[Music] hi everybody welcome to the fiber friends podcast i'm cheryl from my needle crafts hi everybody i'm louise from wildflowerable ornament challenge kicked off a couple days ago people have been knitting things and there was entries in our ravelry group already for december wow well ornaments are pretty speedy right they're not not a big time commitment yeah do you know what you're going to make for yours well i've started i'm doing some cross stitch ornaments okay i know they're not knitting no but i was just going to say we should say that because there could be you can i mean it doesn't have to be crochet whatever just ornaments ornaments yeah so i i started a little early because i finished off my uh well i finished what i was wanting to finish of my halloween cross stitch i had been working on you can look at past episodes if you've missed it and uh i needed kind of a palette cleanser so i i flipped through my just cross stitch um um magazine christmas ornament magazine and uh i decided to uh just do something yeah so i started it i think i talked about it last week but i had only just done a little tiny bit so i didn't really bring it to share okay mom look away close your eyes okay don't watch this because yeah look how cute that is so yeah okay so i'm not can't say what it is because she probably hasn't plugged your ears so you can see it it's pretty cute it's gonna be an ornament and uh yeah that's really cute that's all we can say yeah so i got that done good for you so that's my first ornament even though i'm a little early that's our half the time we have a hard time getting things done so you have to start a little early that's all right but i am going to find go looking for the next one to do because i think in last year's just cross stitch uh magazine there were more last year that i liked them and this year than there are in this year's this isn't perfect but that's cute i did that this morning you might go out this morning yeah like four o'clock in the morning i couldn't sleep so i went into the yarn room and i found some green and brown yarn on my well this is on my dedicated christmas shelf yeah and this just happened to be sitting around it's it's not the right weight this is my this is a chunky and a worsted but it works yeah and i just did that's cute so did you start at the bottom i start at the bottom so i'm going to knit one while we're chatting so i'm using just a really small needle i think it's a 3.75 i cast on five stitches and i'm going to knit this one has five rows yup so i might just do five kind of thinking keeping it simple five and five cast on five knit five rows and garter stitch then i cast on five green knit the five here cast on another five and what i did for this one was i did two rows of knitting and decreased on each end two rows of knitting decreased again okay knitting so on the third row third row i slipped the edge well except for maybe those first two rows let's not look there so could you do it where you decrease say on the first step like knit two together on every single row no matter which way you're going would it decrease the same it would decrease without so with no plain rows yeah but it would be a lot tinier oh right like it would be because that you're decreasing two stitches for every three rows and the way i said it you'd be decreasing two stitches for every two rows so it would be shorter yeah and and my next one i was even thinking about going through yeah cause i think it looks a little squish almost looks like a cupcake to me so i was thinking so what i did cupcake so i slipped one knit two together okay to keep your edges nice knit to the last three stitches knit two together and knit one so if you wanted to get real technical you could do a slip slip knit and then knit two together so you're decreasing to the right and the left i didn't work i mean i didn't worry i just and i think it's cute i mean it works it's very cute it's cute to put on a tree and i wondered about even putting a little bead or the the dollar store i remember last year i found they had little wooden stars mm-hmm i have those somewhere and just i remember something great for all those little wooden teeny yeah i think i have some up there is going to make some needle liners with them so that was and there was a pattern because donna was making some christmas trees and i asked her what pattern she was following i think she called it the woolly tree so if that's actually the name of it i'll put the pattern a picture right here and it was i'm pretty sure the same kind of idea except hers were bigger she would she was making them i think dishcloth had a dishcloth cotton and using it as a dish cloth for some of them so i wanted tiny i also saw a uh one very similar to that but it was crocheted oh yeah i've been crocheting too so bye shall we shall we show our crocheting sure okay oh i'm supposed to be knitting okay that's not gonna well maybe i won't maybe i won't get a tree done while we chat you can i have been working on snowflakes so some of these were ones that we did with september october september was our snowflake challenge that was so fun it was that's why when i became a crocheter you she became a crochet look at that look at her so i'm really curious to see are they the same size what size hook did you use i'll put my i know we use the exact same yarn same yarn i used a six millimeter i don't know what mine is okay they are pretty much mine's with seven is it yeah okay so you went bigger but we're still that was my because i'm not like