what we are seeing right now in space flight is truly extraordinary while preparing for the largest rocket ever built by far to fly for the fourth time launch after launch after launch has been going on in what seems like a new Fury yes unprecedented numbers of missions are shooting off and this is just the start of an incredible future okay we can see you coming down the ladder now this video is sponsored by surf shark VPN hey hey Marcus house with you here and yes a of repair and upgrade work has continued at the Gateway To Mars launch site all in preparation for the next astounding Starship launch spectacle with ship 29 having completed its static fire campaign the week before its partner super heavy booster number 11 needed to First have the ability to start the testing campaign that is why SpaceX has been spending most of the time around the orbital pad getting ready for its arrival a week ago we talked about the installation of new propellant hose equipment on the Boost to quick disconnect since then they've lifted up this section of the quick disconnect Hood to close it all back up that hood of course protects all of the critical fluid lines and the infrastructure related to the booster propellant loading well supposed to protect it anyway hopefully any updates they've done around the replaced propellant lines is going to help also remember that whenever big work is done SpaceX needs to ensure that there's nothing left in the system that could contaminate or cause an issue with the propellant loading so on Monday they purged at least one of the main quick disconnect lines it's a little bit hard to see there but that cover blowing off the port means that gas was being sent through the line I suspect they purged both the oxygen and the methane lines there on a Tuesday the orbital launch Mount started up alongside the tank farm in another process that we also suspect was done to clear out any remaining debris that might have been in those pipes along with that a string of water trucks were rolling in to resupply the tanks that provide water to the orbital p water cooled steel plate system they certainly needed that fully loaded up ready to go for a static fire you do also need the booster though so on Wednesday booster 11 rolled out of Mega Bay 1 and made its way towards the road just squeezing past the star Factory construction there once passed it was soon rolling down Highway 4 to the launch site arriving overnight the gigantic Tower arms greeted it closing in to prepare for the lift onto the orbital launch Mount after a short break to check over everything they rose up with any luck the next time this booster is in the air will be when it's under the power of the mighty Roar of the Raptors now when it was being rotated over the launch Mount Starship gazer had the perfect view of the engines underneath all wrapped up there protected from the elements slowly it lowered down and was locked in place just in time for Sunrise the arms were eventually lowered back down to the resting position and the transport stand moved away after all the booster quick disconnect work there was no problem with it attaching to booster 11 and what you might also notice is that the hot staging ring is missing for the moment it looks kind of weird without that on already but it'll be placed on soon to get ready for the static fire though the launch Mount work platform was lowered to the ground so that they could do a quick test of the detonation supression system the work platform was raised again of course as the team needed to start removing all of the scaffolding on top of the launch Mount yes indeed it was time to go for a static fire with those Tower arms raised to their safe distance from the business end of the booster on Friday the tank farm sprung to life the regular launch Mount venting went through the process Frost soon appeared and the required propellant of liquid oxygen and methane for the test were soon loaded there goes the water Deluge system and cue the fury wa once again a super awesome looking static fire DET tanking soon started up wrapping up testing for the day just like booster 10 we think that that is a oneandone static fire campaign it's just awesome to see how reliable and smooth this testing has become so with booster 11's testing already seemingly complete what has been going on with its flight partner ship 29 since it was moved back to the build site a little over a week ago on Monday Mary with NASA space flight noticed that the heat shield tiles on the nose had been stripped off and if you zoom into the high Bay you will see that it is just the bare stainless steel notice that the steel surface is really roughed up now from this Starship Gaza shot speculation warning but perhaps they've had issues with the tiles around the nose area in general for flight three Chameleon Circuit again helped us with some renders to show where the nose vent is here for the header tanks they can push gases out of here to help with the vehicle's pitch control now we could see a lot of ice material are being blown away in this part of the flight and it is hard to know if any of these pieces were chunks of tile or not it's quite hard to say because many of these pieces float through the shadow of the ship so they look kind of black there don't they but for all the pieces that headed back out into the sunlight it looked like white icy materials