FALL EQUINOX! | Birch tree painting of birch leaves on birch panel!

foreign welcome back my name is Caroline I'm an artist art teacher and murals from Portland Oregon and on this channel I release a new video every single week of all things artsy fartsy today is the first day of fall and we are celebrating the fall equinox by painting a beautiful fall painting in today's video I'm going to be showing you how I use Birch leaves on a birch panel to create a birch tree painting so stick around and celebrate fall with me with a birch tree birch leaf painting on Birch wood don't forget to hit that like And subscribe button down below and with that all said let's get painting [Music] all right so here's my unprimed Birch panel and a handful of leaves I found outside near a birch tree of my neighbors but I'm not sure if these are actually Birch leaves or not but it doesn't matter because this is the very first layer going down and we just need to get some color on the panels so I'm going to go ahead and brush some paint on this Leaf here like so and then I'm going to be pressing it on the panel with a little bit of pressure and gently lifting it off and some of that color will come off and we're just basically going to repeat this process for a lot of time until the whole thing is covered so again this is the very first layer so it does not have to be perfect as you can see they're not all the paint came off so it's not a clean pressing but like I said it doesn't matter we're just trying to get color down we're going to be using lots and lots and lots of layers of these Leaf pressings to build up our background so again we are going to be using some Birch leaves that I have for my own birch tree in the backyard I know for a fact that is a birch tree and so I got those from there but these leaves I found out front look like they came from a different type of birch tree in my neighbor's yard however they kind of look like Maple Leaves I don't know maybe they are some different type of birch leaf but anyways so I'm going to be using that for the very first layer of the yellow and gold and then we're going to be using some of my leaves here with a little bit of green I think that adds a really nice contrast against all that orange and red and yellow and as you can see here these are definitely Birch leaves that I got off of my birch trees in the backyard I have a couple different shapes and sizes the mature ones actually get skinnier and the younger ones are actually the fatter ones so now I'm just going to repeat this process until the whole thing is pretty much full of color [Music] laughs foreign [Applause] [Music] [Music] okay so now I'm just going in with a paintbrush and some watered down yellow paint and I'm just gently tapping it in in the blank spots and filling that in with a little bit of color okay so now I'm just going to take my palette knife here and I've mixed in some phthalo blue with some white for the shadow side and pure white for the light side and I'm using my palette knife and just gently scraping it across to create the trees and birch trees tend to be pretty straight they can be slightly curved but not too much so these trees are going to be mostly straight they might have a slight Bend to them but nothing too dramatic and then I'm just going to go in with a little bit darker blue for the few birch trees that are closest to us here [Music] [Applause] [Music] foreign [Music] foreign [Music] there you go everyone a beautiful painting of birch trees using birch leaf pressings on a birch panel I hope you guys are having a beautiful first week of fall and I'll see you guys all next week bye
