the second and presumably final extension to the Lost dungeon set has been released this has been one of Conan's most troubled building sets but was the third time the charm this go around today we're going to find out firstly a disclaimer this set was gifted to me by funcom just like all my other reviews that will in no way affect my opinions of this set nor will it affect my recommendation or lack thereof so without further Ado let's get started the L dungeon set comes in at two different price points if you own the previous two extensions it is 793 Chron coins which is just over $66.50 and if you don't own any of the previous extensions or the base set it costs $210 just under $117 I unfortunately couldn't find a price if you own just the base set and not the first extension but hopefully that won't affect too many people we'll touch back on total price comparisons later on in the video The Lost dungeon expansion contains iron gates and ladders syst and tunnel pieces more doors and windows fences and crated walls walls and stairs the pieces from the base set which are foundations and walls and doors and windows and the pieces from the first extension which are stairs and ceilings and walls and doors the first extension also included a placeable sarcophagus which is not pictured here but it is in the promo art I wasn't able to confirm if it's still included in the pack I would assume it is and it might just have been mistakenly left out of this page I will update you though if this turns out to be incorrect cor but I've not heard anything about it as for the Aesthetics well we know what to expect by this point dark dank dirty and dingy the perfect gritty design for a dungeon though also the same that some including myself have found a bit disappointing for General Building very little has changed on the Aesthetics front though the addition of new design elements like the tunnels and the more decorative Alco foundations and the gargoyle placeable does add a little more of a Gothic lean to this set light interaction remains one of dungeon's best aspects similar to Arena the set can be quite dark but works very well with lighting able to create and carry completely different atmospheres that feel genuine and work with not against the building set that being said it still has the design issue of some pieces namely walls not being uniform thus creating gaps unless you face everything in the same direction there's also some issues with the system pieces and their interaction with walls too but we'll touch on that in a moment overall it's very much what we've come to expect from Lost dungeon and this set seems designed to make the pack a bit more interesting without breaking the mold on the already established design fundamentals in terms of actually building with this set it feels pretty much the same as it did before at least for the most part there were a couple of either bugs or design difficulties that made it a bit more arduous I will touch on those at the end of this segment dungeons still suffers from two major issues though those are build order and design build order in particular is probably the biggest issue for General usage most building sets in con are quite flexible and thus have no real hard build order that you have to adhere to a great example of this is the full AER bundle one of my favorite sets and it is an absolute dream to build with because it just lets you do the stuff you want to do however with dungeon that feeling is not quite the same I'd probably even go as far as say sometimes it feels like you're fighting against the set itself using walls is generally easy the rounded walls are a bit more difficult as they are semi- perspective based orientation meaning you have to look around to find the correct point and then rotate the piece into position you've then got full Foundation blocks and if you want to put them in your base you either have to be happy to have a weird depth change in your wall or you have to place the walls first and then the foundations but there's also a problem with that specifically related to the new system pieces now these tunnels are great very aesthetically pleasing and they're good not only for making tunnels of course but adding more to the atmosphere and design that dungeon is aiming for you can attach other Foundation pieces to them like the alcoves which makes it very nice but they do have a problem with corner pieces system Corners tend to get orientation locked by adjacent walls so you have to place those pieces before the walls but if you don't want weird gaps in the outside walls you have to place the walls beforehand so you can see there's a downside on both aspects this isn't really an issue with straight tunnels but it is with the curves the ALCO Foundation pieces are also very nice and whil they can get orientation locked they're not as bad as the corner tunnels however as for the alos this is a minor thing but it is a bit disappointing the alos have statues in the divots on the front and the back and on the sides those divots are empty it's the perfect size for many lamps or small Braes but the actual buildable area is just a touch too small you can basically only fit very small lamps and candles it's a very very minor complaint but it just kind of feels like a missed opportunity which I guess is kind of how I feel about this set generally building your own dungeon is a really really cool idea but so far I think the whole material pack has consistently just been a bit of a missed opportunity the rest of the set is pretty standard fair for Dungeon the addition of plain walls is very much better late than never