we are here today on the front lines of an ongoing conflict one that is a fraught with danger greasy Palms Dorito stained t-shirts empty cans of Mountain Dew cat girls and body pillows uh thank you thank you very much this is exactly what I wanted Ventura today we strike a decisive blow one that settles the score and brings an end to this war today we blame a Victor Brothers today we decide Final Fantasy 14. oh world of Warcraft sorry I was doing some Pro gaming welcome to the legendary drops here I like to talk about RPGs MMOs and anime if you like the content like And subscribe if you don't well whatever [Music] the debate between Final Fantasy 14 and World of Warcraft and which one deserves your lack of social life has become a Hot Topic over the last couple of years and as someone who has an extensive history with both games I feel well equipped to end this war once and for all my first MMO was World of Warcraft rewind to 2007 a younger me was dating a gamer girl yeah that's right who spent the majority of her free time playing the most popular game at the time World of Warcraft and knowing that I was a gamer she urged me to play the game then so I began my adventures in The Burning Crusades it was love at first sight not with her but with the game I latched on to the game instantly the extensive world the warring factions massive bosses and the genuine sense of adventure my hunter reached level 70 with his trusty white tiger named Dio I got geared cleared karazhan and eventually started raiding with my girlfriend's Guild soon after stealing her rating spot because of my higher DPS she broke up with me and in an act of defiance I joined the horde I loved wow a lot however I also loved friends playing music and a load of other things as time went on I couldn't dedicate enough time to World of Warcraft I ended up falling behind in gear and eventually I just fell out of the game I would come back to World of Warcraft every once in a while chasing Nostalgia during the midst of Pandaria however due to real life commitments I just could never get anywhere in the game and would eventually quit now let's fast forward March 2020 the world was on fire and I needed somewhere to hide friends of mine had hyped up one of the greatest games that they've ever played Final Fantasy 14 online as a fan of the Final Fantasy franchise eight years disconnected from World of Warcraft a fresh start and a new MMO sounded like the best solution to the ongoing pandemic Final Fantasy 14 took over my life I don't know if it was the lack of being able to go outside but it just felt like there was some unknown force that had taken over me in love with the story the combat the art the music and the community Final Fantasy 14 quickly became my main game over the last couple of years however as many of you may know Final Fantasy 14 is a game that encourages breaks the laws between major content Drops make for more than enough time to play other games or experience other things so here I am on the dragonflight hype Train giving the old Nostalgia wheel another spin and I'm loving it genuinely I'm loving World of Warcraft right now I came back to World of Warcraft to update my opinion on the game and see exactly what has changed over time I didn't want to base my opinion off of a lot of the content that I was consuming looking at you asman and bellular now After experiencing both games I see the unique differences between both and what each one of them may learn from one another I'm gonna approach this video from a World of Warcraft perspective first as I believe that wow is the older of the two games however it has arguably the most room for development I'm genuinely enjoying dragonflight just as I stated before however I feel that Final Fantasy 14 in its current state is the most complete of the two products let's start with the new player experience or the returning player experience let's face it world of warcraft's new player experience is a muddled mess there's little to no direction or hand-holding you create a character you're given no explanation of who you are to this world or why you're even here you crash land on an island there's little explanation of the UI and there's an NPC that teaches you how to use a single mechanic of how your class works for example I made a druid and the NPC was basically like oh hey just go ahead and use the moon fire and then when it's about to expire you know you just you just use the moon fire again okay not gonna save the world or whatever else you're doing right now you finish the leveling Zone at level 10. you're dropped off in ogremar and you're given a quest to either talk to chromie and time walk to another expansion or take a quest that lets you play through the BFA campaign it's rushed confusing and narratively an absolute mess while I understand that not all players will play MMOs or RPGs for the story you have to remember that the story serves as a vehicle to train the player on the game's systems and integrate them into the world this is something that Final Fantasy 14 does exceedingly well Final Fantasy 14 is an