Fallout 4's Next Gen update is coming in just a couple of days now we don't have full details on everything that's being fixed and adjusted and added I do wonder if we'll get proper patch notes it's Bethesda so that's a bit of a dice roll fingers crossed though right but we do know that the update like pretty much all game updates from Bethesda for any of their creation engine games Fallout Skyrim Starfield will more than likely break a bunch of mods this update will probably break more mods than the average update because it's a much more significant one I'm going to dig in for a couple of minutes on how and why they're breaking but if you're just here for the mod list itself there's a timestamp on screen for you there now with some luck the update will reduce the need for certain mods that currently fix patch and work around existing known issues because well hopefully beable to fix those things live in Hope but there's dozens upon dozens upon dozens upon dozens of highly popular mods content mods Quality of Life mods graphical mods all kinds of mods that will absolutely all break all at once and because of the same reason and that's because quite a lot of mods for Fallout 4 are built on top of an underpinning mod it's called f4s The Fallout 4 script extender it doesn't actually do anything on the surface to change the game itself but what it does do is add a bunch of stuff that modders can hook into in order to make more extensive mods deeper mods more complicated mods a lot easier and a lot faster than doing it all from scratch for each and every single individual mod unfortunately thanks to the very nature of f4s is lower level behavior and how it bites into certain structures of the file directories and components and basic systems of the Fallout 4 install it will without doubt absolutely break in half when the new nextg update comes along now be thda themselves have said they've worked really really hard to make sure the update doesn't break a bunch of mods but any mod that relies on f4se we can absolutely rely on just just not working being broken now the C buggers who maintain it know this and they are already preparing to fix it we just don't know how long that will take because it's not as if they're getting paid for this they're all volunteers doing it for the Love of the Game and because they don't know how long it's going to take because they don't get special early access to the new patch so they can look at it or test a damn thing they won't get it until we all get the nextg update right on launch day so maybe it takes a couple of hours maybe it takes a few weeks there is truly no way to be sure right now but in a couple of days time the Fallout 4 nextg update will land and I will at last be starting my new and long delayed live stream to playthrough of Fallout 4 I've been waiting on the Next Gen update since it was announced in 2022 to do this pity it took so long but also obviously nice that it's coinciding with the massive hype train coming off the back of the very enjoyable TV show the game itself has seen massive spikes in players and now has more concurrent players on Steam alone than it's had since December 2015 shortly after its original launch but I've been preparing for a few days now already working on a build plan creating a bit of a backstory for the roleplay elements and war crimes Nate is nearly ready for the big day but I've also been looking at what mod I want to be using and I know I know I just said a metric crap ton of mods are going to break but I also said that the mods based on F4 SE are the ones we know will break some mods hopefully will remain unaffected or at least be fast and easy to patch if the Creator still is maintaining the mod at all and frankly quite a lot aren't they moved on to other things years ago sadly the photo mode mod that I wanted to use for cool screenshot relies on f4s so that that's out that will absolutely be broken very annoying I do love Mia photo mode hopefully this one comes back to life soon but I have been trying to find a selection of useful Quality of Life mods mods that don't really change the basic gameplay too much I want a fairly vanilla experience but will make my new playthrough better in some ways and of course I've been trying to find mods that don't rely on f4s but make lighter easier changes like companion infinite ammo which while it hasn't hasn't been updated since 2016 does seem to still be working according to the comment I haven't had much time to test this one myself so I'm not exactly sure but it seems fine but my feeling is if it didn't get broken with the last half decade or so of patches it'll probably be okay with the next gen patch right it is going to reduce the amount of micromanaging I need to do with companions you see by default there standard weapon the default weapon has infinite ammo they can shoot it as much as they like you never have to worry about it but if you give them a new weapon a better weapon a more powerful weapon just just a weapon that more suits your play style or whatever it will need and constantly consume ammo that you will need to actively keep giving your companion whenever they run low this mod makes it so any gifted Gun Works the same way as the default one infinite ammo improved map with visible rows it has also not been updated since 2016 but it does still work I have tested this one myself already on the current patch of the game works perfectly and unless something very drastic happens to the game's file structure it should in theory still work for Next Gen update too this one just makes the pit boy map display much easier to read and thus easier to plan a navigation route by making terrain and roads in particular a lot more visible move get out the way if you've never played Fallout 4 before you won't know the absolute object Fury that an NPC can generate by standing in and blocking The Passage through a doorway or narrow room you are trying to walk through it is infuriating this mod fixes that by making them respond to you bumping into them and triggering them to path away from you literally you shove them out of the way a little bit in my own testing it seems to not work properly anymore but I do consider it a vital K mod so if anyone with modach chops is listening please make a new version of this please I'm begging you the only reason this is in this list is so I can ask and beg for that and also to point out that you might want to keep an eye out for an updated mod that does this because it is wildly frustrating longer power lines I've tested this one again and it's still works on the current patch it hasn't seen an update since the launch of the game in 2015 so if it hasn't broken yet once more it should in theory survive the next gen patch too what it does is fastly extend how far your power cables can run in the build mode which in the vanilla version of the game is infuriatingly short leading to a lot of mess and clutter and extra pylons and GH I hate it so much it's a must-have if you like base and cinnamate building in my opinion faster terminal displace another really lovely quality of life one yet another one that survived since 2016 without a single update and I have tested again this one myself and it still works perfectly all it does is speed up the agonizer inly slow terminal displays making the text all appear almost instantly instead of typing letter by letter slowing than even your granddad can type it's a small thing but man does it make using terminals so much nicer Rich Merchants another one that's survived untouched since launch and one more I've tested personally on the current version of the game and it still works all it does is give the NPC vendors in the game significantly more caps in their pockets making selling stuff off you don't need a lot less fuss and Fiddle the next one's only really important for streamers and video content creators copyright free Diamond City radio replacer for Let's Plays and streams you see the in-game radio stations can and will play third party licensed music and as some baby content creators are currently discovering as they hop on board the hype train and veterans are rediscovering it can and will trigger a dmca strike on platforms like YouTube and twitch which is pretty problematic so you can either completely mute the audio for the in-game radios in the game menu or you can use this mod that replaces those problematic tracks with stuff that should be safe or at least safer I'll be doing both I'm going to have the radios at low volume and up using this mod that should be fine I've done it that way before in the past and it hasn't been an issue now finally No Cap collector or local leader low Charisma settlements for some reason but there decided to lock a massive pile of settlement content behind a perk that is buried quite deep in the Charisma tree which is really annoying if you're running a build without room for high Charisma but you still want to engage in the settlement system this mod fixes that allowing access to some pretty basic settlement stuff without having to deeply invest in the Charisma perk system to get at it I've tested this one too and it does seem to work just fine right now too I'm a little more dubious about whether this one will survive the Next Gen update but we'll see but yeah those are the mods that I've picked out that I want to be using for my new playthrough I might add one or two more I don't know yet I'm going to have another poke around today but I'm hoping these all should survive the Next Gen update just fine if you are poking around Nexus looking for mods for yourself watch out for mods that have no other dependencies there'll be a little twill down menu saying hey this mod relies on this and this and this look for the ones that don't rely on anything else especially f4s those are guaranteed to break and look for months that haven't needed an update in a long while but still have users actively reporting that they work fine in current year those are the kinds of mods that I'm expecting should survive no promises of course but you know this is your best bet hopefully this has been helpful good luck out there and please pop a follow over on Twitch if you're curious about my own PC nextg playthrough which will be starting this weekend should be a bunch of fun thanks for watching I am blunty thank you as always to the patreon scrolling up above there appreciate you guys very very
