you never know no it's not now it is there it goes hey everyone hello hello we're seeing one thing over here and one thing over here you never know when you're when you're live or you're not live exactly that's that's the joy of live streaming you never know if it's going to work here or if it's going to work over there or if it's going to work at all i know right yeah finally see it just started going we smiled for 16 minutes right there [Laughter] we finally started going all right there we go um hello everyone and welcome to after hours here at linda's electric quilters um we are super excited to be joining you this evening we're as we take a look at using panels and you know not just their natural state kind of taking you like what i did there that was good yeah um kind of switching it up and using it as different things and panels are a great way to expand your piecing capabilities because you get so much on that one little section you can cut it up into strips squares blocks squares and blocks are the same thing but that's what you can do so many different ideas exactly exactly so i just think that's super fun that we can um we're going to show all that and i lost my page where's my what'd you do to my page well why you find your page as always make sure you subscribe to our channel i promise you are more professional than it shows up tonight it's going to be right down at the bottom right hand corner after you click on that subscribe button make sure you click on the little bell that shows up so you can get notified whenever we post new videos whenever we go live here at after hours and whenever we go live on our morning show good morning leq and if you haven't had a chance to watch those episodes they are great we're coming up on episode 8 tomorrow where it's going to be titled fall is in the air weather is changing so we're just going to be jabbing for about 30 minutes and that's our kind of our job session um that we do there did you find your page i did okay you see i filled in time really nice there for you i was like well i went to my little page i knew there was one that had tons of words i'm like i didn't write that that much talking tonight like where am i in it anyway anyway all right so what are we looking at well first thing we want to do is ask you how many of you have used panels um in your quilt projects you've asked a question in a while i know i haven't totally haven't caught on to that i know wow okay so how many of you have used panels in your quilt projects do you like them um do you do you find that they're easier to put a quilt together really quick um i find that they are a lot easier like to put something together really really quick but then you know i'm always he always says why don't we do something with that panel and i'm like just put a border on it she loves just throwing a border on things which is great that is a great thing and that's a great step to take especially like from the uh border video that you did when you when you started kind of piecing together it's a great step to take but also looking a little further at what else that panel can be besides just a border on a border on the border has some really cool effects on what you can do and i have a few pictures and then we're going to talk about some um here on the overhead camera fun okay all right we got all kinds of people coming in so we're super excited to see you all okay where do we go first you just want to go over ahead and start looking at them yeah let's do that so what we are going to do is we're going to go overhead and diana's going to move the ipad so it's not on the way there we go all right so we're going to go ahead and this first uh panel that we're looking at comes in five different color variations if i'm not mistaken and this one is called amethyst these are called bolt panels they're by hoffman they just kind of came out and people are still kind of grasping to what they can do to them well yeah you look at it and you're like well i'm not sure what i can do with that yeah there's just like okay there's not much to follow there um so i'll show you what you can do this one is amethyst yep um thank you and this one is magenta these are just two of the two of the five we just grabbed two of them really quick we have over 40 panels we won't show you them all yeah 48 right now i'm counting i wasn't counting or anything before definitely go check our website for panels when you're done yeah okay so if you'll leave that one there for me um let's take a look at how they were put together from a different standpoint okay so right now these panels um currently are about 43 inches square but this is one route that i took i love using these hoffman panels and putting one on point in the center and then using another one to create the corners which ends up making it about 60 by 60 give or take depending on what your um seam seam allowance is and what your cutting ways are but what we're going to do and i'm going to go back overhead so you can see what i mean is i've got a bolt panel you can do this with the holidays with the dahlias any of those hoffman ones that are square like this and i'm going to put it basically on point give or take and what you'll do with your other panel we're going to use the amethyst and magenta is you're going to cut with this panel from corner to corner you're going to do that across that and it's going to make it basically a half square triangle piece so i'm going to fold this just to mimic that so corner to corner i'm gonna fold that here this is what it is it's very so what he just showed you is so it's stunning