around yeah I didn't play corner like all my whole life from I start playing football now nine years old I play safety I was a safety and a running back like a safety running back all the way to high school all right go to Purdue I want to be a running back receiver they were like now you're gonna be a safety it's all the safety all the way through Purdue and then I ran my forward at the combine they said you gonna be a corner yeah so I went to the corner I like man like when I first went the corner I was lost because I used to use playing safety you all 22 I'm back here and I'm now going the corner I was on the island had to go to the outside and all my friends are over there lonely no help after that third year that's what I finally clicked in one like okay I can't play this guy I can't cover drew heel I can't cover hump right so I can start covering those guy believed in it and then you know that's what I finally said okay I can play out here I complete that I played another 12 years over for me man it was really man it was it was y'all I mean you guys made the cornerback position fashionable again and I love ball Hawks so I used to watch you out there on the island and that guy come with that little quick step Hey oh that bother you gone I said yeah watching pride man [Music] [Applause] hey I want some of that I'm saying I want some of that man so watching y'all man three years is that's what did it for me I think we've taken bits and pieces even though Charles I remember watching it Charles play against Randy right and both you guys got outside leverage so you can see the ball come who is there okay the patience of this man you know and being watching Phil on this man right here girl I saw this somebody running a slant on him in the corner and I saw him speed turn I said lord I just rewound it okay I mean everybody we all we all take something from each other I got to ask you a question don't because all of you are thieves so what does that feel like you know it's something just you know in you to compete you know the competitiveness that you have inside you to just go out there and disrupt the offense and make turnovers I feel like his mind my bow you get into a game and all of a sudden you get two or three balls thrown your way you like to me you know so many time I was out there on the field it didn't matter who it was if you were coming to my side I felt like you've meant for this ball to be my ball but you know it's about me when you think about all the great players they all got the ride mm mm right but it's a mindset you know a lot of guys mindset is knocked down you know he was coaching in Raiders that he hated before that the interception this stuff was last thought for me it was like I'm getting a pig first yeah I knock the ball down if I can't get there and if you happen to catch it you know what I do I'm like reverse Oh always enough your mindset ball going here all ODB's thought ball goes in there is my ball what dogs don't dead no moles out everything is gonna be your great ones do play 95% of DBS play not to get beat that's let's get a place that's right they play not to get don't even throw the ball over here I want to just be clean white for the whole day probably four years into the lead like look man like man Japanese Allah said to me when I first came into the guys did you play it uh but I was taught that Bobby Butler set me on the stool he's they look you up felt you running up in there like you crazy cop he was a good player man see you got to protect them shows the longer you play the more money you make I said it's hard coming from my hair because I Joe Montana man was some special Dan Marino with some special Elway I could keep going on and on from my era that had great receivers Tom Brady is a classified bonafide winner in the early 2000s they won three or four now they have won three of the last five yes it's still a dynasty you play with on the Michigan right yeah okay man we came in together 95 you know people always ask you know hey man did you see that in Tom Brady and nobody could foresee you know six championships you know that's that's that's unreal that's unheard of but what you did see out of time is his competitive spirit Tom had that fire in he always thought he should have been the quarterback his whole time there he has that chip on his shoulder then he goes one hundred and ninety-ninth overall and that chip just continues to grow I just don't think he's ever lost it because it seems like people still doubt him in some way my boy is probably sitting there right now going you mean you're not gonna take up for me right Montana back to throw calls for the answer Joe did not like to lose yeah and he was gonna take your lunch money man he was all in I'm always about making the right decision how do you make the right decision all the time and that's something that you know to me tom has made a lot of right decisions right at the same time my boy never lost so I had an opportunity to actually play with with Tom rivals for six years okay so I was on the I was a one side playing for the Jets competing against them is studying to get some and then also team up with him to actually win a Super Bowl and when you're on the rival side you always you studying you're trying to figure this guy out weekend a week out we played them twice a year same conference we're just trying to figure this guy out like what does he have that I don't have what is driving him more than in my drive you know and when I had the opportunity to team up with him and I was around him every day I was like yeah this guy is the ultimate competitor is there anybody that you want it that you didn't give what about one yeah yeah I never got paid they even