Ezekiel in 9 Minutes

Ezequiel was 25 years old when he and his wife were taken from their home and land into exile and 597 with 10,000 other Jewish people he prophesied in exile from the summer of 593 to April of 571 he heal might be the craziest book in the whole Old Testament only Psalms Isaiah and Jeremiah are longer but no book in the whole Bible contains more left turns and crazy imagery I love it I call Ezekiel the performance-art prophet because God had him live his prophesies many others are visions and he was also given a virtual tour of the temple but okay we're not there yet it said that each of the three great prophets emphasized one of the persons in the Trinity so Isaiah emphasized the son Jeremiah the father and Ezekiel the spirit you see that in chapter 2 2 where the spirit enters him and sets him on his feet you see it also in 3 12 and 14 where both times the spirit just lifts him up the Book of Ezekiel is about the glory of God its departure in exile and its return in the new temple that's the key word return here's a quick overview chapters 1 2 3 is the call of the Prophet chapters 4 to 24 is the departure of the glory chapters 25 through 39 as judgment on the nation's and 40 through 48 is the return of the glory ok let's get started chapters 1 through 3 contains the appearance of the glory and the calling of Ezekiel Ezekiel sees visions he sees creatures with faces flying wheels within wheels creatures flying below a crystal expanse and their wings they sound like rushing water and over all of it he saw a throne with a flaming sapphire silhouette surrounded by rainbows Ezekiel would see this same vision of God two more times he saw God and he fell down on his face God sent him to speak and prophesy and perform for the people God called him a watchman and fed him a sweet scroll chapters 4 through 24 are the departure of the glory all of it is reasons and exhortations and pictures of the departing glory of God from Israel in chapter 4 there's a symbol of the see God commands Ezekiel to lay on his side for 390 days at a time cooking his food over poop he's the performance-art prophet I told you guys Kanye West would love this guy you mentioned Kanye West in the last two videos in Chapter five he's asked to cut his beard out and scatter it as a picture to the Jewish people in Chapter six he prophesized against the mountains stomping and clapping his hands there's a lot of other performance art prophecies that God commands later in the book to pack his bags and dig a hole to leave the city not mourning over the death of his own wife taking sticks and writing messages on them prophesying to the mountains of Edom in Israel these all symbolized the destruction of Jerusalem the punishment of the people all super specifically and lined up with each commanded action okay if you think that was complicated we're just getting started chapters 8 through 11 are visions of the temple so God appears to him as a half metal half fire man there's people just worshipping idols there's 25 men worshiping the Sun there's a secret underground Society of evil agnostics forsaking God for idols there's a lot of wild imagery there's a guy clothed in linen marking the foreheads of the righteous so that they will be spared when the Babylonians invade the land in chapter 10 the glory of the Lord leaves the temple it's like the reverse end of Exodus in chapter 12 through 24 there are refutations of popular sayings among the people it's like anti proverbs they're Maxim's that the people believed that weren't from God and it's mixed in with the condemnation of false prophets elders and the mockery of Israel all of these chapters here are really unique and interesting there's a riddle there's a lament there's preaching against a forest there's a picture of God taking a sword out of a sheath and a parable where there's two characters they're sisters and they each are called spiritual prostitutes Ahola who represents Samaria and a hullabaloo represents Jerusalem both unfaithful to God many times in this book your your head will explode I'm not kidding up until the making of this video and the writing and researching of it I didn't know most of the stuff that was in here don't tell anyone chapters 25 through 39 or judgment on the nation's just like Isaiah and Jeremiah before him Ezekiel was talking about the mistreatment of God's chosen people also like Isaiah the book takes a hard turn into redemption in Ezekiel it comes in the form of the return of God to a glorious new temple just hold on it's coming at the end of the video there's prophecies here about the return of the house of David the return of the people the return of the temple and these are symbolic of the three main covenants in the whole Old Testament the house is the lineage which is David the Davidic covenant the people that's part of the land covenant with Abraham and the temple that's the law and symbolic of the love covenant in Jeremiah and coming through Jesus it's the most complicated please don't turn off this video please don't stop watching what is all of this a picture of it's a picture of rebellion the people of Israel rebelled against the covenant God sent them into exile to repent and then to see his return there's the key word chapter 24 Ammon Moab Syria Philistia chapters 26 through 28 tyre and 29 through 32 Egypt each get a seven full Oracle's of prophecy and judgment concluding with the Prince of Tyre and the Pharaoh of Egypt these prophecies of judgment are given to me Ezekiel over the course of a year and he dates each of the Oracle's exactly when God gives it to him then finally in chapters 38 and 39 we get judgments against Gog and Magog but before that remember Ezekiel is the watchman meaning he has to say exactly what God says or at least what he's told again in chapter 33 right before that a fugitive came from Jerusalem and told him the city had been destroyed so this part of the book lines up chronologically with lamentations stuck right here is one of the best redemptive moments in the whole Bible from prophesy about the mountains in chapter 35 and 36 down to the valley in Chapter 37 God leads Ezekiel to a pile of bones presumably the people killed when Jerusalem was sacked and destroyed by the Babylonians but something wonderful happens the bones start moving together and sinews and muscles and flesh start to come on the bones its decomposition in Reverse God breathing and bringing life back to the people of Israel like their Adam and Eve in the garden God then says something unbelievable I'll place my spirit within you and you will live and I'll place you in your own land then you will know that i am the lord then ezekiel expounds on the covenant jeremiah told us about God says I will make a covenant of peace with them it will be an everlasting covenant with Jesus Israel will be restored to its land as a nation revived by God made right with him an end well by his Spirit then the last part and the best part although it's no less dense and confusing in the previous sections chapters 40 through 48 the return of the glory of the Lord their sin had caused the exile and the destruction and the departure but God's goodness and love will cause the return there's the key word God shows Ezekiel a vision of a lot of stuff first he shows him a vision of a new temple it's chambers its gates the inside the outside all around and through it second the same vision of God is in his calling a flaming sapphire silhouette on a throne and God's glory filled the temple just like an exodus third the law of this new temple for priests the feasts a living River from the temple to the Dead Sea which will be filled with fish it's a really beautiful picture of a healing River we actually just had a son Julian we made his middle name River after this chapter Ezekiel 47 and then fourth the division of the land now all of this section sounds a bit like Moses and Leviticus but it's so different these sacrifices in the future temple look back to the death of the Messiah geez Christ who's commemorated in them finally the glory returns in chapter 43 and it ends with the name of the city the Lord is there that's how the Book of Ezekiel ends it's a place to get lost and there's dozens of prophecies dozens of pictures dozens of judgment there's redemption restoration and the returning of the glory of the Lord I know that it's confusing but it's worth it just because the Bible is difficult to understand in certain parts don't avoid reading it or studying it and this is all a part of the narrative of Scripture God created man fell Jesus promised Jesus fulfilled Jesus followed Jesus returning return that's the Ezekiel word and the Bible is God's Word