when i looked at it i'm like that is so pretty i'm like and it really is taking two panels i'm doing it two panels make it a little larger all right and then another cut which should have been this way yeah so that's the piece you'll end up with four pieces just like this once you get it all cut um i would recommend whenever you get a nice fold go ahead and press it and then you can easily use a ruler and cut down with a straight line so when they kind of go like this on the outskirt shape yes yeah that's right that's where i'm going hold on so once you have that piece now you have those four and they would end up attaching right here yeah so you've got one here one here and then you'd have one on the other sides as well um with that seam allowance too so i can kind of put it in there so it looks like i did i hide the little white salvage part but you can end up putting those together and it ends up making about a 60 by 60 so a really quick project to put together um for someone if you were trying to make something really fast and it's just two panels and you could do that with any of them and so you pick out your two favorite colors and make a really quick a really nice pretty throw too right and that's something you can throw over your couch or anything right now all right why don't you show the pillows that you made with it so then this is with the bolt uh the fire one and i've been looking for orange pillows for my bed because i'm changing the seam in the room and with these you these are 18 by 18 pillow forms and it i probably should have positioned them a little different to get more from the fabric but you can cut and make pillows out of these and if you kind of cut right there in the center where the bolt is in the center right here if you have them laying up on your bed like this it looks like that bolt is then shooting out of the pillow which looks really really cool and then i've got a nice little slip backing right here that those pillows can go in and there's a video on our site on how we can make sure that looks like the video the video that we did on that um but yeah so taking this bolt panel you can make these cool pillows you could do smaller ones larger ones if you want to start big and work your way small on the way out oh yeah there's so many things you can do with panels and this is just a couple of things exactly another thing pick any of the panels and you can do that yep all right so let's go on to the next one okay so i'm gonna flip this one over and this was kind of a fun one we got in this one was called uh this one's called um noah's story fabric thank you yeah so basically cory open up the other side real quick sorry and you have all these it's a book this is the coolest thing in the world so it has all the instructions on the bottom so it comes with it and they're very easy instructions to follow or you can take it and cut them off into blocks which is what the customer came in here and that's what she was going to do she cut all these into box and then she was going to put them into her own little quill put some sashing in between it and have a little baby quilt with them no there's something she's like i don't i don't want the book i want to turn it into a quilt yeah but it's but i just love how you like you said there's the instructions right here so if you want to do make it and make it into a book book yeah um or you know you have some of those um there's that what's that stuff called now it's hitting me it's in our cabinet over there that crinkly material the crinkle paper you can put that in between these layers and the the the make noise it makes a little noise and great too loud but enough to get the yeah it's kind of get the sensory stuff moving yeah that one's really cool so using that panel to make a book um this one is called a child's prayer and it's about let's roll these under so they can actually oh yeah see what the panel is it doesn't have those leaves on the side there so this one's called a children's child's prayer it's a nice size but what's cool about this is it's very it's narrow but very long so what this could end up being is a play mat yeah and i like this because it's um you know you think of now i lay me down to sleep and it's actually they kind of change it around a little bit now i lay me down to sleep i pray the lord my soul to keep may god go guard me through the night and wake me up the morning light oh that's good that's usually the other way that's another way around but now but for the play mat so what was your playmat idea so with the play mat we have this batting i don't know if you've ever used this one before um but it's called cloud loft yeah and it has a nice thickness to the polyester i mean get this in packages you have to buy a whole roll of it this is just a queen size package you can use it quite some time um but it's got a good dense pot almost a half inch yeah it gets really thick after it airs out yeah after it blows up all the way it's non-outer delicious non-allergenic so perfect for the kids washable not going to shrink because it's pure polyester yeah which is great and you can just throw that in that mat which is going to give some good feeling yeah when the child's laying on that yeah we've had a lot of people buy the larger stuff like that 16 ounce 20 ounce in that to be able to um what am i doing i was just having you look at the comments make sure we're getting any questions where were you going with that story though oh no and that make that's what they do they make those those little maps stones stow and go maps [Music] using them for different quilts