crochet i'm still not very familiar with but was wondering how gage works because if we were to have knit these they would have probably been different because of our attention so to crocheting i suppose because you're still making your lips and things like you can make your loops smaller but they're pretty close to the same size they are look at that and you're gonna make that into a garland yeah i'm gonna make a bunch me too if my hands will cooperate i just wanna i don't know if i'll do like string garland or if i'll just make a bunch and hang them up because i love them i love these big ones i make a nice little trivet or something too i had my glass bowl on it i did that's exactly i had mine sitting on the coffee table and i oh well you know what we've gone antiquing we've gone to one i think you've restyled that one that's the one from early on it only has five it's a little crazy in here okay i'll put a button on there that's a good one to sit under your bowl that's right i know this is the one that only has five points because i yeah i missed uh did i miss crocheting i don't know i did something you did so that's all right no no two snowflakes are like that's true they usually are more symmetrical stop picking up my snowflakes that's okay they've gotten way better because look at these ones are adorable i've even gone down in size i like this size to be honest with you well i think i might like it better than this do you see i i like the big ones in what way does this one this i've got the yarn this is cotton this is cotton this i found this i don't know if it's new at michael's i don't often look groups and threads i don't know oftentimes i don't often look for cotton in michaels but i was looking to see i wanted something really nice and white white and this is what i came up with so it's a cotton acrylic it's a cotton and nylon oh oh right there oh yeah 18 nylon 87 cotton 13 nylon well that's all right but it feels nice doesn't it yeah it's a normal structure and number four worsted weight yarn oh okay yeah so loops and threads creme cotton and there's a pattern it shows a scarf oh cool i don't know that i want a cotton skirt but i guess if you can't wear a wall yeah for people who can't wear wool so this is screaming oh this scarf oh yes it is they've got they've striped it i don't know if it shows up there i didn't even notice that when i looked at the picture but it they've used the cream and a gray nice so this i'm using a number of i find things is a 4.5 for your worsted weight oh it's a four yeah and what kind of that's an it's an addie oh i didn't know why he made crochet hooks there was few years ago when i first found this so this pattern is the expression fiber arts on youtube if you just google expression fiber art snowflake it pops up three rounds three rounds easy yeah easy i went and printed off her on her there's a link on her blog to the written instructions which i did not find as easy as watching and like i can read crochet and it wasn't the best like you know i had never made it i wouldn't have been able to figure it out okay that makes me feel better because so how i learned so if you don't know how to crochet even just following her instruction the video just stop and pause and literally do well i mean i suppose you have to know how to crochet a little bit because she'll say chain two or chain five and two double crochets and i did have to watch her video a couple of times to refresh exactly what a double crochet was well because how she does the beginning circle is different than how i originally had learned to do a magic circle okay so i had to go watch a different video for a refresh because her directions were kind of screwing me up a little bit well i found watching the video i could do it and that's it so this is out of the cotton yard on the size 4 hook i think it's really pretty i'm in love with these snowflakes i just want to make these forever and ever because i like them well i had to do this over the course of two evenings and do something else because it was hurting my hands crocheting does bother my hands but clearly doing something with big yarn and a big needle makes it worse yeah well we were talk before we started filming we were talking about the hooks mm-hmm i'm not so sure i like this hook i i'd like some other people's opinions on hooks it's interesting well what is what i don't like is the shortness of the actual hook like what you call is that a oh like the shaft don't it the shaft yeah because when can i grab yours so this is what i used for my big snowflakes just yeah one of these what is this an arrow or susan bates or something right terrible that's what it is it's the only one i could find that size but i liked it because you could have your your your loops on your your work right it could slide you had more leeway you could like move it up and down or i don't know whatever you're doing with your hook right there is more space there yeah which maybe you're not supposed to do but i found on this one when you had you just like drew this is it your stitches have to sit here and i feel like i kept wanting to push them typically you only have one or two loops or three loops on your i guess on your mic at a time my inexperience as a crochet and maybe that's what i'm thinking too as a knitter you've got the whole you know whatever you've got your needle tip to to play with right if you want to move things up and down and also that's what i realized when i had because what would you have you had three loops on here at one time