foreign [Music] [Music] foreign [Music] [Music] welcome to the Fredericksburg Center for Creative Arts August RS Choice exhibition I'm Carol Morgan the curator of the Frederick gallery and I welcome you to come in in person or to visit on our website to see our exhibitions this month's members Gallery exhibitor is Matt Williams digital art and also our president of our organization this year the Fredericksburg Center for Creative Arts is located at 813 Sophia Street in Historic downtown Fredericksburg in the silversmith house we're open on Monday noon to four closed Tuesday Wednesday open Thursday and Friday noon to four Saturday 11 A.M to 4 and Sunday afternoons one to four we have extended hours every first Friday from noon until 8 30 p.m come join us and meet some of our artists at that time it's my pleasure to introduce to you the juror of this show Jennifer Bob I've known Jenny for several years and we used to kind of hang out there on Main Street in downtown Richmond where she and BJ postum had their gallery and after the pandemic they relocated to 111 North 18th Street in downtown Richmond in the wonderful shock Obama slab area so they're clubbing petite Gallery Goblin cousin petite Gallery is open to the public and by appointment uh Jennifer and her husband bijay have a wonderful art Consulting business in addition to the many other interests uh during the Bobby coats and gallery years Jennifer and BJ established their roster of artists as one of the most patronized art institutions in the Greater Richmond area they received numerous recognitions from Publications local and National and grew a client base should still reaches all over the nation they became one of the industry leaders in corporate Consulting and still have year-round exhibits at their branded location at Bobby cosen petite they also became Forefront in Consulting with artists to both for sales and business acumen then Jennifer knows the art business she knows good art she is the most enthusiastic person I know in downtown Richmond right now so welcome to our gallery of Jennifer hi my name is Jennifer glauve from the glove a coson Consulting in Richmond Virginia I wanted to thank Carol and Bob for inviting myself and my husband BJ to curate this August exhibition it was really hard actually to choose some winners but I feel like what BJ and I are looking for in our art at our space because we have bodycos and petite is quality work but also work that we can stand behind we are more of a transitional space so as a juror that's probably what I look for more than say photography or something like that so I do apologize for some photographers for that but I am here and very happy to be here to help Carol along with the federal Fredericksburg center for the creative arts so we had to choose four honorable mentions for this particular exhibit and it wasn't easy we actually could have chosen a lot more but we were only asked to do four and there were no particular order I guess this time they're going to be in alphabetical order but the first one that we've chosen or that's in alphabetical order is bro half so he is from kaloha Hawaii I think I said that right and so we chose this particular piece he has two in the exhibit this one is called bright hillsides Morton County North Dakota and one of the reasons I fell in love with this piece is not only the Simplicity of it it has a little bit of a touch of a demon horn Richard demon corn which I loved was with these flat fields that he has and I just found out that Kansas is oh not Kansas Kansas is one of the flattest States but North Dakota is one of five flattest states in the United States and after I saw his piece I was like that's for sure so we love this piece not only for the composition that he created but also he framed it very nicely and we just feel like his composition of all the colors work very nicely together so the next choice that we have for honorable mention is Barbara Taylor Hall she's from right here in Fredericksburg Virginia and this is one piece that my husband actually particularly loved it's called cheers and it was one of those things that you really want I mean you really think about happy hour um it's like one of those things you go right into the bar and you see all the glasses and the particular fruits and the glass the bottles set up but for me it was very dark and Moody like when you walk into a bar kind of gives you that kind of romantic feel but I know I've heard I have not met Barbara that this is a departure for her but I will say this is one of our favorite pieces for honorable mention our next honorable mention is cath loose who's also from Fredericksburg Virginia and this piece I tell you when I opened it up and saw this I BJ and I both were just overtaken with joy this is one of those paintings that you and honestly just look at have it in your house all year round even though it's Halloween and just make you smile when you walk in the room I the interesting thing is I represent an artist in Richmond who paints animals doing people things I know how difficult it is to actually have an animal a raccoon dance around a pumpkin so she actually has a lot of skill trying to figure out how they move their arms and legs that's not very easy but this particular piece when you come to see the show really look at all the details she has all these amazing colored pencil and gouache marks that are so detailed for up close almost looks like a photograph so BJ and I are wondering maybe she should write a children's book we thought that might be kind of fun because this is a really sweet painting so our fourth honorable mention is by Barbara powderly from Bumpus Virginia this particular piece I really loved because I grew up on a farm and so we had a lot of abandoned trucks that were in the area and so this one is called Apple Crown at Carter Mountain so I'm assuming this is probably one of the abandoned vehicles that would be at the particular apple orchard and I really loved how just the to detailed the truck but she did a lot of really quick loose brush Strokes in the foreground in the background just to make that truck stand out and I think she did a fabulous job so today I'm honored to give third place to Charlotte Richards from Fredericksburg Virginia this one's called smitted sailing and I do implore you to come in to the Fredericksburg center for the visual arts to take a look at this feast in person because you can't really tell until you get up close the detail that she has on the eyes and the beak as well as the wings set against the abstract you know the foreground the background is beautiful she just has a little kind of just a little touch of maybe a water or river but I really think she did a fabulous job on this and I think you guys need to come by and see it this piece is the second place winner for the month of August and this is Tanya Green from also Fredericksburg Virginia and my husband I got a big chuckle out of this because it is called home brew and so we thought she probably had fun painting the not only the mechanics of it but she probably really enjoys home brewing beer I would assume that's what that machine is that's what we're trying to figure out but we really thought the choice of her color and scale is very important to her we thought that she did the reflective surfaces of all the metal and the light and the shadow really just leads to not only the tightness of the painting but the abstraction as well but we really think Tanya has a knack for home brewing and last but certainly not least is first place for the month of August and Kevin wichello from Fredericksburg Virginia is the proud winner and this particular piece is called West the Western Star and so one of the things that really Drew us into this painting is not only the composition but he's sort of the Triangular aspect where you've got the adult the child and then the horse and the focal of up here in the in the middle so it really just brings you in and it almost makes you feel like you're a spectator wondering what in the world is going on are we getting ready for a rodeo which I think it is or could it be a circus so you're behind the scenes getting a glimpse of what's going on so we wanted to ask Kevin if we ever see him was this actually from your imagination or was it from an old photograph because it's an amazing story that you've been telling so we are happy to give you first place thank you Jennifer what a wonderful exhibition such a marvelous choice of I know the awards are difficult and you have to narrow it down to a few we thank you for making the selections and I realize that BJ is kind of absent but he's there watching us again so thank you very much for a wonderful job well done and hope you'll come back to the Fredericksburg Center for Creative Arts again we definitely will this is one of our favorite places in the state of Virginia so we'll be back I'll make BJ comments done uh please stay tuned with this video to watch a walk through the entire exhibition and to see the personal up close view
