okay good one with f123 now out I thought now is the perfect time to look at just where to start in game in this video I'm going to take a complete look at f123 and produce the ultimate f123 beginner's guide video I'll try to cover all aspects such as setup controllers and wheels to how to go about getting faster where to practice what assist to use and all the different game modes those sort of things so I want to start just by kind of giving a little overview of this year's Formula One game and some of the changes that have been made from last year if you did play last year's F1 game you won't notice a whole load of new things instead this year's game focuses more on kind of minor improvements and a few extra game modes one of the big statement changes to f123 is the re-inclusion of the breaking point game mode this is a mode which features a much more scripted approach to racing with cutscenes to drive a new narrative through f123 outside of Breaking Point the favorite game mode such as career my team championship will return which some of them allow players to create their own team and race through multiple seasons and there's also the new F1 world which again allows you to kind of compete online and do events those sort of things to to help build your car and build a fictional team which is kind of cool but one of the really big changes in f123 there are two new tracks we've got Las Vegas and we've got the sale in Qatar hopefully these are new additions to the 2023 Formula One calendar and both have been pretty well recreated in f123 we also see some favorite tracks returning despite not being on the official calendar but pull the card in France Shanghai and China important Mao in Portugal all of these don't appear on this year's actual calendar but do appear in-game which is a nice touch one of the other big changes are to the overall driving physics codemasters F1 games have always been a balance between arcade and simulation which allows the kind of cater for the widest range of players the f-123 that trend is still true but some of the changes focus on making the car slightly more realistic to try and a little bit easier as well especially in terms of traction last year's games or many players drop in to apply the throttle as traction levels at low speed were incredibly low this led to race starts and slope Corners in particular being incredibly tricky to navigate this year I'm happy to report that traction is easier to find and it allows race starts to be easier to manage and allows for more consistent levels of traction throughout a race while the driving physics have been updated to make the driver more realistic there have also been some minor changes to how car setups work rather than completely overhauling the car setup system these are just small small adjustments these include updating the values which you can choose from when tuning your car in f123 you now have finer controls over the adjustments that you can make to your suspension your ride height and your tires while these changes don't drastically affect much they do allow for finer levels of control over certain areas so we should see a little bit more variety in car setups but now that overview is out of the way let's see exactly where to start if you're jumping into f123 for the very first time I'd highly recommend getting acclimatized to the main features of this year's game these include choosing some settings to make the game more enjoyable and adjusting your difficulty which I'll discuss a little bit later in this video next I'd highly recommend heading out on track in a practice or time trial session to start to get used to the gameplay ultimately you'll be spending the majority of your time on track in f123 and this is where most of the fun can be had so becoming a climatized with how the cars handle should be where the majority of your focus is during your first few play sessions and first few hours of the game I'd recommend using the assist available to really ease you into the gameplay Loop these help you familiarize yourself with the tracks as well as how the cars behave under brake hair and acceleration and during gear changes if you want to experience the thrill of racing wheel to wheel pretty early on you could go on free mode to run a single race session this lets you race against the AI with zero consequence and I'd recommend taking part in a few grand prix before jumping into say breaking point or starting a career mode but before you do start racing on track I highly recommend setting up your racing wheel or your controller a well-configured wheel or controller will make controlling the cars much easier and make your f-123 experience much more comfortable I've created some videos already for the best controller with the best wheel settings and how to actually set them up and I'll link them in the description below if you're unsure of which setting affects your wheel or controller in a certain way I'd recommend simply copying our settings or recommendations and then as you progress you can then tweak them to your fit your own personal preference ultimately when deciding between a controller and a racing wheel there are quite a few considerations obviously racing wheel is much more expensive and it takes up space unless you need somewhere to mount it and potentially somewhere to store it but if you do opt for a racing wheel you'll have higher levels of immersion and you also get more control because there is much sort of larger range of movement compared to a simple Trigger or an analog stick but despite this you can still be incredibly quick with a controller in f123 meaning you should really choose whichever you prefer and whichever will give you