hi everyone welcome back to the channel and we are here at the festival of cults again 2019 in Birmingham it is Saturday the 3rd of August I had such a good response from the vlog I did from here last year so we're here again and I'm going to take you with me let's have a look at the lovely quotes thank you we were kind of given a to free tickets and we have to fill in some information thank you to Lisa for my ticket and also to the kind stranger who we just met outside who gave my office 30 tickets well so thank you for the three tickets so we're on our way now thank you [Music] [Applause] [Music] oh these are cool all right because it's not they oh it's nice he's a net this is like sewing cabinet goals right here look at that and it all folds away into a like a just like a wardrobe I think when it's all folded away but you can have these tables in that different places and things it's amazing one day about those woodland animal one so nice so this is Susan Briscoe designs a lot of you will know her from the sushi KO books she's a sushi co extra expert and she also she's written a few cookbooks a mini I've got a mini quilt block book of hers as well and I think that's Susan that with the flu so these are the Tokyo quilts Tokyo International great quilt festival 2019 some I'm wondering if these are just guest quilts that they've got from their tokyo show so let me give you a if I can full screen shots of that way doesn't tell me who it's how it does CACO Morihiro tiny view more detail I think these oh I really need some glasses I think these are turned applique or you know I think they are and I think they might even be hand stitched on I think this is all I think these are all turned edges turn applique edges Wow they definitely hand-sewn on because I can see their tiny stitches at the edge so I mean the size of it that is just a ridiculous amount of work how anyone would have that patience I have no idea I mean all is that level of patience incredible Wow I like this one a homage to Dushku Tsai sorry too any Japanese speaking viewers my Japanese was not up to scratch and that is by Rico and nakahara Wow let's have a closer look so the theme is obviously birds [Music] Wow [Music] let's have a look and these all look and stitched as well and I think this is even hand quilted you can see there they look like and quilt stitches to me wow it's got some lovely textures on it as well this fabric here I have to be careful cuz when I last touch them this fabric here is like it's like a woolen kind of carpet II almost fabric I don't know I don't know what you the actual name for that fabric would be but yet again I'm pretty sure that the you think oh you can see the quilting better on that one and see y'all here it's definitely done by hand wowser and this is oh this one's second place in the Japan quilt Grand Prix big wave of flowers made of stitched pongee by KOCO Takeda it's how a close look again this is hand-stitched again definitely you can see just [Music] Wow [Music] wow this is a nice bright one as well this is cinnabar red joy by Hitomi machinee Oh in this one first place [Music] some really nice textures on this violin again hand quilting looks like hand piecing little bit of trapunto work there some embellishments fabric-covered buttons some rickrack edging Wow Oh decorative stitches I think then yeah they're all by hand as you can tell they're slightly irregular so Wow I don't even know how people begin to design a quilt like that I mean I'm in awe of such creativity how where does the idea even come from I don't I can't rest of it it's just incredible oh this one's nice the little of the town Little Red Riding Lord lives in my Yoko sikita Wow in spring that explained the Frog Rapunzel oh wow so it's something like fairy tale so that's the princess in the frog as my girl there's Rapunzel she's my she's my number one to sneak her in sex she's the best and I've met her we were besties me and Rapunzel I'm a person do Odessa - Red Riding Hood yeah that might be sleeping beauty oh and what were the cats and they the cats and the fiddle and I was Snow White it's Snow White in the thunder wolves in the Brothers Grimm somebody's a book the hell up great so that's the brothers when didn't they write all those stories they did write fairy tales we're more familiar with the Disney versions but actually obviously they're not originally Disney stories Oh the Pied Piper of Hamelin the emperor's new clothes [Music] I'm sure there's lots more that we're just not picking up on [Music] again this looks like the most majority that is done by hand [Music] well it's amazing so these are the two-person phones so but a Mariners compass in the middle of this one and this is Barbara Gillespie and Frances Meredith birds of a feather block together that's a cute name oh and of course it's big birds of a feather I get it [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] okay so this is the judges choice Alan Breck Coleman sandy Chandler oh that lady made other understand she obviously my mother won my Cornish seaside well that's pretty have they been appliquéd on unpainted on I think they're painted yeah I think she's painted this blue here and then quilted around the edges of the letters and the same there that looks like fabric pain it's a cute one so we are in modern quilts now does that say new news friend looks like that you should care is that [Music] I like that circle one because part was pretty it looks like one of those things that you do at the opticians see if you remember the behind I like it though it's really cute loads of quilting in that and then their application I think these circles it's nice and read that one that's very clever all that Capone sent me what does it say if you do if you do I can't read it I'm trying to figure out what it should say it's actually easy to read through the camera lens and is a real lie if you do I don't get it did you get it I cannot get it okay so you start in the top left and you read around the outside so I can yeah like a spiral yeah oh