on Rails MMO experience all the content in the game dungeons trials raids skills professions World tools and more are all locked behind the msq or main story Quest or relevant quests Final Fantasy 14 drip feeds you the experience so that by the time that you reach later stages in the game or end game content you're well adjusted to your job roll and how mechanics of fights need to be resolved dungeons for instance are introduced to players as part of the main story mechanics of the dungeons slowly ramp up as the players progress through each scenario and players are marked as Sprouts to ensure that the player base knows that these players are new Square Enix does everything they can to make sure that the player is recognizable and given every chance to grow succeed and do better this development Choice has led Final Fantasy 14 to have one of the most accepting and friendly communities in MMO gaming unless you're on Twitter or Reddit World of Warcraft on the other hand is a off the rails experience pick an expansion any expansion even the ones that nobody liked we have class trainers they're useless dungeons no problem they're all scaled level 10 to 60 and unlock the minute that you enter into an expansion my friend and I queued for a dungeon and the party disbanded almost immediately after we told them it was our first time we queued again this time didn't say anything Ed immediately wiped the first boss's mechanics because neither of us were using add-ons at the time these bosses didn't relay any noticeable tells and we had no idea what was going on or how to resolve the mechanic early dungeons is something that Final Fantasy 14 does very well slowly introducing things like Stacks spreads Doom tank Busters Towers aoes making sure that the player is given the time to actually learn world of warcraft's new player experience is one of the biggest issues with the game they have some of the best storytelling in all of RPGs and MMOs when you can find it wow needs to learn from Final Fantasy and develop the option for a main story Quest blizzard has vanilla wow and nine expansions worth of story to tell most not all are worth telling developing an optional leveling experience where players can complete the story through relevant campaign missions explore dungeons that gradually introduce new mechanics and introduce players to large-scale group content through short versions of raids and revised fights will not only deliver a more complete user experience but would likely lead to higher long-term adoption of the game I was sold on Final Fantasy 14 after fighting nidhog and heavensward robbing new players of the experience of defeating Illidan or arthas is just a really sad way to waste some of the best characters in gaming alright so let's talk about the Aesthetics and the world Final Fantasy 14 is the objectively better looking game now I know what you're gonna say about how certain players have different tastes and the Aesthetics of the game right and I know you're probably looking at the anime posters that I have behind me and making certain accusations and you might be a little right but not totally right Final Fantasy 14 is the newer of the two games and it shows World of Warcraft should have started working on World of Warcraft 2 after cataclysm the game is redlining its engine it shows just about everywhere I run into a lot of issues where I can't turn in quests because certain zones are laggy major cities are a slog to get through you look at how characters chests legs boots and cloaks are just painted onto the character in combat animations they're terrible guys come on while World of Warcraft is in dire need of a graphical overhaul the world in World of Warcraft has some of the most stunning designs in MMO gaming even edging out Final Fantasy 14 in some regards well thematically both games worlds are vastly different Final Fantasy is more grounded in realism which can leave many of the game's locations feeling all too similar to other generic MMO Landscapes I'd like to hang on to the worlds of these two games for a moment longer because I feel as though wow has the edge in traversal while Final Fantasy 14 is frequently championed for how well they reuse content like Dungeons raids and trials Final Fantasy 14 fails to use its world and the game feels incredibly small because of it after completing the msq in Final Fantasy 14 you've likely tapped on a great number of aetherites these Stones conveniently allow you to zip around the world whether it's traveling a block or a continent away it'll only cost you a couple of seconds and a couple of Gill using the Duty Finder you never have to approach the entrances of dungeons or raids which means the only time you leave the main city Hub is to gather materials or engage in Hunts World of Warcraft on the other hand utilizes mounts and flight paths to its fullest potential while teleporting does exist it's typically only done to get between major cities and because of this the world feels big you have to travel everywhere and you make use of every Zone whether it's completing World quests