so perhaps it was all just ice we never had a view of the nose after launch so I'm sure that SpaceX has some good insight into all of this either way the next day tiles were being reinstalled again and that process continued on through the rest of the week remember that some of the tiles in the areas of the ship such as the top of the nose here are attached using a strong adhesive instead of the normal attachment pins with the tight Curves in this area that sort of attachment is a little trickier so the adhesive is just easier to get right the entire ship was moved out of the high B late in the week which gave us quite a good view of the nose the work wasn't finished quite yet and it looks like they're doing some rigorous checks on the tiles that are glued near the weld lines of the barrels but also in areas where the tiles are installed with the pins now while that ship was out of the way ship 30 also snuck past to head into Mega Bay 2 remember that the only ship engine installation stands are now in that bay so I suspect we're going to see evidence of engines being installed on that one in the near future later on we could actually see that ship 30 was being lifted onto the stand with lab Padre's Rover One camera hopefully we're going to see some neat shots of that install process if they don't close the door with ship 30 out of the way they moved ship 29 back into the highay and they then had room for ship 31 to be lifted off the turntable as well so next door in the mega Bay stacking of booster 14 kept moving along the final forward stack section was moved into the mega Bay on Monday and that was integrated with the existing nine ring toll stack the day after now that is now a fully stacked forward section complete so with the after section also stacked together we are pretty close now to having yet another booster fully assembled for the Massie test site Starship gazer caught the last section of the water cooled flame bucket being delivered this means that they should now have all the sections ready to assemble and be placed into the new flame trench as soon as it's ready it's going to be awesome to see the static fires being done from here and these renders from chrome kiwi I suspect are pretty spot on showing how a Starship would be stacked onto the new stand with the wider legs it would then be rolled over the flame trench to be locked in place and hooked up with the quick disconnect system now the new beams here are speculated to be there to spread the load onto the transporter as that can pick the entire stand and ship up and then place it down now this week we also saw the release of spacex's highquality flight 3 recap video on YouTube there are plenty of new views here including some amazing tracking shots of the launch even with all of the cloud cover there are some breathtaking scenes there and for the first time we also got to see a glimpse of the hot staging from the boosters camera looking down at the grid fin that was awesome and the detail is so great that if you look down very carefully here you can see a chunk of something break off during entry perhaps a section of shielding or something there was also lots of higher quality shots of the ship plasma at the start of the re-entry there too many amazing New Perspectives so yeah do check that out for yourself now I do highly recommend checking out Destin's video on smarter every day the link for this is in the description below there's a bunch of neat stuff in here but in particular he was showing off some great insights into the low fidelity mockup of the human Landing system being tested out underwater think of this outer ring as the main 9 M wide Starship the section coming off that imagine as the elevator system where astronauts would load up and be lowered way down to the surface what is this smaller ring here though well that is actually the proposed airlock the astronauts would descend down from the upper pressurized crew area down into this seal off whatever hatches behind them and to depressurize the air loock before then getting out this lunar EG system is ECT is well into development in reality and this is a good reminder that behind the closed doors where we see very little you never know what components are being churned out it's quite fascinating seeing all of these training exercises going on so I think this is really exciting Des also seemed to be talking very positively about the design in that video too and I know many of you had a lot to say about his other recent video that seemed comparatively pessimistic about the human Landing system Mission plan so he was really seeing the scale of this vehicle in real terms this is no Apollo style Lander this is a gigantic rocket designed to take massive payloads to the moon's surface with the Colossal scale of the rocket the scale of these missions are going to be equally immensely complex no matter how you do it I suspect this experience has given him much more insight into the goings on behind closed doors that we've not been able to see at this stage again this is certainly worth a watch and thank you Destin for making it he runs a terrific channel so make sure that you are subscribed to him and yeah as always thanks a bunch for being here too so grateful that we get to keep doing this as an actual job now Falcon 9 was absolutely in full send mode this week let's kick off with spacex's preparations