yeah I see I know what it says but how do you read it you see in the top left so if you do if you don't if you don't because it goes around the corner have a dream oh you come out yeah and it kind of goes round in a spiral South Pacific or something that no [Music] [Music] [Music] I like that one I hope the quilting on that giving it was such a good texture all that dense quilt in there it's really giving it that the textures amazing isn't it that's really clever and that's all been looks like free motion to me that wants to take it ours it's a big one too Wow Wow I like this one [Music] okay what's nice it's really interesting when you walk around the quilt show because you see how individual everyone's tastes are because you'll hear people say wow look at that quilt and you'll look at it and think it's nice and then you'll see one and you'll go oh look at that and then the person next to you will be you know not feeling the same way so it's really interesting to see the how some designs really appeal to some people are not others yeah which is the whole point that's very clever I see nice bright colors I like that one I think this is my favorite so far put some sparkles on it and I'm there wow it makes me want to stick sparkles are my clothes yeah it looks like it yeah we glued on by hand imagine putting all that time into making that coat and then when it's finished you've got to stop sticking over this thing oh I like this one this is the third prize this would have been my winner personally Chris Harvey and Jennifer Harvey let it go oh it's so maybe it's a bit frozen inspired because the colors are Anna and Elsa yeah and there's snowflakes yeah stunning isn't it it's a frozen take on yeah yeah fabulous Sun look last one so these are the pictorial colors [Music] [Music] I wonder if the gourmet quilter is here [Music] they're nice pretty Wahoo's children oh she is she's on the end she's got the same sound the gourmet conference I'm sure many of you watching this will have seen the gourmet quilter there she is she's always on this corner I'll look at that I like that one [Music] taste of New Zealand multi-pineapple lemon semi who might try one oh my god oh they are nice mmm pineapple lumps are good so she's put a taste of her home country to the UK oh they are so good oh we have an Australian well there you go Amanda just be you this one Australian memories by Ruth wolves a safe [Music] and she she was still kind of tribal King Crimson [Music] closer Oh Kangaroo it's nice very nice [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] Wow like this one alight peacocks all that is abetting [Music] I really like that one it's not a close look [Music] loads and loads of gold and silver metallic threads in there the lady who made this has got a lot of patience because anybody who's worked with these kind of metallic fabrics and those high-tech threads will know they are a little bit of a pain to work when they fray they slip so to actually make a whole quilt with metallic threads and fabric you need a lot of patience because they are not easy fabrics to work with beautiful lovely cut my word look at this oh my gosh this is who was there a monument by Alison Gardner and it is the tiniest tiniest log cabins I've ever seen I'll put my finger there for scale so the center is actually smaller than my fingernail so they look like they were three quarters of an inch strips because that looks about a quarter of an inch to quarter inch seam allowances so I think there were three quarters of an inch strips to start with Wow tiny tiny and they look hand-stitched if you look closely this slightly like irregularity there and it's just the look that unstitching gives you can't really describe it you know if you're a quilter you'll know what I mean you can tell so if that is hand-stitched wowser I mean even if it's machine stitch still Hauser because it's so tiny but Wow that's incredible but even I can show you the quilting on that is amazing I like this one Wow to call them rainbow sign by Linda Campbell I love that one I love me a Mariners compass and it's got a circle of geese around the edge as well love it look at all those lovely sharp points look at those oh so now we're in the traditional well it's a nice one big [Music] nice bow cello Japanese extravaganza is yeah these fans are not attacked not part of the quilt universe of separate well they are part of the club but they're embellished on when it's got little kimonos at the poplar can you see they're meant to be I think they're meant to be like kimono as I know they're upside down but on the top are the right way up and follows it origami kimono [Music] slow fly Alecto my clothes like [Music] that is incredible [Music] another sparkly one so this is Purple Haze by Vaughn McKee and she has lots of lovely sparkles it's very difficult to pick them up on camera see if I move the camera until to see them sparkling gorgeous absolutely gorgeous lovely quilting wow this is beautiful absolutely gorgeous it's pretty the fat one I've lost my husband he's too interested in the quilts today he's sporting my red and white polka dot Minnie Mouse Brooke sack because when we got up the car here his rucksack strap had broken so and he normally carries all at the drinks and the heavy things so he's had to carry my rucksack with all the drinks and the heavy things in so there he is looking very dashing in my cast Kidston Minnie Mouse rucksack but he's not bothered he's a good sport that's good I'm here we've got so many more quilts to look at this show is absolutely massive I can't even give you like the scale of it goes all the way down to the end there well past the Janome sign in the distance and then all the way right down there to that far end and all the way down there it is absolutely huge this is the biggest cool show in the UK and the best in my opinion this is the show that most people choose to exhibit their quilts at first so if you go to any of the others between the other shows between now and next August you will often see this some of