more enjoyment now one of the biggest decisions you'll have to make when you first start f123 is which AI difficulty you should run choosing your AI difficulty will ultimately change the overall difficulty of the game and can make races much more enjoyable if you set the difficulty too high you'll struggle to keep Pace with the cars around you and find yourself further back on the grid say too low and the game will become too easy and the enjoyment of winning every single Race by a whole lap and lapping the field may start to wear off over time ideally you'll want to set the AI difficulty to just a little bit higher than your ultimate Pace this will allow the cars around you to really challenge you for position and it will also push yourself to keep up and battle with the cars on the track which will be improving your own pace and make you a faster driver over time question is how do you find the perfect difficulty right away now I always recommend jumping into a Grand Prix session with a One-Shot qualifying mode I'd recommend to stick the AI on 75 difficulty and participate in just this one shot qualifying it's important when you do this to set the car's performance to equal performance while choosing your car as this will make driving a Williams the exact same speed as driving a Mercedes or a Red Bull so I'll give you a truer outcome after you've put in your qualifying map simply see where you are on the grid a lot of times you'll see will be the ai's ultimate one lap pace so this makes for a great comparison if you find yourselves towards the front of the pack or really far ahead be sure to consider upgrading the difficulty attach but if you qualify towards the rear you can also lower it a little bit I'd recommend adjusting in the difficulty in increments of about 10 until you find a rough setting that works for you then you can further fine tune it from there now as a general rule of thumb to prevent lots of back and forth and changing around most tracks there is about a 10 second difference between the slowest AI difficulty and the fastest and every 10 to 15 increment on the difficulty will make the AI around a second faster or second slower and this general rule can be applied to changing your difficulty if for example you're one second off the pace then you can lower the difficulty by around 10 to 15 points of course this is a loose genuine rule of thumb and there isn't the exact one second to 10 points of difficulty correlation but it's there or thereabouts once you've found a difficulty where you can lap consistently with the AI you can then move on to a testing phase and I'd recommend running a few five lap races at some different tracks to see how you stack up against the AI on your chosen difficulty while testing you can adjust the AI difficulty between races until you really find a setting you're comfortable with remember always try to set the AI difficulty just a little bit higher than your current skill level as this will allow you to push yourself and improve your overall speed now key part of feeling familiar and comfortable with f123 is to choose the correct driving assists these will make the cars easier to drive and it will also help you learn the tracks faster driver assists such as braking and steering assist should really be turned off as these interfere too much with the overall gameplay assists such as ABS traction control and automatic gears are all great to get you started in f123 without making the card too difficult to control straight away another fantastic assist which I'll always recommend especially if it's the first time at a new track is the dynamic racing line this will show you where to position your car and when to break and accelerate around each track this is fantastic for quickly learning the braking zones and racing on each track over time I'd recommend lowering or disabling assists such as abs and traction control as doing so will give you greater levels of control over your car and make your better driver overall and it can also allow you to find extra speed and lap time but there should be absolutely no rush to disable assist in f123 too quickly as if you do you can cause some extra frustration and make the game harder than it needs to be as you become more comfortable in f123 then you should start gradually lowering the number of assists you're using now as I said earlier one of the biggest things you'll be doing left 123 is actually racing on track so practicing is really important and it should be one of the biggest things you're doing during the first few hours with f123 I would highly recommend using the time trial mode to practice different car and track combinations time trial mode provides the perfect racing conditions with low fuel optimal tire temperatures and track temperatures giving you the best scenario to really push the car and learn its characteristics Grand Prix mode and short races are also very valuable as there are no consequences to restarting or crashing or finishing at the back so you can really use this mode as a test bed for a racing wheel to wheel with other cars one great tip is to follow the card during a race or practice session to learn where they break and accelerate this allows you to learn where they're faster than you and is one of the quickest ways to actually improve your lap time as you can see a direct comparison between yourself and the car directly ahead of you now once you've kind of progressed out of Grand Prix mode f123 has a huge range of game modes for you to participate in you've got quick races you've got full championships it and even in-depth RPG like modes such as my team or the new F1 world this variety of game modes allows players to pick and