I actually just got a call from my grandma of all people and she told me there's a little baby bird hopping around her backyard so we're gonna go ahead over there and check it out so grandma where did you see this baby bird in the yard about the tomato plants over by the tomato plants nowhere else is going to get some tomatoes to eat yes yes what's up everyone and welcome back to another episode so I actually just got a call from my grandma of all people and she told me there's a little baby bird hopping around her backyard so it is springtime here in Florida so all of our native wildlife the birds the snakes everything is breeding and there's little baby so unfortunately a lot of these babies do get displaced from their mothers they fall out of trees when people are cutting the trees they fall down so all kinds of stuff so this baby bird may be abandoned or he may actually be learning to fly so we're going to go ahead over there and check it out but before we do that some of you guys were asking for an update on the star tortoises so we're gonna go do that right now hey guys so here is the star tortoises they are doing absolutely amazing I've probably had them here now like maybe a month and a half two months now they're doing great I just fed them a little bit ago they had a much bigger pile of food so they ate most of it and then this is left over later for when they're hungry and want a little snack they can have it they're doing wonderful such beautiful little tortoises and there is that's the legendary one-eyed Willy indeed so now that I did give you guys an update on these star tortoises we are going to head over to my grandma's house and check out what bird is in her yard we're almost to my grandma's house I'm hoping the baby bird if it is abandoned is still at her house she does have a chain-link fence so I'm hoping he didn't slip through but ideally the baby bird is just learning to fly and the mom is nearby watching him but that's not always the case but we're gonna find out so I'm here at my grandma's now this is my grandma say hi hi so she's the one that found the baby bird in her backyard so tell us a little bit about the baby girl that you saw well it's in the backyard it's a little bit bigger and what I normally see in the backyard that's fallen out of the nest how big how big is it would you say you don't know I don't know yet all right we're gonna go find out so right now I'm here in my grandma's backyard I've got this little box prepared just in case we do find this baby bird so I've punctured holes all the way around and so he can breed and this is gonna be a nice little transport box until we get them to my house set him up where did you see this baby bird in the yard about the tomato plants Oh divided tomato plants and then we're going to get some tomatoes to eat okay all right so if he is a baby bird there is a good chance that he did fall from this big tree right here so he may actually be learning to fly so his mom may be up in that tree in the nest I'm gonna take a look because if that is I'm gonna leave the little baby bird alone and the mom is actually most likely up in this big tree watching down on him as he learns to fly so I've actually scanned this entire tree I don't see any nests up in here so I don't think there is any mom bird up here or a baby bird it's just a bear tree I've seen a woodpecker but that woodpecker was just pecking on the wood so we're gonna continue to scan this yarn he very well made me over in this area I don't know I'm just hoping if he is abandoned we'll be able to find him and rescue him alright guys so if you come right over here you can see this is the little baby bird it's actually a tiny baby so my grandma was right this is not the normal type of little baby bird you would see falling out of a net this is actually a tiny little baby hawk so I don't know where he would have been nesting but he somehow got out of here he could be over in this tree right over here I could be in the palm tree who knows but he definitely is not learning to fly yet he's a little bit too small for that so we're actually gonna try to approach him we're gonna try to grab him safely and then we're gonna go take him back to my house so when you handle any type of baby bird you always want to caress and hold their wings out I'm sorry I know I know you're scared you don't know I'm a big scary guy but it's gonna be all right little dude so if you look he's got these big talent so Hawks are actually birds of prey so unlike a lot of the birds here that are gonna eat little nuts and seeds this guy is gonna prey on small mammals so small little opossums small little rats other small birds these guys are lashing when they're older they swoop down and they'll have these big talent it's he's gonna grab me I'm gonna grab me they use these talons to sink into their prey and then they used a real long beak to pick apart their prey what's I know you're scared so we're actually gonna go put him in the box right now I'm sorry I know if you look on this little guy he's actually just getting his feather in so you could see he's got his little feather casing on these right here you can actually there's no blood on them right now so you actually can kind of flake them away but these you can see that are nice and dark that means there's blood so the feathers are still forming and all these little feathers right here are his little baby feathers so it's all nice and puffy but eventually those feathers are gonna turn into this no tie you still know he's a young bird because he has all these fluffy feathers so we're gonna put him in the box and take him home so we had a successful mission here in my grandma's house we had the little baby hawk he is in the box grandma what do you think of this little baby Hawk that was hopping around your yard pretty nice pretty cute we're glad and we're very thankful that we were able to rescue this little dude so I am back at my house now we do have the little baby Hawk the little Hawk is right there in that box so right now we're gonna get some little pinky mice I'm gonna show you guys what those are in a second and we're gonna hopefully feed this little guy I'm hoping he's gonna eat because a lot of times when these little birds are abandoned they might