to do the double crochet and it just felt like they were crammed on there and i don't know this is supposed to be ergonomically correct i think for to help your wrists and everything but i just found it kind of weird and i'm just i'm trying to hold around the shaping part so does it feel it feels odd well i'm just gonna crochet with this for two seconds just so i can i don't know because this is how i hold my crochet you hold it over here and i was trying when i knit the first ones i was holding it under like this yeah like a pencil as opposed to the other and i don't know it might be okay the hooks i would love to know when other people i don't mind how that feels because i'm going to just grip it like this so it kind of gives me more here i know the clove is it clover that they have they have like a kind of a bigger grip handle on them too i think yes but it's straight yeah and i was thinking about getting a few of those to try to try a few years ago just so they give me more to hang on to might not hurt my hands so much when i tried the snowflake pattern for the very first time i went out and i bought some different crochet hooks because i was you know on the quest to find which one i liked the best so that's why i bought this adi one and then i have a i think you're right it's a clover one it's yellow the whole hook is yellow and then it has a wider yellow kind of plastic handle on it i have that and i'm not sure if i bought anything else and i i don't know if i really noticed any difference between them but my crocheting is pretty limited so i don't know well my biggest problem with this is i don't like the plastic hook no because i find and this yarn i find hard it's always tight because it doesn't slide through my hands as nice because it's acrylic and i'm not used to it yeah and it sticks to the hook and [Music] i just don't find it very nice and flowy and comfortable i could see that so i'm thinking i might have to in my travels maybe this weekend or something see if i can see what you can find get a metal one that's this big one two three four five when i was working my snowflake i i pulled it out because i started to make another five point star instead of a six but i caught myself so i was able to pull it back to a certain point and then i knew exactly where i was and i could carry on so i think that's a good win i could read my stitcher stitches yeah read my stitches and carry on okay so i've got a little trunk i think that's five rows now i'm gonna um cut this and add some green in here so i'd love to know what everybody else is doing for ornaments too there's people are posting pictures in the facebook group fiber friends friday night knitting and if you find something that you really like you can share the link to the pattern too so other people can get some ideas speaking of ideas i have a list of ideas that's great because i want to do so after i make a few like i'm gonna work on more of these over the course of between now and cursing just because i want to hang them up yeah and um i mean i bought three balls of this because i didn't know you could get quite so many out of it as you well you can make tons you can give them as gifts put them in they would look fun as um in place of a bow and wrap a present and put this on with a little name tag tied to it or something that's a good idea i think that would be cute yeah i want to do some sort of little knitted i think one year i made the little gnome there was a little gnome like santa claus and you can hang him up i don't hang on but you can but i want to knit some little cute stuffy kind of ornament of some sort too just haven't picked one yet um okay i'll tell you what i have okay so this all started because trish was knitting her little christmas stocking so it is so i picked all these designs are from one designer and her name is amanda berry i went on and i we looked at her stocking pattern a couple nights ago when we were all doing an online knit night and it is just called i think it's just called christmas stocking pretty simple and they're just little little stockings simple it's a free pattern isn't it flat so you do have to seam it but it looks pretty pretty easy she said it is she designed it in mine for beginner knitters and it's amanda berry amanda berry yeah i will put her why yeah i'll put her name on the screen and i'll put a picture of the stocking here and she also has a mini mitt pattern that's free so i will put that picture here so it's cute and there again i think it is knit flat a lot of her stuff is knit flat but you could probably you know modify it to knit in the round if you wanted to the mitten pattern it's free and it has a little crocheted um loopy thingy to hang it up with what else does she have she had eight technical terms crochet loopy thing oh what would you call it a loop a loop a hook a loop a thingy you know what i mean a thingy a thingy she has a gingerbread house what a knit gingerbread house it is a paid for pattern but i don't think it's very much it was in pounds so and all most of her patterns if not all of them are knit in dk weight oh okay but that's okay i think they could easily she says dk or a light worsted so i'm sure you could modify it for whatever you can get ornaments you could probably use whatever you got and just use the appropriate size needles i think so too if you had sock yard if you absolutely forced it it would be fine and then sock yarn it's fun because then you get little teeny tiny things so oh i should put i'll put a picture of the gingerbread