to launch utel sat's latest geost stationary satellite last Saturday that was a pretty neat spectacle itself actually because it was the 7year anniversary of the first ever reflight of a falcon 9 yes for the first time in 2017 the scs1 mission was about to take flight the old shuttle infrastructure still hadn't been dismantled at pad 39a at this point now normally I would reference the first landing in December of 2015 as the greatest milestone in the history of Falcon 9 but really The Proven reuse was equally as important I remember this well it was a nail biting Mission at the time fast forward 7 years and Pad 39a looks very different doesn't it zooming in there you can see that there was just one orbital launch Mount leg left standing and since then that has been taken down as well again we believe that they just wanted to start the new upgrades here with a clean slate now what is also incredibly impressive this week is that as the utel SAT 36d mission was counting down there were three Falcon 99's Standing Tall at three launch Towers ready to launch back to back to back yes there was one on slick 40 and another at vandenbberg space force base in California as well more on that shortly on board this flight was the next utel sat geost stationary satellite which is destined to replace their aging 36B satellite I can't help but feel this restricted shot here is very intentional that is because the fairing there is blocking the camera's view of the Starship launch Mount work going on behind sneaky SpaceX very sneaky it's always great to remember just how much work goes into these satellite developments with the platform and payload built in the UK and then the modules mated in France the logistics of getting this huge 5ton satellite prepared for launch is pretty Monumental by itself you've got to remember that these go through loads of testing so that they can ensure that it is ready for the harsh environments of space then of course it needs to be transported on special aircraft such as the Beluga here to get it over to SpaceX to then mount it to the vehicle what an incredible daylight view this was launching late in the afternoon a gorgeous launch there all powered by booster 1076 in this Mission we got some really great orange reflections of the Sun as we looked back at the Earth there and a great fairing separation shot showing the quite massive satellite attached to the second stage the booster made another spectacular trip out to the Drone ship again no loss of signal at all right through the entry burn the entry and the touchdown on the Drone ship just read the instructions that is drone ship number one for the week Landing number 12 for that booster and the 289th recovery in total how far they have come in just 7 years huh now they still needed to complete the Fairly lengthy GE stationary transfer orbit burn which kicked off at a little under 27 minutes into the mission take note of the speed difference there as it kicks off at 26,500 kmph in just 1 minute it had accelerated to 36,200 km/h finally they deployed the satellite a few minutes later and it was off to cruise its way to its destined geostationary orbit it should get there in about 6 month's time so yeah before even ticking over into April that was spacex's 30th mission so far for 2024 well less than 4 hours later SpaceX were about to send the 31st with this Falcon 9 on slick 40 this mission was sending another batch of Starling satellites it was well into the evening at that point of course with booster 1067 there launching for its 18th time on the group 645 Mission a little over 8 minutes later there it was landing on the second drone ship of the week a short fall of Gravitas now SpaceX as mentioned had planned to launch another set of styling satellites the same day from the West Coast in vandenbberg but that actually got scrubbed due to poor weather that was sucky actually because we could have seen three different Falcon NS taking off on the same day nevertheless that scrubbed styling group 718 Mission took off instead on Monday evening just as the sun had set now this time booster 1071 Was Taking Flight for its 15th time and given the perfect time of day this was one of those incredible missions that's because you've got the quite dark sky at the ground level but the sun is still not set kilometers above the surface this always gives that incredible contrast of the bright exhaust plume being lit up by the sun this is some amazing work by Dylan capturing some neat ground shots here all on the backdrop of a quite darkening Sky these views are always my favorite and I hope that we get to see a Starship flight at the same time of day at some point this Mission also had a terrific view of the stage separation especially the startup exhaust interacting again with those photons then this shot after the fairings had fallen away had the stylings inside lit right up so my friends there was only one drone ship left out there and that is of course I still love you now there is no way for SpaceX to launch more than three missions requiring three different drone ships so I really think that they are limited now by the number of these ships in action I suspect that they are getting really desperate to get Starship operational because they really are about maxing out their launch capability there we go the trifecta there with a slight hint of orange still in the sky what a