zebra they're just really great brushes that help your paint go on super smooth [Music] [Music] first coat is done and this paint does have an hour dry time and then a two hour recoat time so we've got to wait at least that long and then we'll do coat number two [Music] dry overnight and it's time for the coat number two before I do that though I want to smooth everything out everything's pretty smooth but there are just a couple spots where there's some roughness so I'm going to take my rad pad the same one that I used between primer and paint and then just smooth everything out and wipe the dust back with my microfiber cloth okay [Music] now that we've got the coats of paint all on there and they're dry I'm going to go ahead and put the legs back on and then we're going to do a top coat but since these are dried everything's dry just figured it'd be easier to go ahead and put these on instead of using my painters triangles so they're just going to screw right back in to where the came from [Music] I am just kind of going through the things that I have already so I decided to grab out my Rust-Oleum chopped paint matte clear coat so I'm just mixing it up really well because it's kind of been sitting for a while and you want to really do this with any top coats or paints just to make sure that all the qualities of the product are mixed nicely together you don't really want to shake it especially top coats because it can really cause bubbles in there so stirring is great I just get packs of these 30 counts of these stir sticks at Menards so any hardware store will probably have those and then I'm going to use my zebra brush to apply the top coat on the top and all over it [Music] thank you I'm getting a little bit frustrated with this piece I I always think things are going to be easy flips you guys know but my top coat is not cooperating so this is actually the third attempt here in just a minute I've top coated it and then I painted over it because it was blotchy and then I top coated it and then it was pretty streaky again so now I've painted over it one last time hopefully and I'm going to try and use this blue sponge hopefully that can help me get a little bit of a more even coverage and to help it not be so streaky and cloudy and I'm also going to add a little bit of my paint to my top coat to see again if that will help anything typically lately especially I've been spraying on with all-in-one paint and so I haven't really had to worry about top coat too much or when I spray the top coat it's not as tricky but since this is not an all-in-one paint I do need to top coat it everywhere else is pretty decent but this top is just giving me a hard time [Music] it worked yes there's still like tiny tiny streaks but nothing's ever going to be completely streak free if you're not using a sprayer but that totally worked so I did two different things I added a little bit of my paint color to my top coat separate from the containers that they both come in and then I used that blue sponge so I'll link the blue sponge down below it is something that I actually forgot that I had again I don't do this method very often so when I remember that I had that on hand I was like wait I'll try this so I'm so glad that that worked basically a streak free top and it looks so much better than it was looking I was about ready to kick this thing to the curb but this piece is finished some of you guys might not like it but I'm not putting the glass back in for a couple of reasons one it's an Airbnb and they could probably easily get broken and two they are really dirty and they have a lot of residue from different things on them so I just don't really want to mess with them and I personally like it without the glass let's get this in the Airbnb here is the credenza in its spot [Music] s so here it is in the space at first I thought it was going to be a little bit too small but I think what we're going to end up doing is putting a plant here and here or at least on one of the sides and that'll kind of even things out underneath the TV it'll be like a taller plant stand or maybe like a vase something just to kind of balance out this area but I think that this is just a really awesome piece to have here again another Personal Touch from me that I am able to just put different Furniture in here in the Airbnb so I love how it turned out let us know down in the comments what you think about the credenza like I said at the beginning it was a really simple flip but it made a really big difference like going from before and after like it's not even looking like the same piece aside from the shape foreign so you guys can't see make sure and watch our very next video because that is going to be the entire reveal of the entire bedroom and I am so excited with how it turned out you guys it is an absolute crazy transformation from the before and after so get subscribed down below and we will have much more content coming for you soon thanks so much for watching and I'll see you on the flip side [Music] thank you [Music]