baby quilts veteran quilts things like that it's just a good it's a they're easy good projects just to put together quickly yeah you know we have some people that have just cut them up they've never used the whole piece so this is getting good i understand that i understand that that's a really good one for just making a like we said a play mat so think of panels all in different ways that's what we're doing tonight showing you different ways you can use a panel wrap this around so then this one is so this one is called uh fall splendor harvest and just a reminder all these are uh currently on our website longarmsupplies.net and this one would be great banner for the holidays it should be a great banner on this one you could put on the door even you could yeah like a really flat batting put some black binding on it or whatever frame it like a picture i could frame it yeah kind of cut a dark brown binding maybe it's gonna look like a wood wood grain wood frame yeah that'd be pretty um so one thing about this is if you let me pull this up here like this if you took this and you brought your backing just to this line right here this yellow line uh when you're quilting or whenever whatever you're doing if you're stitching in the ditch down just for something easy but bring your backing to stop right there at that yellow line then you could run to the store and grab a dowel rod or a little piece of pvc pipe and roll this underneath and now you basically then have a sleeve that you can stitch down easily put that dowel rod through there piece of string you've got your banner that you're wanting exactly yeah awesome good idea so you can go straight to that one on there so then i'd mimic that right here as well so how to take a quick little panel that looks like a banner throw some stuff on it do some quick design and put a dowel rod in there call it done call it done and call it done okay what's our next one oh show that this is like this one this is got a good idea too um so if i don't know if you remember um when we did what was it you were coming up with new decor for your home yeah you just built this house beautiful home um and you said i want artwork so we went shopping for artwork for my mom and uh if you've ever bought artwork before they're proud of it rightfully so rightfully so just like we're proud of our quilts but it was going to be a lot and you didn't know if it's exactly what you wanted in the house at the time yeah exactly it was extremely expensive to get the size that i wanted for the wall and i'm like i think we could just make this with fabric we could just make it with fabric because it bit you were you were going to have to buy something that wasn't exactly what she wanted but you just wanted to fill up the wall yeah and then these pants not this particular one but these panels came in yeah and you said i've got this idea let me build a frame behind it i went to the home depot it was what nine bucks for the wood yeah maybe um and built a frame behind it and so that's kind of what we're going to take with this idea here so with this panel this one is called fresh freeze so so perfect for this time of year so perfect for the fall time absolutely stunning panel this one is by hoffman as well they're great with their digital prints yeah the color um but what we're going to look at on this one is taking your fabric and cutting it into pieces like this on the screen where it kind of cascades out yeah building those little wood frames behind them that take all of nothing we have a video on it on even how to do it we did yeah we did with the night life panel yeah um and that can discascade out and the sizing is all depending on the size of the panel but you can make it look like something like this over your furniture or over your bed or the holidays or whatever you want to put in you can and you don't have to do five you can do three and you can take away um and you don't have to necessarily do what do you call it the the wood stuff if you wanted to get one of those paint one of those things called canvas canvas yeah paint canvas oh yeah they're already done for you put them on sale at the michaels or joanne's yeah they already have the stuff on there and then you literally can just take the fabric and then tap it over right take it over to the side yeah let's see we have any questions no they're just don't watch it so good okay cool all right so let's move to this one right here that was probably one of my favorite and you can do that and the panel theory the picture theory you can do with any type of panel like this yeah any scenic panel flower panel big you know those color the wild ones that hoffman we have them on our website as well and they have some really pretty animal ducks flying you could do so many different things with that yeah um this one i love halloween it's one of my favorite holidays besides christmas sorry no comparison there and we've shown this one before but another cool thing that you can do with this you could chop it up and make it that uh scene with the canvas if you wanted to um you could turn this into an attic window quilt which will show that at the very end of the broadcast with another panel but you could also take some night light thread which is glow in the dark thread we sell it exclusively here at linda's electric quilter sold through us and you could come in and accent these different pieces of this panel quick easy project here oh yeah that you could give to somebody in your quilt guild or in your family uh as a gift and use these glow-in-the-dark threads so when they turn off the lights it gets