house here look and it has so it is really fun it has a christmas tree on the back of it and just the whole doorway with like the archway and the icing on the roof sounds complicated i i was going to say i said it sounds interesting it looks really fun very detailed i don't i don't i am tempted because my my whole kitchen is the theme of my kitchen is gingerbread men for christmas so i think i might have to have that one so yes it is a paid for pattern but that's all right she has a gingerbread man and he is free cool should say a gingerbread person person gingerbread person i may have to do that one as well i thought of this one for you yeah you might have to do this one now this one is a paid pattern but it is a chubby robin so it's one of those ones it look it's kind of round and it has a little hat on it i put a picture here but there is like a bazillion ornaments out there right i mean mini mitts mini stockings you can make little mini hats anybody doing balls balls i mean yeah we haven't even talked about christmas balls and that's kind of the most obvious one those are the most common i think yeah well i'm gonna do like fun color work and you do everything even even the mini mitts there were some patterns like if you look on ravelry there's a bazillion come up and there's little mini latvian mitts that are color work so you can get as [Music] inventive as you want for sure oh yeah i know fun fun fun and pom-poms don't forget pom-poms oh i saw it did i i might have already mentioned it last week but these super cute little gnomes and they're a pom-pom for the head and then it's a little knitted or there's a uh you can do a crocheted or knit hat yeah and then it's a wooden bead that's sewn on on the edge of the hat for the nose oh my gosh so cute i think there's been a lot of versions of that a few people have sent me links to that using the pom pom as the face and i saw somebody do you know the little santa hats it maybe we'll do them next week just for fun um or maybe i'll just bring one made you know where you cut a piece of a toilet paper roll oh yes and then you make the lid some of those already donna made some of those and i'm sure i had seen somebody take that hat and put it on a pom-pom as well which would be cute that would be cute it would be really cute anyways yes so many so many ideas so start making start posting start sharing what you've got it'll be fun i'm really looking forward i've got i have some big plans so big plans that is that is a clue big plan uh-oh i hope it's not like you're [Music] your big kitty big [Laughter] this year louise is going to knit her christmas tree i don't think so because she already bought two of them that is true that is kind of cool though i'm i'm kind of a little jealous that you get to wake up every morning and see a christmas tree i know i i have to say i love that having one in the bedroom and good job i only have like really four rooms in my house because that's uh just filling putting your christmas tree in every room how's your how's your tree coming oh wait i just we still don't know i gotta i have to oh you had to pull out well i'm gonna add anyways i didn't laugh at that you no you did not okay you lost i'm laughing at you you laughed first because i can read your mind oh my god okay i need to think here i need to think it's not friday night yet louise yeah i know we need to save those conversations for our friday night friday night friday night everything goes on a friday night man oh man okay what else i must be having a good hand day because you got two points done yeah i'm almost done um i have a finish it's nothing to do with christmas but i thought i wasn't even gonna bring them because i have a finish but i mean the finishes are so few and far between i have to share them even though i'm totally the wrong seat i'm always a season behind you are not it doesn't matter it's winter and they're soft that's right and they're orange so these are oh i almost had orange socks on today did you i could have showed them i i changed my mind they didn't match my outfit i had to put them back at different ones sorry i'm taking your thunder that's okay you know that's i know finished socks look at this i need to show them i'll chose [Music] is that gorgeous it is beautiful i love this yarn love songbird fiber shine i think that's absolutely the color that i wear here i think you should it's pretty and i've got lots of it left over that's beautiful yeah i think i made one of my cuffs a little shorter at the other i think you might have it i don't know maybe if you stretch it i don't know maybe you just made one no they're the same they're the same oh good because a couple nights ago i went to hold one up and i'm like wait they're exactly the same perfect good then i didn't mess up no and they fit i couldn't i'll have to well i couldn't wear them i couldn't wear them today and show them at the same time did i mess something up no i don't think so i just think i think the socks just knit a little tighter in the heel than this sock is it could be i'm assuming you do the same amount of rows for everything um this one looks tighter than this no guarantee i mean the stitches are the same that's what i mean i healed the yeah i mean one feels the same amount of stitches right and i just measure my heel flap so i mean technically a heel flat could it could be a row or two longer on one sock than the other i go two and a half inches so maybe that's where you're a little maybe one i don't i don't count they're beautiful i'm so happy with