tuesday march 1 2021 first day of march tuesday afternoon report it's not monday morning quarterbacking it's tuesday afternoon quarterbacking i've often been accused of monday morning quarterbacking this particular case this is tuesday afternoon quarterbacking and yes i'm going to tuesday afternoon quarterback very serious subject here today a fatal crash in atlanta here my hometown atlanta georgia gainesville georgia and let's take a quick look at that it was november uh it's a 182 rg november 3652 charlotte gainesville georgia had three on board daniel del noche his brother matt del noche and courtney flanders uh deeper sympathy and and uh condolences to these family and friends i didn't know this pilot but i have friends that did very well respected nice guy good instrument pilot and uh terrible tragedy for that um the uh the accident was in uh gainesville georgia and i've got a graphic to show you up there on that has to do with monday morning quarterbacking but it's tuesday afternoon quarterbacking we're going to talk a lot more about that in the upcoming future i took a deep dive on reddit and the anonymous world of haters on reddit fascinating story and i'm going to give you all the back story and information on that but let's get back to monday morning quarterbacking or tuesday afternoon quarterbacking when i first looked at this crash this to me looked like a structural failure in flight which we're kind of suspicious of anyway because of some of the pipers that have got the wing spar problem and the ads let's look at the ad that's on cessna's right now the cessna ad for struck to prevent structural failure any of these airplanes can fall apart in flight oh yeah go ahead where are you at uh i'm in the garage i'm cleaning the garage are you feeling okay yeah i feel i feel fine i'm just cleaning the garage i'm i'm working hard are you really in the garage no but i will be i'll i'll get to cleaning the garage but i'm making a video right now so um i gotta go i knew it all right sorry the ad cessed ads to prevent wings falling off in flight and uh let's look at that ad real quick and here's the airplanes that affect this has to do with aging aircraft aging airplane aircraft get old and they have structural problems they develop cracks you're flying along in flight and you're resigning you're you're relying on this structure to help you stay in flight this problem started back in 1931 with a newt rockne crash i'll show you a slide here in 1931 the wing fell off of the airplane that nuke rockley was flying on he was a notre dame football coach flying along minding his own business and when the wing fell off of that airplane so i went and visited that crash site this is a hard crash site to find it's even harder one to get to but there's actually a memorial out there that somebody's built and me and drew made it up there to that memorial site a couple years ago so here's a picture of that um the zest 80 what is an 80 and 80 is air worthiness directive it tells owners some things that they have to do to keep the airplanes in annual and flying mandatory inspections based on previous accidents that have happened um always involving a fail for something has happened so there's been some structural problems on all the airplanes that needed spar updates web kits updates things like that so when this crash happened up in gainesville and some of the control surfaces and pieces landed not with the airplane it sure looked like it was going to be a structural failure in flight um that crash was just friday afternoon a few days ago um so i looked at it a little bit and then today had a chance to look at a little bit more got some more information came in i'm gonna back off the structural failure in flight concept on this and it's uh i'm leaning more towards um number three on my on-screen graphic here this is uh intentional imc after takeoff this is uh this is looking like the airplane was together when it hit the ground at its first impact point it just scattered debris and here's a path that i've drawn in yellow if you can see it on your on-screen graphic right now this is the approximate flight path of the airplane and this is classic distraction after takeoff probably talking to atc hitting ident doing all those things that atc tells you to do remember i preached this that flight shops video after takeoff first thousand feet you fly that airplane don't answer the radio don't do anything get that airplane going up and under control this looks like a right hand not spatial disorientation this looks like a right descending turn right into the ground it was hard imc that day instrument pilot looks to me and that's just a guess on my monday morning quarterbacking i think they just drove it right straight in the ground which is a huge problem always a problem we'll find out a little bit more but that's my best educated guess as as of right now i don't think anything fell off the airplane prior to impact um the ntsb is going to take us three years to divulge what they think and then there's not going to be any recommendations off of it anyway so uh that's that that's all i've known it's just a couple days ago uh very horrible crash for everybody involved a couple housekeeping items here um schedule march 11th once again lebanon tennessee i think we're pretty full for that but uh that's an ea chapter i'll be doing the a q p presentation we're going to actually sacrifice a small child at this uh it's going to be great i'm playing the banjo got a bluegrass band there's food and all that kind of stuff so uh eaa has donated a child for the evening for me to uh use on stage which is going to be great i feel sorry for that poor little kid whoever it turns out to be it's gonna be a lot of fun march 27th i'll be in iowa falls iowa april 2 grand haven michigan ea chapter 211 going up there to uh meet with those guys have a good time it's another hanger party up there contact eaa 211 that's april 2 april 15 16 17. i'll be down to sun and fun i'm not doing anything in particular except playing my banjo and drinking coffee be hanging with black valeria juan brown and a couple of the other buddies that do youtube stuff a lot of fun um this one i'm really excited about october 22 i'll be speaking at the mooney summit that's for moonee owners um the mooney summit's gonna be down in florida that's october 22 23 i'm not exactly sure the dates uh but that's a fantastic location and the mooney summit will be down there november 16th is an eaa chapter i'm going to speak um at that at vero beach florida november 16th i'll get you more information on that later on those are the dates i got so far filled in kind of coming out of the covid thing now so the uh the summertime fun stuff and and speaking stuff um once again i'm not charging anything to speak if i can come and help your group um i'd be glad to do it i take care of my own travel my own food there's this isn't a he does mostly singles and twins but i'm going to give you some more information on that in the next four or five days as he launches his youtube channel documenting he's uh going to use his cell phone showing the airplanes that he's flying and where he's at totally cool i'm not going to tell you who it is yet but look forward to that i'm really jazzed to get him set up and going because he