going to complete a Mythic key or to kill a world boss World of Warcraft objectively makes better use of its World whereas Final Fantasy confines its players to cities let's talk about the feel of the game I could compare Global cooldowns the interaction of spells final fantasy's combo system versus World of warcraft's more free form combat however personally I feel that both games are similar enough that they don't really feel that different the reason why Final Fantasy 14 has longer Global cooldowns is to allow for ogcd weaving and for Boss mechanics to make full use of the Arena world of warcraft's short Global cooldowns keep the game on Pace with its constant movement and frantic ground Swirls and aoes without diving too far into world of warcraft's Need for add-ons the main difference between these two games is how the fights actually feel Final Fantasy 14's boss fights are epic plain and simple they are Musical and Theatrical masterpieces in every regard most boss mechanics are clearly telegraphed grand gestures that become so iconic that the mechanics are easily committed to memory as an example in the current raid tier pandemonium abyssos 8 Savage the feistus will summon either a snake or a phoenix cleaving either the middle or the two sides of the Arena respectively between the audio call out of the bird calling and the amazing animation of the move players have this mechanic earned into their memory boss fights in World of Warcraft are just visually unappealing and boring the lack of grand animations punishing mechanics and the layering of Boss abilities is what necessitates the use of add-ons to provide callouts for clarity technically player could watch the boss's cast bar however with all the amount of movements that's required in a fight overlapping mechanics and the faster personal gcd it may be difficult to watch a boss's cast bar Final Fantasy 14's use of punishing one-hit death mechanics vulnerability Stacks musical Arrangements that change with the fight flashy boss animations that give you a sense of accomplishment when you actually complete the mechanic my best comparison to the boss fights in Final Fantasy are those that are found in games like dark souls or Elden ring those jaw-dropping moments when the music changes the boss shifts phases you perfectly Dodge their attack and you down the boss not many games can pull off that sense of achievement right however Final Fantasy does alright so let's get to the end of this the end game I play both that's right I'm a filthy fence sitter I play both Final Fantasy 14 and World of Warcraft but for two completely different reasons I play Final Fantasy 14 for the story and for the raid content I like how their content's set up for rating smaller groups means there's less that can go wrong I value my time and I don't want to have to worry about whether 9 or 24 other people know how to complete a fight or not I play World of Warcraft because it has that smaller form content in Mythic Plus I get to hook up with friends and family that still play the game running around and do World quests or go and run Keys both games are winners regarding their respective end game it's a personal choice do you enjoy endless Loops of gear farming in various Avenues of finding upgrades you enjoy large-scale group battles of 10 to 25 people go play World of Warcraft do you want to beat the game get your end game equipment get guaranteed loot after re-clearing content and put the game down until the next content drops do you enjoy Erp and hanging out in cafes play Final Fantasy I believe that both Final Fantasy 14 and World of Warcraft have a lot they could learn from each other World of Warcraft can learn from final fantasy's ability to provide content that suits casual players like player housing they could learn from its use of music and mechanics making more theatrical boss fights how it structures its story content and its new player experience Final Fantasy could learn from World of Warcraft to provide content for hardcore players like Mythic plus content and make better use of its world through World quests Dragon riding or World bosses there's only one winner in the debate between Final Fantasy 14 and World of Warcraft and that's you the player you get to pick the game that best suits your needs and interests maybe you play one maybe you play both or maybe you play koikatsu Party either way there is no better choice there is no objectively better game and there's no need for there to be one as these two games compete for our money they take from one another they innovate they stimulate competition and in the end we get better games because of it for now it's good eating for MMO Players final fantasy is good World of Warcraft is good blue protocol is well on its way Riot's MMO is probably going to be solid ashes of Creations development seems to be coming along smoothly and I'm sure there's some other hidden gems that are going to pop up along the way but until a new Champion arises Helms down adventurous there's monsters to be killed and loot to be had so until then see you next time
