hello everybody we are doing joist work underneath our kitchen as you can see here we have on the far side you can see so outside see underneath the screwing in the house and my lovely lady so happy if you help me out then you have one of the main support beams that's actually under the wall that's a wall between the kitchen which is directly above us and the living room and then your joist we just did I'll explain a second and then we have our other wall support here that's between the bedroom so we did three different joists here one two and three with each of them we did the same setup this one only took two Center blocks the other ones took three took my car jack and we jacked the dead joist these joists were pretty much all the way rotten all the way back to the main support this one wasn't even touching so in each case we jacked up the dead joist not touching so that we have plenty of room so that we could slide the good one over my brother's upstairs with a level and we Jack the floors up so that they were actually bowing up a little bit then we drilled the holes slid the bolts through and and then we took the jack down so that because this joist in this old house they should be two by two by eights and these are all two by sixes so in these these joists they give about a half inch down so you Jack it up a little bit and then when you see the jack come down this wood ends up bowing down didn't do liquid nails in between like other people do I just don't see the point I'll see what the board was falling off all the while while I was liquid nailed up when we did the first one one mistake I made was don't make this mistake this choice actually wasn't bad over here but I didn't I didn't have the choice go all the way across the main beam here which is okay because now this is this the wood the other choice behind it wasn't too bad it was still still holding weight but if I could do it again I would have gone the other side of this where there wasn't a piece of wood where you can get this new joist piece all the way across the beam instead of right now it's just sistered up against the other one you are going to need a dremel tool for things like this when you're going to trim away nails so that your new joist will be able to slide back I had to trim off lots of little nails and things so that I could get these you know to slide in a dremel tool the Rotozip any type of anything that you can finally nails with and that's it cost about $140 some people use something to use a nail gun to do these it was checked out when I went up there so I used bolts it was it was about probably a half hour more work maybe more and one of the mistakes that I made was with this with this particular one I jacked both of the board's up at the same time and then I real and I started drilling holes and then I realized that I had now had two pieces of wood boat up when I actually wanted I wanted the old joist on this side on the back side to be I wanted that to be bowed up and I wanted this wood to be still so that's why you see I've got a half inch gap now because the old wood which is flush with the floor is now jacked up and bowed up and my new piece of wood is supporting the other one so open else