the cults again but this tends to be where you see them for the first time Wow I love that one it's like metallic I need to get a closer look at this one free motion God's will to you it's like a metallic [Music] come on tiny tiny tiny grunted you know make sense oh look at that that looks like Damon their average but in ostrich form Oh Dame of Australia but that was the idea of it is like Dame Edna Everage what in ostrich form no I love that yeah open it oh fish look a Don gorgeous I like that one tell it with flowers Chantal ghulam a Guillemette guerrilla may not show contemporary quilts well as interesting Cinderella in the ugly sisters by Beverly rubella I was really interesting isn't it sort of embellishments on there [Music] really creative if I tried something like this it would look like a dog's dinner but this lady obviously just has an eye for how you add all of these embellishments and just make it work because that if I did it right it all fits together really well and gives great texture to their quilts so I'm guessing she's Cinderella and they're that your blue sisters and a bit [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] so Jenny Doan is here from Missouri star quilt company and you can just probably hear her voice now she's doing her show in here [Music] and we can't we can't see in just see if we can have a quick peek we have invasion she's at least so it's sold out so we can't go in but hopefully at the end of the show she will she's going to be meeting people I'm going to try and sneak in if I can see if I can get photographed with Jenny you never know we might get looking asleep soon later on when it finishes ok so this year the theme of Glee the kind of the show from the quilters guild is this 40 this year marks the 40th anniversary of the Quartus guild and four decades of collecting for the quilter skill museum collection so this these are all quilts from the collection so this is the house blocks quilt which was made in 1978 to 1979 so this is about the same age as me so it's about 42 40 42 1960 hexagon very sixties looking isn't it the jubilee quilt made in 1887 by unknowns it was made by an Mills of crook in County Durham Wow just look at some stitching beautiful oh that's pretty not not playing [Music] look all these doggie faces [Music] Wow look at this one the willow pattern [Music] we love right we did the story behind the willow pattern at school when I was a school through school play and I played the part of kingdom oh really remember much about it I was only about 10 what that looks painted it is it's painted [Music] [Music] that is gorgeous okay so we are now entering the winners gallery so these are the winners of each individual category so this is traditional quilts Wow [Music] it's lovely so this is Pennsylvania by guangfo reefs birthday some black oh I see some fun quilting stitches there maybe that's one of the reasons it won't six huncle that and that applique looks and appliquéd as well needle turn Wow [Music] No have a look now we've got the winner of the art quilt category Wow that is nice look at that that's incredible so it looks like applique I don't know I'm assuming some paint with it being an art quilt and metallic threads Wow so this is called a vertex by Betty Busby this incredible well let's go around the other side and what we got we have the winner of modern quilts which is this one fractured circles by rubbing far he faded image mistake by the gold quilting is really nice as well very nice on this side we have the winner of the group my world [Music] Wow is a big well so it adds cowslip workshops and it's called over the hills and far away [Music] let's have a little closer look look at the fabric I'm feeling this fabric maybe kind of like influenced how the whole quilt went because this is pills and animals [Music] and then we have all animals and flowers on the edge Wow that is lovely very good [Music] okay let's go on to the two-person clothes so this is the winner of the two-person quilt Mary Palmer and an Keeley who will tell the bees [Music] well it's simple [Music] very arty as well this is the winners gallery are the quilters guilt challenge oh it was the whole 40 had to be forged - this is 40 shades of green [Music] pictorial Wow that is gorgeous by corner Stanley a double arrow and I don't speak Spanish but the name of the cell is the Orient a orcid intellimouse I don't know what it is unfortunately there's this one it's okay Wow reflected Swan in the woods absolutely gorgeous she's used it looks like she's metallic threads as well is absolutely beautiful or jazz solutely gorgeous and the minute chuckle oh this is the winner of miniature Pro Sandra Newton embraced this day oh look how tiny it looks on the massive oh just this is about ten inches square this court and it's absolutely teeny-tiny it says chase your sorrow back beyond the dawn about we can't read that here with them now the rising you know I can't see it embrace the day look at those tiny tiny stitches here [Music] look at her there's tiny stitches Wow those stitches are just put my nail in for scale they are tiny little bubbly oh my gosh sure that's amazing Wow I've just spotted these fabric panels all my words I love trousers I've got a little bit to our oh the elephants nice as well look at that Oh sorry for that digress that I go a bit mad on I see two hours contemporary quilts so this is fractal by Claudia cell Wow now I do like that Wow Wow again sparkles glitter so it certainly seems to be a bit of a theme this year [Music] capture this farkles on the screen look at the clothing on I think she's use paints as well maybe [Music] gosh this thousands and thousands of those dye monitors are here there is hours of work in that squirrel absolutely hours it's gorgeous absolutely gorgeous oh this is a sewing quarter studio so entombing that they're gonna start filming soon Oh 2:00 p.m. so in court alive with cave facet who I believe is there you think that's good for us it he's famous in the quilting world so it looks like he's about to
