hi I'm Kevin Southwick and I'm going to show you how to take care of those annoying little dust nibs and hairs the coat of varnish to do this I'm going to use some really simple tools 400 grit sandpaper and a felt block to back it up steel wool of good quality this is for zero steel wool made by Libba Ron I'm going to back that up with the felt also and some soapy water the first step is to quickly shear off the little dust nibs using 400 grit paper and the felt sanding block this should happen fairly quickly and easy with very light pressure on the sanding block I save the edges for last so I can be extra careful so I don't cut through the end the next step is to use the good quality 4-0 steel wool fold it up nicely from the roll I cut the end off and backing it with the felt block I'm going to rub very lightly again very little pressure to remove the scratches from the 400 grit paper I didn't in the third step I'll use the soapy water to lubricate my steel wool that will reduce the cutting action and help me remove the fine scratches remaining from the steel wool a circular motion works best and is okay to do because there'll be no marks from this the sanding scratches are so small that they're invisible to the eye okay we'll check that now I'll use my hand to test the surface and see if I've got that silky smooth feel I was hoping for and a very nice satin Sheen overall if the sheen was uneven I could repeat that last step with the steel wool on soapy water to even it out but this is looking at feeling really good it's important not to overwork any of the steps in this quick easy process or you'll be removing more finish than you need to