crazy few days that was well it wasn't over yet early Thursday morning another falcon9 launch from slick 40 with another batch of styling satellites I imagine the recovery team had no time to rest as once again a shortfall of Gravitas had been back to port and out here again to catch booster 1069 on its 14th flight now if you remember a couple of weeks ago we had the Starling group 716 Mission which had a few little strangenesses about the number of satellites launched you may recall us speculating that it was odd that only 20 satellites were deployed instead of the 22 that was initially stated on spacex's website well as we thought may happen eventually the space trck database confirmed that two mystery satellites were indeed on board that flight they are we suspect star Shields so yeah certainly why we saw no glimpse of The Styling stack on that mission now this is exciting a quick update on the Polaris Dawn Mission which will be the first commercial space walk in history all of course supported by the incredible SpaceX team it is going to be an absolutely epic Mission with the vehicle being placed into an altitude that will make it the highest crude Mission ever since Apollo while in orbit they'll be doing lots of starlink communication testing and carrying out loads of experiments apparently over 35 all around the biggest event that spacewalk before jumping into that a huge shout out to Surf shark VPN for backing this video you know what a virtual private network is right that Nifty little app for your PC or mobile that not only keeps you safe screen now thank you surf shark so yes Polaris daor is going to be an incredible Mission the dragon vehicle that is going to be used on this flight was on its way to be vacuum tested space took the opportunity to take these great shots in the leadup to this huge event which should happen somewhere between June and August this year just a reminder that this is the first time that a dragon is going to be fully depressurized to the vacuum of space with crew on board and they need to scrutinize every single piece of this Mission they are going to recreate the expected conditions in space as close as they can by lowering and raising the vehicle's pressure inside even the materials inside the cabin can produce unex expected gases in a vacuum so they're going to be testing all of this out now I hope you are all very well prepared to witness the total solar eclipse this coming week on the 8th of April if you're not close by there's going to be lots of streams about it so yeah stay tuned interestingly with this Eclipse comes a pretty cool Mission from NASA three atmospheric perturbations around Eclipse path or apep sounding Rockets are set to fly in fact these have been refurbished from the solar eclipse last October and they're now armed with newer Cutting Edge instrumentation they are sitting ready to launch from Virginia's Wallops Flight Facility and they're going to blast off and Rocket into the ionosphere probing the atmospheric disturbances triggered by the moon's fleeting dance with the Sun the ionosphere region stretches between 90 to 500 km in altitude and it's a critical electrified region that reflects and refracts radio signals in a number of interesting ways that we always want to understand better these sounding Rockets are going to head right up to about 420 km and each of them will eject four secondary instruments each of them about the size of a 2 L bottle to essentially measure from multiple locations now in this way by launching just three rockets it's actually like launching 15 now many have asked if they could just do this with orbiting satellites but yeah it's not really something that you can easily do because they are all zipping around at higher altitudes at orbital velocity so they're not well timed or placed to Gra the data that they need why are NASA doing this though like what are they trying to find out well as the eclipse casts a shadow across the land these Rockets will capture a bunch of data before during and after the peak of the eclipse the aim of this is to shed new light on how many communication systems are affected by these epic Eclipse events that bring so many people together along with these three sounding Rockets there is a coordinated effort involving high altitude balloons and groundbased Radars with all of that data researchers are aiming to decode the intricate dynamics of the ionosphere so yes with NASA also streaming this event live it is definitely something to keep an eye on especially for people like me who can't witness it in person if you happen to be near the path do consider that making a trip out to see it especially if the weather predictions are looking good in the area it's also worth mentioning that the final Delta 4 heavy launch got pushed past this week and now apparently is going to potentially be launching the same day as the eclipse so yes lots of exciting stuff worth keeping an eye on I hope you enjoyed this video if you did don't forget to hit subscribe so that we get to keep making them remember as well that we've got the brand new merch design for a limited time only so if you need some new gear we've got you covered with variations of this on loads of stuff if you haven't seen it yet consider checking out this video here next or maybe these videos thanks for watching all this way through and I'll see you all in the next video
