[Music] hello everyone in this video i'm going to show you how to tie this fly it's obviously inspired by royal coachmen because of the red middle portion and peacock for the body and and because of the structure how to the body looks like it has two distinct segments it's the size 16 tmko 24 87 barbless hook so let's take one of those hooks and start tying this is not going to be one of those super long videos that i die but i think i'm going to show you a couple of nice tricks how to secure materials how to deal with the peacock something that i've just leased recently learned about and i hope it's going to be useful for you too so place your hook securely in device this is size 16 so every wrap of your thread matters if you have something thinner use thinner but i'm using 70 linear utc because i'm comfortable with this thread i'm starting my thread from the eye because i want to make thread foundation all over the hook because if you have a good foundation of thread the materials is going to be secured much better if you have hook as a base the hook is slippery so the securing of materials is going to be a little bit more difficult not necessarily bad so i'm going to show you how to tie this with the peacock eye so i'm going to use those nice and shiny parts those barbs here which are blue green brown for the rear part i'm going to use the brown one now notice this one i have this one prepared already it has blue and it has green and brown here and notice the thick the width of the blue it's very narrow and notice as i go into the green it gets a little bit wider and that's why i'm using the green one here or brown and the blue i'm going to use for the thorax so i just slice my scissors into it and cut it now remember to cut one of these like this because that's the the fragile part now spin your thread counter clockwise so when you try to wrap your thread around your material it's going to catch it like so two wraps and then tighten and then pull it out and look what i got nice clean coil neat trick okay now i'm going to repeat the process but i'm going to secure materials right now and i'm going to leave a little bit of this quill or barb or whatever you call it i'm going to leave it exposed the reason behind it is because i want this first one to start wrapping around the hook uh and i'm not starting with those barbells next to it because if you start with barbells next to the thread a couple of them will stick out and it's not going to look neat if you're making macro photos of your flies this is going to bother you so i'm trying to make a pretty fly and fishing fly as well so see how i started with the bare barb and then the first strap is clean the rear part is clean now next thing to notice is that this quill here is bare the shape is oval so the quill if you don't make tight traps can slip if you don't have smooth under body will slip so make smooth on the body with flattened thread okay make tight turns that's very important and as soon as you feel it's enough just stop as you can see i have to go back with my thread here which is okay one more no okay i'm just gonna catch it from the above and then i'm gonna add some pressure over here and now i'm going to check if it looks okay if i'm satisfied i'm going to slice my scissors through the quill okay now to hide this coil i'm going backwards with my thread a little bit just to hide it this quill was exposed now it's not and now with flattened thread i'm going forward just need to hide this here okay make nice foundation for your next step that's very important now the next step is the same as the previous one just i'll be using a different part of this feather this blue one here again make sure that you cut the first portion of it like so and then twist your thread again counterclockwise expose the quill okay more than enough i think get rid of these barbells okay this is nice now notice that the quill is facing towards me that's what i did with this one too and then i'm leaving a piece of it exposed again in touching wraps not overlapping wraps i'm securing material because if you go wrap over wrap or over wrap it's not going to secure your thread your materials better but if you go one wrap and then next one and then next one that's going to secure everything much better now i'm going to wrap this around again notice how clean the start is and then this part of the barb is even more oval i think it's more difficult to tie in properly so i'm going to apply a little bit more pressure on it and i'm going to allow it to go just until i have just enough place here to play to tie in the cdc and that would be it yeah so it's very tight space but it's okay okay i'm gonna go back one i'm going to go into the quill to hide it because if you notice there is exposed quill over here so i'm going to try to hide it like so yeah okay now it's time time to tie in the cdc and for that it's very important to find proper cdc now what i mean by proper is small notice how thin the stem is so align two tips that's important and then stroke back all those burps so we want to use all those barbs like so i wanted a little bit more to the back i use i'm using my nail as a reference thing so i know if it's good or not the length and this should be it yeah that should be it now i'm gonna spin my thread counterclockwise i'm not going to lean my hand on the fly not yet let's see how the thread is behaving now two reps and then upward tightening and then i'm going backwards upward tightening backwards upward tightening and then let's see what we did looks okay to me i'm going to go back take my scissors now try to make as clean cut as possible because it's important for your next step and that's making a neat head of your fly this is more or less okay i think so i'm just going to go back and repeat this last wrap to re tighten it a little bit now it's very important that your thread before you start with finishing the fly is flattened because the knot is going to be stronger next thing to notice is i'm not going to wrap over wrap i'm rather making those wraps next to each other i'm trying to go i'm trying to keep this this one indeed like to slide it near of the eye but i failed to do that and i don't like the knot so just do one more finish with two turns to hide these things these butts one okay two okay and then i'm gonna pull it this way in order to hide all those butt ends and make a cleaner head now imagine if i was one of those guys who likes to who likes to varnish the head this head would look perfect now i'm not cutting i'm just slicing through the thread that's where you probably don't even see the tag so guys tell me what you think about this fly tell me tell even tell me would you like to fish it how you would fish it and what would you do to maybe improve this fly maybe some super super glue before tying into the peacock or something like that so guys thank you very much for watching i hope you liked this video if you did please like it share it and see you next time