them um my christmas socks are not done yet for this weekend but were you supposed to have christmas socks well i was yes yes the wildflower wools christmas sock knit along is ending saturday night and i haven't even seen her socks what do they look like haven't i shown them here no oh oh yes you did with my and i'm doing the magic heel on it you did that with the uh the red white and green peppermints you did the one that i want yeah yes yes so they i'm hoping maybe by tomorrow night i will have one sock finished yay and that's okay it's not christmas yet exactly even though i mean you didn't meet your deadline you know it's not christmas i even thought if i hosted a knit along it would um but you finished those i finished these because this was this was my project for jocelyn jocelyn and i podcasted last night my watch and oh did you yeah so yeah i finished these for that i was feeling super proud of myself last night i had to finish sock i did good great progress i'm saying on my blanket it was fantastic we laughed oh my gosh we laughed because jocelyn and i are you know it's really truly a crapshoot if we actually get our goals done for the month right it's 50 literally 50 50. and so somebody had put in the comments but because i was saying we should name our podcast the you know the never get it done podcast or something right and somebody typed in and said it should be the um you know i what was something about i'm thinking about it i get you know i thought about it or something right or or i don't know anyways and poor jocelyn she we were talking about her blanket and she didn't even touch she didn't even do one row on her blanket i know you did more than a row i did you want to see it now well i was going to show my finish oh okay sorry sorry i'm getting excited yeah it's okay i'm excited to see too because i saw last night and it was humongous yeah i'm fine every time i take a drink in the camera i see it and i'm like i gotta remember to take that off and i always forget so i've done that i've done that too with my mugs i drank and i think okay where's my what am i knitting where's it getting distracted so when i finished i finished my third pair of mittens for the mitten challenge look at you oh yeah we cannot forget to draw a winner so we have to draw winners and i really love this color those are so these are for my niece and she uh apparently she has a light like aqua teal colored winter coat that's kind of the thumbs i know right thumbs up they just look funny compared to the rest of the i know but there's no way around that yeah they're beautiful i love them and this is um i didn't make any mistakes in this one either i didn't slip any stitches by accident like adrian smits um oh sea breeze ombre patents classic wool i will have to make sure to tell my niece do not throw these in the water don't worry sister because you know i made them hats when you're out of classic wool and my sister she felt it didn't she wear it in the washer and it came out a baby hat okay i told you i told you and again these are gold house of yarns house mittens i love this pattern i'm so happy that you found that pattern yeah and it just fixed well i saw the sample at the store when we were there yes when i bought my uh west yorkshire spinners i'm getting better at that by the time yeah my west yorkshire spinners uh whatever it was called i mean you're sparkly no no no no no no thank you i may have to go back there and buy lisa from the co-dependent knitters she has been terribly enabling me as if i need any help in that department there's a mitten book that they have and i'm thinking and she i know she keeps saying she's i think you need this for christmas don't have to ask me twice just um oh my gosh yeah so i may be going back there to do a little christmas shopping for myself i'll say that sorry nothing wrong with that so i do uh have plans for my fourth pair of mittens they were another felted pair right yes i think this one's even older isn't that an older label that what that is one of the older ones yeah yeah so yeah kimono it's called oh that doesn't even sound familiar i've seen it i had a few balls i got it just uh gotta go from the craft store downtown yeah well that's the time to get it right when they're clearing it out so my niece loves green and dark reds and whatever so i'm hoping that she'll like this i love it louise so nicely after our conversation before went and bought me some metal six millimeter needles from little red yes is that how you're all set so i'm all ready to go and we're gonna start those tonight we'll have to report back see how you like yeah and there's five of those i'll probably end up using four that's okay you have the option if you want to you can okay i had to stop and think here and get my green color on here so i'm going to knit so you've got mitts to do crochet snowflakes my blanket and i have to decide what ornament i'm gonna work on next okay okay let's talk about ornaments i'm all excited about ornaments i there's a lot that i want to do but i'm really i'm really really am liking the snowflakes i'm having a lot of fun doing that watching a christmas movie and we did a whole month of snowflakes and you just haven't got over it i know i'm loving it i was i was watching a christmas movie at four o'clock this morning i was up at three and let the silly dog out because you just had to go pee i was watching the santa stakeout at four o'clock this morning knitting a christmas tree so mom mentioned this morning that there was a bunch of you guys have