them in a little bit of an extra feature exactly or hang it there on the porch trick-or-treaters in the window yeah yeah if you're not doing that just hang it in the window turn off all your lights and they'll see all that that'll get really cool yeah yeah so that night night light extra glow again this is um this is probably the best glow-in-the-dark thread i have ever seen definitely it lasts for perfect all right where are we going to ah i know where we're going next we are going to oh and that one was called um haunted halloween sorry haunted halloween haunted halloween and right like he said all these are currently on our website along with the other 40-something panels um of course if you're watching this in the year we might as well remember stock is subject to change this one is called tricks and treats this is absolutely adorable i love the ghost on this one he's super cute and the bats yeah you can throw the nightlight on here too though oh yeah you put the nightlight around this one super cute um this could also be a um a holiday play mat throw some cloud loft in that and you could stitch you know heavily around the ghost here to make the ghost kind of pop with kind of some foach or punto you could do the same thing around the letter so the boob pops up off of the screen i love the fabric if any of these could actually be play mats oh no question no questions seasonal players seasonal playmats super cute all right tricks and treats that one's up all right here we go one of my favorites what are we showing this one next what's on your next on the slideshow though uh oh that is next you're right wow so proud of you all right jump to the next one okay we're gonna go to um sorry i was off kilter on that one uh next one here is going to be the celebrate the seasons we talked about this on our good morning leq episode and we have every month so there's 12 different ones he's just giving you an idea on a couple of them tonight they're all on our there's one for each month and then there's a final one that rotates so in total there are 13. oh that's right there excellent yeah okay um so these patterns are by coach house designs yes so i'm not mistaken coach house designs and the way she sells them is there's four to a set basically so with this one that you're seeing on the screen this is halloween and christmas for october and december but it's also going to come with the september and november ones as well which is really cool but if you look on the screen if you look really close like the borders of these um are like the pum the halloween one is made with pumpkins which is really cute and the christmas one has presents which is super adorable so she has some really good patterns to go along with some really really good hoffman panels with the hoffman celebrate seasons yeah so the panel and then you get backing binding uh for it or if you do those patterns through coach house designs um you're using this within your piecing exactly so you have everything right here that you need and then maybe a few extra yardage if you want some borders or stuff yeah so you can basically you can see that there's a panel here and then all that it's all one piece one piece so you have your panel and you're backing in your binding you can do a simple uh wall hanging like we talked about before with all of the 13 or you can do what corey just showed you with the coach house designs and make into a bigger quilt yeah same fabric i love how it's all in one piece though that's the easiest thing right there all in one piece well you don't have to go find the yardage exactly it's all there exactly already there um so these are dream big holidays these are poinsettias come in three different color variations this is the white one um a beautiful piece what's great about these is they have that you can kind of follow the if you were quilting this follow the actual plumes of the poinsettia here they've got great great vein texture in these leaves one thing to note about quilting on digital printed fabric sometimes you might want to use a ballpoint needle and that helps with the running in the fabric sometimes it does each thing's a little different yeah but if you're having issues with running in the fabric try a ballpoint needle and that could help you but these are absolutely really really cool so i wanted to take a different spin on this like we did the bolts at the very first part of the presentation where we put this on a 45 and split the other ones around it yep so this is the idea of how it would look if you did the red oh my gosh that is so pretty so beautiful yeah i can't even say what i wanted to say it's just two panels two panels one first one the center is on a 45 the other one's cut into four pieces just like we did with the bowl so if you didn't if you're just catching on we showed you at the beginning how you could take a bolt and do that and make it look like that it's the same thing you can do with the poinsettias or the big trees and i love how these the leaves how they get really dark they're on the out it looks like this is just all continuous uh there's no like hard uh stopping there um in it which looks really really cool yeah super cool all right at the end we'll have to answer some questions okay all right so where are we going next well this was right here this was a fun panel that you could get to make pillows yes so this one is called winter greetings red trucks red trucks are still very much so on trend um for the holidays and these are about 19 inches yeah on the inside so you're looking at like a 20 by 20 inch pillow that you could get or