choose their own experience and how they spend their time in f123 I'd always recommend starting with time trial and Grand Prix as I've mentioned earlier as this really helps you to learn the game and help you feel comfortable then once you're kind of get into grips with f123 I'd recommend moving into say breaking point or the mighty mode as this allows you to invest your time in a more in-depth game mode breaking point game mode is a continuation of the story that I think we last saw in f121 and it's very much a story driven game mode with cutscenes and actors kind of a little bit like drive to survive F1 world is a new game mode for this year's game and it's an evolution of F1 life from f122 it gives you your own car to customize and upgrade with upgrades being earned over time for completing different objectives and finishing events you can compete in different events in multiplayer racing and in scenarios in this mode and it provides a kind of mini RPG style experience the real me is in the mighty mode which allows you to really create your own team and car and compete against other drivers and teams in f123 this is kind of like the really in-depth RPG style career mode where you can run multiple Seasons hire fire drivers and progress your car and challenge for the championship that sort of thing now choosing your favorite team in driver in f123 is a decision that affects a lot and also not very much at the same time each real driver and team competing in the real 2023 F1 season is represented in this year's game as is the performance of their car when competing in races and single player modes you can choose any driver to race us and each car has a different performance level meaning if you choose to raise in a Hass your car will be much slower than if you chose a Red Bull or Ferrari it also changes the look of the car you'll be racing giving the gamer a slightly different aesthetic elements such as the in-game steering wheel and camera angles will also be different from car to car ultimately choosing your team and Driver can come down to picking your favorite driver or dictating your own difficulty and choosing the style of race you'll have racing is Max verstappen in a Red Bull can have you competing at the front of the grid while choosing to race in a Williams will lower your car's performance and have you racing against the cars towards the back of the pack while your first few hours in f123 should be focused more on learning how the car behaves as you progress you may want to start dabbling with car setups you can change various aspects of your car setup and these changes can have a big impact on your car's performance and overall handling there are various aspects of your car setup that can be changed with each one changing the cost handling in a different way and each track will also require a different car setup slow tracks such as Monaco favor High downfall setups and faster tracks such as monzo require low drag setups to find a little bit of explanation about car setups I'm going to run through each area in kind of loose detail just to give you a bit of an overview now your aerodynamics is the first setup option you have and this affects the downforce of your car higher downforce levels will slow you down along straights it'll give you more Aero grip through the corners making you slow on the straights and faster through the corners differential changes how each rear wheel works together while accelerating and decelerating these settings can change how your car behaves on the entry to a corner along with how much traction you have on the exit of a corner geometry setup in f123 changes the position of your tires in relation to the track adjusting the tire and Camber will bring more or less of your tires into contact with the track and can affect how much mechanical grip you have in mid Corner as well as how much drag there is down long straights the suspension setup changes how soft or stiff your car suspension is stiffer settings can increase your pace through faster Corners by preventing body roll and increase responsiveness while a softer suspension setup will allow you to ride curbs easier without as much of an issue and generally provide a more stable car your brake setup directly relates to how much braking performance you have with your brake bias changing how much braking force is sent to the front or rear brakes which can have a big impact on how your car behaves under braking finally your tire pressure setup will alter how quickly your tires heat up and the overall temperature while on track and the pressure should be adjusted to avoid overheating to prevent tires from wearing too quickly during a race now once you spend a bit of time with f123 there are further settings in game mechanics you can look into which I haven't mentioned yet elements such as the race strategy and when to pitch during race along with Advanced driving techniques can improve your pace immersion and most importantly your enjoyment F1 offers a lot of different ways to enjoy the game from casual races to ultra competitive multiplayer racing and RPG game modes like my team career whichever game mode you choose the important thing to remember is to try and maximize your enjoyment out of the game you can do this by setting the correct difficulty and assists to not make the game too hard too early then over time you can lower the level of assist and increase the AI difficulty to present yourself more of a challenge hopefully you found this guide useful and it's worth noting that we do have a lot more in-depth guides on specific areas such as wheel settings and how to set up your car for example you'll find a lot of those on our Channel or over on
