what's going on guys tonight we are going to be working on Project NC we're finally diving into this thing we are going to be addressing some of the known failure points and um let's get to [Music] [Music] it all right so for those of you who don't know I have traded in my 94 turbo na Miata uh for a 2013 power retractable hardtop Club Miata uh we've already done a set of these rpf1s cuz the car did come with some M mismatch Wheels um so that was one of the first things I addressed but now um the whole the whole purpose of this car is for it to be my kind of fun daily SL backup track car as well so this thing I do plan on taking this thing on track you know dep depending on weather and you know you know other things I've got the EXO set which doesn't exactly work every single time if there's a chance of rain I'm probably not going to want to drive it so this is going to be my backup car so to address a few of the kind of known flaws with the NC uh for that see track time I've got a couple of things here um so one of the things that I've actually seen videos of these things failing on track is the uh the the front the wheel bearings um and if you if you know um about the the mazas of this era they actually share a lot of parts with the uh with the Mazda RX8 which is a little bit heavier than the NC so these are actually OEM Mazda RX8 bearings they're uh they're actually a little bit stronger and designed to hand to be able to handle some of the extra weight from the RX8 uh oh imp part numbers right here see if you can get that there it is so I've got a couple of those bearings that I just want to throw in um this this car's got like 100,000 M on it so I and and you know I I plan on putting this thing on track I've seen these things fail uh you know probably with less miles than what I have so that's that's the first thing I want to address um second thing I want to address is that this is actually something that's required for spec Miata for the NC is the uh the expansion tank for the for the coolant they are brittle and plastic and over time they break and you'll leak all your coolant before you even realize you have a problem on track and and then your your engine's toast so got the Moroso aluminum uh coolant expansion tank uh I did end up buying a little CS CSF um cap as well with I think the stock one's uh 14 lbs uh this is 20 um little bit extra spring pressure there and while I'm in there I'm just going to do a set of brakes and some OEM pads for right now this this was just included with the car I probably will end up upgrading the the brakes at some some point I don't necessarily want to go with like a big brake kit I'll probably do something like one of those those kits that just adapts like willwood Dino proo calipers to the to the OEM rotors cuz it's a it's a decent Siz rotor I mean the car is not that heavy um and the brakes are the brakes are pretty stout from the factory so I think just being able to like swap hot swap pads with the willwood calipers I think sounds like a good idea for me um but yeah so tonight we're doing bearings expansion tank brakes and pads let's get to it let's get this thing in the [Music] air the first step is to remove the calipers and the rotors to get access to the hubs I'm glad the rotors and hubs are getting replaced because they've seen better [Music] days when working on not so perfect cars like this penetrant and heat are very useful heat expands metal so make sure that you focus your torch on the knuckle in this [Music] case a slide hammer is needed for this job it's one of those tools that rarely get used but your thrilled you have it when you need [Music] it [Music] you know sometimes these things can be a real [Music] [Music] nightmare got it [Music] once you've got the old bearing out it's just a matter of reversing everything you've done with the new [Music] one the torque spec on the four Hub bolts is 60 [Music] ft-lb [Music] I would have loved to painted the calibers at this point but I've got to drive the car home tonight that'll come at another [Music] time this is [Music] next up is the maroso expansion tank using a fluid transfer pump first I emptied the OEM plastic [Music] tank to avoid getting fired from the slip angle because of cooling on Quinn's garage floor I like to clamp some bolts in the disconnected [Music] [Music] hoses the rest of the install is very straightforward on the tank it fits in all the OEM mounting [Music] [Music] locations [Music] don't look so excited for Pete's sake that's it dud that that slide hammer got me that was a that was a tough one you I don't know you weren't here for that no I was off somewhere else doing something that was very important yeah I was sweating but that's it I love these like little OEM plus mods um with the uh the RX8 wheel bearing being a little bit bit more of an upgrade than the uh than the NC Miata um but it's OEM I love that but it just can't help but ask the question why didn't Mazda just Beef It Up from the beginning yeah I don't know I don't know the answer to that question but rx8s don't have that failure point I mean the real cool thing about it is that it is mostly an RX8 suspension I know even coilovers are interchangeable which although the spring rates are different though but and the yeah valving for those spring rates is different the shock travel is shorter yes so shorter wheelbase shorter shock travel but the RX8 boys and girls is the best handling car in the world yeah and just imagine that with the same suspension just a little lighter yeah fight me on it fight you on the I think the I think the NC has potential to be like one of the ultimate driving machines yeah I got to get some different suspension I think it's a little too harsh for the street the ones that are on here I've been doing a lot of research and I want to try to nice like dual purpose and I think good to Win Racing might have a dual purpose coil over setup that's a set of race Cony shocks that have adjustable par but they use like the the stock top hats and everything too I all I'm hearing is that we should both get olens yeah ol I need ol for the RX they're the best they're the best for these things too they're just I know sounds like we might fifth of the price of the car no I no it's olens are awesome they are a higher spring rate though so I don't know I don't know I think I want something that's like good on stre valving yeah it is I mean obviously spring R to a degree but y shock valving matters the most yeah but yeah I mean uh these parts I'm really excited to get these on here um also we're we're making some changes to the website we're going to start adding some parts we're actually going to I know we've talked about it in the past but like a lot of these things yeah a lot of these things that we're going to review and install on our own cars we're going to end up selling on the on the websites anything that we do from here on forward cuz we have to do something with this website and we have to try to grow our Channel a little bit um and that's a good way to to help support it so I mean we're not looking the we're not going to be marking stuff up the the pricing will be competitive but it's just something to help fund the projects that we have lined up for this year but at the same time it's like we're speaking to the products that we're running so it's going to be more of a a niche website in the sense that you're not going to have you know Meg and coil overs you're not going to have any of the the the millions of different offerings that's all cheap crap stuff that we would never even bother with so we're really only putting up the stuff that we're actually you know we believe in and we're going to run in our own cars anyways and we'll have photo and video of these products too so yeah all ties together hand in hand baby we also sell sweatshirts too this things we have Appel you can grab some sweatshirts or t-shirts that that also help support us and we greatly appreciate it and well we have the S2000 ap2 tail lights up there oh yeah everybody wanted them we got them we have a few sets in house they're in stock so check that out anything else no that's it for this one that's it for this one there'll be more um this is uh this project is just getting started um I have a lot of I have a lot in the works for this thing and it's almost February yep that means that we have about a month and a half two months left to Winter we shouldn't say the month cuz it's probably not going to be February when this video goes up that groundhog better not see his shadow oh no but I'm saying for when we can start doing battles oh yeah I'm pumped we're going to have a lot of slow car drag racing and Toge batt it's going to be awesome can't wait yeah 1320 video is going to love it we're doing a whole different this is a whole new level of rer here toate toate challenge man yep no yeah yeah we're obviously not drag racers so no we are all right that's it for this one right don't you we we're dra we'll drag race our cars but we're that makes us drag racer okay we're to drag racers all right that's it for this one [Music] done
