hello everyone its Carrie and today I'm gonna show you five ways to use gilding flakes we're gonna use this set right here from the Hedgehog hollow January kit and I have the line and the first thing I thought of when I saw this line was he needs a gold mane a golden Mane with gilding flakes so here I am going to stamp him with versafine onyx black ink and that I'm going to emboss it with clear embossing powder and the reason I'm doing this is because I wanted those black lines to still show up when I added the gold gilding flakes and you'll see why in just a moment I'm heat setting that clear embossing powder here and you can see how beautiful and dark and black those lines are so now it's ready for our first method of using the gilding flakes and that is using a glue pen that dries tacky now this is the new bow glue pen and I thought it would work great with the gilding flakes because they go together same brand right so you'll see a lot of the products I'm using today are from Nouveau and it does work out really well with these gilding flakes so I'm just gonna take that glue pen and I'm going to draw in the lines in between those lines where I want the gilding flakes to go the most important thing to remember about this is that when you use a glue pen you want it to dry before you add the gilding flakes and this particular glue pen does dry tacky and that's just how you want it so those gilding flakes will stick right to the glue as soon as it's dry so while that's dry and I'm going to show you method number two so that we can get going here and that is to use score tape and I have the quarter inch score tape right here I'm just gonna make a couple lines just to show you how amazing those gilding flakes work with this score tape so I'm just gonna trim off those edges there so that we have it even with the card and now that that glue is dry I'm just gonna check it and make sure that it is it is ready for those buildings now before you open this jar turn off all your fans make sure the air conditioning is not blowing on your area don't sneeze don't breathe these flakes will go everywhere and I mean everywhere so they are fun to use but they are a little messy and you just have to take a little extra care to make sure that they don't go all over the place look at these big beautiful pieces that I'm getting from the top of the jar here this is a brand new jar of the golden gilding flakes so I was really excited to use it today and you can see that I'm just adding those to the mane where I added the glue and I'm burnishing them on with my finger and just with my finger for now and it just sticks beautifully and you'll see in just a moment as I clean that up the lines are gonna still show through because we did that clear embossing now I'm gonna remove the the backing from the score tape here and look at that giant piece I got it's beautiful so I just rub that on with my finger save the rest of those gilding flakes because you can reuse them it doesn't matter how small it is the gilding flakes will continue to work so I'm just gonna put those larger pieces back in the jar here and continue to burnish with my fingers and that's all you really need is just with your fingers but you'll see later I have another tool that I found works really well when I'm using these so I'll share that with you in just a moment so I'm just gonna try to clean up this area you can see that it does like to get everywhere so I'm gonna put that lid back on the jar for a moment now one trick I did find was if you have an adhesive eraser like this one then you can just go over those lines now look see the black lines then are revealed so that I have the definition of his Mane that I wanted to keep so that adhesive eraser worked really well so that I could make sure to see those lines still now I'm just adding a few more little pieces of the gilding flakes where I might have missed a spot or two and that's the beautiful thing as long as you have a tacky place you can continue to add more and more of the gilding flakes until it's fully covered so I'm going to set that aside for a moment while I show you technique number three and that is to use sticky embossing powder I have the Ranger sticky embossing powder here which I really have enjoyed using and some clear sticky ink so I'm going to take that same lyin stamp and use the clear mark embossing pad to stamp it down on some black paper and this is just black cardstock and then I'll use that sticky embossing powder over the top when you use sticky embossing powder you want to heat set it just enough so that it melts but be sure not to heat it too long because then it will lose its tackiness I know that sounds funny but that is how it works so here I'm just gonna make sure I have it all coated with that embossing powder and I'll just heat set it until it disappears on this black paper you can see that it's pretty quick to melt and then we'll leave Abby and right away we can add the gilding flakes this is a fun way to use the gilding flakes because it adds just that kind of romantic old-time gold gilding I think that's what I mean to say hopefully you understand what I mean but this is just such a fun technique you have just I mean I've just opened up a whole world of what I can stamp now and use gilding flakes it does give you a little different feeling than say gold embossing powder or something like that these gilding flakes have a little more texture to them and also I feel like they're brighter so as you see I'm just taking some of the smaller pieces and adding them to these Alliance I don't know why I did three but I was gonna turn this into a card you'll see later that I changed my mind at the end and I end up not using the to make the card instead I'm using my very favorite way which is at the end so stay tuned because that's coming up and here I have my Nouveau dual tip blender brush this is just coarse enough that it to clean off the excess gilding flakes so you can see that I'm just using it and I'm kind of using the side of it to clean off in between the main here this is a pretty detailed stamp as you can see and so having a tool like this is very helpful in getting it just the way that I want it so I'm going to continue to do this and there you have three gilded liens I feel like maybe that