you could stuff it but you had a great idea about what to do with these i did you did talk to us about it i don't remember what my idea was yes that's right so you basically you know how most of our couches have the little 20 inch pillows already on them so if you have one that doesn't have like little frills or something it's just kind of a solid texture at the end you can actually make this as your top use a whatever color you want as a back like he showed you on these pillows here and you could do that with every different season see like make a little the full thing you could do that with every season and then just automatically just put it on like a pillowcase yeah no question switching on and out yeah so you would put this as a pillowcase and then you could change to the another season and that's the way you could make a couple of them and just do some decor in your living room or in your front room or wherever you wanted to put them right um really quick and easy by using the pillows you already have right so some of the stuff you've already got yes that was that was a great idea so let's do this one all right so this one we're coming up on this is winter greetings snowman and what's really cool about this one is there's all these tiny little ones you've got a good placemat size here if you wanted to use this um these would be great pot holders pot pot pot holders yeah like this take me so long to say that like pot holders then you could do um coasters or coasters like fun little coasters out of here so just kind of like a whole little panel just to kind of do a little decoration for your holiday there's so many different things you could cut out this and um put this actually whether you put it inside of like a placement on top or bottom or you could actually cut it out and then frame it into something be really cool putting maybe one of those floating frames it's just two pieces of glass stacked on top you could lay that in there let me finish it off another thing that just hit me about doing these if you want to make quick coasters cut these out and you can cut all of them out put them on your machine with backing and batting okay and you really don't have to do a whole lot of stitching you just stitch the heck out of this around and around and around and around you only have to bind it yeah you can stitch this over and over and over and over and over again around the outside and that'll lock it down yeah cut it you're good to go you've got easy coasters to give away at the holiday park well you literally could just take this whole panel you wouldn't have to cut anything out ahead of time no take the whole panel put it down on top of the fabric have your backing and then do the same thing just do all your stitches around the stitching some cute design in between if you wanted for these larger ones yeah put a larger one and then when you're done just trim them off you're done look how smart you are yeah i didn't even think about that was keep it all on one piece keep it all in one piece and then cut it when you're done quick and simple sold yep all right where are we going next we are doing the nature oh you love this one i do you love this one so this i thought would be really really pretty well you can use this in um whether you hang it in the house for christmas or take it to a christmas event do it as one of the attic window things that you're about to show so hanging and that you're you know you can always be looking out especially during the holidays yeah this also could be done into the little things you did oh the little uh the like we did with the fall freeze one yeah you could do like just three you could do like three of them three of them kind of make them smaller exactly so it's just a beautiful beautiful the colors are really pretty or you just keep it simple and it's already got all this design in there like it's already kind of has a little border and you can just throw either another border on there or just put it back in and you're good to go let me call it done that's beautiful yeah i really like this one all right the nativity all right last but not least last but not least sun up sun down love this panel it's gorgeous they're all pretty i mean they're all pretty i i can't i always say love this panel love this panel um so one thing to take this that we want to end end off the show with is a very popular rendition of using a panel is doing an attic window quilt yes and this is one that has some blocks around it um this is kind of the rendition of it and using that panel in the blocks behind it makes it look like you're looking out of your studio window or you're looking out of the window of the home or you're looking out of some type of window and you're south they're seeing this beautiful scenery so you could do it with this one you could do with the nativity at the fall freeze the any of the call of the wild ones i have the animals there's so many things you can do with an attic window i love that and if i like how you put some extra stuff around it too you know just kind of on the frame little black yeah it was a cool pattern that i found online um i can find the exact name of it because i probably actually should have that um you're fine annie's craft store uh winter window quilt pattern okay andy's craft store went to one yeah so super pretty so you could do that with that one yeah so you could do that with anything right yeah you could take that with any type of panel as long as it's kind of falling into the dimensions of the pattern and more and you can you kind of we want it to be more of an outside look too yeah