FAVORITE NEW HAMMER. CUSTOM 5LB HAND FORGED

hey folks let's make a hammer I'm gonna be making myself a new one-handed 5 pound sledgehammer the first step let's weigh this bar to determine how much we need to cut off 11 pounds 5 ounces nine and a half inches so we'll do 11 point we'll just say it was six ounces right there's 16 ounces in a pound though so it'd be 11 and a quarter we'll say eleven point two five divided by nine point five so that's one point one a little over 1.1 pounds an inch so five pounds five inches is going to give us six pounds after forging and grinding / it's x 4.75 so that's probably what I want to go for is four and three quarters of an inch should give me enough material for a five pound I'll do four in seven eight when 7/8 of an inch will shoot for 5 pounds finished product oh that's straight not accuracy my middle name first step upsetting and resizing this block of steel [Music] spice [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] [Music] or she's hot oh I needed that this is a disaster and cut to right now [Music] [Music] [Applause] oh the gate [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] yeah this is not turning out what I really was gonna do [Music] all right we are near the end of the forging process this last step let's go a an all-or-nothing step because I need to drift it again but the drift the eye is kind of deformed more than I so putting the drip through might be a little rough we'll see how it goes [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] testing testing testing testing oh there we go we'll just hey guys it does oh maybe that's why I don't wear my respirator we're not doing live demos on grinding [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] Oh funny bone oh I do the hit I did this and hit my funny bunny here at all [Applause] [Music] [Music] [Applause] hammer is going back into the forge now to be well to be heated up to put the final finish on it I've ground this with 80 grit and I'm going to add a little bit of scale to it so it doesn't just look all shiny do that in the propane Forge [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] two tenths of an ounce of shy of five pounds my thorough head start over I miscalculated well the meticulous numbers I ran two tenths of a doubt shy you're they work guys I don't think it's a failure think it's good yeah maybe if I lay it this way it'll be different dang it it's so cool it's like it doesn't look like it's five pounds but it's compact this is my six pounder and you can see how much larger it is we're really only a pound heavier hmm hammers ready to be heat-treated now I'm done with the fortune grinding and logo finishing of the hammer it is it turned out pretty neat it's very compact you will see it in future videos for axe production this is gonna I'm going to hope that this can be my one-handed sledgehammer for pounding and drifts so look it used pretty heavily if you enjoyed this video if you enjoyed watching forging and want to see more forging in the future you may consider subscribing thanks and I'll see you next time
