you got to improvise to survive [Music] [Applause] Oh [Music] I ran to a good buddy of mine Richard mr. mad Mick 15 YouTube channel and he does a lot of prepping videos and I've known the guy for a long time and we got to talking about flex seal he was using it on ar-15 magazines checking it out trying it out and with that it just gave me an idea to try this on a number of different items so we're going to take flex seal and we're going to take the aerosol kind they do make it in a liquid form that you can dip in they make it even in a tape and we're going to use it for different survival situations how it could assist and in plus just assist in regular shooting sports so let's see let's check it out now pick this up at my local Walmart it was about 18 dollars and some change it's not cheap but it goes a long way in fact this is my second can I haven't opened it the first one though did all the different experiments that we're going to show and still has more to go there's a bazillion different uses for it it's great just to have around the house anyway one of the big things that it will do is to link to repair leaky pipes and does it very effectively but that's one thing we're going to do but we also want to look at some other options now here you have some PVC pipe and I've drilled a hole right here at the bottom this will simulate a leak to report some water you can see that it just comes right out so we're gonna take our flex seal you'll notice that the hole it just covers it up we're going to let it dry okay we've led this on for about an hour right here's the hole that I drilled we're just going to see if it'll hold that water yes it is very good I didn't plug it sometimes you can put a piece of tape over it and then use flex seal but the hole was the size where I could fill it with the Flex ale and it's known to do that so that's one of the best reasons to have someplace seal around here's a range bag that I've had a number of years from la police gear and I thought it would be a good test sample there no grommets on the bottom and I went ahead and put masking tape all around it just to help protect it if it gets a little bit on it doesn't matter but this little panels but I want to mainly cover [Music] we're going to test set for 24 hours I kind of put it on thick we'll probably do another coat then I decided to hang it up just to let it drip down so it doesn't seep into the bag now we've let this set now for about a week you don't have to let it sit that long but of course this take just pull it off you know just like the rubberized bottoms on a lot of backpacks and things like that even tacks like this range bags and this is going to keep that moisture out of that out of your range bag so to me that is a great way to be able to help seal that up and you don't see any difference in it it looks like it really should fit there so just masking it off makes a big difference and of course the flexibility of this is going to be nice I mean it's going to hold up well it's not going to crack and if you ever need to you can touch it up again with a backpack or something like that it's easy to do just mask it off or you could cover most of it but I really like just the bottom it's kind of a rigid piece anyway that stays kind of flat so I don't really have to worry about it but I really like that now we're accustomed for the ball Capron see if we make this waterproof it's got some small little holes which all the ball caps have I'm gonna put some tape under it a little masking tape and we're going to see if we can get this thing to be waterproof it'll probably seal these holes but just for good measure we're going to cover them up got the tape installed now to keep the form I'm gonna put this plastic in here just to see if I can keep the shape of the Hat and this is from gun mag warehouse.com guys these are great hats and one of the reasons why I chose it of course the black also helps [Music] all right we gave it a pretty good coat we're going to let it set 24 48 hours and do it again it's been 24 hours and it's looking actually pretty good we're going to code through looks like some of the soft textures still there so one more coat the Hat still retains its flexibility and it moves of course it is called flake seal for that reason but definitely it's not cracking it's not splitting and that's pretty cool one thing that I was going to try was over a pair of boots or pair of shoes which I think would also be the same kind of properties you'd get with the Hat you know just like a pair of rubber boots that you put over you can cover your standard boots with that I just didn't have any old shoes that I was willing to use so but definitely it would be a huge advantage of course with the laces and things like that that could be a problem if you take those old rubber boots though and you get a hole in it I'd be great to coat it with a little flex seal now here a couple of old tools that I've just masked off and then sprayed with the flex seal good handle for both and you know it can go with any kind of tool anything that you grab your hand with this can really just help seal it and that also just gives you a really nice grip in fact because of this wood I could have gone ahead and sealed the whole thing and it would probably help to even protect the wood also protect your hand you know sometimes it's really difficult to get a hold of a plastic screwdriver and turn it if it really gets tough and this gives it a very nice soft coating on it now here I have a tarp and of course tarps are somewhat flexible this is a canvas tarp but it has a nick right here a little hole and it's coming frayed and so I think that's a prime candidate the great thing is the flexibility of the flex seal is going to help so that doesn't come loose but you can take an expensive tarp like this and repair it or even plastic tarps would work as well tents things like that now this has only been sitting on here for about 30 minutes but it's already sealed in this area what I'd like to do is maybe put a couple more coats on there just to really give it a good seal but just like the Hat and how flexible it is same thing with this we have three mags here we have a Magpul PMAG we have one of the usgi this is one of the okay mags from speed feed and then we have a hex mag we're just going to try each one and we're going to spray on one coat once you spray on the coat you're supposed to let it set for 24 to 48 hours before you put another coat on it one of the things you have to do is to clean it I took some carburetor cleaner just to get all the oil also remove the base plates not on the usgi mag but on the hex mag and the PMAG now we've taped these off right where the mag will comes so it won't interfere it says to hold it between 8 to 12 inches away so we're just going to do a sweeping motion and while we're at it we're going to try some of the rust-oleum leak seal this is supposed to be a flexible rubber coating as well and we're going to check it out alright we're going to let that dry now Richard told me that when he first did this it was pretty thick on here it's kind of bubbled up you kind of think oh man what have I done but once it dries it will adhere to the polymer or the steel the metal so we'll see we're going to let these set now we're going through our second coat of flex seal we've let these set for 48 hours again 8 to 12 inches out [Music] tell you right now you don't to get this on your hands it takes a lot to get it off and we also have the one mag with the leak seal from rust-oleum there's a completely