been talking maybe in the facebook group about a new christmas movie this year is it something to do with a castle or something yes yes that one's on netflix so i have to watch it because there's a bunch of ladies sitting around the fire knitting there is there is there's some ladies in it and they they are in a knitting group oh okay yes and brook brook shields is in that one i think that's um if that's and apparently it's good you've watched it i've i've watched half of it oh okay i mean i don't know what kind of what christmas movie is not good i don't know i don't get that excited about them but i will probably watch one because you know they're nice to throw on on a saturday afternoon if you're relaxing not that i get to do that much right now but i've got my green on both ends now i have to try to remember how many this is not going to work but i'm going to do it anyways how what are the chances of somebody remembering how many how many rows i've knit i think i've had zero so did you slip the first stitch even on the first row yeah okay blanket knitting or ornament anything i want to talk about both i want okay ornament knitting i keep the pom-poms i've got some pom-pom garland i'm gonna do oh okay i have another pom pom project that i'm going to do i have my big project that i'm going to do it is not an ornament it's not going on the tree well if it's big [Music] okay so blanket knitting blanket knitting is on track i i hate i hate to say this because i don't want to jinx myself but i'm going to get this done on time or you should have said that part you are on track i am finished i am on you're right i am on track to finish okay i got my row done started with another little christmas tree okay ready this thing is so big i had to find a bag and even this bag it's going to outgrow so here is our yarn croissant i tried to explain to um oh is this going to pull it no no the other is me it was stuck oh wait no oh this one's coming out oh there you go oh oh my it's not attached you see that's why it's got a little doodad thingy on it there we go there it's out this is good because this was me um my blanket oh yeah i tried to explain to jocelyn that this was now a yarn croissant and she didn't think it sounded sophisticated and elegant i think his croissant is french you know i know she wasn't buying it she's like yeah whatever it's weird either way so [Laughter] okay i like it holy smokes you guys this is getting big it's getting big and that is giving me an arm workout knitting it just hoisting it and turning it and opening room we're backing up from the table back her up just give me a sec jordan wants to show oh my gosh okay let's see now this is truly amazing pop pop your head in say hello jordan made this in her manufacturing class at school i put the leaf on backwards how would you dance because it goes like that instead of like this and like it goes like this like that i don't know it looks beautiful i don't know look at it it's all welded jordan that's beautiful look at all those petals yeah there's a there's a bolt in the middle right in the middle that holds it down hey yep that's awesome do you want to say hi talent runs in the family yeah my kids like doing stuff like that that's amazing that's that is really super cool adrian how does my blanket compare to that now this is going to look pretty boring and just a plain old garter blanket have been all cozy worm here yeah okay leave that the wrong way three oh yep this way all right i better get that in and don't i know oh that's move that was it okay we're gonna do our big reveal ready ready here we go don't look at that big string holy smokes louise we can't even get it all in i know that's amazing so you got one two three four five six seven you're on your eighth strike yep so i'm on my third ball my third croissant it doesn't look nice it's very nice it's i'm loving this i would definitely make another one of these i would make one for everybody out of this and you know really it's it's not taking you that long it's not what are you spending like an hour a night on it yeah christmas movie year two christmas maybe a couple hours yep so yes it is nice i like it i'm so happy i went with garter stitch it got rid of the stockinette in the middle i think it still wouldn't look nice well a little but i don't know i think i'm really thinking yeah you can just go now i can just go and right now that's what i need just simple simple circle just go like it i did yeah i might have to do i didn't do my my set number of rows last night after jocelyn and i chatted i did a little bit and then i and then i started working on snowflakes so i can't get distracted by snowflakes so cow scoop 220. cascade 220 and you're knitting it on the diamond and i'm knitting it on the diagonal so where's this just add one so it counts down here you got to your width you want yep so it's a add one uh decrease one yep knit two together on this side increase on this side and do you do that every row um every this one here is every other every other cool i like it gotta stop and think if i didn't have so many projects on the needle like which one is this you're crazy man so there i know yes i just love things like this it's like turning the heel of a sock it's so magical because you're knitting like this it starts out as a dish cloth right you start with three i started with three next time maybe i would start with two i started with three and just increase out and then you have to remember this doesn't give you your width you have to think that this