it's a beautiful day here at Mount rer cic railroad so today this day of days Chris is over here making some adjustments to our big end which is ultimately going to adjust our how far this is traveling but today's big project we have to fix the spring you notice it's not sitting level it's sitting like this as well as I don't know how well the camera is going to pick it up on the left side there is supposed to be a gap there is no Gap the spring itself is riding on the spring saddle which that's not good that's no bueno it doesn't allow the spring to do this as the locomotive is going down the tracks so we got to take the spring out take that pin out pull that c that spring saddle up out of there and remachine everything so that when we set it back down we can then adjust the Bissell post up here which is constantly backing itself off we can adjust it right and get it to a point where we can actually make that quit moving but there's no sense in going after that until this is fixed because the easiest way to make sure this uh to equalize the spring wit rigging is to go until those two are relatively level with each other and they're not this one over here is down that one over there is up I WR this down remember now [Music] yumy there [Applause] fire [Music] [Music] you got room to come up [Music] go all right this one's very carefully reach in there that spring back on the yeah let me get this side while you're holding it okay got [Music] it it around the sand yeah okay watch yourself in case it drops can you yeah you got room to side shift now go a little further all right nice [Music] easy there we go you got her all right that's supposed to be yeah so what's going on is that the spring is touching here but all over here yeah and how this is supposed to be is that when you put this this in there the spring comes down and sits and then it can rock so what's going on is the spring comes up and then it's just sitting here and it's holding so the spring rigging ain't working right so that's part of our waddling going down the tracks along with the fact that you can't properly adjust the B post uh it kind of comes up on camera so what the problem is is so that this piece right here rides in this piece right here and then the spring sits on top of it and rocks this piece isn't so bad it's only got 11,000 difference this was what 19 19 one side or the other and then this one here was 94 I think yeah it was it's crazy so this side is actually deeper than this side for this SI so that was making it to where the spring was not sitting flat on top of its saddle we're going to fix that so what Chris is going to do is he's going to go over and we're going to make a new PIN because this one's as you can see seen better days and then I'm going to weld this area here up and then Chris is going to machine that mind you I'm not a welder and we're going to leave this alone because it's not that bad and then we'll put it all back together so in welding this I'm not going to weld this side I'm going to weld this side this is the side that's cut the deepest so we're going to bring this side up to match this side so that the spring says flat on its pin on its saddle like I said we're going to leave this alone cuz the the lean in it isn't so bad but we're TR to do is so to to make this brand new and right it means we're going to have to go through every single one of them on the locomotive to make every single one of them brand new and right so they're all riding the same way and at the same height and it doesn't mess with the equalization that well Baldwin States so we're not going to go fixing this to exact Baldwin spec we're just going to fix it to where the spring isn't leaned over to the inside we're going to bring it up to where it rides flat and can actually do what it's meant to do because then it's riding the same height thing near as the rest of them [Music] oh [Music] h [Music] m [Music] 2 [Music] 3 [Music] oh [Music] down [Music] oh [Music] so the people are probably curious as what's going on we have a brand new writer pen made Chris went Deluxe for the spring saddle we're going to case harden that here in a minute over here Chris has got the spring loaded in the shaper and he's getting ready to make himself the tool I built this here back up with weld yesterday so today he's going to actually cut this and make make it right just like that and then when that's all said and done we'll case harden that pin we'll put her back together run on the main line yeah tada [Music] [Music] [Music] oh [Music] [Music] [Music] a [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] yeah go bro there we go elro getting elro on don't breathe that oh [Music] go up that way we don't Brea this up above your head up above your head got a whistle B we going to let that sit there for a minute St the fire drop I grab a fire on a I don't St wire this [Music] a [Music] SC oh the place is looking better already all right so lce spring ready to go you know what I'm happy that he does so people that have been there for 30 years you all right all right Mario say where you going bud yay good go up all right straight in yeah we're going to have to actually we might miss the sand just barely up a little bit all [Music] right we can p it on yeah all right oh oh in oh [Music] see if we can get that on yeah all right there we go SL right in there I set it down make sure we don't interrupt my name all right nice and easy down yeah all right okay come back you're good take out yeah come up a [Music] little C oh my God holy [Music] good Lord we don't know crap about how to work on Steam Engines around here I'll tell you what no okay we're going to have to shove it have to shove it up oh wrong way it might not need to might not need to well we got it we got that pedestal situated better now right that goes there like these then this guy goes in here like these Hammer four sips okay now going around on this side yep I have questions okay we might have answers no we don't get it right there there we go now okay what Easter well you guys can keep working I was just going to talk while you work go ahead okay Easter bunny express yep involves Easter Bunnies unfortunately uh my has yet I I'm smelling what you're selling you're looking for a bunny no oh look at that not yet um at that other railro yeah no way I got lost on you said had more than one Flor okay letter down how to station with marble col and gold leaf it's amazing how much easier that is when it's all right right [Music] right e it's mostly from his there we go we're looking at two things they spring they cross head make sure we have no Pistons strike here make sure spring go like Dy here is God damn that's close joint right here that's free it's moving oh yeah look at that right there ni what you say that is so I will know if he takes off start shoving it forward and it starts going back that way we're good if you start steing it forward and it keeps going that way we need go we need to move it a little bit more yep yep SC SC we would call this success Mission success yay what you in there're talking we won't mess with the Bissell post until the boiler's full right so there's another several thousand lbs of weight that got to get on it first but other than that I'd say I'd say good good good I mean look at it now it used to be you could only barely get your toe underneath the pilot now the Pilot's a solid few inches off the ground yeah yes don't just strain your back what what no way for f sake we lost all that hm what we lost all that footage no oh no that's we're talking about you making it easy on yourself yeah what the hell man you're staring at the GoPro thought you lost the footage making sure you're in the shop what no way for sake like And subscribe