different smell to it and we've got it propped up we're just going to let them dry another 24 hours at least all right we've got two coats on here now just trying to see it does have it does lose some of the detail which I expect for it to be a little thick it needs to be on the metal it really has some nice texturing and also on the hex mag so we're going to put one more coat on here just for good measure okay we have three coats now and it's been 24 hours since the third coat so we're going to take this tape off and we're going to just examine what we've got here I have noticed there's a little bit of residue here at the top we'll see if that affects it I'm sure we can clean that off if we need to when the hex mag I had the top covered so it's not going to have any problems I probably was going to do it over again I would definitely cover this all the way up to the lips okay here we have the Flex seal on the left and the PMAG standard on the right definitely a little more thickness you can see a little detailed loss and then you've got the rubberized coating all around it much more aggressive than your PMAG in fact when I first coated this a couple of times I was kind of thinking well I don't know that it even is going to make that much of a difference because pmax you know you got a pretty good grip on here there's a lot of texturing but definitely a lot smoother I mean you're going to your thumbs being stopped a lot of resistance here not so much of course testing it in the field is going to be the real trick but so far I think this has really turned out well here with the hex mag definitely a big difference the hex patterns really stand out on the flex seal and the hex I like the hexes because you can really grab hold of it but this is a much more aggressive texturing I think it's going to make a difference for sure now the usgi mags definitely I knew they'd be an advantage you know your standard aluminum here is very smooth just have the groups you can get a hold of it but not all that aggressive whereas with the flex seal you're getting a much bigger advantage you can grip that someone's like an over mold but not as much give is just a little bit tacky I think over the next day or so it's going to chill out I think it's 48 hours for complete curing and this has only been 24 but after about 30 minutes are able to touch it so I'm really thinking that this is going to be a huge advantage these are the sure feed mags from okay industries and I think that's a really big advantage to attach that but again we'll see and then here is the leak seal for rust-oleum I know that because I put my thumb hook when I first did it right there so not as aggressive definitely more smooth finish I did notice when I was pulling the tape off that a little bit of the edges start to come in fact you can see where I start to push down it's going to kind of that's going to wear down quick a lot quicker then your flex seal here we had the flex seal pushing down on it on this border and not really getting any kind of wear so I'm thinking already that the flex seal is going to be the way to go over the leak seal one of the reasons why I grabbed the league seal was I was at Home Depot they don't carry flex seal they carry the leak seal I think Lowe's carries the flake seal and Walmart and that's where I got this now I didn't mask off the ends for the base plate go so I want to test that and we'll see what kind of findings we have a little bit of resistance but locks right in no problem whatsoever here with the PMAG same thing goes right in there we go okay glad to get that seal on the bottom especially when you're grabbing from the bottom right in here that will give you a little more so I think the base plates especially on the pmags of the hex mags gives you a little gripping surface there's one of the big test is will it go into a plate carrier and will it interfere no problem inserting it only goes to the about an inch and a half above if you wanted you could mask that off the big thing is is getting just this area but no is not really any resistance and these are pretty tight mag carriers these are g-code softshell scorpions love these mag carriers here we've got just our standard mags yeah a little more resistance with the Flex seal but not much but I'll tell you what you're grabbing hold of that magazine with the flake seal and it's a better grip the big question is is how durable is it I've had this on now for about three weeks we have the Flex in here and then we had the rust-oleum here one of the things about the rest oleum of course you've got it next to this metal it's it's going to give and it's going to scuff but you know you can always recode it and that's one of the things about this the flex seal is definitely harder definitely more attached to the metal here on these polymer mags it adheres to the plastic a little better but you're still going to get somewhere no doubt but it'll give you a lot of advantages in between time you know a little ease of just kind of giving it a soft coat of the touch up spots would not be a big deal and you've already usually like I've got three coats on here already it really has a great feel to it especially on these metal mags I feel like that's the biggest advantage not the slick here but you still have the slickness at the top that is really nice about their usgi mags because they kind of go in easier smoother and yet you got this at the bottom kind of the best of both worlds even taking your old a2 ar-15 pistol grip with that coating on it there's a little more texturing not a huge advantage but it is something or whatever you want to coat like that gives just a little bit more texture guys the sky's the limit there are so many different things you can do just use your imagination if there's something that you want to seal whether it's to keep moisture out whether it's to give you more grip ability whether it's to you know to seal a leak this is just to me a great way to do it and it's going to be pretty durable now one thing I'm going to do is we're going to go through this and I'm going to test some of this stuff out a little more and we're going to see how it holds up in the long run as far as the rust-oleum leak seal we'll check it out I'm not as pleased with the leak seal I really think the Flex Hill is a much better product for what we're doing here but the leak seal is definitely be able to take care of a lot of that so if you have comments or ideas in the bottom or if you've had experience with leak seal please leave it down in the comments below it's just to me a really cool product again this is not from flex seal this is not a commercial for flex seal I have no connection whatsoever I mainly just wanted to test it out and see what it would do and guys will just tell you thumbs way up in a survival situation being able to improvise can either save your life or can make the job a heck of a lot easier you know taking items and using them not necessarily for their intended use but to be able to use it for multiple things and that's really important you know if you're preparing or you're thinking about survival it can be overwhelming and being able to have redundancy and multiple uses for an item is just smart whether it's paracord wd-40 or flex seal just keep that thinking cap on be strong be of good courage god bless america long live the Republic Randall good buddy mine Richard hid whether it's flex seal put it on the right way I'm singing in the rain yeah man this hat I'll be singing because it's going to keep my head dry [Music] [Music] you [Music]