got me if I want to really get somebody would still be Tom because I mean and I said I said damn RAM is the best quarterback ever played against but I keep what's watching this this guy play of course he don't complain he doesn't go out there in ball [Music] Marino's drop they one pick ahead of me and I never got him that's my only guy didn't get yeah I want a brady man's but you don't break you know I got I don't know if I just got too excited yep but I looked up and the ball was there and I reached my hands out and all I saw was sideline and that ball went down my leg of my knee to the sideline man I just I passed out we all got to talk about one that you took to the house is dancing my baby one was Atlanta because it you know where it came from it came from studying mm-hmm like I saw it right trips I knew what was coming so I said there you go can I just set an end zone and just kind of chill and when he do it Dwight Clark I'm gonna pick off a ball I'm gonna go down inside that and I'm my house I want to know because you talked about you know getting wisdom what's something that somebody told you that kind of stuck with you right off that's because I remember talking to you when I was a young baby in the game his words would be were stay low and always do some extra and that was it so now every time somebody comes to me I say man listen you know what prime told me a long time ago stay low always do some next thing you say that nobody said anything to me but I got on the bus and the pro-bowl my second year but this guy right here didn't what they said is how they embraced me you know scared chicken you know in eighth they made me feel like I was somebody you know we forget that the greatness of life is to have people do what you just said and give you the wisdom and then share with you and talk to you about it and and to me that's what I love about being here today is that soaking it in more importantly that you had a conscious idea of wanting to be the best everybody sold out this week everybody damn is great isn't it players can help you and they give you the insight of how they see the gang to which is always great to see because you never know there's something that you can put on your tool belt you can't do everything that they do but you can probably take something but then if you can get to a certain spot where coaches let you be you because the best players are who they are they let you be you until you know who you are I'm saying a lot of coaches some coaches will make you a robot the best coaches that I've been around have been coaches who let me be who I was let me celebrate that way I want to celebrate let me speak to I want to speak let me do my own technique with inside of the framework of the defense and then once I see it believe and go get it every coach would let you do that 95% of our country of followers man absolutely that's right he's only fabulous in that elitist that's right and just happens to beat this table is leaders that know how to lead but the most of the country is followers man that's that's really easy thing to do and you people have played no man I mean played this game and we sit in a pen you know today you think you can beat me during the season no I'm not letting happen Jets cornerback Darrelle Revis signing his new contract ending that 36 day hold out for years 46 million dollars at 32 million dollars guarantee I love how you've done it and how are you went about it you bent on you and we all have been in that situation where you're trying to get a deal done and and you just don't have the leverage and and I love that you bet it on you and you were able to make that happen you knew his work right they knew his work yeah you know your work and also you know paving the way for the position I think everybody at this table have passed that torch this position that we played and we've mastered it some 10 year old kid right now is trying to master it is he's looking at guy that you go that you look at and you go I just love the way that they ball is there one guy on the field that I think one guy that I watched last year and uh you know I was critical of him when he came from his former team he was with with the Buffalo Bills then he went over to the Patriots and that's Gilmore I thought the way he stepped his game up I don't know what it is what they doing over there when the Patriots like a rule or practice what what they are doing they have six check I don't know but I thought the way he played and the way he showed out in that Super Bowl could have been a Super Bowl MVP takes the snap Harmon out of this year I thought he stepped his game up you as far as you know the Gilmore players now Gilmore the baller you know I like jaylen I think he's a tremendous asset like I would hope that he would be more of a technician over the course of time cuz you just playing with so much not letting nobody because he is very very talented what a play by jaylen he made up ground and he picked it off in the middle of the end zone I think he's very smart and savvy also it's his growth this is growth he has all the tangibles to take the DB position to the next level of field I like that Peterson man because the first day he came into the NFL he went to the one day one he went to the one and he hadn't stopped going to the one so he may get beat here now but he's playing against the dog so I like I like Pat man are we saying playing good I got one day sit around this table right now yeah the only way yeah I mean come you know someone who can play good I mean I'm pretty critical I mean I'm talking about don't ask me but I mean sitting around this table I do like the fact that Pat been there long time and like you said day one give me this guy
