hey guys welcome back to the Sutton garage and we're actually in my Ford F250 right now and I'm going to tell you why I actually went with the 250 versus the 150 this time around so let's get at it so the first one and the obvious one is the power and torque this thing is claimed at 475 horsepower with about a thousand fifty foot pounds of torque and anyone who's watched a single YouTube video at all knows that's really underrated a lot of these are dynoing at 500 wheel and over 1100 foot-pounds so there's a lot of power in horsepower on tap to do whatever you want to do whether it be towing or hauling big loads now there are several different reasons that this is a good thing and one of them actually has neither to do with towing or large loads one there is the towing aspect I do have a boat and it's a lot easier to tow the boat behind this truck than it is my F-150 however the F-150 was no slouch either it did a great job Towing and I honestly tow about three or four times a year so it's really not that big a deal to me but it is nice when I have it and we're planning a mountain trip with the boat and being up and down those Hills with the bigger brakes and bigger power is going to be a big deal and number two you can put a lot more stuff in the bed and you've got a bigger motor to pull it around but the biggest thing for me actually is I travel a lot so I spend a lot of time on the highway and having that extra power and torque actually allows me to get in and out of situations a lot faster than I did with my F-150 say I want to pass a semi or I have to get out of the way of one I have a lot of power on tap and this truck from a roll can scream and if anyone knows me they also know I love big Power [Music] all right [Applause] [Music] and then the added benefit of a diesel is that it actually gets that power on tap more efficiently than my gas motor did in the F-150 what I mean by that is at this size if I don't use cruise control I can get up to 22 miles per gallon on the highway with cruise control it's more about 19. and even around town I'm getting 16 to 17 miles per gallon where my F-150 at this same size was getting 14. so while diesel is more expensive it evens out a little bit when it comes to actual miles per gallon when I'm actually putting gas in the truck and then the second thing is actually the size of the truck it's obviously larger than an F-150 is going to be so at this stock ride height on an FX4 the hood and roof are about the exact same height as my F-150 was six inches lifted you also have the increased wheelbase with the increased bed size and a little bit more interior room so when we go on long trips as a family my son has a lot more room in the back my wife has more room in the passenger seat because she can move the seat more we have a little bit more room in the bed which is not a huge deal but it works out and then the longer wheelbase makes it even more stable on the highway so when we're going down the road it's literally like a running couch another little added benefit or a little couple like features that I actually wanted to add to my F-150 but weren't available unless you got a super duty a great example of this is the uplifter switches that I have up here for accessories I had a lot of accessories tied into my F-150 and it would have been nice to have more of a factory option for the switches like you do with the super duty and then the last added benefit which is a little one but actually we use a lot is additional cup holders since you have a stock shifter up here we actually have four cup holders up front through a sliding panel that allows us to just keep more junk up front to be honest so what about the negatives one I am dealing with a diesel that means I have to deal with DEF fluid and unfortunately here with the 2022s they're really hard to delete then you add on top of that that the government is cracking down on shops to do it anyway so you do have to have that extra tank that you have to fill for the deaf fluid and then number two is the actual diesel fuel itself you can run into limited availability in areas especially urban areas and it is a little bit more expensive now as I mentioned before I am getting a little bit better gas mileage but I think that's a net zero across the board because with those echo boost Motors they don't necessarily need premium so just keep in mind you are paying a little bit more so that added cost benefit versus not really kind of fluctuates depending on where diesel cost is at the time and then what I said was a plus can also be a con it's the size of the truck in stock form like this its height is the same as my six inch lifted F-150 and then you're also dealing with increased length so while I'm going to actually lift and go to 37s I'd highly recommend if you're going to even keep its stock height upgrade the tires and make them a little bit bigger to make the truck look a little bit more proportional than it does right now because in stock form it's literally that guy at the gym that has huge arms and shoulders and chest but looks like you can't walk up a flight of stairs and then the next thing is you are dealing with a super duty truck so while I use to get annoyed with the F-150 sometimes and I was on rough roads because you're dealing with a light bed it tends to want to bounce around on rough roads and the more you go up in suspension whether it be the 250 350 or 450 you're going to run into that problem multiplied so you'll actually find that a lot of times it's a lot smoother riding truck on rough roads when you actually have something in the bed now I don't deal with a lot of that on highways but I was just in Tennessee and Mississippi where they don't take care of their roads as well and it tended to want to bounce around all over the place and stop and go traffic so if you are in a really rough road area just know that unless you have some weight back there it's going to bounce around a little bit and then it is as I mentioned before you're just dealing with increased size and increased height so even without modifying this truck I have to worry about the same parking decks I did in my modified F-150 once I lift this there are going to be some that are just not accessible so just keep in mind you are dealing with a lot larger size vehicle than you would be in an F-150 and then lastly and then this is kind of one of the more annoying ones for me is that the super duty lineup tends to get upgrades and material fit and finish and Tech a lot later than the F-150 part of the reason I waited and built a 22 was because I wanted the 12 inch screen if I didn't get the 12 inch screen in this truck the interior would look identical to my 2016 F-150 and if you look at any of the F-150s out currently they got major upgrades to the interior way before the Super Duty lineup did whether that is the full LCD screen for the actual gauge cluster the 12 inch screen the new seats the workspace that will actually slide out in the center console those are all things that the F250 didn't get at the time they are starting to bring them out now and some of those upgrades that super duty actually won't get at all so if you're looking to be on the bleeding edge of all the tech that can go into a truck the F-150 is going to get those not only sooner but also maybe at all and then lastly and it's a little thing I prefer to shift in the center console versus the column it's a little thing but it is what it is I have a feeling the Super Duties are going to keep shift on the column because the way they have to make the lower level lineups but I do prefer the look of having it in the center console it also makes it a little bit easier to use but that also means I would miss the four cup holders that we actually do get with the Super Duty so you might be asking it sounds like the pros don't outweigh the cons so why did you switch well there's a couple reasons for that one I do live in the suburbs of Atlanta I don't have to travel downtown very often and I don't have to worry about a lot of parking decks when I do travel I'm traveling on the highway within the southeast and I'm going to industrial areas that are basically wide open as well so when it comes to the actual size restrictions of the truck I don't run into them very often if I had to go downtown a lot I would be taking a different car and two I'm on the highway a lot so the increased stability of the size of the truck the increased gas mileage and the increased power to get in and around the traffic is a big deal for me that I use a lot so I might not use the bed payload capacity a lot I might not tow a lot but it is a huge added benefit to me to have that extra power and torque and height out on the highway just in stock form so when it comes down to it it really comes down to use case and even though I'm not towing a big trailer behind me 24 7 when I'm out traveling this truck is more comfortable and has more power than my F-150 did and that actually is a great thing for me and then I'm kind of a power junkie so I like big motors I like big turbos and makes me like this truck I'm just wired a little different so guys I want to hear what you think do the pros outweigh the cons for you or are you back down in an F-150 would you consider stepping up to a truck like this for your use case I want to hear what you have to say down in the comment section below if you like this video please give it a thumbs up consider subscribing
