good morning everybody First Alert meteorologist Matt Chambers here it's the upgrade nobody really asked for say hello to an excessive heat warning from Metro St Louis to the East and Northeast the entire area was under a heat advisory for today and tomorrow it's been upgraded from basically any County that touches the Mississippi River eastbound across all of our Illinois counties what's the difference really it's just the intensity of the heat notice the area shaded in Orange down to the Southwest say Union back to Herman and Raleigh back to Farmington that's a heat advisory with a top heat index around 105 to 110. the rest of the area the heat index could climb 105 to 115. so dangerous everywhere but particularly so from the metro to the east so yes today and Friday our first alert weather days top heat index both afternoons 105 to 115. you've got heat advisories and excessive heat warnings in effect across the entire KMOV viewing area there is some good news heading into the weekend the heat while it doesn't Abate completely will not be as intense chance I don't want you thinking highs will be in the 70s this weekend far from I'll show you the seven-day forecast but at least we'll get a little bit of relief not so much today my goodness look at how quickly the temperatures climb and with a high humidity level it's going to feel even hotter I've got us at 96 at noon mostly sunny it will feel like 103. I've got us topping out in St Louis at about 102. could it be 103 104 that's a possibility so that heat index again 110 maybe even a little bit higher and into the evening boy even the Cardinals game tonight in the city SC match really really going to be hot stuff especially around the city of St Louis doesn't get much better tomorrow in fact if anything it could get hotter I'm forecasting 103. we'll keep the heat index in a similar range another game against the Cubs tomorrow at Busch Stadium that's going to be a hot one too here's what I mean by a little relief this weekend Saturday's forecast includes a low chance of a few showers and thunderstorms which could generate more cloud cover as well we saw what that could do to the area yesterday which kept us out of the trip triple digits at least that might be the case again on Saturday if that rain chance drops or we don't think the clouds are going to amount to much that could be potentially another First Alert weather day but at this point that seems like the odds are less than 50 50 of that happening Sunday is going to be the pick day this weekend because while it's still summertime hot at 94. humidity is lower skies are mostly sunny and then next week I have us kind of settling into a mid 90s temperature pattern in the afternoon with a low chance of some showers and thundershowers by Monday and Tuesday just simple reminders folks over the next few days take frequent breaks in the air conditioning make sure you're staying hydrated water or something with electrolytes in it and keep the sunscreen handy be safe out there