have something wrong with them the mother may have thrown them out of the nest or they're just injured they're scared and they don't want to eat so I am hoping that this little dude will eat for us so while I let these little pinky mice so while I let these little pinky's defrost I am going to be setting up the hawk in his new enclosure so this past week my dad got a big equipment shipment for his job so this is actually an empty box that's not being used so this is actually what I'm gonna be using for the Hawks home so I actually already set it up I put some blankets in there so he can rest and this is gonna be a nice big area for him to get raised up and it's nice and tall it's probably about three wrap up three three and a half feet tall so he can't climb out of it just yet and he doesn't have all of his feathers in so he can't fly out of it yet so this is gonna be just absolutely perfect for him so right now we are actually going to be adding him in instead of me handling him it's best for any baby animal like this you want to take a hands-off approach for any wildlife so I'm just gonna open this box up right here and I'm just gonna let them in hi dude your little baby well I actually may have to pick them up just so I can get them in I know I'm gonna get you fed in a minute it's gonna be okay a little dude okay guys so we do have the rodents thought out I put them out in the Sun I do have a glove in this hand just because the hawk has very sharp talons and it digs into my skin and it just doesn't feel good at all so I don't want to get my hand torn open so we're actually going to be feeding him right now so we're gonna get him right out of the box put the rodent here so we are about to get this little baby hawk out so when we get this guy out we want to do it in the least startling way as possible we don't want this guy to feel threatened we want them to feel as safe as possible so we're gonna do it as best as we can okay so before I do get started with the feeding I do want to tell you guys a little bit about this guy so this is a tiny little baby red-shouldered hawk well he's not really a baby but he is very young you can still see his feathers are real fluffy he still is gonna be molting his feathers and getting in all of his adult feathers it's probably gonna take about another month or two for them to fully get in but anyways you can find these guys all along the eastern border of the United States over in Mexico well this the the northern border of Mexico as well as all throughout California this is a bird of prey like I told you guys before so they do eat rodents small mammals all that good stuff so with these guys you want to imprint as least as possible so imprinting means it's basically like a baby you know and when you're raising a baby or you're raising a puppy the puppy will recognize you and come to you for food so in the wild we don't want this hawk to associate humans with food because then it puts him in jeopardy if he swoops down say people are eating outside of the restaurant he swoops down he wants something to eat and he can just become a nuisance bird so we don't want that to happen so so when we do take care of him we want to do it in the least in Asaph away as possible so we don't really want to bond with him so to say we really only want to interact with him when we got to feed him so we're gonna start feeding him right now you can already see he's hungry come on little dude you know so you can see right here yes eat come on come on come on little dude come on come on yep he's eatin look at that this awesome little dude just ate a little pinky good job so we're gonna get one more for him you still want to eat dude I know so at this age you kind of do have to force-feed a little bit some of them will take it right away but you just want to put it in the mouth the mother will do that I know yes yes mm-hmm I mean I know you can do it you can do it look at me he's got me with his towns right now okay you can swallow it yup yup yummy awesome so this guy just ate - I'm gonna try for a third with any baby birds of prey you can feed them as much as they do want to eat so his diet right now is gonna consist of little pinky mice as well as beef hearts you don't really want to feed them any insects they're just not healthy for them and you don't really want to feed them any brats you want to stick with mice the rats are gonna be really fatty for him and it's just not too healthy maybe it's a smaller one this one right here you want one more No so I don't think this guy wants any more rodents so we just gave them a good feeding so we're actually gonna put them in his box we're gonna let him rest and then this will actually be his dinner later on tonight probably around 9:00 or 10:00 at night is what I'm gonna feed them so we're gonna put them away right now here you go little guy change my glove look at him he tore my glove open from this challenge if you have a little blanket over here we're gonna cover up his enclosure halfway just so he feels a little more secure because at this age normally he's gonna be in a nest way high up in a tree all protected so right here he probably feels real exposed so we're just gonna cover it just like this and we're good to go so that is going to conclude yet another episode I hope all of you guys did enjoy watching this baby hawk rescue I absolutely loved rescuing animals in getting to nurse them back up to help so this little baby red-shouldered hawk is in great hands with me so later on I'm gonna do an update video probably in about two weeks and then I'm gonna do a final release video when we do release him back into the wild so if you guys have not already I want all of you guys to go give this video a thumbs up comment down below what you thought as well as subscribe so one thing I do want to tell all of you guys that if any of you guys do find any abandoned wildlife whether it be a bird a raccoon a possum a squirrel please do not attempt to rehab it on your own oftentimes people do not know what they're doing with the animals and at least their death because they are feeding it the wrong thing so if you do find any abandoned wildlife please report it to your local wildlife rehabber and give it to them thanks for watching and catch you next time