yeah along yours along the edge is your width yeah so it took me a couple tries well you know i just i didn't i did not do a gauge swatch because this was a working a working gauge swatch i think that could be a new can i coin that term a working well okay so i knew i would have to start in whatever a couple of times and so i've got i think a nice width i like this so this is my whole hallmark moment christmas eve i want there to be snow on the ground i want it to be lightly snowing eric is going to open his blanket as we're having hot chocolate and hallmark movie playing in the background and he's going to love his blanket i'm going to open a gift to myself which is going to be this scarf and i'm going to be able to wear this scarf and he and i are going to go down to the park and we're going to walk through the lights as it is lightly snowing and it's going to be a perfect night that is not going to ever happen like that because you're going to open that gift and that scarf's still going to have needles attached to it that's what's going to happen possibly that is beautiful you ellen you had started one of those last year was it last year you were knitting it in acrylic yarn and you didn't like it i knew if somebody asked me when i started this and they said well how's this going to be different from the one you did last year my answer was this is nice yarn i said this one i hope to finish but i am actually doing this one i am actually truly doing this on the bias that other one was just kind of knit um it wasn't it though the stripes were just truly horizontal and they were oh okay so it wasn't a different but i was using the red heart super saiyan enjoyable to knit was it it was the stuff except in red this is yeah this is red heart i think it's super saver red heart i don't think it's comfort i think it's super saver yeah and i had a moment last year where i thought i've got i literally have a whole shelf of red white and green yarn for christmas and i wanted to do this candy cane scarf i thought why go out and buy more yarn when i've got lots of red and white already at home i started it and it's like oh yeah and i mean i know and i always felt bad saying that about the red heart because i know lots of people love red heart it comes in an amazing selection of colors it's very economical it's very you know it's washable it's everything serves a purpose it does i just found that i just really had a hard time doing it i didn't i wasn't enjoying living with it so wasn't so what you're used to yeah too so this year i did i went down to a little red mitten and i got the cascade 220 so it's 100 wool and i'm liking it a whole lot better so my candy cane scarf from last year i still haven't pulled it out but i will and i will just reuse that yarn for pom-poms because that's what this whole selection of yarn is for is for my pom-pom garland yeah and now it is for some christmas trees so that's what i'd love this for and because i like this apple green don't know if that's an actual name of what this color is but i call it apple green or light green or whatever it is i like this for my pom poms so anyways yeah so that's the story of the candy cane scarf nice i like this one i'm really liking this one yeah so we'll see if i get it done for christmas eve or not you got two done yeah my second one's a little bigger i think i was just too tight oh so okay so now you're my friend i'm having trouble with this finger yesterday and today so it's a little enough so this is your new one this is the new one so let's hold it up to mine see if it's because you're using a seven oh seven millimeter yeah now look at this is the first one well and i was having trouble holding like just with my tension with how i'm holding it and it was flowing a little bit better oh those are gonna be so fun so fun i'm i am going to be slightly bigger just like yeah let's still look good in that in a garlic if you decide to hang them all we should draw winners from our mitten challenge we should we should do that i think there was over 54 entries which is good will we do what we just want to do it on your phone yeah we can and then i'll just i'll just we'll just do the number and then i'll put a picture so we don't actually have to show i guess we should go and make sure there was 54 though well i'll just check okay yeah i will check and there were some people added in some people some people don't use ravelry so as with all our challenges if you do not use ravelry or if you have find it hard sometimes that's tricky getting a picture in there if you have trouble post a picture in the facebook group of your project tag me and ask me to add you to ravelry so i did that for a few people this uh last challenge and some people were knitting mitts a couple ladies did six pairs of mitts a pair a day crazy and there was fingerless myths there was all kinds like scrolling through all the ones and ravelry it was really fun seeing all the different patterns november 2021 mitten challenge is that the one yeah three hours ago so there's 68 posts six oh 68 posts that's what it says how did i get i think there was three pages and this is our the most entries we have had wow i know like that those are the um there was there was some felt admits there was a few pairs of of thrummed mitts there was that was the um like the honeycomb pyramids there was fingerless mitts a lot of fingerless mitts there was really some really fun thrones yeah they really they're fine i think okay don't quote don't quote me somebody's gonna somebody's gonna hold