it's much easier now to make builds with dungeon that aren't marred by the Crypt design fences and crenelated walls are quite nice the crenellations do support Archer posts and cauldrons too though the curved fences are a bit finicky the new Windows Doors and curve pieces are also fairly good however I did run into a couple of issues that I see as bugs or at least things that aren't working in a way I would perceive as intentional so I'll list them here iron hatches sometimes do not close curved fences will often only snap to curved ceilings and not walls syy and corners getting orientation locked by adjacent walls and spiral stairs now have a very very finicky placement method I don't think it was this strict before and if you basically don't put them in the right position then they just won't snap together overall all for the building experience it hasn't fallen apart but it hasn't had that massive jump in ease of use I would have wanted to see dungeon already suffers for most on Aesthetics and building experience and with the addition of more standard pieces in the set I would have wanted to see it all become easier to use so should you get this set this extension has finally added the basic necessities like straight stairs and plain walls I don't think that should necessarily be praised because they should have been there from the start but they are also nice to have in set that has generally struggled with ease of use there is of course also the issue of cost $17 for the entire set if you don't own any pieces is a bit steep of what you're getting of course the Steelman position is that well it's three packs in one which is true but I think most would say that the first two packs were quite disappointing there's also the issue of cost for people that already own the previous packs if you bought each pack when it come out initially you're looking at spending roughly $22.50 in total of course this is over the course of what a year some would argue that's kind of the risk you take when you buy a set early just like anything else it will sometimes reduce in price go on sale or be bundled with other things to make it comparatively cheaper but it does leave a bit of a sour taste in the mouth considering you've paid more for the set in total when it was less functional I think the most important question though is does this extension really warrant its own existance well it does have some nice additions to the set including unique pieces not in any other set but I don't really think that makes it a must have dungeon is more usable now but I don't think it's had such a jumping quality compared to AER for example I do have the theory myself that this second dungeon extension was probably chosen as the easiest option depending on how late the dev team made the decision to Pivot to a fourth chapter there's no hard evidence for that it's just what I suspect happened and to be fair if that was the case I think they could have done a lot worse than what they've done here ultimately then do I recommend you you get the second lost dungeon extension for me I don't think I can recommend it it does some cool things and the set is more usable now than ever before but it does undoubtedly have some issues it's got a couple of annoying bugs a strange build order forced compromise between walls and Foundation pieces and the set still feels like it's missing a couple of things had this set really really improved on the user experience then I kind of would have been in half a mind to recommend it but I don't think that jump has been so significant that I would recommend it undoubtedly there are people that will like this set and if you're a firsttime buyer I think you could have some fun with it there's some cool stuff you can do with it but it's not groundbreaking and ultimately the Aesthetics really hurt the potential of the set being used as an exterior design at least in my tastes I appreciate what they've tried to do to make it more usable and flexible they have achieved that to at least some degree but I just don't think the set is adaptable and interesting enough to Warrant the full price $650 is a bit more palatable on paper but again I don't think enough value has been added to the set overall I suppose that's really been the whole kind of vibe with the dungeon set some of the stuff like AA and storm glass cathedral has been somewhat expensive but they've all been really well received because they were really good dungeon's been kind of a missed opportunity the whole way through and kind of disappointing in different aspects had this set revolutionized it and knocked out the park I would would have recommended it and whilst I think dungeon now is probably the best it's ever been I don't think it quite Stacks up to the quality of other build sets we've seen so ultimately no I do not recommend you get the Lost dungeon extension and there we have it my review of the second lost dungeon extension I am very much suffering from dungeon fatigue and I'm happy to say that I think this is probably the last we'll see of this set I appreciate they tried new things here but I think the set overall has been disappointing unfortunately hopefully in the next stage we get something new fresh and most importantly flexible thank you for watching and of course a massive thanks to our wonderful esteemed coffee cultist for continuing to support the channel over on patreon let me know your opinions in the comments below I'm probably not alone in wanting to see the back of the dungeon set though at least some of the new additions are kind of cool again thanks for watching take care and I'll see you soon
