Father meets the son he never knew he had after Ancestry.com match

now as we posed a an incredible moment 50 years in the making a father meeting the son he'd never knew he had and TJ you were here with this incredible story and you were there the moment that they finally met yeah I've been in this business a long time one of the coolest stories I've ever seen and again imagine you're 70 something years old you've lived your whole life you got children grandchildren then you get a phone call and says hey we've never yet met but I'm your son this is life-changing it really is Tom Newman is on edge he's about to meet his son for the first time a son that for 50 years he never knew he had he wants to be embraced well he's my son so we was there embracing Jim Hayes grew up in a loving Midwestern home his dad was a policeman his mom a waitress there were no secrets in this house I was always aware that I was adopted I also have an adopted brother we talked about it openly in his 20s Jim became curious about his biological parents he reached out to the adoption agency but they could only disclose a little information about his birth mother he found her reached out but she didn't want to meet him I was a little bit perturbed like how you know how could this be I was probably more surprised than anything I did ask her about the birth father and she wasn't willing to share anything 20 years went by Jim and his wife had three kids but he always wondered then just last year friends encouraged him to take a DNA test with ancestry.com it came back with unexpected results it says you know father child at night I dig deeper and it says but you are a match this this is your parent and it gives the initials but there's no name it was a moment he had waited for his entire life but now what what do you do with the initials after months of internet research he figured out that the initials TN stand for Tom movement a man living in California married for 44 years to wife Susan with two children of their own last March Jim gave his birth father a call Susan pixel in there he started asking questions and what kind of well what's happening here I said well you know are you sitting down and I said why well it shows on ancestry.com that we have a father-son relationship and I'm not the father long pause right now even as I tell you is like what he said immediately like he didn't know he wasn't shying away from the storyline and in the conversation but he was he was very surprised and so I said I really need that Ponder's to think about this all but it was kind of like it took us back to all it took me back both of yes Tom had a brief relationship before he was married apparently when they broke up she was pregnant and never told Tom and gave baby Jim up for adoption Tom and Jim talked on the phone for months but couldn't wait to meet I have a great family now and uh Wow three months after that first phone call father and son are meeting for the first time at Jim's home along with some of their children and friends as we stand here right now we are literally talking about minutes away from something fifty years in the making what have you imagined I think he's gonna lose it so I can just get out of it together now you know that I'm just putting two and two together Jim here we come you have a just a child for 50 years and didn't know about it it's kind of like wow sorry for what a reunion 50 years in the making sorry had to wait 50 years for this but a specialist has two families coming together as one like Jim meeting the big family he never knew he had it worked out the way maybe it was supposed to work out we both had good lives and now work now we have a great chance of catching up and making new memories my last thing I have to say is what I said calling him son and strahan is crazy to think that he said that things worked out the way they were supposed to and the way they worked out was for these two men to not know each other for 50 how can you ever say you were better off by not knowing your dad but these two men see it as this was a part of life's journey and now these two families are together and on a brand-new journey on a brand-new journey and I mean what a what an incredible Father's Day give as well and I want to say Happy Father's Day to all the fathers that we have here with us this morning thank you guys for being here we'd really appreciate it well hey there GMA fans Robin Roberts here thanks for checking out our YouTube channel lots of great stuff here so go on click the subscribe button right over right over here to get more of awesome videos and content from GMA every day anytime we thank you for watching and we'll see you in the morning on GMA