yeah yeah you don't want to go into the inside of the studio so when you're using some of the scenic panels or like you said something like this or a snow panel or a holiday panel or just something like that that just gives you quick ideas so kind of what we've showed you tonight is that you can take a panel and do just about anything and we didn't even touch the surface of what there's so many different ones what else you can do with panels and how many options there are and you think about the the cost benefit there yes you know a panel for instance 15 bucks depending on your certain eleven bucks seven it's like twelve this one's twelve that little coaster one was what seven eight yeah there's so many different things that you can do with them and then turn them into a ton of different gifts presents holiday decor home decor exactly um for you know a pretty good you know pretty good on your your little pocketbook there you go the pocketbook yeah you can find some really good panels and definitely throw a few extra pieces in there yeah use some of your fabric stash and have a beautiful piece at the end no matter what you do with it whether it's the pillows that he was showing you i like my pillows i know you do i like my pillows the pillows whether it's cutting up the panel making a beautiful quilt and um so we had a question earlier about just an idea of how you would quilt out the bolt pattern like if they did the bolt pattern what are some ideas yeah let me grab one of the bolts so we can have a better idea of it let's grab the amethyst one real quick and move this one out just give some quick ideas to you on how you would coat this one because angle let's kind of go back to that picture too after we show some ideas of the oh gotcha okay um so on this one with that bolt what i what you can do here is kind of work depending on how you wanna do it i would probably work from the center out which isn't something that i do very often on panels but this one i might want to work center out there's a lot of good definition i know it's probably hard to see on the screen but there's a lot of good definition in these lightning bolts that you could easily uh i say easily you could follow yeah that you could it gives you an easy path to follow when you're doing your stitching here and you could stitch along these um pieces of this lightning bolt well that's what i was thinking too because like you said you can't really see it but you can literally take that you could do the glow in the dark too you could do the glow in the dark if you wanted to just do like a silver or bone or something and you could just you know you don't have to be perfect because these bolts are not perfect you don't you don't have to follow right on you could yeah you could just shake it all around it they're like me yeah and you can just kind of go up like that if you want to do freehand or if you're doing a computerized you can literally just do it like a one design and then repeat that design right like we did with the with the dance yeah like yeah did the dream big dance with yours yeah you could kind of create one little portion here and take that all the way around here if you want to do radiating lines out of this you could you could also take pattern sets that are meant for hole cloths yeah and as long as they have some type of straight line in them slap it right on top of that and ignore the line work on the bolt and you'd be surprised at what design you end up getting out of that because it looks like it's like blasting that whole cloth yeah and really making it explode which is really cool yeah so let's go back and show that quilt that we what brought the question on oh okay hold on let me get back to it there we go all right um so this is the rendition of taking the royal bolt and the amethyst bolt um putting that royal one on a 45 and then doing the amethyst on the corners but that's just two panels one amethyst one royal fun to do that um and that's one of my favorite things to do with panels is to make them a little larger like that yeah no easy it's like you said all you got to do is cut it put it together put it together and go if i can piece it you can piece it trust me so we just want to thank everybody for watching tonight if you have any questions about different panels you can put them in the feed um and we'll get and answer those um like we were saying we have we've become we like we call ourselves wide back world because we have tons of wide backs but now we're also becoming panel central panel central and wide back worlds what we're shooting for these days exactly um so there's tons of panels to choose from so definitely go on there grab one the celebrate the seasons is super fun but you know if you're looking for seasonal stuff but other than that you can just imagine now that we've given you a few ideas you can take almost any of these and when you go on you're going to see longhorn things you're going to see the little monk sock monkeys there's so many people you can make a little a world map with animals on where each one of them normally stay within the world and on their continents there's so many things yeah of what you can do exactly awesome all righty uh do you have anything i felt like i was cutting you off no no no no no all the panels are on longarmsupplies.net um other than that no we're good to go awesome we'll be here in the morning all righty well thank you all so much um for being us with us tonight here on after hours and taking a look at what you can do with different panels we will see you tomorrow morning on good morning leq see ya bye
