Felling Principles: Compensation Pulling

hey YouTube I'm going to shoot a short little video and it kind of looks a little bit like a commercial I don't really want it to look that way but I'm showing this this collar kit from Stein and it's a sweet little rig so we got this little oak tree and it's not you know no big huge deal but it leans over the house a little and it leans that way and we have like just the right room to get it through into this area it needs to be right though because that's a nice little tree there and so we have to cut it in the right spot we don't just clobber the crap out of this tree with those limbs so the temptation is to make a high stump just shorten up the tree so that it fits in the spot better but when you make a high stump you're gonna put those limbs closer to hitting that tree so we're gonna resist that temptation and cut basically a comfortable height stump and the rest of the tree will fit in that spot if we get it right but we'll pull on it we'll pull on it with this hauler kit from Stein where is that thing okay here it is the Stein Haller kick everything all in order for your mechanical advantage purposes okay first thing we're gonna do is put a pole line in the tree and we're going to set the pole line with the throw ball oh I'm just showing the process I'm showing I'm gonna teach somebody else how to do this if I can remember how to do it [Music] [Music] running bowline tomorrow or a half-hitch all right just keep the noise down for a second oh he's gonna make a cut [Applause] [Music] okay so I have this the line that the line that I based I'd and hooked the collar kit to there's enough left over so I'm going to use it as the anchor line for the other end of the hauler okay this rope is base tied to that tree up over a strong limb down to this Alpine butterfly where we have the hauler kit hooked down the tail of of this rope is long enough that we can use it as an anchor on this tree over here and the hauler kit attaches to the other side of it now when Damien tightens it up the prusik over here will keep what he captures hold on let me look at it from the side yeah so Damien is now five times stronger and we'll go ahead and move that thing oh yeah mighty mighty Damien okay so now we're gonna flop this with the tension that we already have I call it compensation pulling and the low limbs will miss that tree and it will fall right out into there [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] yeah usually I do this by just tying loops in the rope and anchoring to the tree but it's nice to have a kit that's like all ready to go