should be part of a song but just be glad that I'm not gonna break out into song right now instead I'm gonna put that lid back on the gilding flakes so here's the fourth way to use the gilding flakes and that's with die-cuts and double-sided adhesive here I have kind of a large roll I'm not sure the size of this roll but this is from Elizabeth craft designs and I am going to just use this on a part of this cardstock and then I have a large thanks die that I'm going to use to cut out the word thanks you can see that I'm putting it only on half of that double-sided adhesive and then I'm gonna take it to my die cut machine and die-cut it but I will leave it in the card stock instead of taking each of the individual letters out it makes it so much easier when you're adding the gilding flakes if you leave it right in the cardstock so I'm just gonna take off the release paper to reveal the sticky part of the adhesive for all of the letters and I find using this tool right here I can never remember the name of this tool but it's you know retractable craft pick there you go that's what it is the retractable craft pick is always close by when I'm crafting because I use it all the time time to add the nouveau gilding flakes and this is simple to do just put it on furnish with your fingers until it looks the way you want it to hopefully it's just that simple and I found it to be very simple this is almost foolproof so that's good and it also makes crafting really fun I am just finishing up here with the s and then I'm gonna use that blender brush to clean it up just a little bit and we'll pull each of those individual letters out and you'll see later on that I end up cutting this thanks die out of black cardstock as well so that I can use it as a shadow underneath this thanks die so I just wanted the gold gilding flakes on the bottom portion of the letters and that's why I did it like this but to use the double-sided adhesive is really great because you get a straight line right across rather than using individual glue so I really like this method quite a bit and look how beautiful this looks on the Lions that we just did really pops on this card you might be wondering well why didn't you use that to make a card I almost did I really almost did but wait until you see this last away it's probably my favorite I can't wait to play around a little more with it in order to have this video published and up in time to show you I only have done this one way with the final and fifth technique for using gilding flakes so we're going to get into it right now but look real quick I just wanted to show you how pretty that is it's pretty the last way is using water yes water so I have a thick paintbrush here and it just can be any paint brush but it's a clean paintbrush with water and I'm brushing the water on sorry I am a little bit off screen here but I wanted that water to kind of get drip down the edges a little bit and you have to work really fast you can see that it dried a little bit on the top here you have to work really fast when you're doing this method so with the water I'm gonna pour the sticky embossing powder over the top while it's wet and you can see that it sticks to the water that's why this is such a neat trick water will stick embossing powder will stick to water so then I just heat said that just until it was melted again it doesn't take very long this one took a little bit longer because obviously there's more of that embossing powder to melt and the water was still wet of course so I'm drying the paper and kind of melting that embossing powder at the same time but you'll be able to see in just a minute how we got some neat paint brush strokes on this and so it's kind of fun imagine doing just brush strokes across your card or just on one side instead of covering the whole side like I did here just paint brush strokes with water that would be really pretty so now I'm just gonna cover it with the gilding flakes nice and easy and why why can't I find a big piece like I did before so you can see I'm trying to find those bigger pieces to cover this it still didn't take very long but when you're doing a larger area of course it's gonna just take a little bit longer I am only using my fingers again to burnish this and the fun thing about this large of an area is the sticky embossing powder has a little bit of texture graininess to it so it added some fun texture to this card and I really liked it I hope you can see that in the close-up pictures at the end that it does have a little texture to it it's really pretty as I finish up adding the rest of these gilding flakes I will brush it off once again with that blender brush and this by the way if I didn't mention before this is a clean blender brush I have never used it with ink so it has no color whatsoever to the brush so you just want to make sure it's clean wouldn't that be sad if you were brushing off your project and you got some unwanted color on there yeah so I wanted to mention that it is a clean blender brush so here we go just getting that all cleaned up and look at the fun brushstrokes we got some of the fun designs with the drips down the side there I just think this technique is so fun so I'm getting this ready and now I'm going to put the final card together now any of these techniques you could use to put together your card it would be beautiful and I love them all but this is the one I decided to go with and I did back these thanks with black cardstock so that it would have a shadow and I colored the rest of the Lions face in with some colored pencils just nice and light and I white heat emboss you are roarsome and look at that see the shine on his mane on those letters and on the side I'm adding this to a top folding card just with some liquid adhesive and there is our card I decided that his nose needed a little bit of glossy accents for the shine but there it is I hope you enjoyed these five ways to use gilding flakes and that it inspires you to try one of these ways yourself and let me know how it goes if you're interested in more I have a couple of videos here that you might want to watch and I'm thank you so much for joining me today I hope to see you again next time enjoy your crafting and your gilding flakes thanks so much for watching we'll see you next time bye