me accountable to this but i'm gonna say it anyways i'm thinking next year i need to be on the ball and i need to make a bunch i see you're laughing already uh i can't see it i know because i'm thinking even as i'm saying it but it would be a really good idea for me to start early and make thread mittens for like everybody wow did you finish the other pair of throw moons are you throwing on them yet okay i'm just checking [Laughter] no i did not finish them but they're still out i haven't i haven't put them away yet either so hopefully because i do i do want to wear them i want to finish them and wear i'm not done knitting we don't have to stop knitting them but they're not for christmas so truthfully they may wait until january or maybe between christmas and new year's that's a good idea yeah they made that they may just get set aside because they're going to be for me and so if i have them to wear like in january that's good i'll be i'll be happy with that yeah so there's a pen over there if you want to write it down or you're just going to go back and watch this i can just go back okay i'll watch when i all right so we had 68 entries six times that's fantastic so between 2 and 68 hey google pick a number between 2 and 68. that's why we need a drumroll [Music] number 65 i think i know who this is because i added some posts at the very end number 16. five is enid number one number one so i will say enid if hopefully it's fine i'll go into the facebook group and i'll just screenshot enid made up um but four different pairs of fingerless mitts and they were striped so i will put a picture here you guys can all see them all right so second winner second winner hey google pick a number between 2 and 68. number 43 43 who's number 43 this is fun i love giving things away i guess it's on page two what do we say 43 43 is jane bg1923 jessica jessica jessica your christmas mix one yay like does everybody not need christmas myths i'm thinking i well maybe not everybody but does louise need a pair of christmas myths i have new mistakes i think they're not christmas we met i think so yeah see what i don't i think we need christmas one i need candy cane ones i will look like a walking candy cane if i have a a long scarf a hat you can make some out of this i could i could i bought two more balls i now have three cup three bottles of red and three balls of white oh you got tons so we'll we'll see we'll see that's laid plans all right our third one third winner hey google pick a number between 2 and 68. insert drumroll number 57 97. okay it is 57. 57. it's gonna be on page three the suspense is killing me here oh a top thing i think it's anne anna anna anna from where is she from morrisburg oh from canada yep motorsport canada anna you're the winner number three look at that so loads of thrown to bits too look at that that's cool super warm i love the brush guys okay so like always you three knitters send me a message on ravelry with a pattern of your choice it can be anything on ravelry send me a message on ravelry and then i will give to two congratulations and thank you so much to everybody who took part that was really fun lots of fun three pairs done you look good you're good i'm hoping i'll get more finishes i got four pairs done i lied i got mine i guess jordan's pink pink ones ones adrian's green ones and my knees and those blue ones you have four i got four pairs done let's say a pair a week you're good pairs awesome they're really quick though but like seriously like a parent three nights three evenings well that's good yeah so now i gotta do another pair of you've got a gift pair of felted ones and they'll take a little longer how did i think i was going to get this done while we were chatting well you got a good start on it you definitely gotta get started it does start sounds crazy all right i will okay i will whatever i will post a picture when i get it done i'm going to try to make that one bigger though i'm going to do the three rows in between to see if i can stretch it up a little bit so and i'm not following a pattern i knit these a few years ago and we decorated our library i'm sure i told the story before our native show pictures i think so yeah oh it looks so fantastic we did these christmas trees and did we do we might have made some pom-poms too i think we made some pom-poms and the library where our the sending group met there's a long hallway with glass windows that go all the way down the length of the library so we made a garland that went all the way up and down all of these windows and then we hung christmas trees on it and and then put some pom-poms around on the windows too looked very very festive for people coming into the library at christmas it was so much fun so i'm thinking that that would have been christmas 2019 i'm guessing because last year didn't happen no so yeah nice so yeah you guys post pictures in ravelry mm-hmm because you're gonna open the thread it is open oh good the oh yeah i know i because donna finished her little santa hats and like i don't have a thread open yeah so ravelry and then share them in the facebook group and uh yeah if you got some ideas or you see some cool ones you can share some patterns or whatever share the link so we can inspire other people to maybe somebody will like what you're doing you want to cast something on you yeah yup great well happy knitting this week cheryl yeah same to you snowflakes i don't know why she's laughing on us [Laughter] all right well good oh wait that's it i think that's it that's good give our
